Ever since Jake had been promoted to Rear Admiral he had been under a large amount of stress. He had been one of the few naval officers to defect from The Commonwealth. For that he had been given a lot of scrutiny from the other officers. It might have been the fact that he was only 38. Jake didn't really give much thought to it. There were more important things, such as running a navy. Although it's not like becoming an admiral didn't come with loads of perks. He could tell just about anyone what to do, there was a cabin in his ship just for him. Did we mention the fact that he was given a brand new, top of the line Halycon-Class Frigate! He had it all. One day though, a call came in to the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). About a plea for help from the Island of Vancouver in Canada. War between the ever so war hungry Canadian Clans had started. The people of Victoria and Vancouver were caught directly in the crossfire. That's where Cascadia comes in. We are the closet power to them. They asked for help and we will give it. The choice was given to Jake. Would he take the fleet to Vancouver and assist the civilians while fifth corp was established. He quickly answered, "I'm on my way."

OFFICIAL DECLARATION

Concerning Cascadian Actions in Columbia

THE COMMONWEALTH OF CASCADIA, is in direct violation of an official Alaskan declaration, naming Yukon and British Columbia as unincorporated territories of the Crown and Ecclesiarchy of Alaska. As such we consider the actions of the Cascadian military to be a direct violation of our sovereignty. We demand that the Cascadian military withdraw from British Columbia. A refusal to do so will lead to Cascadian military personnel being removed from the region by force.

Violation of your sovereignty? There were no Alaskan troops in Vancouver Island or Southern British Columbia at the time of our annexation of the region. All we know is your are fighting an aggressive war against the Canadian people. How can we believe they would like to become apart of the Alaskan Government. When they are consistently uncooperative yet they cry to us for help. As such we answered their cry. The people of the Island of Vancouver as well as the people of Southern British Columbia have chosen to ask us for help against aggressors throughout Canada. We are willing to split British Columbia, like our ancestors hundreds of years ago. Also, we would like you to know that as Southern British Columbia and Vancouver Island are apart of the Kingdom of Cascadia, you are invading our territory and we implore you to leave peacefully.

King of Cascadia, Alan Wymore

Unlike Cascadia, our troops currently are in Columbia, this is not an abstract claim to the land, we physically occupy it. We are happy to be patient with the Cascadian withdrawal, but any further advances into British Columbia will be met with bombs.” - Michael Ainsworth, Advisor to the King, Interim Head of Government.

CLASSIFIED

A twelve aircraft squadron of new CAS-4 strike fighters has been transferred to Kamloops airport where a temporary base will be established. Due to the ruinous roads and disused rail lines, munitions will have to be flown in - an extremely inefficient use of transport aircraft. Along with munitions and heavy weapons (such as anti-tanks and anti-air missiles, and heavy mortars), reinforcements will be flown in to Kamloops by hired civilian aircraft. Alaskan strength in Southern BC will reach three infantry battalions within thirty hours.

There is no centralised government authority in Columbia, no government authority at all in many of the remote regions. Combined with disused transport routes, it would take well over a year to organise a vote of such magnitude. We are not willing to place our security in such a precarious position for so long. We once again demand that you withdraw.” - Michael Ainsworth, Advisor to the King, Interim Head of Government.

The Imperium of Babylon requests that both sides sit down to discuss the issue at hand before it spirals out of control. Fort Terra in Cascadia is available to host such a meeting in a safe and neutral environment provided by the Imperial military.

Classified

The military at Fort Terra and Naval Base Prima were placed on a heighted alert status.

CVBG Grey Wolves was put to sea to remove its vunerability of being at anchor in port.

"The Principality of Tikal advises Cascadia to back down from trying to police the Ecclesiarchy. Alaska has established its control of the territories for a long enough time for rebel movements to spring up, were the people inclined to do so. Considering no such thing has happened, the Principality would assume that all is well in Columbia and Yukon.

"We do not wish for war to occur and so request for Cascadia to let Alaska deal with any problems up north."

