YES! We come, South Africa!

Do you have what it takes to join the finest military in the world? Heed the call, fight for Transvaal. Our offices in Windhoek are filled with letters from men around the world interested in fighting on the front lines of civilization against the darkness that threatens to envelop Transvaal. If you too are interested in fighting for honor and conscience, heed the call. Recruiting offices in Oslo and Windhoek are currently open to foreign volunteers to fight for the National Front.

The National Front of Transvaal calls you.

Fight for her.

OOC: Recruiting a type of foreign legion of soldiers to fight in the Transvaal civil war. No guarantees the soldiers actually make it to Transvaal, but it may be interesting. Any communist country may find this a convenient way to get rid of those pesky anti-communists (send them to the meatgrinder!) while men in nationalist regimes may find this attractive as well. Post how many men are interested in signing up, whether it be three or three thousand. And no, this doesn't affect your government so don't worry about that either.

With the tightening grip of Operation Anaconda on the ports and coasts of the Eastern, Western, and Northern Capes, and a potential expansion of the blockade to Namibia, volunteers and materials intended for the Nationalist cause would need to be quick, lest they miss the window of opportunity when the noose finally does come down on Namibia.

A diplomatic message was sent to governments around the world by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that people and goods intended for the Nationalist cause would be considered combatants and contraband, respectively, and that their safety was not assured. Furthermore any government which was found to be providing support to the Nationalist cause would be committing an act of aggression against Arctica.

OOC: Given this new development, I think I'll hold off on expanding the blockade to Namibia...lots of potential for different players to RP in this conflict, and more attention to Southern Africa as well.

Around one-hundred experienced NCOs of the Aragon Royal Legion were seperated from service to the King, briefed, and then flown to Windhoek via civilian aircraft. These knowledgable, and mature sergeants are highly motivated in their craft.

The recruiting office in Oslo administered physical fitness and mental aptitude tests to all applicants. The number of volunteers had shocked National Front officers who had only begun the program as a propaganda tool. Nevertheless, the manpower resources were appreciated and those that passed the rigorous tests were housed in a large warehouse in Oslo that had been converted into a bunkhouse.

Due to the stringent physical requirements and required skills, the number of accepted applicants were very low. Fighting in the African Bush would not be child's play and there was no reason to allow men, no matter how dedicated, to sacrifice their lives because they couldn't keep up.

ACCEPTED APPLICANTS
98/200 Swedish volunteers
42/2,248 Australian volunteers
32/56 Caspian volunteers
8/20,000 URSR volunteers
856/1,000 German volunteers
19/5,000 UKIM Volunteers

TOTAL: 1,055/28,504
3.7% of applicants were accepted

Additionally, all "volunteers" from Flueve were shot as they tried to cross the border.

In order to beat the Arctican blockade, various airlift plans were drawn up but rejected. The National Front simply did not have the aircraft available to airlift roughly a thousand soldiers themselves, nor the funds to charter aircraft, nor the political will to involve foreign governments by requesting assistance. A Norwegian shipping firm with ties to Tahoan expatriates offered the use of two medium tonnage freighters that would transport the men and some light equipment to Swakopmund under the Norwegian flag.

The Aragonese volunteers who landed in Windhoek were greeted by National Front officers who housed them in the barracks outside the city. They would serve as the NCOs for what had been deemed the 1st Transvaal Light Infantry Regiment.

Around 1,800 people from Sri Lanka, a considerable number being former military men who had been discharged after 5 to 10 years of service, signed up for the foreign legion.
As it happened, the father of one owned a Sri Lankan shipping company, which could likely be persuaded to aid in bringing the soldiers to where they were needed.

Most of those from Germanic Union which had been accepted had with them a little African Warfare Handbook issued by the Reichswehr. It covered at first some historical wars, and also of course Rommel's old division. But most of the content focused on the German Empire's and Nordland's experiences in African Warfare during the times of the Mercurial Revolution and earlier when dealing with a rogue nation. Additionally, tips on how to adapt to the new weather were a main point of the little booklet.

These guys had brought with them quite a bit of sunscreen.

One of the Norwegian ships setting out from Oslo, en route to Walvis Bay.

For the week long trip from Norway to South Africa, all recruits were heavily drilled in physical fitness and attended roughly six hours of class a day, where they were instructed in basic tactics and learned the weapons they would be using. A firing range was set up off the stern of the ship, were recruits would practice firing at towed targets. None of this substituted for real military training, but certainly would help, particularly since many recruits had previous military experience.

All further recruits were invited to make their own way, at their own expense, to South Africa. Sri Lankan recruits, capable of their own transport, were also invited to sail for Walvis Bay.

With most of the Sri Lankan volunteers only recently having been discharged, they still were fit, well-drilled and all in all a good shape.
Regardless of this they temporarily turned an oil-tanker (which had just been 'renovated' of sorts) into a mobile drill camp during the journey to Walvis bay, much like the ships used by the Norwegians to bring recruits southwards.

In a stroke of luck, one of Sri Lanka's corporations dealing with military hardware had donated equipment, with the result that they wouldn't need as many supplies from the African nation they would be fighting for.

The Union's volunteers did well. The monthly military training across the country had made a difference, and while they were not quite up to professional level, they were certainly better than most citizens. They all already knew the basics, and had a bit of a guerilla-oriented training too. A few of them excel even beyond this, as some used to be professional soldiers veterans from the last war, they had either seen action in Southern Germany or in France, and there was even one Einherjar and one Valkyrie that tried to assist everybody else even if they would not be able to reach their high standards.

When he saw the advertisement online, Nick Dagger knew this was his time to shine. With previous armed forces experience as a Marine he would surely be accepted.

He sent off his application stating every detail of his distinguished military career and began to make arrangements for transport to South Africa.

*** Encrypted Message to Germany/Sweden/Sri Lanka ***

Transport vessels travelling from Oslo docked in Ascension Island to await the arrival of the frigate LT CĂșchulainn. The three vessels proceeded to Walvis Bay, docking four hours ago.

We advise the Sri Lankan tanker to take a southerly route away from the South African coast to avoid the Arctican blockade. We will attempt to give it a support in the last few hundred miles of the journey though depending on conditions it may need to make its way through the blockade under the Sri Lankan flag.

"Acknowledged.
Will change course southwards.
Flag prepared. Will attempt to disguise tanker for delivery of crude oil.
End"

With the crew and passengers warned, the tanker would change its course to avoid the blockade, moving in a large curve to try and get through a hole in the blockade, if there was one. Luckily, supplies would last more than long enough for such a maneuver, even if it did delay the arrival somewhat.
