Thomas Hankie was looking over some of the satellite photos that showed Disparu building their own border defenses. "They think we are unstable and aggressive, BS. I might as well as drop them a note." he thought to himself.

Classified message from Thomas Hankie to Disparu:

If you are thinking we are going to invade you, that is incorrect. I have no intention of being aggressive. I go by the phrase of, "Today's friends, tomorrow's enemies." I understand you dislike the border defenses being built, but I will not let GLP get pushed around by other countries.

Ever.

OoC: How would your government know that Disparu thinks the GLP is unstable and defencive? The post that contained that thought was classified, and my government never said anything about the GLP being unstable and aggressive publicly (if I correctly remember). :v:

IC: The lower echelons of the Disparuean Ministry of Foreign Affairs would mark the message as 'acknowledged' before archiving it among other minor enquiries and notes.

OOC: Thomas knew GLP's and GLS's unstable past and multiple Disparu's involvements, not to mention what alerted him was you building up military forces near the border.

GLP National News:

GLP AIR FORCE ON STRIKE!

All of GLP's air force pilots have went on a strike over a proposal of slashing their wages by 10% and other benefits that is still being debated in the Legislative. It appears that they have used the overall unpopular GLP-Blue Heaven War to foot pressure on the Legislative to reject the bill and on President Thomas to remind him that slashing wages is a bad idea.

Surprise blizzard

In Blue Heavens, 20,000 troops backed up with hundreds of vehicles were successful until they hit a severe blizzard. The military's weather forecast predicted cold, snowy, and windy weather, but never a blizzard. The entire invasion force has been bogged down, the blitz force is buried underneath snow and disabled and most of the rest of the invasion force is stuck in Windwake City. It is not known if the invasion force can survive the blizzard given their lack of preparation of such severe weather and being attacked by enemies who might had knew the incoming blizzard.

GLP National News:

Anti-war riots and protests:

Dozens of riots and protests had sparked, most of them demanding President Thomas to stop the GLP-Blue Heaven War. President Thomas had stated that he will not tolerate insults, especially multiple ones. However, many critics stated that the reason for the war is too weak and that the invasion force was mauled by Blue Heaven, indicating that the GLP military is too weak to take on another country.

The Legislative is now planning on amending the GLP Constitution, adding in the phrase, "The President of GLP can not declare war UNLESS if approved by the Legislative. Vetoed DoWs can be approved by a nation-wide voting."

And apparently Toronto's riot control police force decided to do something interesting...

GLP National News:

Yet another blizzard...

GLP's second blitz launched against Blue Heaven that was much larger than the first one was demolished by an even larger and more powerful blizzard. Not a single vehicle is operable and it is estimated that less than 2.5% of the soldiers had survived the blizzard.

KIA: about 68,500
MIA: about 10,000

Anti-war protests and riots had also intensified. President Thomas's popularity has dropped down to the single digits ever since he had DoWed on Blue Heaven over petty insults. So far President Thomas has not made any public comments.

GLPAF's strike is over!:

The Legislative have rejected the proposal to slash the pilots' wages and benefits. In return, all of the striking pilots have returned to their jobs, defending GLP and attacking Blue Heaven.

Classified, updated border defenses plan:

Note: All parts of the fortifications have 20mm-40mm anti-missile/rocket/bomb/shell defensive turrets (OOC: If I painted them in, then the entire fortified area would be blanketed under one color, that is how many defensive turrets there are :OOC). All bunkers have controlled C-4 explosives underneath that will be ignited if the bunkers are overwhelmed and have no chances of being recaptured. They are also connected by tunnels. They also have lots of automated cannons packed inside that are programmed to shoot at anyone that doesn't have GLP's military "Friend or Foe" chip activated.

The bunkers' structure have concrete reinforced with boron-steel, tungsten carbine, depleted uranium, bullet-proof gel, shock absorbing gel, and Kelvar (spall liner). They are at about 3 meters thick.

No-man's land (red): Filled with Concertina razor wires (prevents enemy infantry from moving through an area), low lying razor wires (15 cm tall, hard to spot which easily trips enemy soldiers who aren't looking down), landmines, remote controlled explosives, czech hedgehogs (made of three steel beams welded together to stop vehicles and are covered with razor wires), dragon's teeth (50cm tall square concrete pillars covered with razor wires), hollowed out caltrops with holes in it (to deflate self-healing tires),and other fun stuff. The giant rhombuses have the highest concentration of the obstacles on their borders though their central sections are free of obstacles. The pathways between the rhombuses have large amount of razor wires, occasional czech hedgehogs, and are only wide enough to fit a single typical MBT.

Frontal assault bunkers (gray triangles): Consist of inexperienced "cannon fodder" soldiers. All of the weapons used are mounted with transparent aluminum shields attached to protect the soldiers. It is elevated about 1 meter off the ground. It would be very hard to throw grenades into the bunkers. It have stationary 20mm cannons, 120mm cannons, and anti-tank missile launchers.

