1. Personally, I did not see much truly 'clumsy' diplomacy afoot this week. None more than there is any other week. The only truly notable demonstration of clumsiness this week was Kevanovia's merge offer toward the Guru Order. Though I hold no particular love for either The Legion or the Independent Republicans, their actions essentially amount to treaty cancellations. These happen every week. Every day, rather. The latter's cancellations were notable for being numerous and fragmenting what is commonly referred to as the ex-Hegemony, but it is neither better nor worse than the norm. ...Actually, I suppose it was better for giving us something to marvel at for a minute or two, but that's beside the point. Other than that, it has been business as usual.
2. Further away, atop a high, distant mountain was rooted to its a peak a tall, contorted oak of twisted branches that writhed outward toward the surrounding white horizon in every direction. Upon one of the higher ones sat Lezrahi, leaning his shoulder upon the lively wood. His right eye was hidden by the sniper scope attached to the long rifle in his hands, and his left ear was completely blanketed by some sort of mechanical device that looked surgically attached to his skin. It and his face were mostly hidden in the dark shadow of his long, brown, wavy hair. Through the scope, he spied a man that he did not know. What data there was available indicted that he was a cyborg known only as a seemingly-incomprehensible series of characters: "dvdcchn." What the man's make and model was, Lezrahi could not determine with the current data alone. But it appeared that the cyborg acted as some sort of spokesperson for the Independent Republic of Orange Nations. As if to confirm this, the man stepped up to the public podium and held up a datapad, which he began to scrutinise. It did not take long for him to begin speaking in his semi-mechanical, yet remarkably human voice. The device on Lezrahi's ear tapped into the cyborg's voice processor and delivered to him the contents of the announcement. Lezrahi raised his eyebrows behind his hair. It concerned treaties to be canceled, and not only were they numerous, but comprised of several well-known and, in some circles, highly regarded names. Immediately, he suspected an ulterior motive. But he was not one to seriously consider conspiracy theories most from the time. Either way, it was bold; very bold indeed. He lowered the rifle, letting it rest upon his knee, and in that moment, a small gust of westerly wind blew his hair from his face, revealing completely the mechanical left side of it. The photoreceptor that was his left eye 'blinked' its shutter in tandem with his still organic right one, and he averted his gaze from the public, neutral ground district, toward the west. As the gust subsided, he detected a distinct, mysterious aftersmell, one that he knew well. He smiled.
3. Lezrahi shook his head. Abandon the prospect of making your own alliance for now and join a larger one before you are raided by either my alliance, or, more likely, the Goon Order of Oppression, Negligence, and Sadism. Do it now.
4. [OOC]I will be able to help once I obtain a new keyboard, which should arrive in around four to seven days.[/OOC] Are you offering anything in compensation?
5. Lezrahi looked puzzled. [OOC]The writing of Fan-Fiction is considered taboo? I was not aware of this. I, too, partake in it from time to time. So does my girlfriend. We do not base it on Harry Potter, but it is Fan-Fiction, all the same. I suppose that it would be distasteful if it exhibited the failure levels of My Immortal (not to be confused with the Evanescence song, though that is its namesake), but I am fairly certain without looking that Xiphosis is much better of a writer than that.[/OOC] How stupid. It appears that both parties made/are making an issue of something that was hardly damning in the first place.
6.
Drama is an inherent part of this game while I can't name a specific occasion that is perfectly like this off the top of my head, I can sure think of a lot of times that an alliance has had stuff similar to this happen, and its been dealt with poorly. It doesn't represent some grand problem though, it just proves there are human beings in the alliance, and not gods.
However, in most instances where a single disgruntled exile reports the inadequacies of a larger collective to the international community, they are typically ridiculed, brought even lower, and dismissed almost universally. This appears to be one of the few exceptions, where support and opposition are more or less equally divided. It is during these instances that it is wise to consider the possibility that the collective is plagued by more than common human error and that the exile is perhaps someone to be listened to. Concerning this case, it would appear that The Legion may be imposing undue punishments upon its own members not befitting their "crimes" and only practising selective enforcement of its own Code of Conduct, both of which, at best, suggest internal corruption, and at worst, confirm it.
7.
Legionnaires will always follow the orders of higher ranks unless they violate international codes of conduct.
Lezrahi nodded slowly. All right, Arbiter. Fair enough. Except... Taking into account your already-publicised and admitted-to propensity for racial outbursts, not only to other Legionnaires, but toward those part of other alliances, I find you to be in violation of The Legion Code of Conduct. By the Code's context and wording, lmcfalcon12 was in complete keeping with the Code because he refused to follow the orders of a Legion official who violated international codes of conduct. I hereby recommend that The Arbiter be stripped of his ranking and reeducated in the proper behaviour that Legionnaires are expected to uphold.
