The Bastion of the Pacific: part one

"Starboard, ten degrees!" The King breathed in the fresh air of the blessed islands as the trade winds whipped up the banners of his flagship into a frenzy. It spiritually rejuvenated him to return to these islands, his sovereign kingdom, his mighty people. He felt as if the mighty rock of Diamond Head was slowly approaching his ship, and its beauty and majesty was a humbling reminder that God, and not himself, was the true Father of his people. He frowned. The True People would only hold dominion over these islands so long as they could hold them. As his flagship docked, and he descended the steps surrounded by his elite royal knights, two entire royal regiments on either side of his walk came to attention. Their wide-brimmed white helms sparkled in the morning sunlight, each topped by a steel spear-point matching the shining bayonets they held upright, and their crisp blue uniforms formed a vast sea of discipline and order, holding back the forces of chaos and decay. They were the finest of his people, the clean-cut Soldiers of God and Nation. Beyond the ranks of the Nation's Finest, mingling with the sounds of the sea and the shouts of sergeants, his precious people awaited him, joyous to see their King returning in health and victory from the latest negotiations with the foreigners. At the end of the vast lines of soldiers, their commander saluted the King and offered him and his knights their horses which they would ride directly to Iolani Palace. As the King and his knights rode he thought about the challenges the Kingdom was facing abroad. Though these islands might already be besieged by foreign degeneration and the ravages of capitalism, the King thought to himself, within this Kingdom remains the old chivalry and honor... for a little while longer.

The Techmarillion Part 1: The Music of Admin

There was Kevin, the One, who in CN is called Admin, and he made first the moderators, who were offspring of his thought, and they sang before him, and he was glad. And they created a music that began with each moderator alone creating a tune, and it joined together as a great music, and the music went forth into the void, and it was not void. And soon, the Nation Rulers came into the song, and the Light of Admin filled the void and gave it substance. And all the Nation Rulers that are, and were to be, were all there, existing before memory and time, each contributing according to his own nature. And the music was harmonious, and it produced Order. And in the music there were no flaws. And before them came images of the treaty web, and alliance sovereignty, and the Casus Belli, and to most this seemed fair and wondrous, the creations of Order. But as the theme progressed, it came into the heart of Cubaquerida to interweave matters of his own imagining that were not in accord with the theme of Admin, for he sought to increase the power and the glory of the part assigned to himself. To Cubaquerida among the Nation Rulers had been given the greater part of power and knowledge. For it was that desire had grown hot within him to bring into being thoughts of his own. Some of these thoughts he began to weave into music, and many around him grew despondent and faltered, but some began to join in his theme. Then the harmony of Order was broken, and the sound became turbulent and Chaotic. And while the music of Order was still harmonious, and deep and wide and slow, but the discord of Cubaquerida and his followers was like the braying of trumpets, few in note but loud and terrible. And it attempted to drown the music of Order in the violence of its voice, but its most triumphant notes seemed to be taken by the music of Order as its own. And like a vision of horror the Nation Rulers saw before them themes of Chaos, and the breaking of sovereignty, and the rejection of the Casus Belli, and the image of Tyranny. But not all thought it was horrible. And Admin stopped the music, and saying to the hosts "Mighty are the Nation Rulers, and mightiest among them will be Cubaquerida, though he will only reveal his power after many ages. "And Thou Cubaquerida, you will see that your theme has its utterest origin in me, and your countless donations and parasitical actions will only prove to be mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful." And Cubaquerida was filled in shame, from which came secret anger.

