Dual Monarchy Names New Head of Defense

Today, King Raczyński stated in a speech that he and his compadre had agreed to appoint a new minister of defense after the death of the previous one last week.

Former Minister of Defense Rraskinopf had been the head of Defense in the Kingdom of Czechia prior to the formation of the Commonwealth, wherein he took office as head for both Kingdoms, as part of the new Imperial Cabinet headed up by both Kings.

The new Minister, Michael Saviri, a well known technology designer of the Polish Armed Forces, served under King Raczyński. He has served Poland since the Monarchy formed, as well as the Commonwealth.

ooc: I will be rping the role of Michael Saviri

IC:

Michael Saviri was shocked when he heard the news of his appointment to the position of Minister of Defense in the Commonwealth of Poland and Czechoslovakia. He had worked long in hard in the defense industry. First, he had worked as a supervisor for Army Research and Development during the days of the Greater Nordic Reich. It was a position he had enjoyed, until his world came crashing in around him when the European superpower collapsed. He had lost everything, his father, who was a well-known politican, his job and his family. While he held many responsible, he didn't let his hate, anger, and sadness hold him back. It was during this time that he moved to Poland, where he helped the defense industry in that area flourish after the collapse of the Nordic Reich.

"heh, I guess my hard work didn't go unnoticed." he said as he sat in his new office. He had alot of work to accomplish. He had to introduce new doctrines and new technology, in order to push the Commonwealth to the position of military super power.

Michael Saviri in this office.

Therefore, Michael Saviri immediately announced his agenda concerning the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Poland and Czechoslovakia. It was simple and to the point.

1. The Military Industrial Complex will be placed in an umbrella corporation, known as Santhe Commonwealth Defense National. This unified organization will ease the R&D process. All major arms production companies in the Commonweath will have a seat on the board of directions, with the Minister of Defense leading the organization.

2. The Commonwealth will undergo radical changes to it's military doctrine.

3. There will be a 5% increase in the Defense Budget.

4. Research and Development will begin on new applications, immediately.

"Being accused of being a Nordic Socialist? If you are going to acccuse me, you might as well accuse the twelve millions citizens in Europe who happened to work in menial civil service and production jobs during the era of the Greater Nordic Reich. Future leaders of the nations now in Europe? You might as well accuse them of being Nordic as well.

I'd recommend you work on your logic, my friends."

Major Arms Contract Awarded to Stevetti Arms. Advanced Satellite Research also underway

Stavetti Army Ground Systems and Munitions has been awarded a 5.1 billion dollar Ministry of Defense contract to design an array of handheld weapons and vehicles, for ground combat.

The contract awarded by the Commonwealth Defense Advanced Research Agency was for the first phase of a program dubbed "Future Advancement," which is designed to push the military of the commonwealth well into the future.

In addition, the Minister of Defense has awarded a contract for 'fractionated' satellites to numerous space technological corporations. These systems will be used in future combat weapons, such as surface launched ICBMs and other munitions.

He helped develop the weapons that Nordland used. If there was a Nordic Socialist to be pointed at in this government, this man is it.

He was nothing more than a low-level man working for an arms bureau that was in Nordland. If you want to go and point fingers at Nordic Socialists, point at ones that actually were legitimately in government, and those that actually designed the system of government itself, not those that merely worked for assorted Nordlandic companies.

The Commonwealth remains one of very few nations in Europe that actually acknowledges its Nordic heritage, so I suppose these wild, unreasonable accusations are to be expected of the uninformed, paranoid people outwith Europe.

"yes, he was a nordic socialist BUT YOU'RE NOT IN EUROPE"

Thanks for admitting he was a Nordic Socialist and trying to make us seem irrelevant by point out obvious geographic facts.

Michael Saviri stood in the main conference room of the Polska Kompania Statku, one of the main Naval Design Bureaus in the Commonwealth. He was surrounded by his usual entourage of personal advisors, friends and bodyguards. Infront of him stood various scientist, most of whom were personal friends of the defense minister.

Michael Saviri moved closer to the large blueprint infront of him, as he shifted his signature shades.

"What do you have for me, today?" Saviri asked as he scanned the blueprint.

"What we have today for you Mr.Defense Minister is a weapon beyond amazing. You could call it an Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile." one of the scientist responded.

"Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile? I had heard of something similar developed by the old Greater Nordic Reich. I didn't know we had the technology to develop such a system." Saviri responded

The lone scientist shifted his lab coat and responded, "Well, sir, it is complicated but it can be done."

Saviri shifted his shades, "explain to me, how does this work?"

"Well, the system is to work as impregnable weapon. Normal Surface to Air Missiles wouldn't work against such a system. Essentially, it's an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile capable of attacking ships."

"Won't attacking a moving target be hard?" Saviri asked.

"Attacking a moving target, especially a moving naval target would pose a significant challenge for any missile system. For the V-3B Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile to succeed, the system would need constant updated intelligence from a number of sensor systems, both land and cosmic based. For the ground detection part of the system, Scientist decided to go with over the horizon (OTH) radar systems. OTH radar systems are primarily employed for early warning purposes, capable of viewing targets beyond the point where the majority of modern radar systems are constrained by the radar horizon.