Frontal bunkers (gray): Consist of inexperienced "cannon fodder" soldiers. All of the weapons used are mounted with transparent aluminum shields attached to protect the soldiers. It is elevated about 4 meters off the ground and lots of reinforced concrete (with Kelvar between the concrete and soldiers to prevent spall) instead of sandbags. It would be very hard to throw grenades into the bunkers. It have stationary 20mm cannons, 120mm cannons, and anti-tank missile launchers.

Railguns (blue squares): Each square has two 20mm railguns that have up to a 200km range and the railguns have six barreled cylinder system, each time a barrel is used, it is rotated out of the firing position and is replaced by a cooled down barrel. The railguns' armoring can withstand multiple direct 250mm AP shells. The purpose of the railguns are to wreak chaos on the congested pathways by destroying dozens of vehicles per shot.

Rear bunkers (light gray): Same design as the Frontal bunkers but is filled in with more experienced/valuable soldiers and has better protection. It is 8 meters off the ground. It also has some automated 40mm cannons and other automated weapons. It have stationary 20mm cannons, 120mm cannons, and anti-tank missile launchers. They also have rectangular towers that are 15 meters tall.

Cannon field (yellow): 20mm, 40mm, and 80mmm cannons, all are automated.

Sandbagged tanks (black): Precise close artillery support and minor AA defense (they all have a basic AA missile launcher to keep enemy helicopters from blasting them). The tanks used will be primarily heavier armed and armored yet slow if they are available. Lighter tanks can also be used but should only be used as a last resort.

Artillery (dark red): 120mm-400mm artillery guns.

AA field (green): Consists of static rapid firing AA missile launchers, mobile AA vehicles (slower firing), and radar stations.

Multiple missile launcher field (purple): Consists of launchers that fire from 1 cm radius to 1 meter radius missiles. Not only they provide missile support, they also serve as anti-missile support.

This setup is for a flat field. Artillery guns and rear bunkers will be placed on high grounds if possible. In mountainous area, artillery is on top of the mountain, No-Man's Land is less extensive but will still thickly cover all mountain passes, and everything is built into the mountains.

Construction progress:20%

Land border locations: USA, Republic of York, Disparu, and Republic of Tahoe.

A U.S.A. Military commander in Michigan looked across at the new setup by the GLP. He chuckled faintly, "I love stationary defenses. They let you know exactly where to fire the bunker busters."

U.S. defenses were kind of different. When a GLP commander looked back across the border there was a vast no-mans land of.. emptiness. It looked relatively inert. But do not let looks fool you. There was a purpose for all that open ground. Further back.. camo camo everywhere.. and more camo after that. It was so bad you can't tell where the camo ended and the real trees began.. oh wait.. that's the purpose of camo.

One GLP commander to make a mental note to inform the logistics department to prepare a very large stockpile of incendiary bullets, shells, rockets, and missiles in case if they ever invade USA. Besides, she liked to watch things burn.

OOC: How can you be building all these defenses while still maintaining a war effort, especially one where you are throwing around dozens of thousands of troops?
OOC: I built part of it BEFORE the war started and since the Nationalist Party is no longer the dominate political party in GLP, the border defense constructions are going to be greatly slowed, though they will be sped up in certain area IF a neighboring country becomes aggressive and/or fires insults to GLP.

It will take about 6 RL months for the border defenses to be fully completed if there are no incentives to speed up the construction.

OOC: Also one thing to keep in mind: his incomplete border fortifications can stop a full invading army. Just a precaution just in case anyone wants to invade GLP. :v:
OOC: The border defense at its incomplete form can't stop a full invading army (especially when it has superior numbers and technology, *cough* JEDCJT *cough*), but it can at least bring serious pain and delays thanks to the No-Man's Land. When fully completed, then it can easily halt a full invading army unless if the invader spammed all of their IG CMs on one small area or fired nukes. CM spamming or first-nuke strike is frowned upon by GLP's military and will be met with a counter CM-spamming.

That includes firing a special type of large missile to spray turdffiti onto famous landmarks and major government building. The missiles will be loaded with a mixture of thick sewage, diapers soiled with wastes, roaches, rats, ultra smelly chemicals (such as sulfur and methane), and fast acting super glue.

IC:

Somewhere in Toronto, at midnight:

99 red glow-in-the dark balloons loaded with fireworks were released in a birthday party that was held on top of an apartment building. However, for some reason, the fireworks didn't go off and the wind blew the balloons away. Normally people wouldn't care, but when the red balloons started floating over the financial district and toward a military base that was bordering Toronto, things went wrong. GLP was at war with Blue Heaven and Alasken Union, was at DEFCON 1, was threatened by other countries and when paranoid soldiers noticed the masses of red balloons, they panicked and hit the alarms.

A squadron of F-11B Falcon jet fighters took off from the Toronto Military Base to engage the masses of 99 glow-in-the-dark red balloons. Meanwhile, 20mm defensive turrets were firing at the balloons. The fact that they exploded into bright flares and made loud bangs further encouraged the military base to attack the supposedly bomb balloons that were targeting them. Soldiers ran around in the base, seeking shelter to avoid being caught in an explosion.

