Hmm, I'm afraid you'll probably have to be the victims of my next project. It's nothing you did. But you're number one, an it wouldn't be TE if I didn't destroy the #1 alliance, now would it?

-Bama

his AA may say TPF, but I can assure his statements don't reflect TPF.

Bama...know your role

Hmm, bama, interesting. TPF actually rather likes RE though.

A hero for the cause.

All these people trying to get cozy with the #1 really makes me question the whole tournament concept. Wikipedia tells me the goal of a tournament is to win, and unless something is funky with this game winning is being number one. Why anyone would strive to end up anywhere below that is beyond me.

Let me help by replying to your post. :lol1:

I didn't read the topic, but I will say, TPF and RE allying is really really good. It impresses me a lot that TPF is playing to win this round instead of just sitting around being content with #3. Because honestly, the best thing to do in a tournament is to go for 3rd place! Because winning, I mean its not for everyone.

I hate derailing threads, but considering how far off course it's already wandered, meh. So I'll help hijack this one just a bit further and hope that by supporting RE with this post, it fits in with the thread itself.

See, here's the deal.

The way scores are figured out, RE has pretty much already won this session just by having the most nations. Last round it was MHA. It didn't much matter that they got ganged on by SWAT, RE and TF, did it? Those three TRIED, real hard, to take it away from MHA. MHA mostly lost that scuffle, but it didn't matter. The way scores are configured they were a shoe-in for highest alliance last round no matter what. That's the way things started and that's the way they finished.

Here are the top alliances and scores this round, right now:

1) Roman Empire 235 nations 180 active 353,125 tot ns, 1,503ns avg 41.23 score

2) Mostly Harmful Alliance 148 nations 101 active 198,510 tot ns, 1,341ns avg 25.17 score

3) The Phoenix Federation 127 nations 98 active 210,915 tot ns, 1,661 avg ns, 22.95 score

4) The Fellowship 102 to nations, 82 active 160,501 tot ns, 1,574 avg 18.13 score

5) Lafayette Escadrille 80 nations 58 active 125,383 tot ns, 1,567 avge ns 14.23 score

Compare us to MHA. It doesn't matter that we at TPF have a higher total ns than they do. It doesn't matter that our nations are over 300ns average higher than they do, or a higher active percentage. We beat them in every category - except ONE. They have 21 more nations, and that's all she wrote, that's the only thing that's important. Just because of that trump card alone, they have a higher score than we do, and that's all there is to it. They apparently won the recruiting battle hmm? WTG MHA!

If we're going to play to win as an alliance, according to what it takes to have the highest score - this is NOT a war game. It's a recruiting game. Unles RE chokes off a bunch of their nations, well, it doesn't MATTER. TPF and TF could both turn on them and it won't make any difference - not that we WOULD. We like RE and TF, TF likes us and RE, and RE likes us and TF. We've fought it out plenty of rounds, got to know each other, and there we are now. So get over that, please? lol

You wanna play your macho lil "I play to win" theme go right ahead and get every one of your members recruiting, ok? You've got a ways to go to overtake RE. Cause that's the only way you have to win the round as far as the alliance race goes. No wars, just recruiting.

I'm not being rude, just stating reality. Just sayin'.

Good luck with that :)

tl;dr

Stuff.

Bama: We'd be disappointed if you didn't. Plots and coalitions (HINT) make life exciting. Also, I approve of your new alliance and hope you have a good time with your golden fried chicken.

Also, Jon's post pretty much hit the nail on the head, both on our lulziness with each other and the alliance score thing, which is why I urge everyone to post here: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?showtopic=61759

Show your support for the idea if you hate the current system.

I can't give up. I need some kind of motivation to play TE, and outside of being annoying I got nothing. :lol1:

Even if you don't think you can catch them it doesn't mean you should go ally them. Having all the top alliances allied makes this so much more fun. ^_^

I guess however if you can't beat them join them.

To the all that, I say war has never caused members to leave right? If a bunch of alliances jumped on them there is really no chance that they would lose a lot of members right? Because as far as I can tell RE is super organized and all there members are super committed right? Just war them already ^_^

People getting attacked by a much larger force always stick it out in mass.

We just did a census of actual members, so the numbers are known to us. Our allies are also being made aware of them. Yes, we would lose a lot of members in a hypothetical beat down, but my personal opinion is that there is no force on Steve unified enough to have the numerical advantage on us to make that possible. As for our membership being committed and our organization, we've survived longer then most alliances in TE, and haven't done poorly at all. This is our 5th round in TE, 4 of those rounds spent as a sanctioned alliance. Our government has taken huge strides forward from our formative days, to be one of the best in TE (but then, I'm biased). We've fought plenty of major wars, more then most alliances have actually. Should I list them? First Judgment, Second Judgment, Curbstomp War, Comeback War, Fark War, Harmful War. Since Round Three we've fought at least two major wars each round, plus plenty of minor conflicts. What have you managed to accomplish beyond coming on these forums and making a lot of noise? You haven't earned the right to talk about us that way. Get over the fact that the MI days are done and gone. Most of the "Old Guard" of TE have already gone, it's time for them to leave completely. You had your turn with Steve; now it's ours.

Want a gold star or something? I'm glad your organized enough to do a quick check of who is a member and who isn't.

