JEDCJT
It was expected, sort of. It wasn't very long since southern Virginia was taken over and annexed into the Territory of Virginia, and now that territory was being granted independence. To the bitter disappointment of Jefferson Randolph, who had recently founded the Virginia Statehood Party in hopes of getting Virginia into the Union, the National Assembly took into consideration of the wishes of the majority of the Virginian population and thus took an appropriate course of action. It was time to let Virginia go and let it become an independent nation on the world stage, like New England did with the former State of Rhode Island (currently J Andres). This was confirmed with a 2/3 majority vote in the National Assembly (which was somewhat difficult given the reluctance of some members to let Virginia go). True, some hundreds of Virginians supported the prospects of their land being admitted into the Union as a state, the overwhelming majority favored independence, except the population of south Virginia. They were simply content to remain in New England as a territory, but they would take independence when the opportunity came. Thus, starting immediately, NEBP troopers began evacuating their bases at the border (including the unfinished ones at the southern border) as Army soldiers and officials (military and civilian) began packing up and moving northwards, to West Virginia, Maryland, and New Columbia. However, the troops and officials took all sensitive documents and the like with them. Any military bases in Virginia was closed and all ships in Virginian ports left for New England. In Richmond, while troops were lowering the New Englander flag from the territory's capitol building, a New Englander general saluted the populace before he and his troops left the city. "May God bless you always. I bid you farewell and wish you well on the world stage." He said as he saluted. Virginia was now independent. AironthFlamewing
The men of the Old Dominion Home Guard(henceforth ODHG) saluted the New Englanders crisply clicking their heels together as the flag of the Old Dominion was raised: As the flag was raised 6 volleys of 4 shots were fired from the Dominion Rifles and cheers went up from the masses of people that had joined in the city square. The newly named Lord of the Dominion Lord Alexandre Zokol looked at the cheering crowds from his new City hall structure in Richmond and issued the address to the people that they were to be safe and prosper always under his rule. Michael McBride
What is the "Kennedy Doctrine"? If any of New England's territories that they grant independence fall into anarchy, control of these territories is automatically reverted back to New England control. This was established by the late New England president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. For the Federation's part, we welcome Virginia into the world and have ordered our navy to patrol farther north for the time being to help protect Virginia's coastline along with adjusting one of our satellites to allow our SDI to cover Virginia in its infancy. Pravus Ingruo is correct. The Theocratic Bureaucracy of Rebel Virginia does not recognize this regime. We will return, and you will die. We do not recognize this "regime" claiming to be the 'Theocratic Bureaucracy of Rebel Virginia.' There was a state in North America of the same name that used to stand where Virginia stands currently, though. OOC: ohai, RV
