1. Let's be straight up here. Yes, some members cheered what Yarid did, but most of the alliance DID NOT. None of the leaders did. Yarid was a FORMER member of the alliance when it happened. I'm not a big fan of an entire alliance being blamed for the actions of one former member (I wasn't then, and I'm pretty sure why people can guess I'm not now). And yes, what he wrote was horrific in nature, but the blame never fell on the entire alliance. At the time, I was following the party line being towed by my government and our allies, but I was never fully in support of the war against LUE. If Tyga had never nuked duff, GATO would have canceled the MDP, but I can't say for sure whether or not we'd have gone for war, and I'm leaning towards us staying out of it. It would have been an internal GATO debate that would have been pretty heavily divided. Many wouldn't have been happy with the MDP cancellation within GATO. I speak only for GATO in this situation and cannot attest to the sentiments for any other alliance. If anyone wants to review the logs of the initial discussion, I personally never committed to the war. I explained certain facts about LUE-mentality and what I thought would be the best way to get them to leave the game (as I had experience with LUE in prior years through GameFAQs), but never did I openly state I wanted war. I even said it would be a four day debate while the MDP canceled. But there's the rub. The MDP wasn't canceled, and the attack on duffman04 by Tygaland dominoed as such: an attack by the NpO is to be considered an attack by the NPO, because of the Ordinance of Order, but an attack on LUE is to be considered an attack on GATO, because of the LUEnacy Covenant. So, with one nuke, two treaties are activated, despite the will of the people behind the two alliances not directly involved in the attack. I spoke to Ivan after the nuke, and he said it was not his will and that he was going to wait for GATO's decision, one way or another. So there you have it. Despite the inconvenience of following the NpO into battle, he did it because of the active treaty. We did the same thing on the other side. You can take my word from it or not, but those are the facts.
[00:38:10] <Ivan> You have a MDP with LUE? [00:38:17] <01Chris_Kaos> Yes. [00:38:23] <01Chris_Kaos> Why didn't you go to Yoda? [00:38:31] <Ivan> Who? [00:38:40] <01Chris_Kaos> Our leader. [00:38:46] <Ivan> Ah [00:38:51] <01Chris_Kaos> Talk to me, it's fine. [00:38:55] <Ivan> I missed the last Chair vote [00:39:16] <01Chris_Kaos> What is it that you need? [00:40:20] <Ivan> I was unaware of a MDP between you and LUE. Was just curious. [00:40:30] <01Chris_Kaos> All right. [00:40:51] <01Chris_Kaos> Your thoughts on this mess? [00:41:14] <Ivan> Well, the NpO launch caught us by surprise (they are not our puppets contrary to belief) [00:41:25] <Ivan> We were obligated because of our MDP with them [00:41:32] <01Chris_Kaos> Indeed. [00:41:40] <01Chris_Kaos> You were waiting for us, right? [00:42:34] <Ivan> I was [00:42:40] <Ivan> Tygaland got pissed and launched [00:43:01] * Chris_Kaos nods.
2.
Woot and I are so awesome they couldn't choose one of us.
This is pretty much true. Kev and I were all, "They're pretty much the same person anyway. Let them figure who's top and who's bottom."
 3.
There's a long precedent of treaties not being followed when the attack is justified, which GATO clearly felt it was (a position GATO repeated ad nauseum to justify Legion breaking their MDP with the NPO). Hence you got statements like this from the ODN who held an MDP with LUE: <CreepyLurk> I cannot believe the ODN would retaliate if NPpO moved on LUE. It was an opportunistic pile-on to destroy a political rival. Treating it as anything more honourable than that is dishonest. I'm not sure what this is meant to prove. Legion joined against us, it hurt, and then they left and we quickly recovered (leading to a lot of coaluetion alliances surrendering to us, and talks with a number of the major alliances like CDS about a separate peace). There's a reason you only got a personal apology and not the crippling reps/disbandment of NpO that you were looking for. Given the orders handed down by Manwe, people can find a full history of events here. It was also admitted long ago that GATO spied; especially on NPO at the time. Indeed, before Legion joined against us I discovered and outed a GATO spy within their membership (Ao Wolf, if I recall). Not that they were too appreciative.
