  3. Conti, The 3rd July 2009 Archives Ident. 2009/004M Regimental Colours of the Naval Infantry Regiment At a press conference held in Conti today, Colonel Beaulieu briefly commented the ongoing military exercise involving the Naval Infantry Regiment. "[...] As you know our home waters are exempt from acts of piracy, however the disruption of major shipping lines by blatant acts of piracy outside Conti's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEC) is a growing concern. But we feel that we are still ill-prepared to face these new threats effectively and that is the rationale behind the ongoing military exercise. We’re taking a proactive approach and do not exclude to be deployed on merchant ships should we be required to do so. [..]The absence of a fully-fledged blue water limits our logistical capability to conduct large scale force projections operations. It is a matter for our elected representatives and you can appreciate that I am not in a position to comment on decisions that remain the prerogative of the Great Council. […] I will never stress enough that our military apparatus is primarily geared towards self-defence and the policing of our home waters, not to conduct expeditionary warfare. I haven’t received any indication that this policy is about to change." (militaryphotos.net)

  6. Further to Ministerpräsident Tanzband's invitation formulated via private diplomatic channels, the Great Council of Conti, upon the recommendation of the Council of Ten has nominated one of its members, Councillor Cartier to represent the Bailiwick in the capacity of special envoy to the ongoing summit in Konigsberg. He will be assisted in his task by the Secretary of State for Commerce. Councillor Cartier’s mandate is limited to discussions over the Commune of Calais/Kales. […] Owing to its geographical location Calais is of paramount importance to Conti's trade with its north and eastern European neighbours as it commands entrance to the North Sea and beyond the Baltic markets. The Bailiwick’s diplomatic effort will focus on securing control of the city to ensure navigation on such vital waterways is not hindered by an unfriendly power. Councillors Cartier has already hinted that Conti would be ready to guarantee local taxation and civic amenities will remain the prerogative of the City's Lord-Mayor without interference from the Bailiwick. Conti’s delegation is expected to reach Konigsberg tomorrow. […]

  15. Conti, The 16th June 2009 Archives Ident. 2009/003 When the Bailiff stepped in the Great Hall of the Guildhall with a carnivorous smile on his face, the assembled members of the press were left in no doubt that the announcement to follow was of paramount importance. They were about to witness history in the making. “[…] I am delighted to announce that a settlement has been reached with the Proxian Empire with regards to the former Welsh province of Brittany. The peninsula has been ceded to Conti and the Great Council has approved emergency legislation put forward by the Council of Ten to firmly establish the rule of the Bailiwick over its new province. The newly founded Brittany Company has been trusted with the administration of the Brittany for a period of five years. The BC will effectively assume all political and administrative responsibilities in Brittany on behalf of the Great Council. The BC has also been granted special trading rights and fiscal privileges for the length of its mandate. […] Ships operated or owned by the BC have the privilege to sail under the company’s own flag. […]"
  16. It's seems my claim over RL Island of Jersey + Britanny has been overlooked. Please kindly add Conti to the world map. King Penchuk of the Proxian Empire who curently holds a protectorate over these lands has agreed to a transfer of sovereignty. RP'd here and here. Regards

