Humans vs. Zombies

It's that time again, for the most awesome game of tag ever.

Humans vs. Zombies is, basically, a week long excuse for college students to run around campus with Nerf guns. It is awesome.

Last session we had over 700 people playing.

How it works, is on Monday morning, right after midnight, everyone is a Human, except for three or four "Original Zombies." The basic premise, is that if a Zombie tags a Human, that Human becomes a Zombie, but Humans can "stun" Zombies for a short period by shooting them with a Nerf gun or hitting them with a thrown balled-up sock. Zombies have to get kills in order to not starve to death.

There are missions every night in order to keep people from locking themselves in their rooms all week, and for Humans to win, they have to make through the final Extraction mission on Friday. Zombies win by slaughtering every last Human, or by preventing any Humans from being extracted. So far, the Zombies have never won a game, because a handful of people (usually in the single digits) somehow manage to make it out.

It's truly a wonderful game, the strategy, the teamwork, the epic battles when 100 Humans stand off against a horde of 200 Zombies.

I'll be going as a Human this time (I typically go Zombie in the Fall quarter), and that means I'll be playing the survival game, as fun as being the hunter can be. Just finished dusting off my Nerf guns, and getting everything lined up for Monday. I can't wait. I'll look like a goddamn fool all week, along with 600 fellow students, and I couldn't care less. This game is awesome, and if it's available on your campus, you should sign yourself up.

All Humans Vs. Zombies has been is a really bad distraction for classes at my university because the game moderators are terrible at their jobs. Several times I've heard people running by screaming "THERE HE IS SHOOT HIM" during my classes, and our school forum pretty much gets complaints everyday about how much of a distraction it's been. Either they're players of the game, or they absolutely despise the game.

My univ is doing it too. I regret spending like over $30 just on nerf guns lol

$30? Pffft.

I have 3 guns right now, and I want to get the Stampede:

Right now I have:

Dual-wielding primaries:

Magstrike: http://www.hasbro.com/shop/details.cfm?guid=FDFBAF69-19B9-F369-D994-781CA820C40C&product_id=25711&src=endeca

Rapid Fire 20: http://www.hasbro.com/nerf/en_US/shop/details.cfm?guid=FE9E99B7-19B9-F369-D985-85E74F8B8829&product_id=25718&src=endeca

Sidearm:

Recon: http://www.hasbro.com/nerf/en_US/shop/details.cfm?guid=FEA5FADE-19B9-F369-D97E-14E637CD74E7&product_id=25719&src=endeca

(I've taken all the optional attachments off)

All are modded to a light degree, mostly external mods. I have custom holsters, straps, etc. to keep all this junk easy to carry and quick to deploy.

And I've probably spent just as much money on darts as I have on guns, you see, you don't play this game unless you plan on going through a great many darts that you'll never see again.

As far as the Stampede goes, it's just a lightweight and 1000x more awesome Vulcan, which is the belt-fed monster they released a while back. The only problem, is that it's electric, and there is strong hints from the game staff that the Zombies could potentially get hold of an EMP (Plot device, not a real one, obviously) and that would cause all electric guns to be banned. Feel sorry for people keeping Barricades as their side arms, I'm happy with my air-powered guns.

This is why our school banned it indoors. We can only play outside.

Which, you know, is for the best, for sure.

They play it around URI too. It hasn't been much of a distraction; I played it last year with a sword alone (screw those panzy guns). I made it to the final day. :awesome: But then I got ass-rushed. :<

The closest thing my school had was liquidation, where you had to hit your target with a squirt gun, and then when you eliminated them, they gave you their target. I knew a group of girls who out of the four of them living in a unit of four dorm rooms, they had three of themselves as targets. As soon as midnight hit, that unit got pretty crazy.

SCY, isn't that game otherwise known as "Assassination?" Or did they change the name so as to not draw attention by the school authorities?

RIT is really cool in that regard, they're not uptight about stuff like this. They banned it indoors because they don't want darts hitting the sprinkler system and damaging millions of dollars of equipment, and they banned modding the guns because, lets face it, at a tech school, if you allow modding some engineering student is going to create an armor-piercing Nerf gun. But they otherwise allow it in it's intended form, and it's an official club that they even take measures to protect from outside interference.

Other schools have either outright banned it, or been supremely hostile towards it, as part of that bull!@#$ "zero tolerance" nonsense that I thought should have died out by now.

In 2 hours I roll out to receive the late signups as they trek back across campus from Academic to Residential side.

Signup runs until 11:50, and the game is on at midnight. That gives them 10 minutes of safety to make it back, and I doubt they'll get all the way before the game comes online.

I may or may not keep a log of the game's progress.

I've played it once where it was assassination, and another time it was liquidation.

We did that Assassination thingie when I was in uni. The guy hunting me caught me in the parking lot of the campus police station just after I checked my 12 gauge shotgun out of the campus police's weapons locker.

Props to the chap for shooting me with nerf gun when I had my 12 gauge over my shoulder on the walk back to my car for some pheasant hunting.

heh..