As much fun as it would be rekindling an ancient debate between the dear Vladimir and myself, my fingers would get tired typing it up. I'll just refer everyone to Bros' history of CN for a better account of the GW.
 4.
Can someone explain to me who won GW1 please? I think we need an in depth discussion.
The NPO and NpO surrendered to the CoaLUEtion. No matter that Ivan Moldavi retracted his apology years later, it was a surrender then and now. There's something else I should point out, and I know that I'm going to be slammed for this, but whatever. Ivan Moldavi posted a thread in the Council Chamber of the NPO forums asking the Alliance and War councils if they thought he should resign. I distinctly remember him saying that if Legion backed out of defending them, that he was afraid they would lose, and that he only ever planned to stay Emperor as long as it would serve Pacifica and not hurt it. I recall the exact ending, "I am not Nero." And before anyone asks, there were TWO spies in the councils during the war. One in the AC, one in the WC. Both came to me independently with this. I didn't even ask. Also, neither of them were GATOan spies, one was an independent, and one was LUE. Good old days.
So, just for clarification, the four day period you mentioned was built into the cancellation clause?
Yes it was.
does anomaly still paint himself as the saviour of LUE because of this because that's funny
Not really.
 5.
Haha, GATO and their democracy. There's so many great logs out there (if they still exist) about how it took GATO forever to do anything. GATO
Actually, it had nothing to do with GATO's democracy in this situation. The decision to repeal the MDP and declare war rested solely on the Assembly Chairman, upon the recommendation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense, respectively. GATO used to be slightly more efficient for certain things.
 6.
You saw the removal of LUE from existence as being the best thing for the game, and then backed out of it on a procedural technicality. Yoda was also acting on orders from a spy ring, rather than GATO's sense of honour (after all, she'd just been discussing the best way to destroy her ally an hour beforehand).
Actually, as I explained in the thread in which I banished Yoda forever from GATO, it wasn't her decision to go to war. In fact, very little of anything she did during her tenure as AC was her decision, so don't pull that up. It was in fact on Ragashingo's suggestion and my agreement that we go to war against the Orders.
 7.
Much love.
The Big Brown Kitty will always protect our LUEsers.
 8.
Your government titles are well beyond classy. Also, it may not be as nice as a Fark erection, but i'd erect that flag anywhere; it's incredibly well-made!
Our DiCKaNUS did that.
 9.
[10 minutes earlier] <Chris_Kaos> Cancelling the NAP and MDPs [with LUE]. [...] <Chris_Kaos> We've no other choice, really. <Chris_Kaos> War [against LUE] seems to be the only viable option.
[23:09:49] <Chris_Kaos> Cancelling the NAP and MDPs. Almost an hour beforehand. And if you remember, kind of a lot happened in that hour! Like Tygaland nuking someone with whom we had an active MDP! Sorry, Vlad, but we told you to wait. Not our fault if someone didn't listen. Here it is: [23:14:20] <Chris_Kaos> We need four days minimum even if we consider war. [23:14:31] <Chris_Kaos> We, as in GATO. [23:14:38] <Chris_Kaos> The rest of...I don't know.
 10.
No kidding. Only four windows flashing for a start.
Hell yeah. Though it escalated to like twenty, with twenty more channels open, as soon as the war was declared.
 11.
Interesting that you still have the logs after all this time. Things were simpler, back then.
I have all my WTF May and Great War logs. Recovered them from an old hard drive.
 12.
That's pretty epic.
Frankly, it's a bit boring. The DoW was equally as boring. "We, the Global Alliance and Treaty Organization, honour our treaties and hereby declare war on the New Pacific Order and New Polar Order." But still, history is history.
