By now we all know the general details of what happened in Tuscon, Arizona: some nut (unaffiliated with an political party) decides to go on a shooting rampage that results in the deaths of six people including a 9 year-old girl. A judge was killed. A Congresswoman was critically wounded. It's a national tragedy. This is a time when all Americans should be one. However what I have seen in the thread here discussing what happens is a group of people at each others' throats. The more I looked at it, the more disgusted I was. So, from here on out, I have no intention of reading anymore of that thread. It's toxic and it's indicative of what is so wrong with the political discourse in this nation. Mainly, I'm checking out of it because if I kept reading, I think I would completely lose faith in mankind. I'm a big believer in hope (not to sound to Obama-esque ) but the tone of that discussion would likely throw me into despair, so I guess it is a self-preservation thing.
I will say this. I hope that through this tragedy that happened, I hope we all reevaluate how we speak to one another on contentious issues. What is going on now just is not working.