Playing to win

How many people in government, or who have previously been in government, actually play to win, using strategy to consolidate power? I've noticed a tendency of people becoming senior government and simply freezing themselves in position, opposing any sort of ambition. I think part of this problem is that OOC/IC lines have become blurred and people are afraid of being considered "power hungry" or overly ambitious. For my part, I have no shame in craving power in an IC fashion. According to my ideology, there is nothing wrong in consolidating power within your alliance, so long as the alliance benefits as well. I wonder how many people tire of the arbitrary parliamentary rules of inefficient democracies, and on the other hand, the deadlocked bureaucracies of the autocracies. If you feel that opportunism and "playing to win" is an important part of the game message me privately. Whenever you are in an environment of risk-adverse politicians, a solid network of ambitious individuals will carry a cutting edge advantage. PM me.

Foreign Affairs Primer Part 2

Foreign Affairs is the best part of CN. Beginning as a diplomat, one can establish global networks from ones position representing the alliance. With time and skill, you can eventually help control the events and happenings of entire alliances. Foreign Affairs staff A good foreign affairs staff is both hierarchical and collaborative in nature. Although sensitive matters are generally handled by high government, the rest of the foreign affairs staff is equally important. An active and coordinated FA staff communicates the activity, pride, and literacy of an alliance. Diplomats are a bit like spies. It is the diplomat's job to collect open source information from the alliances they visit, and develop relationships among members of the host alliance. Through these relationships the diplomat can gain more valuable information. Thus, a good diplomat is able to report back well composed information and analysis on their host alliances. A very good diplomat will even be able to analyze less tangible information and attempt to derive the mood, ambition and motives of members within the host alliance. Thus, by presenting a well organized alliance dossier, higher government can act on the intelligence to maximum effect. Foreign Affairs goals An alliance always has two goals: to defend a strong position, and to attack the weaknesses in rivals. In other words, an alliance should first ensure its position is strong: that it is well protected by allies, that there are no internal compromises, that there are no reasons for casus belli against it. With this achieved, it can go on the offense, seeking to advance its political agenda and cripple a rival's one. The the alliance foreign affairs staff must communicate to reach a higher collective understanding. Even the information itself can be used to assist allies or be traded for other information. Understanding the global political atmosphere is most important. By understanding global politics, we can always prepare ourselves for the coming storms of war. Foreign Affairs leadership Thus Foreign Affairs staff are the most important element of an alliance's government. Having the strongest military in the world is of no good if your position is such that it is rendered ineffective. Foreign Affairs staff provide the true leadership in an alliance where the traditional leadership is uninterested in global affairs, and it is these alliances that need foreign affairs leadership the most. Treaties are one of the most important jobs of the FA leadership. The FA leaders must determine which treaties are beneficial to the alliance, and which ones are not. This analysis must first be rendered on existing treaties, and as relationships with host alliances develop, the analysis must be rendered to determine the value of a potential new treaty.

Favorite Quotes on Righteous Order

I recommend enjoying the music in the video while reading these quotes. “Seeing the glass as half empty is more positive than seeing it as half full. Through such a lens the only choice is to pour more. That is righteous pessimism.” Criss Jami "Far better is to have a stout heart always and suffer one's share of evils, than to be ever fearing what may happen." Herodotus “Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.” Edward Abbey “Chaos was the law of nature; Order was the dream of man.” Henry Adams "A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves." Lao Tzu "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18 "Unity gives strength and assures success." Haile Selassie I "The skillful tactician may be likened to the [snake]. Strike at its head, and you will be attacked by its tail; strike at its tail, and you will be attacked by its head; strike at its middle, and you will be attacked by head and tail both. Asked if an army can be made to imitate the [snake], I should answer, Yes. For the men of Wu and the men of Yueh are enemies; yet if they are crossing a river in the same boat and are caught by a storm, they will come to each other's assistance just as the left hand helps the right." Sun Tzu "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." Nelson Mandela “The harder the conflict, the greater the triumph.” George Washington "What is good? All that heightens the feeling of power, the will to power, power itself. What is bad? All that is born of weakness. What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome." Nietzsche "I am making superhuman efforts to educate this people. When they have learnt to obey, they will believe what I tell them." Mussolini “No man is a man until he has been a soldier.” Louis de Bernières "Art is not a mirror to hold up to society, but a hammer with which to shape it." Trotsky "True stability results when presumed order and presumed disorder are balanced. A truly stable system expects the unexpected, is prepared to be disrupted, waits to be transformed.” Tom Robbins “A man who has been through bitter experiences and travelled far enjoys even his sufferings after a time” Homer "We live in a society obsessed with public opinion. But leadership has never been about popularity." Marco Rubio "He who has never learned to obey cannot be a good commander." Aristotle “Traditional hedonism...was based on the direct experience of pleasure: wine, women and song; sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll; or whatever the local variant. The problem, from a capitalist perspective, is that there are inherent limits to all this. People become sated, bored...Modern self-illusory hedonism solves this dilemma because here, what one is really consuming are fantasies and day-dreams about what having a certain product would be like.” David Graeber "What we need is an enthusiastic but calm state of mind and intense but orderly work." Chairman Mao "Just do what must be done. This may not be happiness, but it is greatness." George Bernard Shaw "Pardon one offense and you encourage the commission of many" Pulibius Syrus "When I give a minister an order, I leave it to him to find the means to carry it out." Death Note