 13. These words were spoken to me shortly before update on July 15/16, 2006 (depending on your timezone). Not really much else to say. The topic doesn't need rehashing, and it's a never ending debate as to who was right and who was wrong, but I was going through some old logs and figured that some old folks might appreciate the nostalgia factor.
[00:22:35] <Anomaly> Well, uh... [00:22:40] <Anomaly> >_> I take it you know what happened? [00:23:40] <Chris_Kaos> Yes. [00:23:42] <Chris_Kaos> Hold on a sec. [00:23:47] <Chris_Kaos> Four windows flashing. [00:24:06] <Anomaly> ...x_x Hold on? I just got nuked, dammit. [00:24:46] <Chris_Kaos> I know. [00:24:56] <Chris_Kaos> You're invoking the MDP, aren't you? [00:25:42] <Anomaly> I'd like to say we don't want to pull you into this war, but I don't know how this'll turn out [00:25:45] <Anomaly> . >_> [00:42:07] <Chris_Kaos> We're in. [00:44:33] <Anomaly> Thank you. [00:44:40] <Anomaly> >_> I don't really know what else to say.
14. I wish you the best of luck. And welcome back, Anomaly, my old friend.
 15.
Lacks the profanity and gay jokes that used to honor its pages in the old days. It does no justice to its record!
This, I think, is the single nicest thing you have ever said Musso. And yeah, I know. Unfortunately, stricter rules and whatnot. Next issue should be better. This was a bit dry.
 16.
This reminds me of TWiP.
Yeah, except Cox News predates it by almost three years. Plus, this is just the first issue. The rest of them will be slightly more relevant to the world at large.
 17.
i was there for it, except that there wasnt any to begin with.
Nation Created: 7/9/2007 4:25:40 PM (1,121 days old) You missed the good stuff by about a year. Sorry.
 18.
Why not just post it here then?
Some issue with moderation. Given GARO and Cox News!'s colourful past, I asked a mod to check it to see if it was postable.
 19.
I'm very lazy to register in another forums
You don't have to. Guests can view the main article.
 20. We would like to take this opportunity to announce the launch of the new and improved Cox News!, still Straight and Poised, but now flaming more hotly than ever. Due to the uncompromising genius of Cox News!’s wit and satire, and a desire to keep our warn levels under the (still official?) title “Angry mod banninnated 4everz”, the newspaper will be hosted from the GARO forums; however, this does not mean that Cox News! is in any way associated with GARO. In fact, Cox News! denies any such claim. Just because we are hosted on GARO, directed by the GARO-appointed Head of Media Organization (HoMO), and written exclusively by GARO members does not mean that we serve as a propaganda outlet in the interests of our benefactors, just as our model, Fox News, in no ways serves the interests of the Republican Party (Heil Hannity). And so, without further delay, we are pleased to announce the first edition of Cox News!. Below is a teaser story from the first edition. 21.
Did you add Chris Kaos' latest collection of failure to your list of alliances that must disband?
Nearly all of my old "enemies" have wished me well in this new endeavor. I find it rather mystifying that you wouldn't do the same, considering it has been more than three years since I had had any contact with this game, and goodness knows how long since you and I spoke directly. Not only are your barbs unsuccessful in any sense of the word, but they make you look extremely petty. Perhaps you should go back to wherever it was you were hiding.
I only listed the top 80 alliances. I'm actually hoping he'll be able to stir some excitement with that project.
Thank you, Dopp.
 22.
Dislike. Immensely. Hope you die a slow, painful death, losers.
Mussolandia, I see you are as bitter as ever and still resort to the same flames and trolling tactics you used three+ years ago, which are now laughably outdated. The only difference between then and now is that now you're even more irrelevant than you were.
 23.
Heh. And you didn't contact me about this??? Hmm... or maybe you tried and I was busy... Anyway, nice name.
Sure I did. On AIM. You brushed me off.
 24. Edit: I should read people's requests first. GARO will take a couple in Brazil's easternmost point. Some sort of red.