Jake sighed as he scrolled through his tablet. Multiple warnings were coming in from Alaska telling him to turn the fleet around, but he had his orders. Besides it was unincorporated, he decided it was time to take action. he stood up quickly and called attention from the rest of the bridge. "Turn off all electronic equipment that they could track! Turn the engines to half power! Bring us to a half a mile off the coast! Lieutenant Murphy tell the rest of the fleet to do the same! We will communicate through short wave radios! Tell the Mako to prepare her Gestapo forces for landing!" He commanded as quick as he could. They were only a mile and a half from the town of Sooke. They were going to use this as a staging point for the rest of the annexation. He looked over and watched as the Mako sped ahead of the rest of the fleet and got into position. Activity on the deck of the ship swelled as the Gestapo soldiers prepared their arms and munitions. The small UH-60 on the landing pad swirled its rotors ready to deliver an insertion team to cut off communication from the town. All they needed was the order to go.

Alaskan troops in Columbia now numbered a complete twenty-thousand man infantry brigade, together with it’s support units, such as artillery and anti-aircraft weapons. Already, two battalions had moved into Vancouver and occupied the city and fortified their position. Other units had secured the mountains north of the city and the town of Abbotsford and Sumas Peak to the west. The Air Forces was currently flying in SSM-15-2 missiles and their truck launchers. They would be positioned in Vancouver to prevent the Cascadians attacking the city from sea, or moving their ships up the Strait of Georgia. With the first reconnaissance drones still on the assembly line, the gap in aerial reconnaissance was made up for by civilian light aircraft. They would fly patrols around Vancouver island, intent on locating the Cascadian forces.

The UH-60 took off as around a hundred Gestapo soldiers launched off the CNS Mako and made towards the town of sooke. Four LAV-25s launched alongside the soldiers to help get them to shore quicker. The helicopter made it's way to the towns government building where the insertion team was able to quickly capture most government officials, although capture isn't a good word to use since they gladly let the Gestapo take over the city. The soldiers made their way on shore and spread through the city letting the citizens know they were in charge. All of the citizens graciously accepted the Cascadian liberators, giving them quickly baked cookies an brownies. The four LAV-25s were move under covered areas to avoid detection. The UH-60 took back off and flew back to the Mako where it landed and shut off it's engines. Eventually the entire town would return to normal without it looking like anything had changed.

Jake watched as the Gestapo forces made their way ashore. They quickly and subtly captured the town the of Sooke. "Come on their planes are getting closer. We can't let them find the Gestapo forces yet." He said calmly as he picked up a shirt we radio. "All ships move towards the straight of Juan De Fuca, we can't let them get caught. Ready all weapons, we are in for a fight." He ordered. The CNS Portland swung around and headed inland towards the San Juan Islands.

As soon as the light aircraft spotted the Cascadian fleet in the strait and their position noted, an order would be sent to the ground attack squadron stationed in Kamloops. Five CAS-4 strike aircraft would take off, armed with three ASM-105 anti-ship missiles and two AIM-132 missiles for self defence. One CAS-4s would launch its missiles at the frigate while the others would launch their missile at the corvettes - mainly to keep their CIWS occupied and stop them shooting down the missiles destined for the frigate. Exhausting their missiles, the CAS-4s would break off and return to Kamloops - assuming they weren’t shot down that it is.

Meanwhile in Anchorage...

Alaska’s three Priest Class frigates would depart from Anchorage harbour where they had been undergoing crew familiarity exercises and make their way south to Vancouver island. Brand new, the ships would be sent to secure the swiftsure bank, preventing the Cascadian fleet from escaping and forcing them to remain in the strait or retreat into the Puget Sound. They also had the option of going north through the Strait of Georgia and run the risk of being hit by land based anti-ship missiles.

CVBG Grey Wolves had been at sea for a while now, watching the situation escalate into what was now open warfare.

One the three Alaskan frigates passed into range of the fleets long range weaponry. The fleets SSN's had detected the ships on its thales Sonar 2076 and the fleets air arm picked the vessels up with the AWAC's.

Using this data, the fleets three battleships would launch a mixed volly of BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles, and RGM-84 Harpoon block III sea skimming, supersonic anti ship missiles. Each battleship launched four of each weapon, eight missiles assigned to each frigate.

