Operation ROLLING THUNDER

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

We have received information from our sources that the Nos Tre Republik had been planning to declare war on the Federated States in support of the Northern Republic and the Slavic Federation, and we cannot in good common sense let this threat materialize. With that, we hereby undertake what we term a preventative measure.

ACTIONS

With this, Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates ordered Operation ROLLING THUNDER to be commenced. Approximately 90,000 troops were withdrawn from the GLS (Gates had privately informed the Disparuean government about this) and deployed through New England to the FRA region, where the troops were immediately sent to the NTR border. The troops were also accompanied by 2,000 Abrams and Panther tanks, as well as an equal number of IFVs, self-propelled howitzers, and military vehicles—all from the GLS. In addition, ten squadrons of fighters and interceptors (240 aircrafts) and five squadrons of bombers (120 aircrafts) were diverted from the Florida border to the NTR. The troops also brought artillery guns, missile launchers, and other equipment with them.

Once everything was in place, ROLLING THUNDER began. All aircrafts lifted up into the air, where they soon filled the skies above southern NTR. The bombers, making a beeline for the major cities of Columbia, Charleston, and many others, proceeded to drop their payload upon any NTR troop formations, military bases and installations, and anything of strategic value (civilian areas such as residential areas were to be avoided) as to clear the way for the troops. At roughly the same time, about fifty missiles were launched into the air, where they cruised toward Canfrutarn, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Sumter, and other cities; they were not only to disrupt and/or destroy NTR troop formation, but also military bases and installations, dams, bridges, roads, etc. Civilian areas, however, were left alone as per the norm. The NTR capital, however, was particularly targeted; its government buildings were the targets of the FSA’s wrath.

Finally, as the aircrafts and missiles were flying through the air above NTR, the 90,000-strong troops stormed across the border into the NTR, accompanied by 2,000 tanks, self-propelled howitzers, and armored vehicles. They were to advance into the NTR as quickly as possible and take over as many land as they could in a day; in other words, they were to undertake a modern ‘blitzkrieg’. The NTR troops would face not only vastly overwhelming numbers, but they would face a huge ‘hail’ of bullets from vastly-superior New Englander weapons and heavy shells from the New Englander tanks.

The New Englander troops and tanks began to rapidly advance toward the cities of Canfrutarn, Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Sumter, and Charleston, as well as many others.

OoC: Oh snap :P

OoC: I asked him to do this. :awesome:

IC:

NTR was under shock, but calm. Although most of the buildings, including the "Twisting Twins", were burning and destroyed, there was still something....

CLASSIFIED:

Evacuation Code 112548 was sent to all wealthy and intelligent citizens.

O-1s were sent to cause a distraction while government officials snukc into underground bunkers.

Casualty count: 10,000 dead.

Banshees were also flown to cause a distraction.

Army commanders and officials laughed at the prospects of the NTR attempting to resist the [aerial] onslaught with their vastly inferior aircrafts, namely the O-1s and Banshees. As hard the NTR might try, any and all of their aircrafts would be easily shot right out of the sky by determined and experienced New Englander pilots. But even so, a couple or so of New Englander aircrafts, were shot down and their pilots forced to eject out to safety. These were the lucky shots. Now it was the New Englanders’ turn: swarming the skies above the NTR, the bombers continued to drop their payloads upon their targets with increasing ferocity and devastation; all of the major cities would be visited by dozens of highly-explosive and napalm bombs. Once the fifty missiles did their jobs, devastating their targets beyond respite, another fifty missiles were launched once again to the same targets. The NTR was to be utterly crushed, and with overwhelming power.

Meanwhile, on the ground, the troops and tanks continued to push northwards at high speed. In several hours, the troops had seized the city of Anderson, near the border, and were rapidly converging upon Columbia and Charleston. Any and all resistance, if any emerged, would be swiftly dealt with; self-propelled howitzers and artillery guns were employed to devastating effect. The highly-superior tanks helped out in the effort. Any village or town that put up resistance was to be “razed off the face of the planet”; however, civilian residential areas and property were to be respected and if damaged/destroyed, to be repaired at the Army’s expense. But no matter what, no army in history had ever invaded a nation without sustaining casualties, unless that nation surrendered without question, and the New Englanders were no exceptions. About thirty soldiers were estimated to be killed or wounded during the operation.

Behind the front lines, in the cities, towns, and villages that they took over, Army troops quickly established law and order; martial law was declared and a curfew imposed. However, the civilians were treated with respect and courtesy by the New Englander military authorities.

The USC officials express mild surprise at the resemblence of the rolling hills of the Carolinas to the Middle East.

