1. I wish the best of luck, but I'll admit I am cynical as to the effectiveness of economic blocs. It's also interesting to see purple taking this step after the various other purple blocs over the years.
2. It's been a long time since I've been involved much with maroon alliances, sadly. I wish all the best to MA and CSN for their new union.
3. I don't think the politics of this game have really stagnated any further since 2007. Wars are still fought, treaties are still signed and the cycle of gameplay has not changed. Although the Manhattan Project wonder may stand against that last statement. Granted, the membership has halved since I started playing, but twenty thousand is still a decent number. As for alliance leadership, the it's a similar path anywhere. Join an alliance, build rapport with as many people as you can, rule a certain department with strong competence, then take the next step. (Note: RL relationships occasionally have an influence on the selection of leaders and deputies). I was in MCXA for two and a half years before becoming Chancellor, previously being Minister of Finance. But fact is, most new alliances that start up are run by people who have no !@#$@#$ clue, hence leading them into collapse. I've played this game for almost 4 years, been in MCXA govt for months and still sometimes feel like a noob. But there are times when you have to be humble and times when you cannot be. Now onto diplomacy. I think if you play this game properly, you don't just lead your alliance. You lead other alliances. Have strength of character, win a war, rise to the top.
4. I lol'd when I saw the result. I think it's pretty obvious what's going on there with the poll-stacking But to be serious, I think that MK would have to take the crown these days. At one stage, they were able to drop all of their treaties at once and have the comfort of knowing a large chunk of the Cyberverse would be willing to back them up. Furthermore, their efforts from the Karma War are not forgotten. For a number of alliances in this game, they were they people who gave them their modern ranking, the leaders of the non-NPO and an important part of OWF politics. So I would say that MK are in fact the scariest alliance in this game, as they have the most diplomatic 'power over' others.
5. I think that this alliance is going to be fairly successful. By that, I mean it will likely grow to a decent number of about 40 and stay that way for a number of years, if its leaders have a sense of humility and do not throw in the towel because of 'inactivity'. Managed well, I see this becoming as a very tight-knit alliance. Its impact on the game will be small, but if there's any advice I can give to the leaders is that they have to be humble with what they have.
6. Thank you Damsky for keeping me out of the optometrist's office. Short DoW announcements ftw.
7. I share your concerns of the triumvirate system, \m/. It's the system I'm happy to be a part of, although at times, there can be a misunderstanding of who to turn to when times get rough. That said, there have been some very stable and long-lived alliances of varying sizes with triumvirates. On the other hand, some of the more influential alliances we've seen over the years involve a single monarch. Good luck, I'll be keeping track of how you fare after a change of system.
8. Congratulations folks, best wishes. Can't say I've ever had any problem with either alliance involved and this treaty makes a lot of sense.
9. I think I have had an epiphany. Tolwyn is George Bush. Not the starter of this thread. I mean the actual 43rd President of the United States George Bush. Just putting it out there. This GeorgeWBush on the other hand... well, we all need role models and an enemy.
10. Firstly, this is a really trivial matter. Secondly, why did you take so long. Why not just as soon as they removed your embassy?
11. Winning over the hearts and minds of those who are undecided through elegant prose and OWF presence. This reminds me of the Vox days. Perhaps NPO have learnt quickly and will come back to be more diplomatically strong than ever. Sir Paul, king of Vox Pacifica? Vox Hegemon?
12. I think I'm going to be the fly in the ointment for a little bit. What we deem to be a 'new and upcoming alliance' isn't what it used to be. When MCXA was made around April 2007, it became sanctioned pretty quickly, had support of the the soon dominant NPO diplomatic machine, rising to be number #3 alliance. So, just saying, that's a standard that these new alliances have to build up to. TIO are good, they never make a wrong step. wF aren't bad either. UNSC has to be the best new micro-alliance I've seen in a while. I think they're going to go far.
13.
Vlad, I liked this so much more until I remembered the original work. If this had been an original idea, I'd have given you a brazilian dollars. Instead, as much as it pains me to say, awful awful D34th has actually come out with the best of the bunch.
Wait until you see Francoism. Nobody plagiarises (in an awesomely satirical way) quite like Vladimir.
14. To think I was just about to take my sig down... Can't say I'm not flattered
15. Best wishes to the new government.
16. Well written by Athens; well deserved by the recipients.
17. Best wishes NADC, I look forward to working with you Freddie Mercury.
18.
Yes, you do have a quite interesting voice and we did do a few CN Radio shows together. And of course the SIMS. I'll get back to you with an OWF post.
I think both your voice and bros' would raise an eyebrow...
19.
People who claim that nothing is going on politically obviously don't have as much access as they think they do. When in the history of CN has nothing been going on? When in the history of CN has nobody had ambition. Ya'll need to learn some patience and wait for GOONS to screw up.
That's another point: the glory of this game generally happens in IRC queries and secret channels. Off topic: Long time no see
20.
I wouldn't credit them with that kind of talent.
Perhaps the talent to induce much ado about nothing? In the 9 pages of this thread, how many surpass two sentences?
21. MK: blessed with the power to create much ado about nothing.
22. Back in the day this would have started a war (and I mean like, 2006). But the !@#$'s just too organised and serious now so that it seems any war could break out into a major war. Not that embassies are all that significant anyway, with the invention of IRC.
23. You said you hate MCXA because a treaty with MK didn't come to light at the last minute. Not that we care, but is there anything we can do to make it up to you? Obligatory emoticon.
24.
Sigh. When said alliance has announced TWO flag changes within a day, dropped and signed a protectorate within the same day, and feels it necessary to announce 100k then yes, it is annoying to see a barrage of threads with no substance. If everyone did this it would lead to an increase in the already ridiculous announcements made. Does anyone actually want that? Enough of this faux moralist outrage.
True, but is there really much else that happens? The MK-NSO/TFD dramas happen here and there, but not every day. Would we have enough stimulus if we were to go without the micro-alliance threads?
