...and reroute Disparuean roads that are headed for the Republic of York and the Great Lakes Provinces away from those nations.

Private reply from President Mays to Chancellor Atkin:

"Do you actually plan on cutting off road access between us? By the way, the St. Lawrence Seaway Expansion Project bill in GLP was approved, though large amount of Legislative members are planning to shutter the project by overriding my approval since they heard that the country they were cooperating with decided to remove border road connections. That offended members that strongly supported the waterway expansion."

Chancellor Atkin sighed. "Remember the border defences former President Thomas built in your nation? Well, apparently, they're still there, so there's no point in having roads to the GLP if my citizens are going through landmines. Besides, our own border defences are still up thanks to Thomas's actions, so civilians won't be able to get to the GLP anyway."

"The border defenses are largely incomplete, less than 20% was completed. Demolishing it would be a massive hassle. The Legislative decided to kill the project just when Thomas was kicked out of the President House. Besides, he made sure there were some exceptions, such as highways and rail since completely sealing off the border would result in the Legislative giving the veto stamp. Highway, road, and rail connections are still fully operational.

If you haven't noticed, we built concrete walls with fake plastic wood covering and grid posts to grow vines on the walls between the defenses and the border to prevent your citizens from seeing the ugly incomplete border defenses. We did post giant warning signs to tell readers to not climb over the vine wall though."

"I just realized something, would it be possible to use one type of high speed rail system instead of two incompatible ones if both of our transportation network upgrade bills are approved? I proposed a bill to the Legislative to double the amount of high-speed rails and build a set of the high-speed rails in between the two sides of all highways that have more than two lanes and the resulting construction will remove one lane on each side. All of the GLP highways that are connected to the border have at least three lanes."

Trains operate like aircraft, they don't stop until they reach the station unless if it is an emergency. You don't stop a commercial aircraft mid-air to search its passengers, do you? You force the passengers that came from another country to go through the customs by having the trains stop at certain platforms that directly lead to the customs and offer no legit alternative routes, kinda like international airports. To prevent passengers from jumping off the train (which would result in severe injures or death) or tossing illegal stuff out the window for their buddies to collect, design the windows and doors to not be opened during the commuting and allow it to be opened remotely if it is an emergency.

As for the two-lane highways, maybe you can split the HSR lines in half, half of the rail lines connect to the rest of the high speed rail network and the other half operates between the highway's two sides, not enough rails to require the destruction of one lane on each side. Or, you could have it elevated but that would be very expensive.

If a highway has curves that are too sharp of the HSR lines, then the line has to be moved away from the highway before reaching the sharp turn.

We of the Imperial Hudson Reich are saddened by the assassination of now-late Chancellor Celeste and the recent upsurge in violence going on in Disparu, and hope that, considering how close our nation is located to the Federation, the violence doesnt' spread to here.

Border defences along GLP to be torn down; former residents rejoice

In a historic move, the Government of Disparu has announced that it will begin tearing down and disarming the defences put along the Disparu-GLP border during the infamous tenure of the GLP's former President, Thomas Hankie. According to the Government, the GLP's government has begun to reform itself and is becoming less of an aggressive and hostile regime to its neighbours. The announcement was highly praised by the area's former residents, who were forced to leave due to the dangers the area formerly posed.

Over the next few weeks, teams from the Disparuean Forces will begin to disarm every single explosive and trap put into the border to slow down a hypothetical invasion from the GLP. They will also begin to tear down the fences, walls and outposts that have been set up in the area. Bases that have already been completed will continue to remain operational, however, planned bases that haven't been built or are currently being constructed will be cancelled and (if parts of the base have already been built) destroyed. As soon as this has been done, the Government, with the help of private contractors, will begin to rebuild the cities, towns and settlements formerly in the area. During this period, the Government will begin to allow former residents to return to the area. They will be compensated for the inconveniences their relocation had caused.

As stated before, this move has been applauded by many of the former residents. During an interview with a former resident of Gatineau who currently lives in a Government-funded apartment in Montreal, said that, "he was really excited to go home" . However, it has also been criticized by many economists, saying that the Government is spending too much of its budget.

The entire process is expected to take a year and will cost around DP$ 20 billion.