OOC: lol, it's not my fault most troops photos in Google are almost always in the Middle East one way or another... :P

A very public message from King Stephen I to President Johnson:
President Johnson,

It has recently come to my attention that you utterly destroyed the Nos Tre Republik. For that, I condemn you for such a terrible action. Why couldn't you let Texas do it? We wanted to crush them so badly that we were in the middle of preparing a force to invade! You couldn't at least contact us about this for a possible joint effort? Please reply as soon as possible.

Regards,
King Stephen I
King and Autocrat of all of the Commonwealth of Texas
FRA regional government was bewildered by this decision, but overall supportive.

Soldiers on the South Carolina border watched the New Englander troops advance with awe and confusion, they were never informed an invasion was going to happen.
"This is 1st batt to division HQ, why is the entire god-damned New Englander army storming the NTR? What are our orders."
He did not get a reply for thirty minutes. Finally what crackled through was a mix of surprise and amusement,
"Sit back and watch. Move in on our word"

A very public message from King Stephen I to President Johnson:
PRIVATE

President Lyndon Johnson laughed aloud when he received and read the message from Texas. Getting out a blank paper, Johnson scribbled a reply:
Greetings,

The reason we did it was because we were in a position to do so, and we had all the resources needed to make such operation a success. That, and I was not aware that you were planning such a course of action against the NTR that we had so recently undertook and with success. But thank you for your concerns.

With regards,
Lyndon Baines Johnson, President of the FSA
The message was duly sent to Texas.

50,000 FRA troops moved across the border, in the wake of the New Englander forces. Their intent was to reoccupy South Carolina, which had been wrested from the FRA's hands with threats of nuclear war and genocide by the Greenland Republic, and to re-establish the state. NTR patriots who resisted would be jailed for later deportation to the NR (should they accept the citizens), and not be abused beyond that unless they fired upon FRA or New Englander troops.

A public announcement was made by FSA and FRA President S. Engelmann,
We've been waiting a long time for the day we could reoccupy the land that is rightfully ours, and we're looking optimistically towards the future. As President of the FRA, and President of the FSA, I declare South Carolina to be a state in this Union, and a member of the regional FRA government. Thank you.
As soon as the FRA President Stephen Engelmann made his public announcement reestablishing the FRA state of South Carolina, President Lyndon Johnson made his own:
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

As President of New England and thus of the FSA, I can do nothing but affirm the official status of South Carolina as a legitimate state in the FRA and thus the FSA. The people and government of South Carolina therefore are under the full control and sovereignty of the FRA, and FSA, government and republic. They shall enjoy full rights and liberties as citizens of the FRA and thus the FSA.

On that note, the FSA shall have the full rights as a sovereign nation to protect, defend, and safeguard the status of South Carolina as a state in the larger Federal union. With that said, New Englander troops will remain in place to ensure a smooth turnover of power and to defend the newest state if needed be. They shall leave if asked, and remain if asked.
CLASSIFIED

In the Oval Office, President Johnson asked President Engelmann for permission for New Englander troops to seal off the border between South Carolina and North Carolina. Johnson also asked Engelmann for permission to keep martial law and the curfew in place. He would respect Engelmann’s decision regarding South Carolina. It was, after all, Engelmann’s state.

ALERT:

There has been an annoucement that a WMD is buried 20 yards beneath Charleston. The WMD is active and may explode and/or leak at any time. Warning to any FSA and New England troops.

Transmission out.
New Englander military commanders, upon learning about this, immediately notified their troops in South Carolina; they also notified FRA commanders. The Military High Command in Washington, FD was also alerted to this fact, and President Johnson duly notified Engelmann about this.

To that effect, special task forces (specialists and engineers in addition to troops) of the New Englander army in South Carolina were immediately sent to Charleston to try to find the WMD and defuse it. Next, the Army prepared to put an emergency plan to evacuate the remainder of the population in Charleston.

Upon hearing the announcement, the FRA diverted any and all troops from Charleston and to nearby towns, to standby. One city won't make much of a difference either way in the grand scope of things.

A specialist team was sent in with equipment for dealing with both biological threats and explosive devices, to begin the hunt and disarming, or detonation of, the WMD and containment of the area if necessary. Bunny suits for all, and for all, a good bunny suit. Troop transports delivered biohazard suits to both FRA and New Englander men on the front, who donned their gas masks and protective gear. This had the dual effect of making the citizenry more agitated and of protecting our troops from chemical or germ warfare.

In the towns surrounding Charleston, civilians were evacuated and put in specialized detainment camps outside of the city walls, in which buildings for medical care and quarantine are being constructed in the event that the weapon goes off. The civilians didn't take too well to being herded like cattle, even if it was to protect them and not to cause them injury, and some responded passive aggressively or violently. Measures were taken to detain resisters and judge whether or not to deport them.

The specialist team would work in tandem with New Englander troops to the shared goal of disarming or destroying the device.

