  1. After months of slow but steady moving, the group was able to get the two figures out of the country, towards Greenland in a air transport carrying fur coats. When they arrived, they would be escorted to safe houses and comforted, until the one behind the operation called for them.....
  2. NOS Journaal is the broadcast supplier of news to Noordse public radio and television. NOS Journaal bulletins can be seen on channels of the Noordse Publieke Omroep, the Noordse public broadcaster, with the flagship 25-minute bulletin airing at 8:00pm every night on NOS 1 - the most watched news programme in the Uniestaat, with an audience of around 2.5 to 3.5 million viewers daily (around a fifth of the market share around that hour). As the main source of news in Noord-Uniestaat, it serves as the window to the Uniestaat and to the world.
  3. "Prussia is able to produce only 130,000 barrels a day with its oil reserves and capabilities, which is only one-third of the 360,000 barrels needed for your petrochemical industry and other industrial uses such as asphalt and lubrication. Given that there are no alternative to petroleum in those particular sectors, Prussia needs to import least over 230,000 barrels a day to keep its industry running smoothly. One cannot have a modern society with such things as basic plastics, and thus even if all energy consumption comes from renewable sources, there will always be a demand for oil short of some new technological revolution. Until such a time comes, it’ll be quite difficult for Prussia to be self-sufficient enough to not take advantage of extra oil. As for ports, I have to question whether Prussia is thinking truly economically. Prussia relies on three rivers for connections to the North Sea: Rhine, Weser, and Elbe. Almost all transportation of major goods in the Ruhr region depends on the link to the Rhine, and thus to ports in the Netherlands. While there is the option of using land transportation to the Prussian parts, consider this: around 270 million tons of goods have been transported from the Ruhr region to Dutch ports annually under the old regime. That amount of goods would require 10,800,000 truck trips, or as an alternative, 130,000 freight trains on the rail network, to be transported to their respective Prussian port destinations. The monetary and logistical costs would be astronomical. Since Noord-Uniestaat is willing to give Prussia custom union level access to our ports, without all extra fees, taxes, and paperwork which might have been required under regular circumstances, all in all there is no reason for Prussia to not take this offer short of mercantilism. Trefall waited for the facts to sink in before continuing. “If Prussia wants something more than these clear gains, then we are willing to offer you unlimited energy. The former regime had its fusion power plant on the outskirts of Berlin. Since Noord-Uniestaat has the technological capabilities to continue to operate the facility, we are willing to help Prussia keep its renewable energy projects on course by supporting the continuing operation of that fusion plant. Would that not show our commitment to good relations?”
  4. The city of Bergen is one of the most important cities in Noord-Uniestaat. Starting from being a center of trade to being a capital, it was the perfect symbol of the openness that Noord-Uniestaat stands for. That is why Bjørgvin was chosen as the capital of the Union State, and that is why the Chancellor of Prussia was invited here to discuss relations. Upon arriving at the city, Chancellor Müller would be escorted to the famed Gamlehaugen, former residence of the extinct Norwegian Royal Family in the city State Secretary Harald Trefall came out personally to greet the Chancellor. After courtesy greetings and serving of refreshments, it was to the table to discuss matters. “Herr Kanzler, I believe that our respective nations are complementary in strengthening each other’s economical situation. The hardworking dignity of the Prussian people is well known, and when provided the resources and outlet to keep the engine running, we believe that much prosperity will be generated. Noord-Uniestaat would like to offer Prussia preferable prices in our North Sea Oil, and also open Dutch ports to ensure reliable transportation of goods. In return, we would like have to access to various technological development facilities, since such locations were concentrated in Central Germany during the previous regime. I believe this would be a fair deal for the two nations. What do you say, Herr Kanzler?”
  5. Noord-Uniestaat notes the formation of the new kingdom.
  6. As the neighbor to the north, Noord-Uniestaat believes that the future of our two nations rely upon close cooperation. We wish to invite Chancellor Julian Müller to our capital of Bergen for discussions on possible economical and defense treaties.