The carrier deployed a single squadron of F-35's to provide a combat air patrol as the rest of the fleet altered its formation into an aggressive posture to sail northwards.

Satellite data and HUMINT data gleaned from ground forces in Cascadia began to paint a blurry picture of Alaskan deployments and preperations were put in place to provide heavy fire support for Cascadian forces.

One squadron of F-14D++'s were put into the air and ordered to Vancouver island to provide air superiority. Using AIM-54 long range missiles, they would eliminate any Alaskan air units in Vancouver from a safe distance and eighty miles before returning to base to refuel and re-arm whilst the second squadron was rotated into the air to provide a C.A.P to the north near the border.

At Fort Terra, the 7th Corps was finally ready to move out in force to support Cascadia operations to the North.

A private message was sent to Cascadia.

'We got your back'

In the north Pacific...

The Priest Class frigates would detect the missiles incoming at quite a long range. Having trained extensively for similar situations, the captains and crew knew exactly how to respond. The ship's Crotale CN2 CIWS would swing into action. Each ship had one system and each system carried eight missiles (before needing to be reloaded), by pure chance the very number of missiles that had been fired at them. The fastest traveling missiles - the harpoons - would be the first targets. Each harpoon would have one missile fired at it, if it wasn't destroyed by the first, a second would be fired. All but one harpoon was destroyed this way. The leftover missiles would then be fired at the slower subsonic tomahawks. Three tomahawks survived the barrage, largely because most of the Crotale missiles had been expended. The tomahawks that survived came under fire from the ships main 100mm cannons and 20mm F2 autocannons. Two more were destroyed by the fast firing autocannons and keen aim of the crewmen. Finally, at five kilometre out, the ships launched chaff and IR decoys to blind or confuse the inbound cruise missiles. The final tomahawk was confused by the chaff and altered its course to intercept the decoys. Unfortunately for the ship in the harpoons sights, it’s crewmen delayed and the chaff was deployed too late. The harpoon struck the ship's stern, tearing a great ugly hole in the upper decks and killing two crewmen. The fire caused by the missile was duly dowsed and damage control began. Suffering damage and knowing they were still in range of the Babylonian ships, the frigates would withdraw to New Archangel to meet up with the rest of the fleet and undergo repairs.

At Vancouver...

As the Babylonian F-14Ds flew towards Vancouver they would be fired upon by SAM-104 surface-to-air missiles. Two batteries in southern Alaska had been set up at Vancouver and Kamloops - forming a sort of air defence “bubble” around the area. While they only covered the southern end of Vancouver island, they did provide air defence in a 160km radius of Vancouver and Kamloops airports. The infantry force that had been occupying Vancouver were now on the move again as more troops had moved south. Two battalions made their way south - into Cascadia and would take the towns of Ferndale and Everson, while a third battalion would seize the high ground east of everson - around Sumas Mountain.

OFFICIAL DECLARATION

Recognition of Hostilities

TODAY THE EMPIRE OF BABYLON, attacked three Alaskan ships en route to Vancouver to partake in sovereignty maintenance exercises aimed at the Cascadian Kingdom. One ship was badly damaged and the ships were forced to return to port. Two Alaskan sailors lost their lives. This is an official recognition of hostilities with the Empire of Babylon and the Kingdom of Cascadia. An official state of war exists. All civilian air traffic around the state of Washington and the province of British Columbia is prohibited for the duration of the conflict. We strongly urge civilians living north of Seattle to vacate their homes and head south to avoid being caught in the fighting.

The Brazilian Congress of States hereby issues a condemnation of the unprovoked attacks on the Alaskan navy by the Babylonians, and additionally condemns Cascadia for providing an pretext for Babylonian interference in North American matters. First and foremost among the principles of the Confederacy are sovereignty and the right to self-determination, with both of Alaska's being violated. We sincerely hope that this game of chess does not extend to include others in the Americas, or touch the South American continent. If this situation is not contained and its fire stomped out, the aggressors against Alaskan sovereignty may find themselves levied with trade sanctions by the Confederacy. We urge all parties to seek diplomatic ends to this situation, and to allow cooler heads to prevail, for the benefit of everyone.