Not really into anime most of the time, but Death Note is an interesting series available on youtube. Anyone who thinks allowing absolute power to be concentrated in the hands of one man, regardless of how "good" or "just" he is, should check it out. I've gotten to episode 7 and so far the series is about two very intelligent men: One receives a magic book of death, and one who opposes him. The first episode.

CubaQuerida interview commentary

I'm going to briefly analyze the relevant portions of CubaQuerida's answers to Lord Hershey's answers. I took a look at our collection of semi-organized, underachieving nations and sat them all down after our most successful set of wars in history. I then said to them, “We’ve stopped being a rogue group no one understands. We've become something unstoppable. We have become a Community.” This paragraph on DBDC's series of raids throughout the Mushqaeda and Disorder war reveals his interesting perspective on the success of his "wars." It also is a revealing glimpse at his lack of knowledge and experience in CN politics, and perhaps reflects the words of the sycophants whispering words into his ear. The God Emperor's hubris and political inexperience may someday cause much heartache amongst the inexperienced upper tier nations he has been recruiting/impressing into his service in alliances like NEW and SPaTR. We are not some fascist dictatorship or a rogue state. We make all of our decisions after close consultation with Troy (Artigo) and Abed (TBRaiders), and Annie (Tayloj) always lets us know if we are acting too much like jerks. For general decisions, everyone has a voice, even Pierce (Christian Trojans). We don’t like IRC, it’s antiquated and unreliable, like Leonard. We use Skype as it is the way of the future, and we’re pioneers like that. No one has ever complained that our attack sequences were too slow. I have used teamspeak while coordinating real-time actions in other games, but that does not mean it is useful in CN (not on the strategic/political level anyway). The use of older, slower forms of communication fit the pace of CN better in my opinion, as actions are mostly only executed once a day. There is no need for voice communication because one's hands do not need to be free to fly/coordinate units or what have you in CN. Your words not mine, Dean. Just because we do it well and make it look sexy while doing it doesn’t mean people aren’t going to try and hate us for being good at what we do. We have some of the smartest minds in the game in our alliance and there’s absolutely nothing we’re doing that everyone else hasn’t either tried to do or wanted to do. We just do it the best. Again, a fundamental misunderstanding of politics in CN. Intelligence and aptitude in one area (nation growth) does not generally translate to competence in politics. Otherwise, CN alliance leaders would all reside in the top tier only (but exactly the type of hierarchical wealth based society some would like DBDC would love to create). I’m not going to get myself all worked up because someone I barely know thinks I’m too powerful and wants to see me and my friends rendered useless or stripped of our ability to fight. Seriously, you can attempt to modify the game all you want, we will find a way to do it better than you and you’ll just feel even worse when you still can’t get the better of us. Oh, the hubris God Emperor. Of course, poor Cuba is being manipulated by the many losers of the last war fellating him for his support. A politically inexperienced man suddenly ushered onto the "throne" by sycophants is not a good recipe for stability. Stability comes from cooperation within a unified political system of equals (like Polardoxia), not a hierarchical society of manipulators and deceivers bowing to one man (like the Empire of Moo was).

