The President of the Tahoe Republic has resigned his office and due to the absence of a Vice President, an election for the office of the President of the Tahoe Republic

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the Radio Telefis Tahoe with a special report on this years elections. An oddity, of course as Sean O'Deaghaidh returns from exile in triumph to celebrations across the North. Unfortunately, due to events in the south it is uncertain as to whether the free and fair elections will be able to take place there, though the office of Christopher Bogart has commented that everything is being done to ensure voting can take place in the south. In the event of a shutdown of polling places in the south, the government has not indicated what will be done.

First we begin with a preview of Tahoe's three political parties. Due to the unique events surrounding current events, all parties have signed a conditional NATIONAL UNITY PARTY platform, led by Christopher Bogart of Portland. However, most candidates are still listing themselves as one of the three parties below in addition to the NATIONAL UNITY PARTY

National Party
Leader: Sean O'Deaghaidh
Political Ideology: Nationalism, Conservatism, Social Conservatism
Foreign Policy: Continue Tahoe's current foreign policy: strong defense through close relations with proven allies, continue manouvering enemies into defeat
Economic Policy: Keep taxes low, assist finanical industry if stability of whole nation is threatened economically
Social Policy: The government must keep restrictions on socially unacceptable behavior and promote Catholicism to ensure the safety and stability of the nation.

Labor Party
Leader: Ronan Doyle
Political Ideology: Liberalism, Christian Democracy, Democratic Socialism
Foreign Policy: Drastically expand Foreign Ministry to allow Tahoe to develop close relations with all nations of the world, regardless of historical relations. Diplomacy always comes first
Economic Policy: Consumer protection agencies are woefully inadequate and there needs to be stricter regulations on banks and other corporations.
Social Policy: Each county must make its own laws regarding social issues. What is acceptable in San Francisco is not always acceptable in Salt Lake City, and vice versa, so each region must be allowed to make its own laws. This is a federal republic, it is time to act like it.

Democratic Party
Leader: Darragh McDonnell
Political Ideology: Free market capitalism, Social Liberal, Libertarian
Foreign Policy: Cut treaties and adopt a strict neutrality policy. Tahoe has more important issues to focus on than the problems of the world
Economic Policy: Government got us into this mess, government is never going to get us out of this mess. Remove the income tax and replace it with a low VAT
Social Policy: The government has no business telling people what they can and cannot do. Therefore, to ensure maximum liberty, the people must be allowed to make decisions pertaining to their own life.

NATIONAL UNITY PARTY

Leader: Christopher Bogart (Also member of the Democratic Party
Ideology: Mixed, but dedicated to nothing but the restoration of the Tahoe Republic. Draws upon all three parties for support and most candidates are standing as members of the National Unity Party and their reespective, pre-war party. All three parties have indicated they will vote for Christopher Bogart as Prime Minister though both the National Party and Labor Party have stated they will support Bogart only in instances where there is mutual interest and on any subject related to the re-unification of the Tahoe Republic. After that has been accomplished, a more normalized coalition will most likely be needed to form the government as polling indicates it is unlikely for the Democratic Party to win a majority of the seats in the Parliament. The fascist National Republican Union and environmentalist Green Parties have both signed on as part of the National Unity Party and will vote for Bogart as Prime Minister, though only the Green Party has unilaterally endorsed him.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Polling:
Candidates supporting the National Unity Party have almost 96% of the support in North Tahoe. Polling will remain more difficult south of the border due to oppression there.

The National Party currently stands in first place with support from 32% of the electorate. The Democratic Party stands in second place with 28% of the electorate and the Labor Party in third with 19% of the electorate. Twenty percent stand undecided while only one percent stand to vote for a third party, mostly in small, sparsely populated districts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Analysis:

This will be the most unique election in Tahoe's history. It will stand to divide the country, as only half of the nation looks able to vote while the other half stand oppressed. The north, usually strongholds of the National and Democratic parties will unite with the Labor party to form the NATIONAL UNITY PARTY, led by Oregonian Christopher Bogart, who has been endorsed by all three parties and their leaders along with current President Sean O'Deaghaidh. Bogart promises to work tirelessly to unite Tahoe under its rightful government.

Bogart's election as Prime Minister is virtually guaranteed, barring some sort of disaster since all three major parties have endorsed him. The question is therefore will he be able to maintain his position after all is said and done, yet that question must be put off for some time as we have no way of knowing when Tahoe will be re-united, though God Willing, it will be soon.

Stand by for tommorrows report on the Presidential election that has been precipitated by the resignation of Sean O'Deaghaidh.

The Government of the Republic of Transvaal and the National Party of Transvaal both give official support to the National Party of Tahoe under the glorious and perfect leadership of An Taoiseach Sean O'Deaghaidh.

