A blast of cold air brought Vicent Alemán out of his meditation, and as he gathered his black leather peacoat off of the seat next to him, he felt the comforting cold steel of the .45 in its pocket. Xavi, take the next exit, he said as he rolled down his window half-way. The Land Rover slowed and then exited the highway and entered the dark city. Barcelona was a bad place to be this time of the night. The once colorful city had become lawless, and was disputed territory that the well-funded and not-so-well fought over in a deadly game of chess. The Russian mobs, street gangs, Muslim militias, anarchists, and communists all were fighting for control of this once beautiful metropolis. Vicent Alemán, who his friends called Cento, and the inhabitants of Barcelona- The German, was going to drive them all into the sea.

Cento waved at one of the black suburbans following to pass and take the lead, and as the armored SUV passed, he began to slow. They were coming up to one of the numerous checkpoints that the muslim militias had set up. The militia recognized the convoy of black SUV's and waved them through-- the shady inhabitants of Barcelona knew it wasn't wise to anger El Alemán, The German, for he was the largest arms dealer on the Iberian peninsula. As the convoy made its way through the dark streets on the way to Cento's compound in the Port de Barcelona, automatic rifle fire could be heard sporadically throughout the neighborhoods. Xavi, who was driving the Land Rover, asked Cento if if everything was going to be alright. Cento looked up from his laptop SAT-link, and nodded and then smiled. The King has approved, now that he has his air-support--operations will begin in twenty-four hours, he replied.

The Land Rover sped down an alley into the port and as the view opened up of the waterfront, there were seven more massive transport ships moored there, with their cranes working swiftly in the dark, unloading massive crates onto Vicent Alemán's docks.

Before Cento closed his eyes for some much needed sleep he sent off a series of emails to his contacts around the world:
Friends of the Crown,

The time has arrived, and our arduous journey is almost at an end. Soon we will be refreshed with the knowledge that a just and righteous King will restore peace and prosperity to Catalunya and Aragon.

Please, with all resources available, lobby the governments and corporations of the world for the trade of fuel and food to be kept open as we work to establish The Crown of Aragon.

Long Live King Salvador

and Long Live The Crown of Aragon-Catalunya
A periscope jutted out of the white capped sea forming a V through the waves, as two pair of fighter jets accelerating rapidly shrieked past causing vapor rings to appear around the aircraft. Homeplate 6, Rojo 2,Bullseye, heading 030, cherubs 8, going buster --radioed the pilot. A few moments later he heard-- Rojo 2, Homeplate 6, Roger, Clear, As Fragged. The coastline rapidly grew as the low flying fighter jets screamed toward Barcelona.

The periscope dropped below the waves and signaled to Flotilla Real the all clear sign. Just over the horizon the Royal Fleet and its six aircraft carriers began reversing their screws as they zig-zagged in unison on approaching the coast of Catalunya. Meanwhile two landing ships and an escort broke from the formation and headed directly north to the coastline.

Vicent Alemán was climbing into his Land Rover when the fighter jets flew over, straining his ears. On cue, he waved to the man in goggles sitting atop an olive-drab, eight-wheeled Light Armoured Vehicle covered with antennas. Seconds later, a large convoy of LAV's, Main Battle Tanks and trucks moved out of the front gate of the docks and split into two columns. Several large helicoptors rose from the port compound, festooned with large megaphones.

Sweat trickled down Xavi's back, about the time he heard the pilot announce--feet dry, in his earbud. He was beginning to worry, but jumped into action as he turned on a laser target designator he had pointed at a beautiful villa about a thousand meters down the street. Better get it right, he thought, and hoped that the man he was about to kill hadn't been in the vehicle that left the villa moments before. Hog Six Actual, Rojo 2, Shooter--said the pilot. Only a few seconds went by before a massive orange and black fireball appeared where the villa was, followed a second or two later by two booms. As the shockwave ebbed, Xavi was already heading quickly to his dirtbike parked in the adjacent ally.

As several black plumes grew above Barcelona, six large black helicoptors flew over the once colorful avenidas, and boulevards, streaming thousands of leaflets onto the streets, while the megaphones blared-- "This is a mandatory evacuation. Please gather your families and leave the city at once. You have 72 hours to leave the city or you will be in danger. This is a mandatory evacuation"...

An hour later at a government checkpoint outside of Barcelona the scared and confused residents of the city began to arrive. Alemán, reminded the young Major in charge of this checkpoint to identify every man between the ages of 16 and up, but to treat everyone with respect. All families leaving the city will be given vouchers for food and shelter, and be directed to safe havens across Aragon-Catalunya. The city was surrounded by the new government's forces. We will restore law and order, said Vicent as he walked back to his Land Rover to make a call.

Your Majesty, we are gaining control of the coastal areas. At the moment, everything is moving smoothly, Vicent said. Keep moving ahead as quickly as possible, King Salvador replied. You have done well here, and will be rewarded greatly one day. But in the meantime, this is your country, and until an election can be held you are the defacto Prime Minister of The Crown of Aragon-Catalunya. Keep me updated hourly via secure email...

Alemán slid quickly off of his office couch where he had finally fallen asleep. He slowly made his way to the small bathroom behind his office, and showered. Feeling refreshed, he dressed quickly in a pair of khaki slacks with cargo pockets, a synthetic black polo shirt, and a pair of brown leather hiking boots. Gathering his laptop bag, he left his office and walked down the hallway of his office in the port to the conference room.

Caballeros, Alemán said as he sank into the leather chair at the conference table. As an aide poured coffee, Alemán asked his generals for their reports.

General de Brigada Marques of the Legion Real spoke first. Airstrikes on the first day eliminated the Russian mafia's leadership, as well as the Muslim Militia's key personal. Our naval infantry's sniper teams were able to shoot several of the cadre who run the communist terror organization that has been killing businessmen and clergy along the coast.

General de Division Garcia of the 1st Armored Division turned on his powerpoint and began outlining the troop movements of the last several days. After the first 72 hours were over, we pushed into the city in a three-pronged movement with armoured grenadiers in the vanguard, followed by infantry searching buildings and houses. We pushed through slowly for three days until we reached the coast. We killed approximately 25 looters, and arrested 400 more. We encountered little resistance and our division only sustained 19 killed and 85 more wounded. Mostly due to snipers and a few IED's. Our forces have captured almost 2,000 suspected criminals and terrorists, and killed around 150 in small skirmishes. Our Engineer Battalion is now checking all key points, and bridges for safety issues and we expect the city to be cleared for civilians by tommorow evening.

Commandante Cervantes opened a folder and passed around a stack of photos. Caballeros, she said as she rose from her seat. Our Policia have tooken custody of all captured during this operation and we have began identifying and documenting each suspect. All looters and criminals will be turned over to our courts. All foreign criminals and suspected terrorists will be deported immediately after being documented. I believe that Barcelona and surrounding areas to be free of the criminal elements that have been extorting and assaulting our countrymen. Soon the sound of Rumba Catalana, and flamenco will be heard once again on our city streets, she said as she closed her folder.