How DBDC wants to structure their New World Order

This pyramidal structure quickly explains the "God Emperor" CubaQuerida's plans for world domination. Whereas the Revolutionary Order Party seeks a politically based, egalitarian model of world peace, DBDC craves the power of subjugation and hierarchy. DBDC, lead by CubaQuerida, endorses Doomism, a cult-like agenda determined to enslave the lower-tier nations of the world. It recognizes the threat posed by an egalitarian revolution-inspired Polardoxia which defeated Neo-Imperialism in the Disorder War, as well as Neutrals and volunteers who united to defeat Lulzism in Mushqaeda. Throughout both wars, DBDC has raided countless nations, exploiting flaws in the upper tier of the game system. Through these flaws, CubaQuerida is able to deliver massive levels of damage to nations hundreds of thousands of Nation Strength below him. He seeks to exploit the resentment among recently defeated Neo-Imperialists to build a huge army, and is forcing large numbers of innocent upper tier nations into his service, as revealed by UnknownSmurf recently. Once Polardoxia is defeated by his Henchmen, he will be able to bring neutrals under his rule, and nobody will stop him from building his permanently fixed, Hierarchical New World Order. By permanently subjugating the Nations to tier-based classes, his counter-revolution will be complete, and the fun we all enjoy in CN via politics and diplomacy will be gone forever. Note: This was a paid advertisement from the Revolutionary Order Party and does not necessarily reresent the views of the Lannister News Network.