Government planning to repay J Andreans

During a heavily-guarded and heavily-screened press conference yesterday, the Government has announced that it will begin to repay J Andres for the financial aid they injected into the Disparuean economy following the Eterna Stock Exchange's literal collapse a few weeks ago. The repayment will not be a strain to the Government's already-shrinking budget since most of J Andres's aid has remained unspent by the Government. The Government also added that they will unpeg the Disparuean dollar from the J Andres Anchor as soon as everything has been paid off.

Referendum to be held in Labrador

Both the Government of Disparu and the Protectorate Government of Labrador have announced that a referendum will be held within Labrador in two weeks to determine if Labrador should enter Disparu as a territory. The decision to hold a referendum was approved after a well-known special interest group in Labrador submitted a petition to the protectorate's Commons to join Disparu. The results of the referendum will be published a day after voting. In the meantime, Labradoreans and Disparueans alike will be allowed to conduct rallies and the like for and against the merge.

Update on Celeste's assassination and the ESE's destruction, and other related news

The Royal Inquiry into the Assassination of Cynthia Celeste, also known as RI-ACC, has released parts of its findings to the public. According to the RI-ACC's report, the assassination was performed by a man using the alias 'Giles St. Danoche', the same person who apparently led the hostile takeover of DNN Jubilife's office. RI-ACC investigators are currently trying to unravel his true identity and are trying to (humanely) extract names and details from him. He is also a confirmed member of the Quebec Liberation Front (FLQ) and is apparently a high-ranking member. He was able to smuggle his weapons by hiding them inside a secret compartment of a lead-lined metallic suitcase that appeared to be filled with journalist materials. He was able to get into the press conference by using his former contacts in DNN to obtain a journalist pass a few days before taking over DNN Jubilife's office and a few weeks before the assassination. The Judicial Police is currently taking steps to prevent such a catastrophe in the future.

The Royal Inquiry into the Hostile Terrorist Takeover of the Disparu News Network Office in Jubilife, or RI-HTTDNNOJ, has gained much headway into the investigation and has successfully identified and traced the people who were responsible for the takeover. So far, only St. Danoche has been detained, though RI-HTTDNNOJ's investigators are attempting to locate St. Danoche's accomplishes. Meanwhile, the Royal Inquiry into the Eterna Stock Exchange Terrorist Attack, or RI-ESETA, has made some headway to its investigation. While it has successfully reconstructed the event, it has only confirmed the involvement of two people that may have contributed to the attack. The first person is Marc Devost, a security guard formerly working for the ESE. He failed to show up for the ESE Administration's staff roll call following the attack. It was first suspected that Devost died in the attack, but his body was never found in the rubble, so the Judicial Police took the liberty of raiding his reported place of residence. The place had been abandoned by Devost, though it was filled with incrimination evidence about his membership in the FLQ and some information about his role. The second person is Louis Achin, who used to work for the city of Eterna's emergency broadcasting office. He was responsible for making the city's public broadcasting system play Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture on the night of the attack. Like Devost, his place of resident was empty but contained incriminating evidence. So far, the Judicial Police is attempting to track down these men, so if you have any information about them, please do not hesitate to make an anonymous tip. RI-ESETA is also currently investigating another conspirator, a man who pretended to be a broker who may have secretly planted bombs in the Exchange over a long period of time with the help of Devost.

Also, RI-ESETA has been given a week before the Exchange's rubble will be completely cleared. The Government has announced its intent to construct a memorial in the place where the Exchange used to stand. The memorial will feature a large pool that will follow the base of the Exchange building. The pool will be depressed into the ground and will have waterfalls on its sides. The names of all those who died during this crisis will be written along the pool's edge. An information board will also be set up nearby that will explain the crisis's events to readers. A statue of Cynthia Celeste will also be set up near the pool.

Speaking of Cynthia Celeste, the New Parliament Building's administration has announced that it will convert the Press Conference Room, the place where Miss Celeste was assassinated, into the late Chancellor's tomb. The Room will be renovated within the next few days so it can accept the Chancellor's body when the time comes. According to them, the Chancellor's sarcophagus will feature a full-body effigy of the Chancellor wearing her trademark clothing. She was wearing the same clothes during her assassination. The press conference room, meanwhile, will be moved to another, more secure location within the Building. The Government has also announced that, following the Sarnungian Republic's decision, it will enact the fourth of August as the Day of Mourning to commemorate those who have died while holding public office.

"That wasn't what I meant. I was actually thinking about a setup like the one you described. Anyways, we wouldn't mind compatible trains, however, keep in mind that we also maintain compatible rail lines with J Andres, though in this case we do not screen passengers that much due to our treaty and cordial friendship. As for the second part of your message, we are actually designing our rail network with elevated rails, so we probably won't mind the cost."