  18. Conti, The 14th June 2009 Archives Ident 2009/002 On the 8th June 2009 the Great Council of the Bailiwick of Conti issued the following declaration: Today the demise of the Welsh Empire marks effectively the fall of the last obstacle standing between Conti and its legitimate aspirations. On this day, the Bailiwick of Conti becomes a rightful member of the international community. Conti hereby reaffirms its existence to the world and wants to congratulate the Proxian Empire for achieving its long time ambition of uniting the island of Great Britain. It goes without saying that Conti does not harbour any territorial ambitions over any part of Great Britain. We are looking forward to establishing commercial and diplomatic ties with our northern neighbours. The Bailiff of Conti
  19. OOC: No probs. Communiqué: [...] Arrangements have already been made for the accommodation of the Emperor and his legate in Conti's Guildhall. Negotiations will begin at the Emperor’s earliest convenience. The Council of Ten, the executive governing body of the Bailiwick (as stated in the Instrument of Government) will lead these talks and report to the Great Council. The Ten have already submitted the following proposals: 1. Any future Welsh claim over unadministered land anywhere in the world will receive Conti’s backing. 2. The Bailiwick of Conti is willing to send a permanent envoy to Cardiff: a Resident Minister, the highest office in Conti’s diplomatic corps, would be appointed to the Imperial Court to reflect the importance of our bilateral relations with the Welsh Empire [...] Off the record, the Bailiff of Conti was not hiding the significance of what happened last night in Wales. "The fate of our island, all of 116 km sq of it, a dot on the world map engulfed by a nation stretching from Wales proper to the Iberia peninsula, is not going to have much impact on the cohesion of the Welsh Empire. Wales is a proud, prosperous and well administered nation. This whole issue is blown out of proportions. Extravagant claims to the contrary are ill-founded to say the least. And we know where they come from. Fortunately enough, in political terms, Prime Minister Brown is increasingly irrelevant. He narrowly survived a motion of no confidence from his backbenchers last week, his political capital is now close to absolute zero, he’ll be gone within a year. Make no mistake; the Welsh chief-negotiator is still within the cosy walls of her Palace in Cardiff. The latest developments have been positive in the sense that channels of communication have now been open between both parties. Now we must seize momentum and reach an agreement. We will renew our plea to Emperor Gav face to face: the Empire must relinquish it's claims of suzerainty over this island. There will be no ultimatum, just an appeal to reason. Conti wants to establish diplomatic relations with other nations of the world and sign treaties. We are a pragmatic people and until recently it was not on our agenda. As long our economy grew steadily and our city prospered the significance of formalising any sort of political autonomy we de facto enjoyed had little relevance. Now we feel the status quo has become detrimental to our development. Other nations will be reluctant to engage in bilateral relations as long as the Welsh Empire will claim this land. And we are challenging that. Our message to the Welsh delegation will be simple: it is time to open a new chapter in our relations, as trading partners and friends. And one never has too many friends."
  20. In a brief communiqué released today, the Bailiff of Conti expressed his satisfaction with Promised Land’s public stance on the issue of the Bailiwick’s international recognition. "[…] It is an encouraging step for which we are grateful. […]The Councillor of State’s recent declaration, which has been approved by the Great Council, made it clear that our primary intent has never been to act unilaterally. We are a patient people and we will not act in haste and inconsiderately. We want to exhaust all negotiation options with representatives of the Emperor before making any formal announcement to the international community. If they ever begin that is. [..]The situation will be reassessed in a week time.” OOC: I contacted The Welsh Empire IG but got no reply. It seems my attempts to negotiate here will be just as unsuccessful.
  21. Conti, The 8th June 2009 Archives Ident. 2009/001 Declaration read by the Councillor of State for Commerce to the Great Council in session assembled. [...]Conti is a city of craftsmen, merchants, sailors and adventurers. A tight knit community of industrious men bound together by the audacity of their enterprise. The early days of our existence have been marked by this very spirit. Soon our ships were diligently scouting the seven seas for new treasures, spices and riches to trade. Subsequently, the rise of our merchant navy, the growth of our commerce, the consolidation of democratic institutions upheld by the Instrument of Government have all been a testimony to our determination. But they have been obtained patiently, quietly. [...] By nature, we have little inclination for grand politics and we always have been wary of its entrapments. However the reality of our world is that more than ever before, trade and international politics are inherently imbricated, are now part of each other’s fabric. Therefore the pursuit of our commercial interests now commands a shift in our policy, the time of isolationism has come to end. Change may have been forced upon us by the course of events but we must embrace it for it is the promise of a new era of prosperity. Our diplomatic attempts to settle this matter via private channels have been so far ignored by the Welsh Empire. Conti will therefore be left with no alternative but to publish this document, for all to see. The Great Council of the Bailiwick of Conti and the Council of Ten hereby urges the Welsh Empire to publicly renounce to its suzerainty over our island (RL Jersey – Channel Islands). Our very existence is a fact of life and said suzerainty is nothing short than illegitimate. We call upon the Empress to formally put an end to this historical fiction. Conti must take its rightful place among nations of the world.