The Congress also moved the DEFCON level of the Confederacy from 4 to 3 in light of the conflict. While no attacks were suspected, radar stations across the country would be on alert, and the armed forces would be ready to conduct naval, aerial, or ground sweeps of any potential threats to Brazil picked up by their extensive array of intelligence satellites.

"The Principality of Tikal calls for an immediate ceasefire between all involved parties. We invite all parties to diplomatic talks to end this series of events peacefully and without more casualties than have already occurred. Further, we call upon Cascadia to order their incursion into British Columbia to a stop for the time being and for Alaska to retreat their forces back into British Columbia.

"The Principality will be sending a full Battlefleet into the area to ensure that no further combat occurs. Firing upon our vessels will be seen as act of war, obviously, and result in the extermination of the regional forces who opened fire."

[Classified, SatInt]

The fleet that had originally been called to support Tikalian forces moving into Tenochtitlan and the southern annexed regions was given the command to sail north towards British Columbia at the greatest possible speed.

The following vessels were contained within the fleet.

  • 3 Nimitz carriers
  • 4 Kirov Battlecruisers
  • 4 Ticonderoga Cruisers
  • 4 Wasp AAVs
  • 5 F125 Frigates and an equal number of Type-45 Destroyers
  • 6 Campeche Corvettes (formerly 'Braunschweig')

Others vessels returning from the Asian campaign may be dedicated to the effort, as well, though those would need a little under 2 weeks to return home.

"el Prersidente abhors the fact that Cascadia has invaded another territory of an established country, after it cried foul when we did the same thing. You've become the very thing you detest. The Network has been put at defcon one, because of these actions, el Presidente has decreed that we shall move forces up to the Oregon border once again, we are telling you this because if you do not stop your incursion into Canada, we will move our forces North while you are occupied, and take Oregon. You have your ultimatum. Cease, and desist, or cease to exist." James finished typing his message to the Cascadia government, he stood up smiling, this is just the thing he wanted to happen.

Official Statement

The Empire did not start an unprovoked attack. We are duty obliged to defend Cascadia. We responded with a force appropriate weaponry to deter further Alaskan incursions south and deny their aggressive ground forces naval support. We will continue to uphold our treaty obligations until Alaska withdraws from Cascadia proper and ceases its attacks on Cascadian soil.

In the Pacific

When it was apparent that the Alaskans were withdrawing, the Babylonian warships would return to a defensive formation and not launch a second attack against the frigates.

Vancouver Island

The F-14's would remove themselves from harms way by moving out of range before they got too far into the outer reaches of the SAM batteries. The extreme range allowed the F-14's time to out fly the missles before they caught up. As a back up plan, the F-14's would shift position to Marysville.

The north side of Marysville would be fortfied by the speartip of the corps, comprised of two armoured battalion, two mechanized battalion, and an artillery battalion initially, but as more soldiers reached the city and a forward command and control center was established, the corps would establish artillery kill zones and fields of fire to envelope and destroy any Alaskan forces that approached the city. All bridges over lake washington were destroyed to prevent a flanking action into Seattle itself, and likewise, all bridges south of Maryswille were wired for demolition in the event of a retreat.

The units right at the front would use Everet as its upper central command center, with reinforcements easily within driving distance north and south. A mechanized battalion, was deployed to take and hold Paine Field Airport to act as a forward airbase.

With the threat by the Network issued and troops massing on Oregans borders, a division was deployed southwards to garrison the town of Medford and Grants Pass, the only roads suitible for moving large formations of soldiers into Oregon. The airforce launched a quick sortie southwards and destroyed the bridge at the town of Brookings.

At Sea

As information poured in now from military forces moving into the frontlines, airforce intelligence and further SATINT, Alaskan military deployments were becoming more clear. A large volly of tomahawks fired from the cruisers and battleships, around one hundred missiles all told, would be fired at advance Alaskan forces, focusing on artillery and air defence. The SAM sites on Vancouver island would be targetted for destruction as well. Including artillery and air defences, command and control centers that had been identified would be attacked and radar sites. Every effort was made to minimise casualties, but to cause the maximum disruption to the Alaskan military co-ordination.