The Government of Disparu,

RECOGNIZING and ALARMED that there are no protocols in place to assure that order and justice will be upheld in the event of the Government's collapse;

DEFINING 'collapse', for the purposes of this Order, as the physical dissolution of the majority of the legitimate Governmental institutions within the Federation of Disparu (henceforth referred to as "Disparu"), such as the Federal Government and the Provincial Governments, and/or the loss of authority of the aforementioned Governmental institutions;

HEREBY grants the Maritime Republic of J Andres (henceforth referred to as "J Andres"), as well as all of J Andres's main successor state(s) (for the purposes of this Order, the 'main successor state(s)' will be defined as the state(s) that transfers the Good Neighbour Treaty from its predecessor), authority over the territories, airspace and waters of Disparu, the Disparuean Forces, Government assets (both civilian and military), and any remaining Governmental institutions. The aforementioned entities will be required to cooperate and submit to J Andrean authorities in the event of the Government's collapse.

This Order shall be suspended if the Good Neighbour Treaty is suspended or cancelled, and will only be resumed if a treaty equal or greater than the Good Neighbour Treaty is signed with J Andres or its main successor state(s).

The Government will be required to reassess this Order every three months in order to determine if J Andres is still fit to assume authority over Disparu in the event of the Government's collapse. The Government may also choose to reassess this Order at an earlier date if necessary.

If J Andres is no longer fit to assume authority over Disparu in the event of the Government's collapse, the Government may choose to repeal this Order or transfer it into another allied state. For the purposes of this Order, 'allied state' will be defined as a sovereign state that has a treaty equal or greater than the Good Neighbour Treaty with Disparu, and has the ability to project its power and sovereignty over Disparu in the event of the Government's collapse.

Darach Park upgrades

The City Council of Jubilife has announced its intent to scrap the planned war memorial in Jubilife's Darach Park, to the surprise of city residents. In exchange, the Council will be expanding the Park's open spaces and will construct a new attraction to the Park. The new attraction will be a series of museums featuring various topics, such as Natural Sciences and Air and Space. The museum buildings will be built along the road that leads to the Museum of Disparuean History. This, of course, also means that the road will be expanded to accommodate the projected amount of visitors to these museums. The museums are expected to be finished within a year, though in the meantime, the museums' newly-created administration is looking for artifact donors and sellers.

Labrador referendum finalizing its results

Today is an exciting and historical day for the people of Labrador, for today they are conducting a referendum that will determine the future of their land. Voting in Labrador's various precincts have been peacefully and efficiently performed within the last few hours, and now Elections Disparu's voting computers and staff, as well as various independent groups, are tallying up the referendum's results. We are still waiting for voting machines in some parts of the protectorate to transmit their results, especially in areas such as Churchill Falls and Sheshatshiu, though 92% of the machines have already transmitted data to Elections Disparu's servers.

Here is a brief summary of the referendum to those that are just tuning in. This is essentially a referendum that will determine the status of Labrador and its people. There are three choices in here; the first is to join Disparu as a territory, which has more rights, privileges and responsibilities than a protectorate. The second is to form its own independent nation, which is still getting a lot of votes even though the failed Republic is still fresh in everyone's minds. This one was actually added recently after a group of local residents and officials signed a petition and sent it to the Protectorate Government and the Federal Government. The third is to maintain the status quo, meaning that Labrador will continue to be a protectorate. Approximately 82.7% of eligible voters turned out for the election. To our international viewers, it should be noted that all Disparueans, or Labradoreans in this case, above the age of 14 may vote, so this number will be large in proportion to the entire population. Each side had campaigned throughout Labrador for a week, starting enthusiastic rallies in towns like Happy Valley-Goose Bay and reaching out to apathetic and undecided voters through ads and campaigns. We are down to a few minutes until all of the results are all tallied up, finalized and released. In the meantime, I'll be interviewing a few Labradorean political experts for their views on this matter...

A few minutes later...