  7. Claiming Greater Netherlands and Norway as "Noord-Uniestaat". Please use the specific orange color :)
  8. The fall of the Nordic Socialist regime allowed freedom for all those who were under it. The two regions that had been the most devestated in the various opposition to the criminals, the Netherlands and Scandinavia, were the most joyful. The blood they had shed, the pain they had to endure, were finally validated with the chance for choosing their own destiny. However, freedom to choose brought with it chaos. Some were calling to join Germany, others forming an union with the Scandinavians and the Swedes, and yet others believed they should join Athens. In the midst of those whirlwind of panic, in the Netherlands there was a public call for a meeting at de Dam. Thousands gathered at Dam Square, which lies in the historical center of Amsterdam, surrounding the National Monument. The atmosphere was that of fear, as the various changes in Europe and the splintering of the former empire into smaller countries shoke many people's faith. They needed hope, a guiding star to look towards. A young girl stood in front of the tall tower of Nationaal Monument op de Dam, looking at the scared eyes which were looking at her. She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. "Fellow citizens of Amsterdam, we are facing a great peril of our time. The former regime has fallen, and the various parts are forming into new entities as Europe is going through a turbulant phase as never before. Many are worried, fearful for the future, and some have turned to the very forces that brought forth darkness. This is not the right path. What are we? We, the people of Holland, are the most open and forward of that former regime. It is us that have kept the country from becoming truly shut off from the world, with our open commitment to prosperity and peace. We, the most liberal region, are the conscience of the our people. If we fall, our people falls. If our people falls, then it is the victory of darker forces who wish to dominate all of their kin into a single entity under a single "leader". People, look at the inscription carried on the pillar of our National Monument!" Hic ubi cor patriae monumentum cordibus intus quod gestant cives spectet ad astra dei. "This is where we have buried the heart of our fatherland, the heart that protected us from the criminal hands of those that tried to take our freedom, our rights away. Just as we gaze at God's stars, it is here that we look towards what we have spilled our blood for. What is it that we fought for? Freiheit!" Loud applauses rocked the square, with the broadcast being transmitted all around Noord-Holland. As the dark clouds of chaos gathered, a bright beam of light pierced through, showing the true path which the Netherlands was to go. Energized by the moving speech, citizens began organizing into a more centralized government intended to hold Groot-Nederland together until a true country could get back on its feet. This spread to Norway, which also took up the cause, having been the other region to shed blood against the criminals. There was also a small movement in Iceland, but for the time being it was too small for that particular island to consider joining. All this combined to form the Northern Union State. The people of the Netherlands and Norway have come together to form one united nation of Noord-Uniestaat. Our Union State, with Harald Trefall as State Secretary, strives towards peace and prosperity, maintaining each member state's personality while protecting the interests of all, following our motto of "Unity makes strength". Under the banner of humanism, we shall strive towards true freedom for our people, Europe, and the world. We hope for cordial relations with near and far nations. May freedom shine upon us!
  9. The hidden powers behind President Bjarni Benediktsson were frightened at the changes in Quebec. The swift in policy, and the absorption into Faraway meant that their deeds to cleanse Grönland of undesirable political opponents would most likely be held up as crimes. Only the Protecteur was calm, even smiling in this crisis. He would suddenly disappear into thin air while leaving his office as his followers panicked. After setting the prisoners free in the camps located in central Greenland, the officials and services members boarded a few military transports to escape to northern Quebec, where they hoped to fade among the people. However, as the transports were going over the sea, they would explode into fireballs, incinerating all on board. The extremists who had tried to hold Greenland in a steel grip were no more, and Grönland was now free to choose its destiny, with the guidance of Faraway.
  10. "Do you agree that Quebec should join Faraway to form a united country within a new economic and political partnership?" This was the question posed on the referendum ballot. The choices was simple: Quebec would either remain an independent nation or form a union with Faraway. A record 97% of registered Quebecers voted in the referendum, with 74.23% choosing yes. It was the end of independent Quebec, and the birth of a new power.
  11. Rise of Québec solidaire The Parti Démocratique du Québec (PDQ) suffered a devestating defeat as Québec solidaire (QS), a progressive party based on Nouvelle-Vicidalian support, obtained a majority in the National Assembly and won the Presidential election. Québec solidaire is a social-democratic and unionist political party formed by Nouvelle-Vicidalians who had come up north in the founding days of Quebec. With an emphasis on worker's rights and Canada unification, it was in direct opposition to the right-wing Quebec Nationalism represented by PDQ. The conflict formed the core of la Question nationale, the split in Quebec as one side demanded independence at all costs and the other supported a greater union. The victory of QS, fueld by the shift in population balance as the pro-unification Nouvelle-Vicidalians became the majority, has shown which path Quebec will go. The President-Elect Françoise Veltier gave the following comment: "The people of Quebec have given their opinion on the future of this country. For the sake of human rights, for the sake of peace, for the sake of true liberalism, I shall follow the voice of the people and work towards one true nation of Canada."
  12. It's two nominations, not three :v: TheShammySocialist KaiserMelech Mikhail
  13. Just a question concerning this post. I thought that inheriting equipment/forces was not allowed without substantial passage of RL time or RP.
