1.
There's no hard correlation between leaders and nation sizes that one can really point out. Leaders are almost always mechanically sound but may or may not care about nation building like others. This doesn't necessarily detract from their ability to drive to lead their alliance from an organization and decision making standpoint.
I did have one point I wanted to make about this subject. Granted, a leader's management skills and personality have nothing to do with how they run their nation. However, in a game like this, I would be hard pressed to go to war for a leader and sacrifice my painstaking efforts building my pixels to have them destroyed for a leader who isn't willing to do the same. Being a leader, I wouldn't feel right asking my nations to stand on the battlefield while I sit back and eat popcorn because I didn't bother preparing my own nation.
  2.
Many leaders have high NS nations because they've been around for a while (really, it's people 3 years + old that still run the cyberverse. You see very few "new" leaders.)
We're out here, but building an alliance from the ground up without the benefit of mergers is a lot tougher than it used to be. Maybe in 3 years we'll be the ones leading the cyberverse.
  3. Bump for updated opening post.
  4. Excellent protectors. Well done. Cheers to a prosperous future. o7
  5. Absolutely impressive. So much can happen to turn the tides over the course of five years. To still be together and strong is a magnificent feat. Cheers!
  6.
Does an alliance need to have 20 or more members before making it onto that list?
My understanding is that they do. Being the leader of a micro, I've been around long enough to agree that people do it for different reasons, as has already been stated. For me, it's not about the title. It is about the control, to an extent. I have a vision of what I want in an alliance and I enjoy having the flexibility to shape it that way. I also enjoy the challenges it presents, as well as the opportunity to form bonds with a small group and grow from there. I realize that we'll never be important, on the global scale, outside of our own walls unless we do some serious work and grow our numbers so that we can interact and put ourselves in position to exert an influence in various arenas of the political landscape. I'm good with that. I spent my time alliance hopping for about a year, looking for this perfect alliance full of activity, opportunity, and never a dull moment. It doesn't exist. I don't care who you are or what alliance you belong to. I think some people expect too much from an alliance. There's only so much one can provide given the game it's based on. There are those more active and entertaining than others, but you've just got to decide what you want out of your experience, what you want to put into it, and find the alliance that gives you the best shot at achieving your goals.
  7.
I really enjoyed the triple spoiler effect.
8. Of more interest to me is the alliances that exist which we've never heard of. There are those who form their groups, apparently have no protectorate, and have never made any sort of declaration in the OWF. The ones below may not all fit in that category, but I don't recall having heard from any of them. Radix Omnium Malorum Avaritia Metamorphosis Union Of Communist Republics The Blood Brothers Supreme Confederacy Of Resolute Nations Flying Hellfish United THE SOUTHERN UNION State Of Unified Nations Is anyone familiar with any of these?
  9. New. Fresh. Military focused. UNSC. Stop in and check us out.
  10. Several members just received their 2 month anniversary ribbon, while 4 others were promoted in rank from Private to PFC. Congrats to all! Still looking for an alliance? Join the UNSC!
  11. Andover, you're basing a lot on one member you picked up who, for whatever reasons, decided they wanted to become active with your alliance. Pot has gone out of his way to kindly explain his motivation. It was his choice, and a justified one at that, to disband it without prior notice. Now it's just become a pissing contest to see who gets the last word. YOu have your point of view. He has his. I have mine. Everyone else who's posted has theirs. Isn't that the way the OWF works? Everyone's stated their opinion and we can at least agree to disagree. End of line.
  12. We just painted the walls at headquarters. Stop in and smell the fumes.
  13. Do they still have this Bat Guano available? I'd like to order some.
  14. Congrats, ODN. I'll always love you.

  16. Two years already. Amazing. I know you to be the most honorable group I've ever encountered and Randalla, someone I consider one of my truest friends. Congratulations to you and keep it going!