...polls have closed just a few minutes ago, and Elections Disparu is currently finalizing the results. Both Elections Disparu's HQ in Jubilife and their regional office here in Happy Valley-Goose Bay are working hard to release the results to the public as soon as possible. The media is currently being turned away by Elections Disparu to prevent them from distracting officials and volunteers. To our international viewers, this is just standard procedure and it isn't the Government trying to censor the media. Elections Disparu will be broadcasting the results to the public as soon as possible. You can see them as soon as they come out via Elections Disparu's website or through the DNN website. Alternatively, you can keep on watching. Anyways, as you can see here, crowds just outside the station are currently waiting for the results in anticipation. Let's interview one of them right now...

A couple more minutes later, cheering sounds can be heard in the background...

...we've just receive the results from Elections Disparu! They are currently being shown on your screens, folks...

As you can see, it was quite a close call. The sovereignty side won from the territory side by just a small margin of 2.9%. Anyways, coming back outside, you can see that there's mixed reactions about the results among Labradoreans. Some are currently rejoicing in the streets while others look extremely disappointed. The Federal Government will be releasing a statement soon, and over the next few weeks, officials from the Labradorean Government and the Federal Government to discuss Labrador's sovereignty and other issues. Once again, this is...

St. Lawrence Seaway expansion passes Royal Inquiry

The proposed expansion project of the St. Lawrence Seaway has finally managed to pass its own Royal Environmental Inquiry. Even though the project had mostly passed the Inquiry's regulations and expectations, there are still some areas of concern for it. For example, the City Council of Montreal has been concerned by the project's effect on the city's residents and their health. These issues are currently being addressed by both the Government, the City Council and the companies contracted for this project.

Now that it has passed the Royal Inquiry, it only has one obstacle left in its path - the Commons and Senate of Disparu. It will require a supermajority vote from the Commons and a simple majority vote from the Senate before the project can be green lighted and funded. Even though it has passed the Inquiry, many political spectators are concerned that it will be shot down in the Commons and/or the Senate due to the recent actions of the Great Lakes Provinces to the west. Certain MPs have stated that they will vote against the project since the GLP might aid the FLQ terrorists currently rampant throughout Disparu.

Cynthia Celeste interred at Parliament

After lying in state at the Commons Hemicycle for the past week, former Chancellor Cynthia Celeste was finally interred at her sarcophagus in the New Parliament Building's former Press Conference Room after a simple ceremony. As Celeste was an atheist, her will stipulated that her funeral should not involve anything religious, such as rituals. This request, while met with disdain by Disparu's most religious and conservative groups, was nevertheless recognized by the Government. Therefore, only a short and simple ceremony commemorating her life was performed before being interred. Her will also stipulated that "no one of Drakorian or Texan descent should be allowed to attend." This may have been caused by her negative experiences with Drakorian and Texan journalists in the past. The Government instead opted to prevent all foreign dignitaries from attending (with the exception of those from close allies, such as J Andres and the US), citing "safety and security issues" and "unusual requests" as the reasons. In attendance were hundreds of officials from the Government, the Royal Family, and any foreign dignitaries that were allowed to attend.

"We would prefer it if the Order remained secret, for now." noted Minister Meridian during a secured video conference with the J Andreans. "After all, if the Disparuean Government did collapse, I'd doubt that anyone would question any of J Andres's military actions in Disparu, since both Disparu and J Andres have maintained an extremely cordial relationship for years."

Civil defence measures

In order to protect Disparueans in the event of a war and/or a nuclear strike, the Government has commissioned the construction of fallout and blast shelters throughout the nation. Each shelter will be equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies (such as gas masks, iodine pills, decontamination equipment, food rations, etc.) in the event of a strike, and will be able to fit a maximum of 150 people. The shelters will be mostly located in major cities such as Eterna, Jubilife, Quebec and Montreal, though some will also be located in more rural areas. To compliment this, the Government will also set up an early warning system that will compliment the emergency broadcasting systems currently in use. The new system will feature over-the-horizon radar, satellite-based technologies and more. The Government will also launch education programs to educate citizens about protocols that should be followed in the event of a strike.

Museum complex plans finalized

The planned museum complex in Darach Park has been recently finalized by the City Council of Jubilife. The currently-established Museum of Disparuean History will be closed and expanded into different museums specializing in different eras of history. The Museum's current building will be then converted into an institutional building that houses the museums' information services and administrative offices.

There are currently 14 museums planned for construction. When completed, these museums will be collectively known as the Darach Park Federal Academies and Museums.
Although President Johnson would not be able to pay his respects to Ms. Celeste because of his Texan birth, he sent multiple representatives in his absence. When asked about his opinion regarding the brothel status of Ms. Celeste, the President dismissed the claim as "whimsical nonsense."

