1.
Also it's kind of hilarious to toot your own "we're so awesome" horn while trying to drive CoJ into the ground. If this announcement had some modicum of truth then everyone would be leaving without punitive terms.
It's even more hilarious that you're accusing DH of tooting our own horn whilst defending CoJ, an alliance full of horn-tooters.
 2. Sithis took a moment, collected himself, and placed a comforting hand on the Duchess' shoulder. "Don't apologize. I know we have only just met, but I have known people for years and not gotten to know them like I feel like I know you now. We are both chess pieces on the same board while everyone else around us is waiting for the next move. I respect tradition, formalities, and manners just like anyone else in our position would, but sometimes the situation is appropriate where your inhibitions may be thrown to the wind. And I feel that way with you, here, right now." He stopped, walked closer to the Duchess, and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
 3. Well you see, it all does really matter. For example, if I was addressing the Hopeless Coalition, and I said something like "Your going to lose," it could be quite confusing. What are they going to lose? Their tonsils? Their virginities? It really doesn't make any sense, considering that second option is completely impossible. Now if I say to you, "You're going to lose," it implies that you ARE going to lose, which would not have any sort of appropriate context unless you examine the one in which it was given. I, a member of Doom House, speaking to you, a member of the Hopeless Coalition, telling you that you are going to lose, can only mean that you are going to lose this war. Which you will. Or, for a more personal explanation: You're in anarchy so you're losing. 4. "A trip to Realm can be arranged immediately, and I assure you that I will return every courtesy that you've shown me here." Sithis paused and stepped closer to the Duchess, turning his attention to the constant flow of the fountain in front of them. "Yet, your majesty, allow me to be frank," Sithis said, turning back to Maria, "This is a very beautiful place, almost as beautiful as the host itself. I can't help but notice though, there seems to be an interesting feeling permeating throughout this palace. Despite your intricate decorations and homages to Austrian culture, what interests me the most is you yourself. Behind your kind gestures, I've noticed the hollow feeling of loneliness." "I too know the feeling, believe me. If my years of being Lord of the great kingdom of Realm have taught me anything, it's that I am merely an actor on the world stage, a pawn in the great game of life. I have impacted the lives of millions, conquered territory, waged wars, but I've never developed a significant connection with anyone." Sithis stopped again, and stared deep into Maria's gray eyes. Stepping even closer, he again began to speak. "I've developed friendships with other great leaders, but nothing beyond that. Until I met you." Sithis stopped suddenly, wrapped his arms around the Duchess, and pulled her in for a long embrace. As their lips gently touched, Sithis felt the Duchess wrap her arms around him. Miles Cortigan took a moment in his room, graciously presented to him by the Duchess' brother a few hours earlier, and admired the view from his window. The cloudy skyline that had complemented the expansive Austrian castle had now dissipated, and the gentle sun that poked through offered a romantic end to the day's diplomatic meeting. Unraveling his necktie, he paused and opened the dossier in front of him, preparing to draft a document cementing a Realmic-Austro alliance. Before beginning, he poured himself a glass of water and walked over to the window, where he noticed his Lord and the Duchess in the garden. Ever the behind the scenes man, Miles chuckled to himself lightly before turning back to the desk and his diplomatic duties. He prepared himself to not see Sithis until the morning.
 5.
We have been humbled and we have been forced to look at ourselves in a different light. Today we walk down a different path than that of yesterday; the rescinding of the Moldavi Doctrine is but one step in that direction.
Glad to see step two has finally been announced, when you're again at the losing end of things. Oh, and two years have gone by.