In other news, the Government of Transvaal issued a statement saying that "...in referencing the Loyalist Government of Tahoe and the (First and Only) Tahoe Republic in our national media, one may also use the term "True Tahoe" in colloquial situations - which differenciates from the illegial, imposter regieme of the so-called "Second Republic of Tahoe", which may be also called "False Tahoe".

To us, there seems a large problem with both the separate movements of Northern and Southern Tahoe. While both states advance, with, presumably, the mind to unite the now defunct territories of the First Republic I fail to see any alternative besides the possibility of, yet once again, war engulfing the North American continent and with such vocal support for either republic from the world, a potential global conflict as well. While France had no real problems with the old Tahoean regime led by O'Deaghaidh, as we are not people to involve ourselves in the internal affairs of the past, though I am sure that M. O'Deaghaidh has various reasons to be unliked by those minority citizens of his former republic. However, any regime led by the General, Christopher Bogart, would seem to lack any legitimacy at all. Bogart essentially is a traitor to the coalition that he represented and in my honest opinion, the true villain of these recent events.

My heart goes out to the people of Southern Tahoe and while I do not agree with some of the reforms that the Southern Tahoean regime has passed, it makes sense given the anger of the people, being oppressed for so long, that this would be their reaction. The world should realize, there is nothing glorious about these events, North or South, on one, a people so desiring for freedom after years of oppression have finally gotten their wish, only to be turned away from the world. While a majority has since reigned over the peoples of, essentially North America, have been topped and desire the same thing that the minorities want. Power, peace of mind, freedom.

Besides the good General Bogart, I would like to be the first to offer any chance or discussion between the Southern and Northern Regimes. I feel that there is freedom to be found both in the hearts of the South and the North and that the inevitable bloodshed might be put aside. Listen not to the world, filling your minds with screams of glory and power, but to the conscious of humanity that all too often leaders shove from their mind. Let me know if you're willing to talk.

"Well Ms. Zelle, I suppose your idea of who is good and evil depends on who you view the true villain to be in this war? I have seen the people I attempt to rule, they want their leader. O'Deaghaidh is the true leader of these people, and no matter what, there is nothing to change that. Now, I will attempt to start diplomatic talks between the true rulership of Tahoe and the people who feel wronged by it, and I am sure we can come to some agreement. As for myself, all is fair in love and war, and I would rather betray all the governments in the world than deny a people their wishes." - Statement from Christopher Bogart.

"If the people do not want Mr. O'Deaghaidh, then is he still the true leader? Nobody here seems to care about what the people want other than the people themselves, and everyone from their former ruler to nations in South Africa seem to think that they know better than what the people actually want. These elections do not represent the views of all the people of Tahoe, much like ours in the South did not represent the views of the North."

The fact of the matter is simple. Despite all the assurances from the south made to the government of the Tahoe Republic, 150 years of Tahoan history and culture are in danger of being erased forever. A foreigner rules over half of Tahoe, issuing decrees and massacring those loyal to the ideals of the Tahoe Republic, enshrined as liberty for all. Despite years of propaganda against the Tahoe Republic, the truth is simple. Tahoe's people want to live in peace and harmony with the world free and unbeholden to any man. Yet they are slaves, now. That is intollerable.

When you take a mans past away, he has no future. That is what the southern regime has done. That is not the will of the Tahoan people.

Presidential Candidates

Darragh McDonnell

Birth Name: Darragh George McDonnell
Nationality: Scottish-Tahoan
Political Party: Democratic. Also nominated by National Party
Spouse: Lauren McDonnell
Children: Katherine, Alexandra
Electoral District: Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco
Background: Served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Tahoan Navy for 22 years before entering politics. Engineered the rise of the Democratic Party from being a minor third party participating in San Francisco City Assembly elections to protest monopoly by National and Labor candidates to a major political force nationally. Although sometimes considered libertarian, McDonnell is a true centrist, supporting numerous aspects of both Labor and National policies. Outspoken isolationist who feels that such involvement in foreign affairs is extremely detrimental to Tahoe. Known to be avid rugby and football fan.

Analysis: It is widely known that Darragh McDonnell is the overwhelming favorite to win the Presidency. After engineering the stunning rise of the Democratic Party in the past 20 years, taking it from 4% of the vote in 1986 to 32% in 2008, he has become a national figure. After the 2008 elections left the Democratic Party as the second largest in Parliament, he entered a coalition with the National Party, becoming the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a move that greatly moderated Tahoan foreign policy after decades of interventionism. He engineered the policy of armed neutrality yet worked well with his National Party counterparts and was often seen in Cruachan (Sacramento) cafes with Kieran Kelly, the Prime Minister and second most powerful man in the Republic. He has become more libertarian in recent elections, opposing what he calls the "Big Government Parties" refering to the Nationalists and Labor. McDonnell believes that the people, "have been offered a false choice. The Nationalists will give you an oppressive government from the right and Labor will give you an oppressive government from the left. The people are best off when left alone."