Eterna liberated!

ETERNA, AL—Crowds can be found cheering throughout the city of Eterna today after it was liberated by the Disparuean Forces' Special Operations from the grip of the Quebec Liberation Front yesterday night. Eterna, which had been occupied by the Front for nearly two months, was finally liberated after Special Operations launched a coordinated and successful counteroffensive against the Front yesterday night. While the Disparuean Forces have refused to release details regarding their offensive, eyewitnesses state that a large explosion was detonated above the city before Special Operations troops swarmed into the city's outer fringes. The explosion reportedly took out most of the city's electronics, leading experts to conclude that a nuclear weapon had been detonated on that night. This event may confirm rumours that Disparu is, indeed, nuclear-capable, but the Disparuean Forces' Aerospace Command remained silent on this matter.

The city is technically still under lockdown as the military is still looking for suspected agents of the Front, but certain restrictions regarding civilians have been lifted, and they are now once again able to resume their lives before the takeover. Most of the Front's highest-ranking members were reportedly arrested last night, including FLQ leader Geneviève "Jay" Robertson. All FLQ agents were then promptly shipped to the Almia High-Security Penitentiary. They will face a trial before the Supreme Court, as their crimes were committed in two different provinces and they have committed crimes against the Federal Government, next week.

While a majority of the city is currently reveling, there are some who believe that the military's operation was too elaborate and unnecessary, and hoped that the supposed nuclear bomb was never detonated. A few fringe groups have also criticized the Government's liberation of the city, praising the Front as patriots and the Government has traitors. A few isolated riots have occurred because of this, but they were promptly taken care of by the city's restored police forces.

It will, of course, take weeks or even months to repair the damage that has been done to Eterna. Several districts of the city have been damaged by dozens of shells and artillery pieces, while several institution buildings, such as the Old Parliament itself, have been vandalized and desecrated. For now, members of the Eterna City Council as well as the Almian Legislature, which had been evacuated at the start of the Front's takeover, have returned to their posts and are quite happy.

Work on the Eterna Stock Exchange Memorial, which had been suspended following the takeover, has also resumed. Engineers and workers at the site are currently performing an inventory of all of their materials to make sure they are accounted for.

Montreal almost healed after the Great Lake Provinces' biological attack

MONTREAL, CO—Residents of Montreal, the largest city in Coronet, are beginning to return to their daily lives as teams from the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as a plethora of other institutes, finish up the cleanup of the city after the GLP's biological attacks. The formerly quarantined areas will soon once again be accessible to the public. Areas damaged by debris, shrapnel and the like have also been mostly repaired and will be reopened to the public soon.

The Government has issued an apology to the city of Montreal for failing to prevent the attacks and has promised to provide more funding for the city to erase all traces of the attack. Sadly, the lives of those who had died from them will never be restored.

The Ministry of Defence has also released a report that indicated that another biological missile from the Great Lakes Provinces was targeted at Quebec, but was shot down by Aurasphere, the Ministry's missile defence system, before it reached its target.

Reconstruction efforts in the Disparuean border going well

GATINEAU, CO—The reconstruction of damaged and/or demolished areas of border cities, such as Gatineau, are going well, according to a report from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development. The rebuilding was prompted after the Government reversed a controversial plan to convert the border towns into large military bases. The bases were meant as a first line of defence against the Great Lakes Provinces, but they were cancelled after a (now defunct) non-aggression pact was signed by the governments of Disparu and the Great Lakes Provinces.

The rebuilt cities' cores will be further away from the border in order to better defend them in the event of an attack. This will not be a problem in cities and towns that had been mostly demolished, such as Ville-Marie, but will be a problem in areas that had faced stiff opposition from the original plan and were largely untouched, such as Gatineau. For now, the Ministry has decided to destroy all bridges and roads leading to the Great Lakes Provinces, as well as set up non-intrusive defences (for civilians) in populated areas along the border.

Reaction from the citizenry have been largely mixed. Some are enthusiastic that they will be able to return to their hometowns, while some are disturbed by the fact that the Government is basically returning them to a frequent warzone.