 6. Lord Sithis gladly accepted the Duchess' invitation and enjoyed their private stroll through the magnificent palace that his companion resided in. He allowed his host to take his arm and lead the way through her home, and promised himself that he would return her hospitality one day by showing her the magnificent natural beauty of Realm. Turning his attention back to the Duchess, he allowed his left arm to be wrapped by hers while he placed his right hand on hers. Her skin was incredibly soft and gentle to the touch. 'Focus on the business,' he though to himself, although Maria's beauty was most distracting. "Well, your highness, the current shareholder situation is this: I control a significant majority of the company with a 59% ownership, my second-in-command, Duke Banastre Scanlon IV of Assaye, owns the second-largest, and various businessmen and nobles of Realm control the rest. I would be willing to negotiate share ownership, it is essentially my company since I, as Lord of Realm, control its charter and the majority of shares. I would still retain majority ownership and the Duke would as well, but I'd be willing to part with some shares. How much are you looking to buy?" "I would also insist," Sithis continued, "That you make a visit to Realm and see what you are investing in."
 7. Foreign Minister Cortigan smiled at the Duchess, and returned his gracious host's reply with a calm confidence. "Of course, any economic alliance I think would mandate a close military relationship between our nations. I can have something drawn up during our stay here, I've come prepared. As for the Hapsburg interest in the West Africa Company, I must defer to Lord Sithis for your interest there. The WAC can facilitate the economic exchange between our two countries, but it is a private company, despite its close partnership with the Crown." "Thank you, Miles, for being understanding in this matter," Lord Sithis stepped in as his colleague explained the intricate nature between the West Africa Company and Realm. "Your highness, if it's not too much of a bother, would it be possible for the Foreign Minister here to receive a tour while we go and discuss your interest in the West Africa Company?" Sithis had noticed the Duchess warm up to his inadvertent flirting, and he couldn't help but return her steady gaze.
 8.
Extract from Doomhouse's guide to OWF.
Your possession of this top secret information is grounds for a declaration of war. The Doom House guide to the OWF is privy ONLY to DH members, and you therefore must have obtained it through espionage. I can't say what the terms will be like when the NPO capitulates and admits defeat, but since you have just provided concrete evidence that you spied on us, I can assure you that you they will be much harsher. GOOD DAY, sir.
 9.
Spending all my nights All my money going out on the town Doing anything just to get you off of my mind But when the morning comes I'm right back where I started again Trying to forget you is just a waste of time Baby come back, any kind of fool could see There was something in everything about you Baby come back, you can blame it all on me I was wrong, and I just can't live without you Come back to me, baby. You can leave your peace mode behind.
 10.
From the desk of His Majesty, Lord Sithis I of Realm To Rhianne Lucretia Sidamo, Reigning Sovereign of House Sidamo, for the Principality of Aeon, The Kingdom of Realm was saddened to see the violence and instability in its former home in East Africa. While I wish I could attend your grace's coronation personally, diplomatic duties have called me away temporarily. However, I hope you will accept the attendance of Banastre Scanlon IV, who, as Duke of Assaye, is the second in command of Realm. I can speak for the Duke and myself by saying Realm looks forward to a new era of stability in East Africa. Sincerely, Sithis I Lord of Realm
11.
Having been in CNRP for around two and a half years now, I've realized one thing: I don't give a !@#$ about some things, and I'm gonna RP my stuff. I'll let people RP theirs, as well, provided they don't go insane with it.
This is also something I've realized, and I've come to terms with it.
Now I play the big nation devil's advocate: The problem I have with no restriction on you based on your IG ability is that it leads to gross abuses. The reason a CN nation is an attractive nation to role play with versus the other big game is that in my opinion, CN gives you a reasonable measure of everyone's strength. If you look at other games you see things like super dreadnaughts which measure multi kilometers in length. These were RPed over a number of years but the natural tendency is for people to escalate. Yes some people will say that they personally just want to RP stories, but there are quite a few people who want to grab as much land as possible to RP their ideal kingdom. There are others like myself who enjoy politically oriented RPGs who are somewhere in between. For the first category not having very much to go on is fine. But for the other ones you need to have parameters to keep things from getting too out of hand. This is especially true when it comes to technology. The last thing you want is people like LVN who used every bit of technojargon he could find to make warships which were stealth, went 200 mph on the open ocean, and fired unstoppable kinetic energy missiles which could find everything he wanted them too because he had a super sensor which detected everything in the world due to his uber super computer. Personally I find its just common sense for small nations not to have a lot of capability as far as military, although I suppose there could be a role for being a North Korea if you built a !@#$ ton of older guns or something. I do not think every nation should have F-22s at 100 NS though. Rather, I think it would be much better if nations such as these ones focused on learning politics and making strong friends. When I came back and I was under terms, my military was quite weak. I was able to position myself well by first doing a lot of research about the political situation and then making deals with stronger powers in a potentially hostile neighborhood. If you want to jump into power politics instead of being isolationist this is the smartest thing to do.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying here and I think that in-game stats are a good indicator of where someone should start. I'm not saying that there be no limitations, merely that the limitations are either excessive or vague. My OP was more about the general attitude people have versus the actual problems with the limitations.