Scientist had a choice between sky wave and surface wave radar systems. Sky wave radar systems are often more commonly referred to as OTH-B (backscatter) systems The primary drawback of an OTH-B radar is the presence of a large "blind zone", an area where the radar has no viewing capability. This is derived from the fact that the radars function by reflecting radar waves, usually in the 5 to 28 MHz frequency range, off of the Earths ionosphere. These reflected radar waves then reflect off of airborne or surface targets and travel back to the receiver.

When the Scientist saw these issues with the "backscatter" systems, they went with the surface wave radar system. OTH-SW eliminates the "blind zone" found in OTH-B systems. OTH-SW systems diffract radar waves around the Earth along the surface of the ocean, allowing them to travel beyond the traditional radar horizon. OTH-SW uses advanced Doppler processing techniques to filter out surface clutter and allow for accurate target detection.

Beyond that, the Ballistic Missile would also need an array of space sensor technology. This technology would come in the form is newly developed satellites, which will have EO (Earth Obersvation), CCD Imaging (charge-coupled device), and SAR (Synthetic aperture radar). Bringing this altogether will be radar altimeter, to measure the ocean topography, a comm relay network for datalinking the radar information from the other assets (awacs or the like, 400km from the target) and GPS downlinking will work alongside other units to maximize accuracy in hitting ships on the open seas. On the otherhand, the commonwealth could launch many short duration, micro-Earth Observation satellites in times of conflict.

Another system that will be used will be UAVs. While not needed, they will help by painting a more accurate picture, by doing advanced scouting in front of the war zone. Essentially, the OTH radar will give the base initial idea of incoming fleet. This information would be combined with data of the recon satellites to provide a more precise and more accurate targeting data. In the cruising process, the missile would have to continuously communicate with the base through those new data relay satellites to improve the precision."

An unusual grin appeared on the Defense Ministers face. "Simply, amazing. When will this be placed in production?"

"As soon as you wish, Defense Minister" the Defense Minister responded

Saviri shook his head, "I am most impressed with you all. This design is simply amazing. This will be a nice addition to the Naval build up I have planned."

Each Waterjet is equipped with a directional exhaust and intakes to improve manoeuvrability and turning ability

OOC: Where to start...

Oh, yah, there is no way any nation could ever afford this. By size alone, this thin is as big as 4-6 Nimitz class aircraft carriers taped together (The Nimitz haz a Length of 317 meters, and a beam of 78 meters at the widest, and 41 meters at the waterline). That puts the (Mostly unarmed) cost at 22,500,000,000 USD. When you throw in some 109 million dollar laser anti missile units, put some real weapons on it, I would not be surprised if the cost doubled.

Then, when you factor in the price to maintain that monster, pay the crew, keep it functioning, you would have yearly upkeep costs of well over 500,000,000$.

Finally, that doesn't factor in that, according to everything I've found, the Nimitz, one fifth or so of this ship, doesn't have fantastic armor. It is on a principle more of "It's cheaper and easier to stop the ship from being hit, rather than make it take the hits." That's going to add quite a bit of money to the costs.

In closing, you have a ship four to six times larger than on of the largest ships ever built, with the crew of less than one, that costs roughly $25.37 per second without armament or fuel it exists, not counting the price to build.

That is really looking like a big, floating, godmod.

EDIT: And to make clear, that's for one. If you have more, well, you know, it costs more

EDIT2: Also, your nation has had a connection to the sea for less than a year, even in IC time, there is no way you could build a fishing trawler, let alone a a massive godmod ship in that time.

IC: "We feel very sorry for your people. Seeing how much money you are spending on military, we cannot imagine how neglected they must be within the nation. So sad."

OOC: Actually, you're right. The ship would be expensive which is why only two are planned. You can speak to Merger about that. The armour isn't *that* fantastic. It's basic stuff you would learn in any advanced chemistry course in college and with a little basic reading. However, I would be willing to tone down the armour to something basic if it makes you feel better to something such as:

Hardened reinforced steel hull, spaced face hardened steel armour with additional L3 TV4A6 armour panelling around most areas. Nylon composite spall liners are incorporated in all areas of the ship. Full and comprehensive shock-proofed superstructure.

Expensive? yes. God mod? hardly. of course, these are simple developments. I didn't state they were going into production. That is up to Voodoo and Merger, of course.

OOC: I'll ignore the tech specifics as that's not where my knowledge is on this topic. Three things.

1. Not even in production. These are blueprints.

2. Like any person with Modern tech makes an attempt to RP an economy with budgets. I can name one or two people that actually do to a degree.

3. At least let us research and develop it. Who knows, maybe it will fail? Don't speak on an R&D before we even start it.

Now, I'll say this again. No more OOC. PM Merger or Myself any issues you have.

OOC: Just going to say, taking things to PM usually doesn't work because people ignore them. Maybe I'm still paranoid because of the days of LeVentNoir and his "If you think my stuff is impossible, PM me so I can ignore it and nobody else sees your arguments" attitude, but when it comes to potential god mods, I think the entire community has the right to see the arguments behind something.

OOC: Apologies, but I have a relevant comment here. the principle of the matter is the same. Even if you have stuff to back it up--taking it to PM's means no one but the questioner sees the answer to your points. At the very least, establish an OOC thread in the Open National forum where people can address their concerns, and provide an easily accessible link to it in this thread or in your signature.