  14. As Dunois was being escorted to the Imperial Palace, she made a few mental notes on the specific goals the President had set out for this meeting. Above all was a nnon-aggression pact to ensure that Quebec would not be sucked into some Eurasian War if things start heating up, especially with the conflict in Eastern Europe. A secondary goal was some form of economic agreement, with the purpose to expand Quebec's horizon by allowing it to work out various imbalances it had due to its limited population. Finally, a movement for security in the Atlantic, which Athens had a large control off, was considered. One way or another, she was going to need to make the first move once she meets whoever would have the authority to speak on Athens's behalf.
  15. Ensretning Meaning "standardization" and "bringing into line", it was the term used by the Protecteur for the process by which the Protektoratet successively established a system of totalitarian control and coordination over all aspects of society. Among the goals of this policy was to bring about adherence to a specific doctrine and way of thinking and to control as many aspects of life as possible. There was the systematic elimination of anti-Protektoratet/Quebec organizations that could potentially influence people, such as trade unions and political parties (particularly Nordic Socialists). Those critical of the regime's agenda were suppressed, intimidated or murdered. A special directive named Nat og Tåge ("Night and Fog") gave the Hemmelige Statspoliti the authority to arrest potential dissentients and secretly send them to camps in the interior, vanishing without a trace, notification, or records. Whether they lived or died, the authorities would give out no information to the families of the suspects. This was done to enhance the avoidance of arrest and to keep the populations quiet out of an atmosphere of mysterious terror and fear, under the belief that an effective and lasting deterrent can be achieved only by the death penalty or by taking measures which will leave the family and the population uncertain as to the fate of the offender. The program made it far more difficult for other governments or humanitarian organizations to accuse the Protektoratet of specific misconduct because it obscured whether or not internment or death had even occurred, let alone the cause of that internment or death. It thereby kept the regime from being held accountable. It allowed across-the-board, silent defiance of international treaties and conventions: one cannot apply the limits and terms of humane treatment in war if one cannot locate a victim or discern that victim's fate. Additionally, it lessened Grönlanders' moral qualms about the Nazi regime, as well as their desire to speak out against it, by keeping the general public ignorant of the regime's malfeasance and by creating extreme pressure for service members to remain silent. Combined with the already restricted immigration process, the decree effectively made Protektoratet Grönland into a state with a single belief, all citizens walking forward in one directly. With the consolidation of power complete, it was time to make Grönland a military power. Along with the National Defense Guard, old Greenland naval and air units were reorganized, with old equipment being discarded. A slimmed down force would help Grönland sharpen its swords as it prepares to expand its influence. A message was sent to Hudson Bay Federation, Faraway, and American Commonwealth.
  16. "The hypocrisy that this so-called apology embodies is noted." - Bjarni Benediktsson, President of Protektoratet Grönland
  17. Didn't we have suggestions like this over the past years? Better late than never, still. Personally, I say we cap it at 500 kiloton per IG nuke, and 1 megaton per IG nuke if one has Weapons Research Complex. In addition, limit the number of total RP nukes possible to 125 nukes.
  18. Despite the conflict which exploded in eastern Europe, Minister of Foreign and American Affairs Charlotte Dunois was on her way to Athens. For better or for worst Athens was an American nation, having New Orleans and parts of the Caribbean. In addition, there was the possible issue of Greenland itself, given that one of Athens's allies seemed to have their eyes on it. It was in the interest of Quebec to maintain at least a neutral position with the Federation, and if possible, take a place as the Northeastern American ally. It was a tall order, but perhaps not too impossible.
  19. Légalisation du Cannabis A new political party has been officially registered. The Bloc Pot is dedicated to ending cannabis prohibition. Under the draconian Drugs Regulation Act, all forms of recreational drugs with the exception of tobacco and alcohol are strictly banned, with violations receiving a minimum of three years in jail. The Bloc Pot is dedicated to overturning the DRA. Apart from this one issue, the party has no other official policies, meaning party candidates are able to express their personal views on all other political issues freely. Party leader Hugô St-Onge believes that the Bloc Pot will be able to enter the National Assembly in the next election. Given the conservative nature of the people of Quebec, it is unlikely that the Bloc Pot will succeed in its goal. However, it is expected that they will be providing some entertainment in the PDQ-dominated world of Quebec politics.
  20. I have to admit, the color change isn't that bad.
  21. Quebec looked silently at the conflict, mainly to avoid shedding more blood than was what was flowing. Given the massive firepower the nation, it would simply wipe out the rebellion, but out of consideration for its ally, it will only intervene should external forces become involved.
  22. Sorry if I sound skeptical, but after all the times reforms have been shot down, I don't see this succeeding that easily. Still, if a proposal can be made, I'll look into it.