 12. Allow me to preface by saying that I apologize for the massive wall of text. I in no way expect everyone to agree with me, and feel free to reply with everything you disagree with, but please be specific (i.e. quoting) so I can understand where you're coming from. CNRP has changed a lot since I began, over three years ago. In those days, it was a community of people within Cyber Nations that dropped their alliance affiliations and came together out of a mutual interest in creating a very detail-oriented, very intricate, and very dynamic world. There weren't any forums dedicated to CNRP, aside from the News Reports sections where most of the CNRP stuff was played out. It was there that I first created the world of my nation at the time, Realm, and where I got my taste of the beginnings of what is today CNRP. There wasn't an IRC channel, or a separate forum for OOC discussion - hell, the World Map thread that I revived wasn't even pinned. Was it disorganized? Yes. Is the organization of CNRP a lot better nowadays? Yes. Does this mean it has better communication? No. And herein lies the problem. CNRP has evolved into this monster of "You can't do this because of X" discussion. Anytime there's any kind of technology or military involved, people react like someone killed their dog. When I started, there wasn't any sort of guideline for what kind of military you had, there was just a general understanding that you wouldn't RP ridiculous stuff like supersoldiers or mech machines. CNRP comes with a certain degree of the suspension of disbelief, but to a limited extent. And in those days, if someone's RP was ridiculous it was ignored (meaning no one posted in it and the topic died). For an example of what things used to be like, look no further than this thread. Everyone who participated in that RP knew how much fun it was to see the developments in an international military operation. But for those of you who read it now, note the lack of OOC discussion about military capabilities. The focus was on the general situation involving the Kingdom of Sahrani's collapse, and that's where the focus should always lie. Don't get me wrong, I love details, we all do. That's what makes this world even more realistic; details allow us to make this CNRP world exist. However, details are a gift and a curse. They can permit discussions to get bogged down in semantical arguments and make people lose sight of the general picture. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what kind of caliber rifle your troops use, or what kind of tank your country has in its employ, as long as it's something falling within the realm of reality. There should be limitations as to what things like these can be, but they should not be nearly as strict as what has come up in OOC discussion that I've seen. Often times, the arguments that I've seen come from older or larger players in CNRP against newcomers who are just breaking into the world that we all enjoy. Yes, these newcomers often don't know what they're doing, and gentle instruction is all that is needed. And as an old CNRP player (*shakes cane*) I believe that the older players deserve a certain amount of respect. Yet just because a nation is small in game or new to CNRP (or both) does not mean that they cannot have the IC capabilities that some other, older/larger nations enjoy. These newcomers should be told a very simple statement: if they intend on increasing their military, technological, etc. capabilities, then they should RP a gradual development over time. The result of this would mean more active, invested players who have an understanding of what this community is and will in turn reinforce that understanding to newcomers. There is another issue here, and it's a cultural one. Perhaps this is a personal note and I may be in the wrong, but CNRP is much more than just coming to these forums and detailing how large your military stockpile is. CNRP is about the interactions of people we all created, intricate characters who have personalities we crafted over time. It's not some dick waving contest where you can say that because you have a nuclear stockpile that you are the strongest nation and no one can touch you. Half the reason I come in here is because I'm studying politics and history, and there's no better way to practice my knowledge of both of those by implementing them in an alternate reality. I didn't come on here to debate military logistics of battleships, and I won't. If I'm going to get into something as complicated as a military operation with you, expect a private message so we can work out an understanding of how the events will occur. I encourage all CNRP players to do the same. End rant.