President Engelmann responds to President Johnson regarding martial law,
Martial Law will still be in effect, as well as curfews. Any non-military or otherwise authorized individual who is out past the designated curfew of sundown will be arrested and detained by FRA or New Englander troops, and held in captivity until they are otherwise fined, imprisoned, or released by the FRA government. Of course, if anyone fires on any FSA forces, their life is forfeit.

Thanks,

Engelmann
We're at war with them, you do what you need to. We're stationing all but 5,000 soldiers to the NR border (45,000). I propose a joint operation of NE and FRA troops in invading North Carolina while they are distracted fighting NE troops in Virginia. Thoughts?
OOC: :awesome: What kind of WMD? I wasn't aware you were big enough for nuclear weaponry, so I assume you have nerve gas or chlorine or weaponized germs, or something.

OoC: It is a VX bomb, which was buried during and breach and clear rescue of Yiroshi.

VX causes choking, if you didn't know.

Oh, and Charleston, minus the damages, is worth about 100 billion, and the "Twisting Towers' stand there, a 1 billion dollar building. It also has an amazing amount of trenches and tunnels, plus a beautiful hidden palace. Yeah, it is worth more than one city.

IC:

A former NTR former military general sent a message to FSA:
The WMD is located in one of the many NTR trenches. If you happen to find a command bunker, look for a wall that seems to be collapsed. Around 20 yards inward from that and 100 yards deeper there is the WMD, and if you are lucky you will find a Desert Eagle, a Chair and a couple of bodies, all covered in dirt.
Protest and riots have sparked in former NTR, as many want their governemnt back. But the riots are about as effective as throwing a leaf at a tank.

TO: The Honorable Lyndon B. Johnson, President of the Federated States of America
From: Her Grace, The Countess de Saint-Germain

Your Excellency,

I have recently come aware that American troops are now slicing through the defenses of the Nos Tres Republik like a hot knife through butter at the same time, I realize that your republic is beset by enemies on all sides and to see a grand country and nation such as yourself, dedicated to the proposition of democracy, freedom, and social mobility, possibly wiped from the face of the Earth would be a terrible crime to humanity. Mind you, humanity is already guilty of hundreds of thousands of crimes and I'm sure your nation deep down is guilty of as well. However, the Nos Tres Republic has something to offer both of us and I would like to set up a meeting with you and your staff for my own operations in America. My merchandise as you will find is quite appealing to a nation like yourself and perhaps, the Federated States can still be saved from the cruelties of war.

I also realize that I have not addressed myself in this letter, however, I was a friend of the late President Kennedy and my credentials will be presented honorably upon meeting you Mr. President. I am sure that you can feel the winds of change in the world and the innocent of the world, the innocent who are harmed everyday by the war hawks must be protected and saved. While those hawks, their talons clipped for all eternity. Allow me to meet with you and together we can remake the world according to a universal and sacred dream. A dream that I have held my entire life.

Sincerely,

The Countess de Saint-Germain

OOC: I do now. Thanks, wikipedia!

And obv we want to control the city, otherwise we'd just avoid it completely instead of wasting time disarming a bomb.

IC:

In response to the rioting and looting, measures are being taken by the FRA soldiers in the area to quell the population. Besides the evacuation and containment of civilians in detainment centers until the threat of biological and chemical attack subsides, the military has issued an edict regarding curfew, weaponry, and response.

Civilian weapons above handguns and hunting rifles will be confiscated

Curfew is at sundown, anyone outside past that will suffer detainment

Franc-tireurs will be dealt with harshly, firing at FRA and New Englander authorities, as well as Federal officials and soldiers, would be unwise

Local military authorities can intitiate a lockdown per their judgment

Former South Carolina residents who fled when the FRA lost South Carolina will be returned and protected

After civil law has been restored, you may file a complaint with the state and regional government regarding lost property or return of weaponry. An investigation will be conducted and you will be properly compensated for property damages.
Riot police are being trucked in from the FRA to assist soldiers in doing this. They were trained to kill, not police. Nevertheless, most troops did their best to follow the rules set out by the FRA-- aiming to disable, disarm, or capture, but ready and willing to kill anyone who posed a threat to the military forces of the Federated States of America.

The specialist team has entered the trench system and will begin the search for the WMD. They are protected from biological and chemical agents, but the fears of a nuclear weapon are still present, and everyone is on edge. Nobody wants this detail, but it's necessary. They were rather dismayed with the horribly vague directions, all considering, but they conducted a thorough search.

Federal officials contacted the military official back,
Please be specific in the whereabouts of the WMD, and what kind of weapon is it? Considering the possible magnitude of the threat, we need precise answers so we may neutralize the threat to our soldiers and to the civilian populace.

Also, ID on mentioned bodies?
