Moderation Team Blog

Welcome to the first entry in the moderation team blog!

This blog will be used for announcements and other topics between moderation and the forum members.

There are some exciting things being done with the moderation team and we look forward to sharing those with all of you.

There is a review of the current moderation structure taking place and the new structure will be announced within weeks. Along with the restructuring, there will be the need for new graphics made for the images for each moderation rank. There will be a contest announced in the Open World Forum about this contest and the chance to win a prize for the best images that is chosen from among all of the entries submitted.

Other changes that have taken place include the changing of the moderation reporting area to being made where only the players reporting and the moderation staff can see each player's individual report. This change was necessary to encourage

those who report things not to feel like they are harassed by other players for reporting possible violations, but also it will curb the desire of yet others who choose to report things out of a motivation to try to take out political opponents or even just to curb players that report things for the sake of the attention.

We are here to help maintain a civil playing field yet encourage an atmosphere that will allow players to enjoy the game in their roles as nation leaders, alliance leaders and members.

If there are any ways in which we can improve the forum experience please feel free to post in the Moderation Forum and those entries that are of merit will be approved for discussion.

If you need anything feel free to message me or any moderation staff.

How do you choose who is given an invitation to join the mod team? I would personally accuse the recent appointments to be politically motivated and would like to request senior mod staff look at them.

They send out a block of chocolate to each CN player, and put golden tickets inside a small number of them. If you get a golden ticket, you become a moderator. It's simple!

Moderation invitation are given based upon nominations from all moderators to senior staff for forum users who have a good posting history of following the rules (minor warn violations are not held against them), posting history time frame and in-game history as far as following the rules.

All nominations in recent memory, including the most recent, none of the moderation nominated people from their own alliance or sphere of political friends. Senior Staff tries to ensure that nominations are diverse and represent a cross-section of the forum/game. After nominations then there is discussion between Senior Staff and decisions made from there.

The mixture of moderators right now is representative of the game, including the most recent victims additions.

I hope that answers your question.

What kind of prize are you thinking of for the contest? I think something unique like the winner getting to create a forum pip for their own use or a custom gov type in-game would be better than in-game stats; even if the gov type just replaces a current one for the user & has the same bonuses.

As for the negative/positive rating of posts, I think a lot of people would rate posts down based on who's posting & rate down political opponents regardless of the quality of the post. Adding a feature to click like for a post could maybe be interesting, but I don't see a big need for it.

What I would like is when blocking a user, having an extra option so you don't even see "This post is hidden because you have chosen to ignore posts by "Blocked User". View it anyway?" would be nice. So when you read a thread you can't see they've even posted in the thread unless someone quotes them; completely filtering them out except if their post is the OP for an announcement. Then if you do decide you want to see what they've said, you can adjust your options.

Interesting suggestions, will put them up for consideration. Right now the prize is 3 Donations of $30.

I can see your position on that and those are some of the cons I view as well of turning that feature on.

Hell yeah this would be awesome. However, unless it's available as an add-on mod for the IPS Forums, it's just a pipe dream.