Nation begins to return to its normal state as peace is imminent

JUBILIFE, CO—Earlier today, the Ministry of Defence, along with Chancellor Atkin, has announced that they will begin to lift security restrictions imposed over the entire country last month since "peace appears to be imminent in North America." The Ministry's statement cites the ongoing negotiations between the governments of Disparu, Canuckistan and the Great Lakes Provinces regarding the recent conflict in James Bay, the diffusing situation down south in the United States, and the recent liberation of Eterna as well as the dissolution of the Quebec Liberation Front as signs that peace is, indeed, close by. The military will, of course, continue to remain in high alert in the event of another incident in the region.

St. Lawrence Seaway expansion project finally defeated in Parliament

JUBILIFE, CO—As predicted by most political analysts, the proposal to upgrade the St. Lawrence Seaway, which would make the entire system, which connects the Great Lakes to the Atlantic, more accessible to larger ships was finally defeated in Parliament today. While support for the proposal was originally high from both the Senate and Commons, support immediately dropped when the Great Lakes Provinces sparked a series of events that soured relations between the two nations. The bill has gone through several changes to make it more favourable for Disparueans, but was still defeated after a large majority of the Commons voted against it. The proposal to connect Disparu's rail and highway systems to the Great Lakes Provinces' have also been shot down.

Darach Park Federal Academies and Museums finally completed and opened

JUBILIFE, CO—After months of hard work, Darach Park's complex of fifteen museums were finally completed and was officially opened a few days ago after a spectacular ceremony. The complex, known as the Darach Park Federal Academies and Museums, are now open to the public and feature a diverse collection of artifacts and the like. Attendance to the museums have been extremely high within the past few days.

New biological facility opened in Black Mesa

BLACK MESA, NV—Today, the Ministry of Science and Technology has announced that it has opened BSL-3 and -4 facilities in the famed Black Mesa Research Facility in Nunavik. The new biological facilities are equipped with the latest and state-of-the-art equipment in order to aid the facilities' staff in doing research. The facilities are determined to continue Canada's legacy in the field of medical research, and has vowed to continue looking into possible cures for the world's diseases. The facilities are also planning on doing research on other biological fields.

Order of the Committee awarded to four more people

Jubilife's Château Jubilife, the official residence of the Monarchy.

JUBILIFE, CO–The Order of the Committee, recognized by the Government as the highest civilian award in Disparu, was awarded to four prominent officials today by His Royal Majesty Lance Pikachurin during a spectacular ceremony in Château Jubilife.

The Order, which had only been awarded prior to McHortons CEO George Sparks for refusing to move his company to a now-defunct capitalist nation based in Mexico, was awarded to the following: Kirk Sweeney, former J Andrean ambassador to Disparu; Evelyn Chapman, former Disparuean ambassador to J Andres; Terry Palkia, former Minister of Defence and current Deputy Minister; and finally, Wallace Muddkip, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Deputy Minister. The Order was awarded to both Sweeney and Chapman for their “critical role in the cordial relations between J Andres and Disparu,” and to Palkia and Muddkip for their “critical role in the negotiations between the Disparuean Federation and the rogue, anarchic state of the Great Lakes Provinces, and for their great service to the Government.”

“My, I don’t know what to say,” said a tearful Sweeney “I don’t really deserve this, you know?” he joked, wiping a few tears from his eyes.

The ceremony at the Château consisted of the entrance of the Monarch, the four new recipients, and high officials of the Government, followed by a speech from HRM Lance I, the presentation of the Order’s insignia to the recipients and their ceremonial knighthood by His Royal Majesty, speeches from the recipients, and finally a closing speech by Chancellor Atkin. The ceremony was followed by a lavish supper at Parliament, consisting of three courses: appetizers, the main course, and dessert. The meals served were all traditionally considered Disparuean and J Andrean.

The Order was established in 2009 by the Disparu Committee, the committee responsible for the rise of Disparu after Canada’s collapse in 2006. The Order, originally designed to commemorate those who have played an important role in Disparu’s creation, it was soon expanded to honour those of outstanding merit and those who have made an outstanding effort to improve Disparu or the world in general for the better. The Order is presented by the Monarch, and currently has a total of five inductees. The Order’s motto, per aspera ad astra (through hardships to the stars, in Latin), perfectly sums up the Order’s noble purpose.

The dissolution of J Andres – how will it affect us?

MONCTON, GA–J Andres, after having existed peacefully and stably for many decades, was finally dissolved a few days ago by former J Andrean Prime Minister Richard Mercton. While political experts and analysts are still struggling as to what exactly caused the Maritime Republic’s downfall, most of them agree that the dissolution will severely affect Disparueans for the worst.

