    Congrats to the winners
  2. To: Sileath From: Mary the Fantabulous Date: 6/12/2009 12:06:46 AM Subject: Battle Report Message: You have been attacked by Mary the Fantabulous. You lost 1,071 soldiers and 125 tanks. You killed 306 soldiers and 6 tanks. Their forces razed 3.989 miles of your land, destroyed 1.186 technology, and destroyed 10.838 infrastructure. Their forces destroyed $0.00 of your money and you gained $282,347.73 in your enemy's abandoned equipment. In the end the battle was a Victory. Any existing peace offers that were on the table have been automatically canceled. I lose land, tech, and infra even though I won the battle and some cash? Is this common? I've never had this happen before.
  3. I agree with the first two points. On the third point, certain words carry certain connotations. If you look at my forum profile, you will see that I'm white and Irish. You could call me a cracker and a mick and anything else relating to that and I won't be offended by it. However, if I was black, certain slurs would likely offend me coming from certain people because of the hateful nature of what is being said. It also depends on the context. If someone said to me, "Cracker you so crazy!" then I would perceive that far differently than someone saying "All crackers should die." However, if I was banned from a channel and said, "You only banned me because I'm white," then I brought "OOCness" into the conversation and exposed a feature of myself, and the other person has the ability to attempt to exploit that weakness for their own gain. Proposal: Do not expose features of yourself if you are not comfortable with people commenting and possibly criticizing those features.
  4. Because of my own personal history, I am a very staunch opponent of blackballing people when they leave/get kicked out of alliances. I support second/third chances, etc. The only time when I have ever said to another alliance that they should consider not accepting anyone is when Schills was kicked out of NSO and I told The Galactic Republic that they really would be better off not accepting him. I think that should sum up my opinion of Schills.
  5. Glad this finally happened, I pushed for this for a long time when I was in NSO.
  6. Sorry again about the confusion. In the first section, I am describing how a history class would be set up like a nation. In the second section, I am describing how a school would be set up like an alliance.
  7. Your signature! I was an electrician in the Navy :)

My love for you grows with each passing day.

  8. Updated. Just need Lumber/Gold.
  9. When I am Emperor, this will not happen.
  10. I would love to see these documents, if you would be so gracious as to provide them.
  11. Congratulations to our MK allies on this. Electron Sponge
  12. I intend on using the NSO challenge system to keep the Councils accountable. It will be similar to how Master Marauders can only be challenged by Marauders.. a Chairman of a Council can be challenged by a Councilor, and a Councilor can be challenged by any member of their socioeconomic class who is endorsed by 10% of that class. In a challenge, the socioeconomic class will be summoned to the auditorium, where the challenged and the challenger will debate the performance of the challenged, the promises and potential of the challenger, and answer questions from myself and Privy Council. One of the questions that will always be asked is, "Does a government function better when its internal groups operate in a spirit of cooperation or a spirit of competition?" I will personally adjudicate the victor, on advice from Privy Council, the uninvolved members of the challenged Council, and the reactions of the audience.
  13. Sorry this wasn't clear in the OP. In the first section, I am talking about teaching. When I talk about being Emperor, I am referring to being the school principal.
  14. Donating blood could save lives and improves society. A good citizen is one who cares about improving society. If a student is behaving like a good citizen, I will reward that. With people becoming naturalized citizens - I don't care if it's not fair. Life isn't fair. Same with the tax rates - what if the government implement progressive tax rates and those with higher scores on exams pay more taxes? Well, that's life. If you want to change it, topple the government or run for office yourself.