 13.
Rest knowing that you have left your mark upon this world. We will never forget you, Anathema.
Sunday, March 13th - the end of the Anathemic. Farewell, Anathema. We hardly knew ye.
 14. Congratulations are owed to PC for a decisive victory, and to both parties for being able to negotiate successful surrender terms for RoK. Here's to moving forward.
 15. As the trio enjoyed lunch together, Sithis took a moment to take in the surrounding Viennese skyline. The view from the balcony was extended version of the preview he received in the car on the trip over. As he returned back to the scene of diplomacy, he hoped he would see the city again. "I completely understand, your highness. It is hard to think of Africa as a formidable political force. The current state affairs, simply put, is absolutely dreadful. Mr. Cortigan here and the Foreign Ministry have been working tirelessly to reach out to old allies in Africa, hoping that we can brink back stability to the region. It will be a gradual process, as these things usually must be handled with much care. While there is a great concern about Africa's stability and well-being, there's also a degree of sovereignty that must be respected. In the end, what's best for everyone will prevail." He paused to enjoy the food in front of him, while Cortigan cleared his throat. "Your highness, permit me to speak about an alliance between Realm and Austria," Cortigan's voice was deep, but had a calmness about it that revealed much about the temperament of its speaker. "It seems that we both have a mutual respect for each other's nations, regardless of military strength, even though we both have somewhat limited means at this point. That being said, Realm has always boasted an impressive economy, and the plethora of natural resources in Africa could benefit many people here in Europe." Sithis took a break from enjoying the Austrian delicacies in front of him to elaborate on Cortigan's point. "My colleague makes an excellent point here. Our recent acquisition of Romulus in the Antarctic has proved to be an extremely profitable endeavor. I can safely say that Cheydinhal is now the diamond capital of Africa, and we're producing much, much more. The West Africa company has plans to harness gold deposits in northeast Realm, while on our western border, there is an abundance of oil and lead that will help us produce microchip technology. In your interest, any alliance that may come out of our time here should have an economic clause. Perhaps a private investment in the West Africa Company could be in the cards as well." Sithis sipped his coffee and turned his attention to the cakes on the table. As he did, he caught a whiff of a scent not from the food, but from something else even more pleasing. Realizing that it was the Duchess' perfume, Sithis looked up, and caught the gaze of her majesty. 'That photo really did not do her justice,' Sithis thought, and allowed himself to get distracted by the beauty of the woman in his company while Cortigan took the initiative in handling the diplomacy.
 16. This aggression will not stand, man.
 17. I give this thread two fart noises and a dismissive wank. Public apologies do go a long way, though hopefully FAN's nose is good enough to smell how terrible this thing reeks.