LNN two-part analysis of the peace agreement

The Lannister Factor is on! Tonight: Emperor Farrin finally sees reason after defiance! But why are NG and NoR still at war? Tonight we will tell you in a no-spin zone talking points memo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aloha, I am Tywin Lannister, and thank you for joining us tonight. Emperor Farrin of the New Pacific Order surrendered today as revealed by Yerushalayim of Sparta. The terms he finally yielded to are not far from the ones he originally objected to so vociferously: Of course as our viewers are aware, the Emperor was simply bluffing when he demanded white peace and white peace only. A while back LNN revealed statistics showing NPO had not suffered the same comparable reduction as other core alliances. NSO coalition was fracturing and although Farrin tried his best to break the will of the Coalition and obtain a coalition white peace, his side broke first and surrendered by front after a month. Steve Buscemi was one of dozens who criticized the determined strategy of the Coalition, saying it came out of a book "written by Ramirus, with a foreword by Tywin Lannister." This is because while in high govt, on Dec 20th I approached Steve Buscemi myself to deliver my terms for negotiations to occur: Now while this angered a few people in the coalition, it set the record straight: The Coalition would fight until the war was won beyond the shadow of a doubt. A coalition white peace is not a victory. This brings us to the subject of tonight's talking points memo. Two alliances still remain at war in the NSO coalition: NG and NoR. Intel has reached Talking Points that NoR refuses to surrender to at least "The Order of the Reaper," aka Disciples of Destruction over bad blood in the past. Ironically, it would seem NoR had recently tried to hold NPO hostage the same way Farrin tried to leverage better terms for NPO. Of course, Farrin was too smart to fall for his own trick. The folks know whats going on here. Nordreich is simply being stubborn because they are too good to surrender like all those other alliances. Of course, with the NSO coalition all but a memory, more pressure will be brought to bear on Nordreich and Non Grata until they finally yield. Nordreich still hopes to break the will of the coalition alone, but if NPO cannot achieve it over peace mode terms, NoR cannot possibly do it over a white surrender. Nordreich, it's time to see reason like Farrin, bend the knee and end the war. And thats the memo. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is Neo-Imperialist Moralism? A Factor Investigation Thank you for joining us tonight. This is the first time in our networks history that two episodes of the Factor have covered the same thread. In fact, two episodes were necessary because of the critical role NPO's surrender plays in world history. Whereas our previous episode covered the events running up to the war's ending, this episode will focus on what follows; specifically, what the false moralism prevalent throughout the thread means for future relations. Now as our viewers know, this war was revolutionary in nature: it not only struck down nations, but it struck down ideas. It was a much different approach to warfare than the Equilibrium war. A member of Valhalla recently criticized the war for the way it unfolded: With all due respect, Lord Levistus, this war was completely different in design than Equilibrium. Brehon relied on a reactionary approach with his coalition against Umbrella. It is easy for that sort of war to start well because everyone sees the objective. Fighting Mushqaeda went along similar lines, reacting to and containing a situation which everyone could see happening. The approach in this war was reversed: It began as an idea within a small group of people, and was slowly and carefully spread and implemented. When the hammer blow came, it was quick and decisive, and a quick look around revealed that resistance was futile. This is the higher form of warfare, but also the one most difficult to implement. This could be considered a revolutionary war from some perspectives, since it essentially toppled the hegemonic culture of white peace. With MK out of the way, along with their dominant ideology, this war became possible. This brings us to the main point of tonight's show: moralism in the context of neo-imperialism. Not long after the announcement was posted, Pacifican members and apologists hysterically attacked the morality and honor of the Coalition, and Sir Paul even invoked the Bible: Now the folks know what is really going on here. Pacifican demagogues are trying to rile up the people and are hinting at punitive reparations in coming wars. Of course these pompous myrmidons forget the fact that there were no reparations in the terms, and they simply targeted the upper tier Pacifica attempted to hide in peace mode. Of course as the Factor revealed weeks ago, NPO is in no position to ride the moral high horse. NPO had pushed for even harsher terms in the equilibrium war! As Crownguard pointed out in the thread, NPO and her foederati palls are using moralism as a cloak for revenge. The Coalition did not apply terms to Pacifica for petty emotional reasons: NPO represented a threat in the short term with their top tier nations untouched with peace mode. NPO had to be removed from the political equation as long as her allies are, or the war would be pointless. Good wars are not about revenge, but rather preserving (or establishing) stability. Pacifica's Neo-Imperialism, however, remains a potent threat to said stability. After recently traveling to Francograd myself and confronting their modern ideology (and a dragon), it left no doubt in my mind that much work needs to be done to bring Pacifica back into the international community. When the Mad Emperor Moo gutted the Praetorian Guard in 2007-2008, it strayed NPO from her original goals with the Hegemony and towards imperialism. This was reflected by their aggressive wars and EZI policies, which would eventually lead to their downfall. Thus Neo-Imperialism is simply their ideological desire to return to Moo era imperialism. With all the inherent contradictions within the philosophy it is no surprise that they turn to turbid moralism in an attempt to sway people to their "cause." Until their sickness is cured, however, they will continue to blunder while pursuing raw ambition and revenge, aided by the myriad useful idiots who support them "morally." This is a wake up call to the world: The war may have ended well, but never lose vigilance in the face of an enemy who refuses to capitulate and continues to saber rattle after defeat. But it also reveals our responsibility to change their policy direction and teach them how to learn from their past mistakes. Pacifica may think her worst enemy are those who imposed the terms, but in reality, it is her own adulation for her imperialist past.

