OOC: You defeated Rotterdam. My team hasn't even played yet.

OOC: I apologize. My team and yours were both left out because we'll be playing each other in the first round. I don't know why I forgot both of us.

IC: We apologize to the Fasci Empire, but all slots have been filled hours ahead of schedule.

The heavily-favored Il Duces, already having won over the crowd just a week earlier with the bonus victory against the Rotterdam Eagles, came out in style: a 98-yard opening kickoff return. The Tri-City Markhours responded with a strong running drive but were unable to capitalize. After a punt, Il Duces running running back Don Corleone (OOC: :awesome: ) fumbled the handoff and the Markhours picked it up and ran it into the end-zone for their only touchdown until the fourth quarter. Il Duces wide receiver Vito Victoria responded with a brutal 44-yard strike just moments later, giving Il Duces a 14-7 lead in the closing moments of the first quarter.

A lackluster second and third quarter set up a 17-10 showdown in the fourth. With the lead, Il Duces turned on the running game to eat away at the clock - unfortunately, most of the runs were for big gains and the strategy destroyed itself. They gained a touchdown quickly, 24-10. The Markhours fumbled the kickoff - recovered by Il Duces, who ran down the clock to 2:14 when they kicked a field goal.

"Il Duces, Il Duces!"

With the crowd firmly in their pocket, Il Duces started off brilliantly. Blitzing on the first play, they sacked the Markhours QB Asif Musharaf. Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there. Musharaf, on the very next play, heaved the ball 81 yards - caught for a touchdown. 27-17. The ensuing kickoff led to a three-and-out by Il Duces, who ran out all of the Markhour timeouts. From 7 yard line, Musharaf marched his team down the field in a two-minute drill and threaded another touchdown in with thirteen seconds remaining. 27-24. Onside kick - recovered by the Markhours! On the final play of the game, Musharaf heaved a 62-yard pass over the heads of four Il Duces defensive backs, straight into the hands of a waiting receiver, who fell into the end zone. 27-31. With one second left, the return by Il Duces fell short and they were eliminated from the qualifying round winner's bracket. However, because of winning the 'bonus round', they are applicable for the Loser's Bracket Qualifying Game to advance to the regional tournament.

NATION: The Fasci Empire

TEAM NAME: The Fasci Caesars

OFFENSIVE/DEFENSIVE ORIENTED TEAM: Offensive

STAR PLAYER: Linebacker Toni Merkens

Nation: Palintine

TEAM NAME: Shangahi Tigers

OFFENSIVE/DEFENSIVE orientation: Offense

STAR PLAYER: Smart Quarterback Xu Jun

Fortunately for both the Fasci Empire and Palintine, the tournament rules clearly state both brackets must have equal sides. With the addition of the Louisiana-Carolina game, it has come to our attention that we need to add another game. Both of you have been accepted and been scheduled for a later game.

When asked about his victory, Asif had this to say:

It's really amazing. I mean, coming from the underdogs and doing what we did today was simply awesome. The Duces are a great team, and they should really be proud of how they played. We got a couple good throws off, and I really need to hand it to Randall [wide receiver Randall Lichen], he really got where he needed to be and was the driving force in our victory. We just need to keep up the energy as we go and we can make it far.

Qualifying Round

Il Duces - Tri-City Markhor

27-31

(see last page)

Seattle Seahawks - Northern Bears

45-7

In an overwhelming display of total domination, the Seattle Seahawks ran it past the Northern Bears through the air and over land. Gathering 552 total yards and only letting up 141, the Seahawks cemented their claim as the favorite team for the tournament.

Prussian Packers! - Calgari Stampeders

3-42

The Calgari Stampeders, who played a variant of Louisianian football in their own country, seemed to effortlessly glide into the new rule set. Playing like veterans of the game, the Stampeders showed the Packers! why they lost their 'bonus' game - they were unable to contain the dominating offense of the Stampeders. Forcing 4 interceptions was the smothering Stampeders defense.