A third volly would be launched with the purpose of destroying all bridges leading north from Marysville. Forty of the sixty tomehawks used for this attack would be used to sow destruction amongst the ground forces in Ferndale and Everson.

In Babylon

NetOps would launch a massive cyber attack on the Alaskan military networks. If they breached the networks defences, the ultimate goal would be to disrupt Alaskan military operations. Likewise, they would begin preperations for similar operations against The Network.

Phillipines

The squadron of B-2's would begin the long flight and re-basing to Cascadia for operations there. The airbase in the Phillipines would be dismantled over time and all important stuff would be shipped to Cascadia to be used on the airbase there.

The missile barrages aimed at forces on Vancouver Island would not end up hitting anything, as there were no Alaskan forces in Vancouver Island, but in Vancouver city. Further south, the destruction of the bridges over the Nooksack River killed six Alaskan soldiers and wounded a further fifteen. The advance was delayed as forces in Ferndale had to move south and forces in Everson had to move west in order to ford the river. The Alaskan forces would hold their position on the south side of the Nooksack and prepare entrenched position with machine guns, anti-tank rockets and missiles, and MANPAD anti-air missiles.

The blunder with Vancouver island was a curse and a blessing. The intel officer who set the targets was docked six months pay for wasting munitions and firing weapons at nothing. However, it did prevent a potentially devestating bombing which could of killed hundreds of civilians in Vancouver city if any remained. PR is an equal weapon of war as any firearm or missile. With the message from Alaska indicating a willingness to negotiate all operations were halted with the exception of a division of the 7th Corps remaining in and around Marysville fortifiying the south bank of the river.

A further three divisions would move southwards out of Seattle towards the garrisoned towns already commandeered by the first division deployed southwards. In the time it took for all the motions to take place, the B-2 squadron arrived at its new base.

A message would be sent to the Cascadian Government urging them to enter negotiations for fear of a greater threat elsewhere.

All imperial forces would undertake a defensive posture.

Netops attempt to breach the Alaskan military networks worked to great effect, allowing access to a great many things, however mission parameters were mission parameters, and they were to shut down digital and satellite communications in the Alaskan military. This ranged from computers to satellite phones across the military spectrum, essentially turning off the mouth and ears amking it next to impossible to co-ordinate anything.

An attempt was made to place a bug in the system to moniter information traffic, but it failed.

(OOC: This is all taking place before any ceasefire was offered as I have not yet replied. This is my first actual war post. Don't judge. I'm trying my best.)

The ships saw the Alaskan plans coming from a mile away, literally. They all switch into a defensive formation and started sailing into the Victoria City Harbor. Immediately after the five Alaskan aircraft fired missiles, 2 Cascadian AMM-1 missiles were fired from each corvette for each enemy anti ship missile. The frigate launched SAMs at the few attack aircraft managing to barely destroy one. As the missiles got closer the AMM-1s would destroy just about each ASM except for one which made it through and slammed into the CNS Bends' stern crippling and killing 13 sailors. The damage was severe but not to severe still allowing it to start floating back to the Seattle with the assistance of some quickly procured tugboats.

Reply to Babylonian forces:
Don't take all the fun.

Vancouver Island
The Cascadian Rangers, formally known as Gestapo. Quickly made their way from Sooke down to the outskirts of Victoria. They made their way around the city blocking communication lines. After a quick call to Cascadian high command, civilian communication satellites were blocked. The forces made their way to government buildings and quickly flew the Doug Flag. The rest of the 1st Ranger Battalion made their way over from northern Washington. Cascadian army forces in Victoria number 2,500 special forces, 1 Frigate, and 3 Corvettes.

(OOC: Reply to the ceasefire)

Cascadia is very open and happy for a ceasefire between this ridiculous little skirmish that should have never taken place and we see that mainland British Colombia is very well administered by the Alaskan Government. We have no quarrels with renouncing out claims on mainland British Colombia and we hope there can be a meeting between us, Babylon, and Alaska.