 18. Lord Sithis was just waking up from his nap as his captain announced the final descent into Austria. While some heads of state preferred to travel in flying fortresses, Lord Sithis I chose instead the intimate comfort of a specially modified private plane, capable of seating 12 and, thanks to an extra fuel tank, longer flights than most crafts its size. Sithis glanced over at Cortigan, whose perfectly coiffed hair gave no indication of the labor intensive reading that he was doing. Looking at the seat next to him, Sithis realized that he was provided a copy of the same material that his Foreign Minister was a perusing - a carefully prepared briefing on the government of Austria and its recent activity. Glancing through the bound portfolio, Sithis looked at photos of the state officials of the extremely Catholic country and stopped at one - the Duchess Maria herself. Calling the blonde Austrian attractive wouldn't be enough, the Duchess espoused a beauty that was complemented by a look of sheer determination. Sithis was looking forward to making her acquaintance. As the wheels of his plane touched down, Sithis stretched his legs and walked out with Cortigan leading the way. An elaborate welcoming committee greeted them on the tarmac and Lord Sithis returned the bow of the thin, white-haired Austrian in front of him. "Minister Kant, I am most delighted to meet you. Allow me to present His Majesty, Lord Sithis I." Cortigan stepped aside for Sithis to greet the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs. "Greetings, Herr Kant." Lord Sithis had a limited vocabulary of German, but he used it when he could. Climbing into the limo, Sithis took advantage of the final leg of the journey to take in the sights and sounds of Vienna. The tight, winding streets combined with baroque architecture reminded him of Cheydinhal, and Lord Sithis had a feeling this would not be his last visit. As the limos pulled into Hofburg Courtyard, Sithis admired the beauty of the palace in front of him and strode eagerly in to meet the Duchess. The photo on the plane didn't do her any justice; the monarch seemed to have a glow about her. "Sehr angenehm, Herzogin Maria." Sithis bowed in front of the woman, a gesture only given by him to other heads of state. He accepted the Duchess' invitation to sit down and prepared to give a crash course on Realmic history. "Many may seem puzzled as to why and how a nation like Realm is in Africa. The truth is pretty simple really - our nation has its roots in Great Britain many centuries ago. Through exploration, we set up a home in the Sudan that became a home away from home for the Realmic civilization, and, after a government collapse on the mainland, the Sudan became our permanent home. In recent years, internal strife and famine led to the demise of Realm, but our new home in West Africa is most comforting." Sithis paused and allowed the Duchess to digest the wealth of information he just provided, while Cortigan, ever the observer and 'behind the scenes man,' sat silently nearby. "I cannot speak personally for why Realm is held in such high regard in the minds of other rulers, although I can think of several reasons why. I always preferred diplomacy and conversation to war and battles, although I did serve in the Royal Army Forces of Realm prior to my Lordship. I united Africa, long considered a turbulent continent, under the banner of the Pan-African Coalition and we were a formidable political force. I've always treated my enemies with respect and my friends with neverending loyalty. Hopefully I can include you and your people in the latter group."
 19. Cheydinhal, Realm. Lord Sithis I eagerly awaited the arrival of the Novakian delegation for the day's scheduled talks. Diplomatic discussions had been exchanged between the Kingdom of Realm and Novak for some time now, and His Majesty was eager to cement the friendship in writing. Novak has always been a historical ally of Realm, and Lord Sithis was looking forward to rekindling the fire of amity. In the main hall of Castle Bruma, the warm air of the Atlantic Ocean blew gently through the propped windows of the medieval castle. Sithis paused and reflected on the capital city below him, teeming with activity; the hilltop upon which the castle sat gave a commanding view of Cheydinhal. Turning back to the room, Sithis took notice of the framed political map of the world on the far wall. While he was eager to conduct his first state visit to Austria tomorrow, he knew that his old friend deserved his attention first. While he waited for the Novakian representatives to arrive, Sithis reviewed the treaty that lay on the table before him.
The Cheydinhal Pact A Treaty of Mutual Defense and Optional Aggression between the Kingdom of Realm and Novak Article I: Mutual Defense Any declaration of war upon a member of either nation is considered an act of aggression to the undersigned member nations. Peace will only be offered through mutual consent of the nations represented by the undersigned; and only accepted under the same terms. Diplomatic channels will remain open in the event that a declaration of war by an outside nation is an unsanctioned operation. Article II: Mutual Aggression Neither nation is obliged to partake in assistance in offensive wars, all military or monetary support is strictly to be decided by each sovereign nation, yet both are encouraged to support each other when needed. Article III: Intelligence Both signatories agree to the highest level of mutual cooperation in the intelligence field. In the interest of preserving the bond of friendship as well maintaining the security of either nation, the undersigned agree to share intelligence critical to those aspects. The territory that each embassy sits on will be considered soil of the nation who operates it and thus fall under their jurisdiction and management. Article VI: Termination This treaty shall only be terminated if either undersigned nation chooses to exit this treaty or if Article III is found to be violated by a member nation. If one of the undersigned chooses to terminate this pact, they must give three (3) days notice before the treaty is officially dissolved in which they remain fully bonded to the provisions contained therein. The Undersigned do agree to respect and adhere to the Articles written above, both in the spirit and letter in which they are written. Signatures For Realm, For Novak,
20.