Languedoc Eagles - Osea Wardogs

10-6

In this unusually defensive matchup, the Languedoc Eagles gathered 310 yards through the air but were unable to perform where it counted: the end-zone. Fortunately, the Wardogs were just as inept in scoring and Languedoc escaped with the win.

Yuktobanian Comets - Brisbane Steelers

7-21

The Brisbane Steelers, favored for their size and ability to control every aspect of the game, set up a low-scoring paddling of the Yuktobanian Comets. Led by an aggressive offense and the highest-rated defense of the tournament, the Steelers limited the Comets to 110 total yards.

Defiant Archdukes - Winnipeg Wildcats

24-20

The Defiant Archdukes continue to win close, this time with a two-touchdown comeback against the Winnipeg Wildcats. The game was filled with six fumbles and two interceptions, but when they weren't handing it over they were scoring.

Yobushaits Eku - Molakian Ravens

21-22

The Molakian Ravens were rated to have the number two defense in the league pre-game, but now that estimate has been shaken. The Yobushaits Eku controlled every aspect of this game - but in fourth overtime were unable to convert a two-point conversion.

Greater German Eagles - Alvonia Falcons

10-12

Defence, Defence, Defence. Both teams played great Defence here, not scoring until the second half and even when they did so it was five field goals and only one touchdown. Thankfully, four of those field goals came for the Falcons who escaped with a win against the experienced Eagles.

Rotterdam Eagles - Iron Dragons

13-10

In a highly-expected matchup, both teams seemed like they were playing their worst. Incomplete passes, fumbled handoffs, fourteen total penalties and no timeouts used by either side made this insanely sloppy game impossible to call. After missing his first field goal, the Eagles kicker batted it in with the closing seconds ticking down, sealing a win.

Fasci Caesars - Shanghai Tigers

55-56

Defence? OFFENSE! The Shanghai Tigers and Fasci Caesars both put their offenses on the field total in a no-holds-barred match which totaled nearly 1400 yards! With 512 yards through the air alone, the Shanghai Tigers got the upper hand with a field goal in the waning seconds.

New Orleans Saints - Carolina Panthers

24-23

In this unusually destructive game, both teams came out with four minor injuries! The two played exceedingly well until the fourth quarter, when neither team could advance past their thirty yard line. The Panthers were unable to take advantage of several New Orleans turnovers and advanced to the loser's bracket.

Wildcard Loser Game

Carolina Panthers v Il Duces

TBP

Loser's Bracket:

Carolina Panthers v Fasci Caesars

14-10

Iron Dragons v Greater German Eagles

14-10

Yobushaits Eku v Winnipeg Wildcats

15-12

Yuktobanian Comets v Osea Wardogs

0-21

Prussian Packers! v Northern Bears

2-3

For Wildcard Slots:

Il Duces v Osea Wardogs

28-12

Northern Bears v Yobushaits Eku

3-3

Carolina Panthers v Iron Dragons

28-15

Carolina v Il Duces - Wildcard Game

// One point? ... //

Karad Agal strained in his bonds, and sat in his own stream of sweat as he tried with all of his might to break the chains, but it could not be done. After a minute of attempts he stopped and sat back into the seat of the car, in a motion accepting his fate. He started to hear the wild, almost bestial cheer of the crowd around him, but he only lowered his head in shame as we watched the obscene machinery of an antiquated tank start somewhere behind him.

In a manic burst the crowd cheered as the tank drove past Karad's car in full speed, only to turn and idle for a moment. Time seemed to slow for him, and tears started to well as he thought of his failure. But as he did the crowd started to laugh at the sight of a pitiful looking Karad Agal. The machinery of the tank started again, and it started to become wider and wider in the view of Karad, until it encompassed his entire sight. Karad then just lowered his head, but as the tank mounted the engine section of the car, and the windshield shattered, he looked up again to see that it had stopped. And a voice proclaimed to him as men walked to the car to undo the chains

"You have lost a game, but you did not fail us in the next two games, do not fail our nation again."

OOC: Well...that's cruel.
