By far, there were many challenges for France to master, from the worrisome inception as the least of all evils to the World War, times were harsh. But even so, there were those who believed in the République, in the ideals of the revolution. The nation had not yet given up. France... France was the glory of centuries, the splendour and might of a great power, the shining light of freedom and true civilisation. And with an indomitable will, la France had survived the woes of the trenches, had defeated her enemy and thrown back the Germans across the Rhine. Alsace-Lorraine had been reclaimed, as had been the honour of all Frenchmen. So devastating had been the defeat, that the German state in its foundations had been crushed. But the destruction also was felt by the French themselves, as the war had claimed many sons of the nation, had left widows and orphans, had caused a demographic disaster. What was left of the old world? What was left of Europe, which had been shaken by the most gruesome and brutal of all wars? Little was left. The states had suffered, Europe was on the decline. The French colonial Empire, it had disintegrated almost utterly, France was rolled back to Metropolitan France, it's ancient lands and Algerie. But amidst the Chaos, France had survived. The future of the Mediterranean belongs to the Italian people. We are willing to negotiate, but Italy has no intention of letting foreign powers dominate North Africa. Our troops and subjects in Tripoli must be secure, and a stable and safe supply line established. Control of the Tunisian coast is central to this strategy. Fizzydog Posted September 10, 2014 Report Share Posted September 10, 2014 Italy makes similar note that any attempt of French forces to seize Tunisian land will be considered an assault on Italian soil. We do not wish for war, but we can not assure our Peoples' safety in Tripoli if foreign governments surround our land. As the head of our colonial administration lies in Tripoli, the region is critically important for establishment of a strong, secure colonial program; a foreign soldiers, especially of a democratic government, mere miles away from this headquarters is a major security risk and danger. The Italian government would be willing to partition the country, but will not accept French domination of a territory so close to Tripoli and Sicily, along with its position near a critical supply route. Centurius Posted September 10, 2014 Report Share Posted September 10, 2014 With the history between France and Russia it seemed clear with the return of both states it was time to see what was left of that old flame that had boundd the Third Republic and Russian Empire before, as such a message was sent to the French Foreign Minister. Minister Barthou, First of all let me say I am glad to see France, while hit hard, has survived the chaos of these last few decades. Decades ago my grandfather and France came to an agreement that would serve the needs of both parties. We are once again faced with a crisis, with our state a fraction of its former self and your own loss of colonial empire it seems it is a time for old friendships to return. It is in line with this that I would like to formally invite a representative from the Third French Republic to discuss the future of Franco-Russian relations. I congratulate the people of France on establishing a functioning form of government that suites their needs, something I can relate to having recently announced the unity of Ireland. France and the Celts have, and always will have, a special relationship that I hope we can highlight in the months to come. I also look forward to establishing a form of legislature to better hear from the needs of the people, perhaps my council and I will be able to look at the French model for certain Republican aspects. In general however, and for all future correspondence, France is not 'back from the dead' and we need not be recognised like some Balkan breakaway state. France has existed since medieval times and the french Third Republic has existed already for over half a century.