For example, J Andres and its predecessors (New England and the Federated States) served as Disparu’s main trading partner for nearly all of its existence since the ratification of the Disparu Act (the act, confirmed by both the former Tahoe Republic and Kingdom of Viniland, that ensured the sovereignty of lands informally governed by the Disparu Committee prior to its dissolution). The effects of the economic void formed by J Andres’s collapse is already evident throughout the nation; the Disparuean dollar’s value has dropped significantly, foreign trade has gone down, the stock market is reeling after many companies lost access to southern markets, and the price of imported goods are slowly rising. Despite attempts by the Government to control the situation, such as enforcing price limits, it has begun to receive angry complaints from various Disparuean groups and the public in general. It appears as if the Empire Party, along with Chancellor Atkin, may begin to lose support from the public and lose in the scheduled 2015 federal elections. The Communist Party, headed by Francis Roy, has begun criticizing the Government for its ‘careless assumption that J Andres would last forever’.

Border residents along Coronet and the Gaspésie have also begun to note the increasing amount of troops and Border Services Agency (BSA) officials within the vicinity; both have not been stationed in the border for nearly two years due to the now-defunct Good Neighbour Treaty. According to both residents and Government reports, border checkpoints, offices, fences and ‘basic defence structures’ are currently being built along the border. The Government claims that such structures are ‘indefinitely necessary’ due to the ‘uncertain status of the former provinces of the Maritime Republic.’ Effects of the Maritime Republic’s dissolution, in terms of civilian mobility, can also be seen elsewhere; roads leading to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are now blocked by border checkpoint and military outposts; the same can be seen in rail lines that used to cross freely through the border.

There is also the issue of the four former J Andrean provinces, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland, which have voted to join the Federation. For now, the Government has unified the former Maritime provinces into the Protectorate of Greater Acadia, with its central government seated in Moncton. It will be, of course, subdivided to four administrative regions–Acadia (New Brunswick, based in Fredericton), Île Saint-Jean (Prince Edward Island, based in Charlottetown), Nouvelle-Écosse (Nova Scotia, based in Halifax) and Terre-Neuve (Newfoundland, based in Grand Falls-Windsor).

The Protectorate Government will have a triumvirate at the top–an Executor (responsible for executive branch), Praetor (responsible for legislature) and a Magistrate (responsible for judiciary). Below them are the three branches of government–the executive ministries, responsible for day-to-day affairs, the elected Legislature, responsible for passing laws, and the judicial Protectorate Court, responsible for various judicial functions. Greater Acadia will be able to send eight observers to the Federal Parliament of Disparu. While the governments of each administrative region will mirror the protectorate’s government, the government at the municipal level will continue to use the system set up by J Andres to ease the transition from the Maritime Republic to the Federation. The Government has also begun to transform various government departments, institutions and agencies set up in the protectorate, as well as other government-related things such as currency, to further ease the transition.

Throughout Greater Acadia, melancholic bands and orchestras solemnly played the J Andrean anthem, Our home, our land, as the familiar golden anchor flag was slowly lowered from their flagpoles. They were soon replaced by the Unity Flag, the Disparuean flag representing unity between the English and French, amidst the tune of Gens du Pays (People of My Country), the Disparuean anthem.

For now, the Government is currently planning on holding a referendum throughout Greater Acadia to see if the individual regions should be accepted as territories of Disparu (the protectorate must first before become a territory before becoming a province). While support for this appears to be high throughout the protectorate, it appears as if people in Disparu proper, specifically Coronet and the Gaspésie, are opposed to the protectorate joining the Federation, fearing that Greater Acadia’s dominant English culture will dominate the French culture firmly set in place in those provinces. For now, only the Îles de la Madeleine (Magdalen Islands) have been incorporated as part of Disparu proper, and has been added to the Gaspésie. These islands were originally part of the province during the time of Canada, but soon became part of New England, and eventually, J Andres. Strangely enough, the islands were not handed over to the Disparuean Government even though the Gaspésie was.

Government websites reallocated

JUBILIFE, CO–The Ministry of Science and Technology, on behalf of the Government of Disparu, has announced that it has reallocated the Government’s various websites to make them more accessible to French speakers. The websites originally used English URLs, such as the Chancellor’s (chancellor.gd.dp), even though the sites themselves were bilingual. From now on though, a separate French website will exist for most components of the Government. For example, the Chancellor’s new French website is chancelier.gd.dp.

