The right wing Conservatives and Progress Party have agreed to form a government following the post war elections in Norway. The Red-Green coalition consisting of the Labor, Socialist Left and Center Parties have combined for 69 seats in the Sorting. The Conservatives came in first place overall, narrowly beating out the Labor Party with 51 seats while their coalition partners the Progress Party has won 41 seats for a strong third place showing. The Christian Democrats round out the Sorting with 9 seats. Erna Solberg is expected to be asked to form a government by His Majesty the King, while the outspoken leader of the Progress Party, Siv Jensen is expected to be offered the post of Foreign Minister. This is the first time in Norwegian history that the two most powerful leaders are women. Interim Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was widely criticized for offering amnesty to leaders of the military coup that threatened to send Norway spiraling into a civil war. Concerns over immigration and the welfare state, both amplified by the current recession in Norway, also helped drive his Labor Party to a historically poor showing. Quote