8.
I don't think a man can stand when his ego weighs so heavily on his back.
Lezrahi raised his eyebrow, blinked several times, cleared his throat, turned, and walked away.
9. Lezrahi bowed low, smiling. It was a great pleasure, mate. Godspeed. \m/
10. We at the Alliance Relevance & Competence Evaluation Company™ are grateful to see that the Red Elite Defence alliance has taken something out of our notices and warnings. However, according to our records, RED has yet to pay the fees outlined on our previous billing notice to them, delivered 27 days ago, on 2nd June, 2010. Failure to comply within the next three days will result in an increase in the fees, which carry a monthly interest rate of up to 200% of the base cost (the actual percentage being determined at the discretion of ARCEC). In addition, RED will also be charged with a weekly payment of two McFlurries (one Oreo, one M&M; for a total of five weeks) to be delivered to the ARCEC Director of Oversight and Communications for the Chief Executive Officer of ARCEC to steal and hide within his compartment during the nighttime hours (next to the stored sandwiches). These terms are non-negotiable. Please do not send complaints to \m/, ARCEC's parent company, as they will be met with a 12-gauge round to the face. Have a nice day. Thank you for choosing the Alliance Relevance & Competence Evaluation Company™. Lezrahi, Chief Executive Officer of ARCEC D3filed, ARCEC Director of Oversight and Communications
11. Lezrahi smiled, applauding the passage of time. He knew that he had made the correct decision to board the Holy Shortbus from which the \m/uggers reached out to choke all !@#$%*es and claim their valuables. This was something apart from the norm for him. This was home, after months of wandering through endless sand, among cold, dead tree, and across frozen ocean, all under unmerciful sky devoid of Sun, Moon, or distant Star. It was finally over, and he was complete. He bowed his head in reverence, a gleaming golden chain grasped in his left hand, and a bleeding machete in the other.
12. Lezrahi shook his head, and sat down upon a stone in the grass, an incredulous look upon his face. I believe that the Mushroom Kingdom has won: the efforts of the Alliance Relevance & Co\m/petence Evaluation Company™ could not have been this successful. I admit defeat. Lezrahi took his hat off and brushed his hair out of his face, yet did not put it back on. Instead, he let it fall to the grass while his eyes stared at the sky, gleaming, as if he had been shown the light.
13.
Dear ARCEC biller, you neglected to add the tax to the bill amount, in its own separate heading. I am sure you do not wish the Cybernations Fraudulent Acts Prevention and Monitoring Agency [CNFAPMA] to send you notices regarding that. We will let it slide this time, in the spirit of inter department cooperation and coexistence.
We're sorry, but "Cybernations Fraudulent Acts Prevention and Monitoring Agency" does not appear to be a registered trademark. Therefore, the Alliance Relevance & Co\m/petence Evaluation Company™ does not recognise CNFAPMA policy.
14.
Who/what is RED?
Point thoroughly made.
15. Notice to the Red Elite Defence Alliance from the Alliance Relevance & Co\m/petence Evaluation Company™ Here at The Alliance Relevance & Co\m/petence Evaluation Company™, we have multiple values that we expect other alliances to uphold, those being relevance, competence, and respect. Until now, we have been satisfied with the efforts made by alliances all across Digiterra in upholding such standards, and our presence has not been necessary. Unfortunately, over the last week, we have discovered that one Red Elite Defence alliance has repeatedly breached the minimum ARCEC criteria through such offenses as recruitment from other alliances, insulting our organisation, and undergoing unacceptably slow growth in all areas. Our attempts to notify RED of these issues have been met with a general lack of tact and courtesy. It is for these reasons that ARCEC is inciting its billing rights and demanding a sum of 100 units of Technology—or a Technology deal at a rate of $15 million per 50 units (for a total of 100 units), with ARCEC selling—from RED as compensation in good faith. ARCEC also demands that the collective nations of RED change their Alliance Affiliation to "Grand Global Alliance." Signed, Lezrahi, Chief Executive Officer of ARCEC D3filed, ARCEC Director of Oversight and Communications Hiro Nakara, ARCEC Chairman of Human Resources
16. An...interesting turn of events. The actions of Celestial being have spurred a small movement, it seems. Still, I am afraid that I have little more to say than I have already in CB's announcement. This will not be the last time that an alliance abuses the power that they (think they) have. Thus, I give credit where credit is due in regard to the thought behind the action; come the time when a larger, more imposing and intimidating force employs similar policies however, I expect CB, Nebula-X, and other like-minded alliances not to forget their own stated values. The Grämlins are weak now. Others will not be. That is all. Godspeed. \m/