Misunderstanding happen, I talked of spies for a bit and then dropped the idea when we decided to go a different route with the alliance.
Yeah, you decided to go a different route when you were ousted as planning an alliance that was based upon a spy ring.
 21. Under the heel of his brown leather hunting boots, the twigs in Wellesley Conservatory snapped under Lord Sithis I. The cold, damp morning air was exponentially getting warmer as the traipsed through the green brush of the African grassland in front of him. His monthly hunting trips were never interrupted - the concrete confines of Castle Bruma would often stifle His Majesty, and the African countryside in Realm offered a well deserved break when he became overwhelmed. Sensing a commotion up ahead, Sithis stopped and slowly turned the safety off on his West Africa Company shotgun. The classic hunting shotgun was an ornate mixture of wood and silver, given to him as a gift by the current President of the West Africa Company, his close friend, Viscount Guy Tarleton. Behind him was Colonel Horatio Picton, a seasoned military officer who served under Lord Sithis during the famous Sahrani Campaign and now served as Chief of Security for the Company. Accompanying the two was Sithis' favorite hunting dog, Copenhagen, and Picton's own retriever, Hannibal. Suddenly, a group Harlequin Quail sprung out of some bushes a mere thirty yards ahead of Lord Sithis. With cat-like reflexes, Sithis aimed and pulled the trigger while Picton followed suit. A few thuds in the distance confirmed the two had hit their mark, reaffirmed by the prizes their dogs brought back after tearing after the fallen birds. After examining their kills for the day, Sithis and Picton walked the mile back to where they had began their journey, at Fort Artorious, where government workers oversaw affairs while Sithis enjoyed some much deserved leisure time. One eager aide walked up to His Majesty with a leatherbound dossier with an intricate piece of stationary. Presenting the letter to the Lord of Realm, Sithis began to read. "Ah, yes," he muttered. "One of our first diplomatic invitations. Picton, our hunting trip will have to resume another time. I have urgent business to attend to in Austria." Leaving his companion behind, Lord Sithis got in the waiting helicopter to take him back to Cheydinhal and Castle Bruma. Upon arriving in his home, he immediately began drafting a letter of reply to Duchess Maria.
From the desk of His Majesty, Lord Sithis I of Realm To the honorable and esteemed Empress Maria Magdalena von Hapsburg of Austria, It pleases me greatly to hear from a government like yours, especially when it concerns the expansion of our relationship. We would like to immediately purchase 35 M103 Sedans to serve as the principal method of transportation of Company agents, and we would also like to discuss the possibility of constructing a Masibau factory within Realm to expand Masibau's participation in the country's transportation industry, as well as future investment options for Masibau and the WAC. 24. From the desk of His Majesty, Lord Sithis I of Realm Let it be known that the Kingdom of Realm stands completely behind its ally in Novak. The actions by Zaboor are irrational, uninformed, and could have been avoided had cooler heads prevailed. While we encourage a diplomatic resolution to this conflict, Realm wishes to affirm Novak's right to defend its economic endeavors, including any sort of exclusivity zone that it constructs around its territory. Signed on this day, Sithis I Lord of Realm
 25.
Saying "We're sorry for everything" doesn't really cut it when, confronted by specific past actions, you respond with, "Oh, we didn't do that." I can think of several instances where this has happened with multiple alliances, including my own.
This basically sums up why the whole "the NPO already paid their dues" argument doesn't really pan out. You can't really apologize for the errors of your ways if you don't realize what the errors were in the first place.