Darragh McDonnell's stunning rise is ready to continue, in addition to the nomination by his own Democratic Party, he has been nominated for President by the National Party and Green Party as well, though only Nationalist support will make a major difference. His endorsement by Kieran Kelly, former Prime Minister and Sean O'Deaghaidh, President, is combined with every member of the pre-war cabinet. Radio Telefis Tahoe predicts McDonnell's victory in addition to offering our own humble endorsement.

Mary Leneghan

Birth Name: Mary Elizabeth Leneghan
Nationality: Irish Tahoan
Political Party: Labor
Spouse: Michael Leneghan
Children: Sarah, Rory
Electoral District: Bellevue, Washington
Background: Served as state senator in Washington State Senate for 10 years before being elected to National Assembly as part of the Senate. She rose through the ranks of the Labor Leadership and eventually became party whip, a position she held for many years despite repeatedly running for party leader. She is known for being soft spoken and mild mannered though extremely skillful debater who cares passionately for human rights.

Analysis: Mary Leneghan is the sacrificial lamb of the Labor Party and she seems to know it. She is running simply because the Labor Party could never approve of McDonnell as president, though they did join the other parties in supporting Bogart for Prime Minister. She is keeping a low profile and seems to be focusing on her position as a protest vote with most of her ads reminding voters that they do have a choice and that they will have to keep McDonnell accountable if he whens, though the unspoken "when he wins" is clear.

A man born and raised in Tahoe is now a foreigner? A man who fought and was wounded for the Tahoan Army is now a foreigner? That those loyal to the Tahoe Republic were given full pardons and were successfully repatriated is now 'masscring', as you so fantastically state? You just cannot seem to get over your own lies - it seems to be a chronic condition, that every time you open your mouth you spread lies and falsehoods. You have already made false claims about the deaths of Tahoans in Baja, and now you are making more - and lying about the citizenship of the popularly elected ruler to boot.

The people of South Tahoe are freer than they were were under the regime of the First Republic. When the past dominates the present, there is no future. This is what the First Republic is attempting to do.

Wait...didn't you censor all images of the old republic? I'm not sure if that constitutes complete liberty, but if we're having a junk waving contest about which country is freer than the other, then I'll point you to just down the road a piece at Washington Park where a demonstration is going on about how students deserve money for going through school, or down at Pioneer square where a group of retired Tahoan soldiers are parading through the streets. We haven't had people violently revolting against our government, why? They don't feel that they need to. They're already living whatever life they want to.

The very fact that Tahoans are prohibited from flying their flag or recognizing their history without punishment is proof enough that the southern regime is not only out of touch but a dangerous and oppressive dictatorship.

Why did tens of thousands of Tahoans rise up and fight the invaders in the south? Why did they rise up and fight your regime in a bloody civil war, only being put down with brute force? It is because the people are not free and Tahoe will never be at peace until its people, all of its people, are free.

The southern regime is not Tahoe at all, but a false idol and occupation government.

National Unity Party Victorious

The National Unity Party has swept Christopher Bogart into power. The constituent parties results are as follows

General Assembly
Democratic Party 37% of the national vote and 171 seats
National Party 41% of the national vote and 189 seats
Labor Party 21% of the national vote and 97 seats

One seat was won by the Martensist National Republican Union, two seats by the Green Party and two seats by the Socialist Party.

Overall the National Unity Party has 459 out of 462 votes in the General Assembly and has voted Christopher Bogart to be Prime Minister by a margin of 459 to 3. The National Party will be disappointed with the result as they get their worst showing in twenty years while the Democrats will be pleased to win a narrow minority, especially since the Prime Minister comes from their party and they can be assured that enough crossover from the National and Labor Party will occur on most votes to give them the command of the Parliament.

Senate
Democratic Party 28 seats
National Party 27 seats
Labor Party 7 seats

The Labor Party is routed with the Democrats taking the majority for the first time ever in the Senate. Labors wins are limited to the urban Northwest while the Democrats sweep the coast and National settles for winning its base in the interior.

Darragh McDonnell Wins the Presidency
Democrat Darragh McDonnell wins the Presidency with 68.13% of the vote to the Labor candidates 27.47%. So ends the O'Deaghaidh era.

Darragh McDonnell applauds supporters as the results are announced. Democratic Party banners bearing the DONT TREAD ON ME slogan fly in the background. Darragh McDonnell becomes the first President ever from the Democratic party and has pledged to reunite Tahoe while reseting relationships with the rest of the world.

Statement from PM Bogart: "I am pleased with the way these results turned out, but rest assured, I'll make it my duty to make sure all parties get a say, no matter how many seats they have. May Tahoe be completely free once more."