  15. At my high school, we had four periods of 85 minutes each, and two semesters per year.
  16. I play CN for the same reason I used to smoke weed - to think on different planes of reality and better understand society. The "high" associated with both is just a bonus. When I teach high school history, every week will be organized the same. Monday: Lecture (themes) - Diffusion assigned Tuesday: Lecture (details) - Diffusion turned in, Effort assigned Wednesday: Competition - Effort turned in, Citizenship assessed Thursday: Exam - Ability turned in Friday: Exam review/Humanities/Exam Failure Interviews - Ability returned There will be 100 points possible to be earned per week. Diffusion: 20 Effort: 20 Citizenship: 20 Ability: 20 Jump: 20 Diffusion is the capacity to effectively communicate ideas. Every Monday, students will handwrite a paper concerning the theme presented that day. There is no minimum length, with a maximum length of one page. Brevity is a good skill, as is penmanship. I will not accept any typed assignments throughout the entire course. Points will be assessed based on the relevance of the idea presented and how effectively they were communicated. Effort is the dedication to do the legwork necessary to complete larger tasks. Every Tuesday, students will complete a handout of questions (number of questions is variable to government performance) to be turned in the next day. Citizenship is the balance between competition and cooperation, and how the student maintains that balance during a stressful situation. Competitions will be held each Wednesday (game show format) covering the material of the previous two days, and will be structured so complex tactics can be developed by the players to achieve their goals. Ability is the function of the mind's capacity to learn and to translate what it has learned into high performance. Each Thursday, there will be an exam, most often consisting of 5-8 questions to be answered in essay format. Jump is the measure of the instructor's professional satisfaction, variable to the effect on it which each student has. Every Friday, assuming the class has done well on the previous day's exam, topics outside of the normal scope of the curriculum will be covered. Topics can include psychology, philosophy, principles of electricity, binary math and Boolean algebra, aspects of drug use, astronomy, and political theory. Jump points will be awarded based on the student's ability to teach their instructor something new, and general contribution to the emergent knowledge procurement of the class. This will all be very difficult to implement. Complicating matters, I am quite lazy. Therefore, students will form into a government in order to manage their societal goals. The first Thursday of the school year, students will take the Citizenship Exam, which will contain provisions of the syllabus and government structure. Upon becoming citizens, students become subject to national law and tax rates. Elections will be every two weeks. On the week of an election, a reasonable (at least 16) score on the Diffusion assignment is the qualification to run for office. A reasonable (at least 16) score on the Effort assignment is the qualification for suffrage for that election. I do not work for free. I must be paid for my services to the society - my salary will be dependent on the most recent Citizenship score of the society. Perhaps one week I will assess that I am owed 100 points for services rendered. The government must come up with a way to pay me, else I will seize their assets to pay the national deficit. The government will need to write a tax code to fill the national treasury so I can be paid. The only taxable income will be Ability points. Diffusion, Effort, Citizenship, and Jump points are not taxable income. I will use the Citizenship and Effort scores to determine the citizen's faith in the government and the Ability to score to determine my own faith in the government. As long as my own faith in the government is high, I will give them significant autonomy to implement various tax schemes, maintain internal discipline, and have input in the lesson plans and student workloads. I look forward to one of the governments eventually deciding to go Communist, and taxing 100% of Ability points to redistribute them equally among all students - or perhaps keeping a little bit extra for the politburo. If the government loses the confidence of the people in its rule, a revolutionary movement may emerge, and if the government cannot quell the dissent, the society will be thrust into a state of Anarchy for no less than one full week. During that week, the citizens will be horrendously oppressed by me, with enormous workloads and incredibly difficult exams. At the end of the week, (regardless of whether the overthrown government was democratic or totalitarian) all citizens will vote on a new leader, who will form a government. The class will be intentionally tilted towards the advanced side of material for several reasons. 1. Treat people like idiots and they act like idiots 2. If I had to cover the same stupid $@! material that my high school history teachers did (does everyone know how many Senators each state has?) I would go nuts 3. Every single student is expected to take the AP exams in World History and US History. If, like in my high school, there is no separate AP class for those subjects, then the normal course will become the de facto AP class. Out of 250 or so students in my senior class, I was the only one to take the AP US History exam, and that's substandard. 4. The goal of education is not to make students as smart as the instructions, but to make them smarter. Due to the natural forces of evolution, anyone younger than me is smarter than I was at that age, and when they get to being my age, will be smarter than I am now. They can handle the advanced material. 5. Haven't you ever seen Stand and Deliver? Extra credit will be abundant. In my perception, extra credit represents the student's internal synthesis of the material presented and subsequent action to represent their reaction to having been enlightened on the new ideas. Sample extra credit: Write a letter to a respectable newspaper - 5 points Have a letter published in a respectable newspaper - 20 points Donate blood - 15 points Become a naturalized US citizen - 50 points Register to vote - 10 points Vote - 10 points Work at an election site - 25 points Attend a city council meeting - 10 points Attend a school board meeting - 10 points Win an academic competition - Variable The main things I want to impart on the students are represented by the midterm and final exams of my class, which are presented here in their entirety. Midterm: What constitutes a good society? Final: What does it mean to be a citizen? --------- Perhaps after time I will look for further professional fulfillment. I will look to become the Emperor. As the Emperor of the empire, I will recognize the citizenry and nobility