I dunno, having the AA of NPO is probably a reason for Sparta to attack him(Karma War, attention to global politics, you must pay it). He even admitted he was ghosting, so your requests for an apology will fall on deaf ears. As your arguments are flawed

Well...uhhh....surprise!? They probably thought it was better than wasting resources and ZI'ing him for a joke they didn't find funny. Which of course would also cause an elongated thread such as this Probably Clearly RV didn't think enough about it then. Perhaps Sparta thinks sanctions can be used for more than nuke rogues and aid scammers. It saves the need to go around blasting people if all you want to do is send a message to them saying "stop it" I couldn't care less if they retain the top spot, or if they don't. I just don't think the actions taken by Sparta are as awful and unjust as you are making out.

Maybe RV should've thought about this before hand perhaps? If he cared so much about his circle, he wouldn't be taking the piss with the number 1 alliance in the game now would he? He got a fight, he also got a sanction. Fair enough, though it would appear our perceptions of which is worse (sanction or ZI) are rather different.

So, destroy all of his infra, leave his nation in ruins. YEAH! Sanctions!? Think of the trade slots! THINK OF THE TRADE SLOTS! Methinks someone has their priorities all wrong, or you're lying. They probably didn't think about it prior to this. RV should've thought about it. Like I said, his trades are not concern of Sparta. They offered the temp trades likely to save face because you all caused a massive fuss about something so trivial.

I'm aware Sparta should have thought about them, but RV's trade partners are of no concern to Sparta, they should be his concern and his alone. They have offered temp trades after the sanction was placed, so they have thought about it. There's no sense in them getting bogged down by the endless trivial details or nothing will ever get done.

I'd put money on the fact that is he were sentenced to ZI, there'd be the same uproar, you'd just have different reasons to argue why it's so bad. If he were ZI'd you'd all be crying, "That's really harsh, looks like Karma hasn't changed anything, he was only joking etc. etc." Here we have everyone shouting "But what about his trade partners! Why not just attack him?" Or perhaps it's RV's fault he got sanctioned. He did something stupid, He knows he did something stupid, You cannot deny that he is fully aware of the fact that his actions would hold certain consequences. Surely if he actually gave a damn about his trade partners he would think before doing something as stupid as this. As Sparta clearly weren't going to ignore this.

They could just attack him endlessly wasting resources on him. Or they could give him a short sharp response by sanctioning him, letting him know they aren't taking this nonsense from him. Besides, what's so awful about sanctioning him? It's not like they're sentencing him to ZI. P.S It's hard not to include swear words

I would like to suggest the following reason (this is mere speculation) Spartans in need of targets attacked RV due to his AA being switched to NPO, with Sparta being at war with NPO this is reasonable, and there is no way to spin this. Not everyone reads the OWF so it's not possible for all of Sparta to know he was only joking around. RV makes this post with the ultimatum to Sparta. Sparta is not amused at RV's antics and sanctions are placed to essentially say "Oi, you, cut it out, you're not funny at all, this is not the time to be arsing around, there is a war on for god sake" Which to be honest is pretty reasonable(as far as I am concerned), I don't care how popular RV is, you don't go pulling this kind of stupid stunt in a war. It was clearly done to cause drama, because he's not being serious, and he doesn't actually care this much. It's all a charade. Also, Sparta have offered temp trades to the trade circle affected by the sanction, so they are taking into consideration other factors. They're just essentially showing their distain for this kind of behaviour. While there could have been better methods for doing so, Sparta chose this one. As I said at the beginning, this is just speculation, this may be incredibly far from the truth, but it's how I perceive this situation.
