Three decades ago as the Oceanic Union dissolved, Selenarctos held the majority of Oceania as a protectorate zone. During this time, with the Selenarctos Army deployed across the continent there was concern that this created something of a double standard for the the army commanders: on one side the Army was expected to integrate itself as a population-friendly police force in protectorate zones, while on the other side the Army had to be ready to engage and eliminate an external enemy of the state without delay or hesitation in the event that Selenarctos came under attack. The Selenarctos Peacekeeping Force was created separate protectorate police duties from national security, and free Army units for deployment if they were needed elsewhere. In today's world, Selenarctos no longer maintains the protectorate zones it once did. The Pacific Protectorate Zone is one of the last remaining protectorates, home to far less than the population of Australia or Indonesia that once existed as protectorate zones. In fact, of the the ten full strength Peacekeeping divisions only half of the 106th SPF Mechanized Division are actively deployed in the Pacific Protectorate Zone. The remaining nine and a half division reside on friendly soil with no active deployments expected for the foreseeable future. This begs the question: does Selenarctos still need a 150,000 man strong peacekeeping force? With elections on the horizon, this seems a fair question for the Presidential candidates.