Apparently not. The alliances that could try seem to find any attempt pointless so they would rather do nothing.

But your done with wars that matter now right? Got to keep those big alliances allied to avoid a real war at all cost. I don't blame you, I'm just saying.

Even if I have done nothing (which is true ^_^ ), but why does that take away my right to say whatever I feel like saying? Why do you even concern yourself with what an unaccomplished person like me has to say? Or is that your trying to deflect for some reason. Do you think something I said maybe even slightly true so that you have to make it into an attack upon me instead of a defense of what I was challenging?

P.S. What does MI have to do with me? I don't think I said anything about it, or was that just a random tangent to get away from what I was saying?

Edit: Gah, I suck at this typing thing.

Well, I can't argue with Bama's post's logi- err I mean take on reali- umm ...stuff.

I can't give up. I need some kind of motivation to play TE, and outside of being annoying I got nothing. :lol1:

Before even reading this section of your post I knowwwww how much you would love to see TF, TPF and RE (and MHA for that matter, plus LE and NOIR and ...any alliance you aren't in (I actually don't know what alliance you're in tbh lol)) all fight it out amongst ourselves. After all, you're playing to win! I suspect you might have just a tiny small wee bit of bias there, jussssstt maybeee? That strawman (sorry, Bama) of yours works about as well as Dorothy's buddy the Scarecrow in a tornado.

Thank you for understanding the other points I made though, Zikawe.

Not that they haven't been well chronicled elsewhere, as Harold's thread links shows.

...but that's part of the REAL reason why we ended up allies.

See, it's really none of this "oh well we can't win, might as well join 'em" balderdash you've got on there. Yesss, you might be a just tad biased. See, in Harold's post with that link, he's pretty much arguing against his own alliance. He's arguing that the system used right now isn't working - even though his alliance is WINNING using it. THAT is an example of the reasons why we like him, and his alliance. In posting that link in this discussion, he's showing integrity, and honor. At TPF those are two of the virtues we respect the most.

That's the way most alliances end up friends, isn't it? You think they're a good bunch of guys? Occam's Razor and all that? Harold hangs out in our IRC channel all the time, good man that one. We've got people in our alliance who've known NeoGondor for a long time, and respect him a lot. I don't know him well at all, myself. I DO know that the people in my alliance, the ones I respect the most, respect him. He has excellent character references lol

THAT is why we're allied with those guys.

Nothing else.

How about instead of playing for the top alliance, or even the top nation - we play for the t-shirts! Which alliance gets the most t-shirts wins, hmm? Then every alliance has a chance to win, not just the one with the most nations. BTW as a show of TPF's integrity, I'll point out that we currently have 5 of the top 12 nations - including mine. At least I admit my bias. Can you admit yours, mi amigo?

Firstly, are you surprised that he's in CDT? :awesome:

Onto serious rebuttal - your argument is flawed (for the lack of a better word), fundamentally. You assume that friendship should be basis upon an alliance should be formed, I disagree.

This is TE, this isn't a nice tree house for you and your friends to cuddle together and have tea parties. A lot of people will tell you that TE is about blowing stuff up, about even sized Great Wars. Everyone have a goal, mine is destroy as much as possible, our buddies at TFD's was achieve #1. Guess what? We formed an alliance to hit LE last round to achieve our goals, not because we were friends, but because the alliance benefited us.

We were part of the first group that decided the MHA lead Judgement group wasn't healthy, and declared war on them. Does that mean we hated MHA? Nope. We all respected Thaisport, and we like him as a guy, but that doesn't mean we should be allies and chit chat. We decided dramaz and warfare was the order of the day and we went with it. CDT are like best buddies with MASH, but that didn't stop us attacking them because they had the #1 avg NS ranking.

My point? Friendships are killing TE. Unavoidably, the top alliances form friendships, but recently, they are all succumbed to the "Burning Glory Syndrom", and decided to be allies too. Being friends doesn't stop you from being rivals either, and forming alliances on just the basis of friendships is what I consider to be against the spirit of the game. There were leaders who recognized this, but they had little impact on this new growing trend of diplomacy and lack of scheming. Ammon for one, did what ever the hell he wanted to do and wouldn't give a second thought about what others thought of him, which I respected. He went out and stirred up trouble by being the bad boy, and that was all well and good.

The problem arises however, when alliances at the top of the chain, such as RE, TPF, MHA (to just name the obvious examples) stop regarding eachothers as rivals. This produced the incredible boredom that was last round, and drove many players out of TE. There is a reason why there wasn't a great war (and if you called the MHA curb stomp a great war, you should join OON), and the reason is essentially your view point.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with your point of view, hence my use of the word "flawed" is in itself, flawed. It is my belief that TE is supposed to be stirred up, alliances broken, backs are stabbed regularly and Great Wars occur regularly. Others have different views, such as yours, and there is no right or wrong. This is however our view point and from which all our actions originate, do not blame us if we disagree with yours.

Oh I did.

I agree with that part :)

I'm just thinking that maybeeee the two members of CDT posting in here recently might be just a lil tiny bit biased in their thinking, that's all. I can merely see why y'all might want those of us who are friends and allies - and happen to be near the top of the pile - to fight each other. I admit my bias in this matter. Can you admit yours?