  17. The new year is upon us and we, at the UNSC, are ready to jump in "feet first". We've had the opportunity to enjoy the holidays, relax a bit, and even managed to get a little bit done within the UNSC. Admittedly, we were mostly drinking, sleeping, and partying. Yeah...we know how to have a good time. Even with that, we got ourselves a new wiki, increased our score by .25, our average NS by 58k, gained 4 members, 8 nukes, and a partridge in a pear tree. We understand that these statistics aren't all that impressive to the casual observer. Stay tuned...it's a brand new year, baby! January 4th will mark 2 months of our existence on Digiterra. In that time, we've created a foundation for success. I would personally like to thank Force Colonel Henry Rollins for his amazing work with the Training Facility, as well as his loyalty and dedication to helping others achieve new heights in their respective Divisions. The UNSC would not be nearly as impressive as it is today, without him. On behalf of the UNSC, I would like to welcome our newest Marines. Matt Bowen, titodafarmer, and djsaix have proven themselves worthy of the title. Another newcomer, Etnie, is currently in our training program. As promised in the last edition, we're ready to kick off the new year with our calendar of events that we have lined up for members and guests. Here we go.... January 5th - 29th will mark our first recruitment drive. The overall goal is modest this month, aiming at a total of 20 new members. The winner, being the person with the most recruits, will receive 250 merit and $6 million + 50 tech to boost their nation. The winner will be announced right here, in the February edition of PRESSCORPS. We're hoping for a competitive race and some quality recruits. New recruits must complete BASIC in order to qualify as a legitimate recruit. January 1st - 15th, we are holding a signature contest. This contest is open to the public! Rules are as follows:

Entries must be submitted in the Graphix section of the Halodeck.
Those wishing to participate must register on our forums in order to gain access
Signatures must be a UNSC themed sig at 450 x 150 px
Signatures must be generic...no specific member names
Limit 2 entries per person
Winner receives $3 million -or- 50 tech. Their choice.
Winner will be announced in the February edition of PRESSCORPS
We encourage you to drop by and submit your entries. Good luck to everyone! ___________________________________________________________________________ UNSC celebrates it's two month anniversary in 3 days. Several of our members are approaching their 2 month anniversary with the UNSC, including 3 that have been there from day one. All total, 8 of our Marines will receive the 2 month service commendation ribbon this month. January 4th, 2011 General Zhaan Force Colonel Shadix Force Colonel Octavion January 5th, 2011 Major General Semperfidelist Force Colonel Henry Rollins January 7th, 2011 PFC Newborn1000 Colonel Gamma Emeritus January 8th, 2011 PFC The Jester Race Congratulations, and thank you for your dedication. Two months may not seem noteworthy to some, but in a world of waivering politics and fickle people, we find this level of commitment honorable. I look forward to awarding these fine Marines with a star attachment for their ribbons on their 4 month anniversary. o7 Before they could become Marines, each recruit had to graduate from BASIC. This is our entry level training program, which introduces new recruits to the UNSC and covers basic knowledge of CN. Each of our members now proudly wear the Level One Training Commendation Ribbon. Congrats to all. Finally, we honor Major General Semperfidelist and Force Colonel Octavion, for their support of the UNSC through generous donations to help other Marines grow their nations. Both have earned the Level Two Samaritan Ribbon, awarded for contributions of $15 million +. ___________________________________________________________________________ This week saw the end of not only 2010, but one of our closest allies...the University of Unity. UoU, a merger between The University and Unity, was founded on Nov 7th, 2010; just three days after UNSC. Initially, they seemed to be a promising alliance. Originally led by Kevanovia, UoU underwent a change in leadership not long ago, with Kev stepping down, citing real life commitments interfering with his ability to continue leading the alliance. Shadeslayers09 assumed the helm for a short time, but what took place next is not entirely clear. During the final week of December, Shades was away on vacation. During this time, Kevanovia allegedly formed a plan to merge UoU with the UPN and abruptly disbanded the UoU as an alliance. Kevanovia is now a Triumvirate in the reformed UPN system, while Shades has joined The New Guy. As for the remainder of the University, sources report that an alliance vote was not taken on the decision, although they are under the protection of UPN. The UNSC has always considered Kevanovia a good friend, and we wish him well in his new venture...although we're interested to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the events that took place. [i]PRESSCORPS is a humble publication issued by the UNSC. We have no delusions as to our capabilities. We hope to expand our World News section in the future, but for now will focus primarily on world news as it relates to or affects the UNSC. For a broader spectrum of news and creative writing, check out PNN, the Tabloid Tribune, and other publications from seasoned writers with the most in-depth knowledge of Planet Bob.