New version of the $200 bill issued by Bank of Disparu

The old $200 bill (left) and the new bill (right).

ETERNA, AL–The Bank of Disparu, along with Minister of Finance Aaron Yvonne (EP) has announced that it will introduce a new version of the DP$ 200 bill and phase out the old version. The old version, which contains a picture of former Legislative Triumvir and disgraced Democratic Party leader Spencer Fowl, has been considered by many, including the Ministry, as not being significant enough. Therefore, the new bill will contain a picture of the Honourable Lynneth Sarkara, leader of the Saborian Revolution, father of Saboria and communist Canada, and first Chairman of the aforementioned states. For the time being, the old version will remain legal tender until the Bank manages to recover at least 95% of the old bills and destroy them. In the meantime, Disparuean banks and other money-related institutions will be required to hand over their old bills and only use the new version of the bill by next month.

Global Research: a rising institution in Disparu

MONTREAL, CO–The Center for Research on Globalization, more commonly known as Global Research or GR, is a Disparuean think-tank based in Montreal that is perhaps best known for the controversy it has created regarding some of its articles. Despite this, as well as its young age, the Center is definitely proving itself to be a force to be reckoned with in news and current affairs, both at home and abroad. Since its inception, it has featured many articles regarding issues throughout the world; said articles have received lengthy letters from intellectuals throughout the world, such as one coming from Dr. Mao Fucao, a professor of International Relations at China’s Peking University. The Centre has also interviewed many high-ranking officials throughout the world, and prompted articles from many intellectuals, such as Professor Christopher of Harvard University. The increasing popularity of Global Research, as well as the alternative views it presents, has prompted many Disparueans to donate to it. “I believe in the power of free journalism; that’s why I donate and support the work of Global Research,” noted Leroy Angélil of Montreal, a fervent supporter of the Center’s work.

PRIVATE

In his office in the Parliament building (Ursalian surveyors had given up the search for a suitable residence in Kamloops and decided upon a course of building a brand new one in the capital), Prime Minister Giancarlo Norton was sitting at his desk, reading government telegrams, reports, and dispatches when an aide carrying stacks of newspaper entered the office.

Looking up, Norton smiled. "Ah, you can place them at my desk." He indicated to his desk, of which the aide nodded and placed the newspapers on the Prime Minister's desk. When the aide bowed and left the office, Norton decided that it was now time for a break (after all, he had been working all day since the early morning). Standing up, the Prime Minister walked toward the coffee machine and made himself a cup of coffee. On his way back to the desk, Norton picked up a few newspapers.

Leaning back on his desk and crossing his legs, Norton leafed through the newspapers. Finally, he settled on one, his favorite newspaper, the Disparu News Network. Scanning the front page, Norton frowned as he felt sympathy for the Disparueans, who had been experiencing some hard times due to the collapse of its beloved ally, J Andres. Sipping his coffee, Norton went to thinking. What could he do to help Disparu? As a private citizen, he'd always admired Disparu and felt something of a connection with them. He did not know why, but he's suspected that it may have something to do with sharing a common culture and history with the Disparueans - after all, Ursalia and Disparu occupied part of the lands that had been historically considered as Canada.

Despite his, and the Kingdom's, commitment to diplomatic isolation (after all, he was too aware of the inherent dangers of having too many treaties!), Norton reckoned that he could help Disparu out, further diplomatic relations, and perhaps sign a treaty of some kind.

Finishing his coffee, Norton picked up his phone, a special connection linking his office up to the office of External Affairs Minister Celso Amorim. "Sir, put a dispatch to the Disparuean Government. I want you to..."

A message was sent to the Disparuean Government. It read:

TO: Whoever it may concern
FROM: Celso Amorim, Minister of External Affairs of the Kingdom of Ursalia

Greetings,

Given the recent events that had taken place, particularly the collapse of the Maritime Republic of J Andres, which we are aware was your great ally, it had been brought to the awareness of the Ursalian Government that Disparu had been undergoing difficulties. As the Kingdom of Ursalia shares a common history and culture with Disparu, it would be anathema for us to stand aside and do nothing to help a fellow nation out.

With all said, we are wondering of whether we can place investment into your country's economy. Likewise, our markets are open, and you are free to establish business in the Kingdom. To put it simply, we are offering to establish trading relations with your fine nation, and we hope to further relations with you.

With the highest regards,
/s/
Celso Amorim,
Minister of External Affairs