17. I believe that The Grämlins have far overstepped their sovereignty. That known, I personally applaud Celestial Being for this gesture. I do not believe that it is entirely in line with an objective of peace, but it is more of a contribution than any other alliance has demonstrated. Be that as it may, I share some of Marx's skepticism: The Grämlins deserve all that has come to them, but at the same time, they are already dying, and have been since the end of the previous war. It is a unique stance, but there is little overall use for it, morally or materialistically. The point is already proven: The Grämlins encroached, and they must face the consequences. Celestial Being does have potential as a white knight. This is not an ordinary course of action in the name of justice, and, effective and/or meaningful or not, it is a refreshing take. I am afraid that, if you wish to prove both yourselves and the validity of your causes, you must take such stances against the actions of foes that are not already falling. I willing continue to watch you, if only out of passing interest. Godspeed to you. \m/
18. Lezrahi looked saddened. Ahhh, I suppose it was predictable that even a memorial thread such as this would devolve and revive bitter rivalries. Too much to hope for the reverse, it seems. I implore you all...remember what this thread is for. Vox Populi made their point and their mark. Some still disagree that it was as significant of a mark as is ordinarily thought...or that Vox existed for the reasons that many of its members would assert. But it has apparently left enough of a mark to be remembered, and remembered positively. And that should be enough. I cannot speak for Voxians...but such would be my attitude regarding a hypothetically successful movement that I, myself, was a part of. Remember it, and remember it well. That is why this thread exists.
19.
There was no "greater sacrifice", it was a political struggle to unseat the current group in power to put another group in power. Nothing more. (OOC: There are no true moral crusaders in this game. However, NPO does and did have a thing for making a lot of enemies, so it certainly gave such a movement fuel, but only for the political cause of unseating them.)
A...questionable assertion, but one that is understandable, looking at your position. But may I ask which group you refer to? There can be no doubt that Vox Populi was no great military movement, and never was. It should be remembered that it was vocal. Vox did not overthrow the Hegemony. But gradually, it did make the world understand exactly what the Hegemony was. Would the Continuum have fallen when it did if not for Vox? Personally, I do not think so. I think that it would have taken far longer had the revolution never began.
20. I...do not know what to say... Except...thank you. Thank you to Vox Populi for all that you have done, and for everything else. Thanks too, to Kent, for reminding us all. I shall remember Doitzel's words, and that I do promise.
21.
Hahaha....I like how NSO is the world's defender from evil. The Sith, ever-vigilant good guys of planet Bob. Keep up the good work, fellers.
There is no emotion...
22. This ship could have avoided that savage ocean if it had stayed in the Port at Ragnablok. But, I suppose that it is a lesson well-learned. Godspeed, ERA. You have my well-wishes. /me bowed.
23.
So you speak for all? Congrats. And the answer is no. Has any other alliance achieved anything better than 243 nations in 5 days? Mabye they are just deserving of some recognition.
If I remember correctly, both The Order of Light and the FOK!-Alliance had an even faster growth rate during their early days. But yes, this is still rather impressive. It is a massive influx of nubs, though. Let us hope that the two nations at the top can control them effectively. And, while I am always looking for new raid targets, the truth of the matter is that these nations are far too small to be worth raiding, and even if they were, I am fairly certain that there are no charters belonging to raiding alliances that would allow a mass raid of an alliance of 243 nations anyway.. So, there's not much of a debate here.
24.
You don't know the first thing about a Sith. We frankly don't give a crap about a lot of alliances. Yours is one of them. We were about to give a !@#$ a while back when we were making arguments against Polar, but that's all over now and we went back to not giving a !@#$ about you. Or your opinions. So you can make whatever benighted comments you want about the Sith, but the fact of the matter is that you are still ignorant because you are detached from reality. And don't forget, you people started this little pissing match first by preying on our allies. If you want to stop, then just get out or make civilized arguments instead of your usual impudent !@#$%^&*.
The Sith is a belief. And frankly, you do not believe. That is the reality.
25.
No, you don't actually. And the NATO thing is actually a lot funnier if you know the real story.
[OOC]Okay, I'll admit it, I am not as familiar with this as I should be. I am open, though. If you feel like taking the time, feel free to PM me and give me a small history lesson.[/OOC]