Shortly after all of the balloons were shot out of the sky, one of the kids at the birthday party who noticed the chaos and shooting posted what they did on Face Book and posted a video tape of them releasing the balloons on Youtube. One of the commanders just happen to be surfing through Youtube and found the video.

GLP National News: Red balloon scare

Yesterday at midnight in Toronto, a birthday party that was held on top of the Terrica apartments released 99 red glow-in-the-dark balloons that had timer set fireworks attached to them. The fireworks did not go off and the wind blew the balloons past the financial district and toward the Toronto Military Base. Military personal were alerted by the masses of glowing red balloons and deployed a squadron of jet fighters and activated defensive turrets to engage the balloons. Nearby residents reported they heard the alarms in the base were hear blaring and shortly afterward, the roar of jet fighters taking off and turrets firing. The balloons' fireworks finally went off and that encouraged the military base and the jet fighters to keep on firing until the last balloon was destroyed.

The Department of Defense nor any of the commanders at the Toronto Military Base had commented yet.

GLP National News:

GLP's Legislative had finally passed an amendment to the GLP Constitution that adds the phrase, "The President of GLP may not declare war or get involved with any conflicts with armed forces without the Legislative's approval. The Legislative's ruling can be overturned by a nation-wide general population's voting." The voting was 132 to 1 in the Representative and 6 to 0 in the Senate.

The Legislative had also voted on the topic of should GLP declare war on Blue Heavens. 120 said nay to 13 that said yes in the Representative and 5 said nay to 1 that said yes in the Senate.

The GLP Supreme Court had also ruled that President Thomas's declaration of war against BH was unconstitutional. However, President Thomas told the Supreme Court and the Legislative, "You have made your decision, now enforce it."

As a response, the Legislative had started an impeachment trial to determine if President Thomas is fit to be in the office or should be replaced.

This is the first time in GLP's history had a president ignored the Legislative's and Supreme Court's ruling, though by federal laws, it is not illegal.

The U.S. hereby unilaterally opens the Embassy to the GLP in Washington D.C. We think it's high time we started winding this nonsense down a bit and we think we can find common ground if we simply tried. All it needs is your ambassadors.

President Thomas sent two words to USA: "$%&@ you."

Private message from the GLP vice president Mays Billy:

"Don't think of us as if we were bunch of idiots. Thomas has gone insane ever since he took office and it is getting worse. We don't have a department that deals with foreign affairs ever since Thomas threw it out. Wait until he gets replaced by a more sane president before attempting diplomacy. Besides, Thoma's popularity rating has dropped down to single digits and the Nationalist Party's is now an ankle biter in the Legislative."

GLP National News:

The Legislative had impeached President Thomas Hankie, stating that he was unfit to lead GLP. The senate vote was 6-0 and the Representative vote was 130-3. Mays Billy is now the president of GLP.

A videotape shows four Spec Op guards dragging Thomas, who was throwing a tantrum, and threw him into an armored car. Behind the armored car was a truck that has being loaded with everything that Thomas owed that he brought to the President House.

And in other news, Mays Billy is now rebuilding the Foreign Affairs department that was scuttled by President Thomas and is now open to embassy requests. GLP has been moved from DEFCON 1 to DEFCON 5 and border defenses constructions are being cut back or slowed.

"How do we think we are going to erase the bad publicity that was smeared on us thanks to Thomas?" President Mays asked his adviser.

"Don't be a douche bag to other countries and be open to diplomacy. Though don't get too friendly with USA, lots of people around here still hate USA. At least remind USA that we have no intentions of invading or being aggressive." his adviser replied. "Wait, what do you plan on doing?" the adviser asked.

"The goals of the political party that I am in are self-explanatory. Improve GLP's economy, dur." President Mays replied.
------------------
Public:

President Mays Billy had proposed several bills to the Legislative:

-Shut down free healthcare, pensions, unemployment benefits, and other social programs.

-Reduce taxes and remove all sales taxes.

-Loosen the pollution regulations. Toxic wastes can not be dumped without special landfills though.

-Reduce all business and financial regulations.

-Reduce the government size by nearly 30% which would reduce government's spending.

-Halt the increasing money flow to the military and divert it toward tax cuts. The military will receive a slight budget cut intsead.

-Slow down the border fortifications’ constructions and leave out some of the defenses.

-Increase spending in building up infrastructure and renewable energy power plants.

-Sell off some of the unnecessary national parks.

-Encourage business development by offering tax cuts to businesses that are younger than 5 years old.
-------------
Many of these bills will face stiff oppositions from the democrats and communists who believe that most of the bills should do the exact opposite.

"We congratulate Mr. Mays for being appointed as the Great Lakes Provinces' President. We are also glad that the GLP's government has reduced the importance of the military and begun to focus on other areas of its internal affairs. Due to these changes, we will be lifting our trade and travel embargoes on the Great Lakes Provinces."

ACTIONS

True to their word, the Government would indeed lift those embargoes. Civilian flights and cruises to and from the GLP would resume within the next few days, though the St. Lawrence River was still heavily protected, just in case.

Seeing as how you are looking for cash and are focusing on the economy, the AU is wondering if you are interested in selling any of your western land. That way you can avoid rebuilding costs.