as such: Students, the citizens of my empire, are divided into socioeconomic classes. Freshmen - paupers Sophomores - merchant middle class Juniors - bourgeoisie Seniors - upper class The various classes will elect representatives, who will also accomplish empire goals. Paupers - Council for Cultural Diffusion Merchant Middle Class - Council for Peace and Trade Bourgeoisie - Council for Internal Affairs Upper Class - Council for War and Economic Development Council for Cultural Diffusion - this Council, lead by a Chairman and served upon by two Councilors like all Councils, will oversee the cultural development and community relations of the empire. They will encourage their constituents to involve themselves in theater, art, and music, as well as coordinate volunteer projects for the empire to better build relations with the community. Council for Peace and Trade - this Council oversees the Diplomatic Corps (athletics) and the Commerce Department, and will work with community leaders, such as the Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, to procure supplies and investments. This Council also works with foreign empires to share materials and expenses whenever possible. Council for Internal Affairs - this Council oversees the Media, Recruitment, Security, and Academy divisions. With the Academy, it is very important for the nobility to recognize that they do not know more than the citizenry concerning every subject, and having citizen instructors on different subjects will bring their personal expertise to the empire and impart their knowledge on the nobility. Council for War and Economic Development - this Council oversees the military (academic competition teams) and the Imperial Bank. Internal economic development is key - all students must be able to take at least 3 AP exams per year free of charge as well as have a steady supply of fresh healthy food made available to facilitate nourishment per Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The nobility will be divided into several classes. The social class structure is such: Emperor Regent Imperial Officer of Foreign Affairs/Chancellor/Polemarch/Minister of Finance/Eminence grise Dauphins Dukes Prime Minister Barons Counts Citizens Emperor - sovereign of the empire, answers to the Archon eponymous (town mayor) the Archon basileus (school district superintendent) and the Elder Council (school board). Regent - second of command of the empire, generally a school Counselor. Imperial Officer of Foreign Affairs - Athletic director, responsible for the training of the Diplomatic Corps and the image of the empire which is projected through the rest of the land. Chancellor - head of Internal Affairs, coordinates recruitment, media projects, and the school security force. Provides the resources necessary for the Council for Internal Affairs to run the Academy. Polemarch - head of the Imperial Military. Personally oversees the training of the Barristers Guild (Mock Trial), the Grange (Future Farmers of America), the Bilderberg Group (Future Business Leaders of America), the Imperial Corps of Engineers (Science Olympiad) and the Praetorian Guard (Academic Decathlon). Minister of Finance - head of the Imperial Bank, works with the Council for War and Economic Development on sustainable growth and revenue streams. Prepares budget reports so the Emperor doesn't have to. Eminence Grise - teacher with the highest cumulative AP scores from the previous year in their subject. Is the ranking nobility member of Privy Council and is sovereign over all teachers. Dauphins - Counselors not holding another positions. Considered higher ranking than other nobility, with oversight authority. Dukes - Nobility who sit on Privy Council. Prime Minister - The citizen chairman of Privy Council. Barons - department heads. Counts - teachers who are not department heads. Citizens - students. Privy Council is a highly influential group comprised of the six members of the upper class who had the highest combined AP scores from the tests taken as bourgeoisie and the five members of the nobility who had the highest combined scores of AP test passing in their subject of teaching. The citizen who received the highest combined AP score is ascended to Prime Minister, and considered the sovereign of the entire student body. The Prime Minister is the Chairman of Privy Council and has social ranking above all teachers not on Privy Council. The Counts/Barons who are selected for Privy Council are ascended to Dukes. All academic mandates from the state/county/district, new textbooks, lesson plans, or anything else academic-related will go to Privy Council for debate and to formulate a recommendation for the Emperor. Edit: Added explanation of Eminence Grise
  17. Male/22-25/West (US)/Bisexual/Atheist/Unmarried + College I'm a big fan of you having Humanist as a religious choice. Not a fan of you not having Hellenic Polytheism as a religious choice.
  18. Sorry, the wildcard's taken.
  19. I endorse Spock, Mogar, and Sorum.
  20. It's been said many times that TheNeverender is one of the main spokespeople of Karma, as opposed to a sovereign. Concerning the Karma POWs - I believe Liquid Mercury already covered that. If someone was a POW, they are released. If they left too early, they will be punished.
  21. I'm Spartacus! Perhaps through the diffusion of responsibility, Karma was setting up how the post-Hegemony world would run. There is no "Head Global Despot," as neither TheNeverender, Liquid Mercury, nor any other Karma leader will be dictating macroglobal policies to their puppet allies. That way of doing business it over. The alliances involved in Karma use reason, communication, and cooperation to accomplish goals and settle misunderstandings. Just because Karma doesn't have a figurehead Emperor doesn't mean that Karma lacks leadership. Perhaps leadership has been missing from (what were) the top alliances for so long, that you have forgotten what it looked like? Note: "Puppet allies" does not refer to TPF in the least. o/ TPF

  23. It has become serious when he has attacked small Spartan nations in order to further his lulz. He can laugh his way down to ZI, if that's what Sparta decides to do with him.
  24. I was in #athens when George said that, so I understand the context. If you wanted a quick/sensible/non-psychotic resolution to this, you shouldn't have made this thread, you shouldn't have declared an alliance war with Sparta, and you shouldn't have wasted their time in those ridiculous IRC "negotiations." In case you were unaware, Sparta has a lot of other responsibilities to uphold, like its war with New Pacific Order, and frankly I don't think they have time to $%&@ around with you when you're not taking this seriously in the least. You had multiple chances to end this, but you're having fun on your ego trip. Cool, have your fun - but don't expect outrage from many people when Sparta doesn't bend over backwards in order to pander to your every whim.