The Tywin Factor: Monday News Roundup

Tonight on the Factor! The NSO Coalition shatters! After months of tough talk GATO, ODN, TLR surrender! What this means for the future of NPO. Also, the Revolutionary Order Party -- and a rival -- announce their existence. Thank you for joining us tonight on the Lannister Factor. Over the course of the last month, the Lannister Factor projected that the NSO coalition would shatter if Polar coalition showed unyielding resolve. As expected, the NSO coalition has finally cracked, so far seeing three core alliances surrender. Unconfirmed reports from within Pacifica indicate confusion at the apparent backtracking from Emperor Farrin's earlier bravado. The Factor will soon invite Emperor Farrin to an interview to better serve our audience. We will keep you informed on this. This coalition political victory coincides with the formation of the Revolutionary Order Party and the publication of its Cybernations Little Red Book, which the Party calls a "living document." With its core of Vladimirist-Francoist ideals, it seems to especially target alliances with a history of or a desire for the efficiencies and wonders of Stability with Order characteristics. In a future segment we will take you on a tour of the party and introduce you to some of the people who are working towards a better future. Interestingly, Yolo Swag created the "Entropic Reaction Party" which mock-imitates the ROP. In other news, Franz Ferdinand, whom we had interviewed previously, has formed a new alliance. The Lannister News Network wishes him the best and has learned that the Revolutionary Order Party will be happy to lend advice and assistance to Franz in his endeavor. We also want to wish the best for the GOP who celebrates their fifth year on CN! This fine neutral alliance militarily assisted in the Peacekeeping effort against lulz Mushqaeda terrorists. Fine forward thinking alliances like these help keep the peace for All Nations and should be commended.

Talking Points Memo: Farrin's PR offensive

The Lannister Factor is on! Tonight: Emperor Farrin remains defiant in the face of defeat! Why prolong the war and refuse to negotiate? Tonight we will tell you in a no-spin talking points memo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aloha, I am Tywin Lannister, and thank you for joining us tonight. Emperor Farrin of the New Pacific Order launched a PR offensive today with an aggressive OWF post accusing the Coalition of obstructing peace. Now as you know this wasn't the first time Farrin has been combative during ongoing negotiations: Interestingly enough, Farrin begins his address by saying his alliance values it's foederati allies. This seems to be an acknowledgement that NPO's obstructiveness continues to be very harmful to Pacifica's friends. Let me ask you something Mr. Emperor: If you entered the war to defend NSO's interests, why don't you cooperate and negotiate in full faith rather than extending the war. Of course, from here the address illuminates little in the way of Farrin's true intentions, and instead devolves into a sea of bloviating: Now as you know Pacifica has not been reduced to the same extent NSO, NG, or TLR has. Two weeks ago we revealed that in an LNN exclusive: Despite the facts revealing that NPO has not suffered comparable reduction, they continue to bring up irrelevant NS numbers despite the fact that much of the NS was generated via cheaply purchased <1000 infrastructure purchased for nuclear warfare. A more genuine measurement involves meaningful statistics that indicate combat effectiveness, but of course Pacifican spinsters won't use those. The peace mode terms are fair and invite an alternative: NPO should commit their nations hiding in peace mode like their core allies have. But of course, the oppositions Grievance Industry are quick to label these terms "reparations:" Of course this is just silly. Reparations involve wealth redistribution from the defeated to the victors. Of course these are just more talking points attempting to distract the folks from what is really going on. Farrin wasted a golden opportunity to make positive overtures to the coalition and embrace negotiations, and instead decided to utilize colorful propaganda to sway the opinion of the public. Indeed, his defiance has likely made his allies position worse: Do you really expect people to believe this, Mr. Emperor, when the language of your announcement is so bombastic? I think it's reasonable to assume based upon this latest address that NPO wants a long war. Which is fine with the majority of the folks. Turning this war into a long term Stability Operation could be considered a good thing from some perspectives. But of course the PR hustlers will continue to paint the war as a "war of aggression." Talking Points agrees that Farrin should take a public stand on the issue, but the degree of vitriol used is counterproductive and makes the Emperor look like a curmudgeon. It is time for some straight talk, and I hope the Emperor is listening tonight because we need him to take leadership on this issue and begin negotiating in good faith, for peace. Stop pandering to the pundits and act in a responsible manner. And that's tonight's Talking Points Memo.
