Many thanks to IRON and especially to The Warrior for the honourable way in which peace negotiations took place. The terms or should I say lack of terms are quite fitting under the circumstances of this war and a magnanimous gesture on the part of IRON, they reflect the spirit in which the war was conducted. Also my respect to our friends and allies in Sparta for their part in facilitating this accord. OcUK have been pretty much just going through the motions since No CB, but we survive as an alliance mainly due to being too stubborn to die. Whether this continues is a debate for us to have another day. Today we celebrate peace.

Nice to see you are still about. I have enougth to get by for a while. And you are correct we did not have to do this, so far NpO have chosen not to activate the defensive clause in our treaty, they had been made aware that we were available to honour the treaty if required. Sparta also did not activate our MDoAP they just asked if we wanted to come out and play. Why would we not? As did I ;)

It's so difficult to keep up with politiks these days. I do believe we declared the first war and fired the first shot against them. I was just tardy with the announcement. But hey ho it is up now.

You are right to challenge those that speak without knowing, some may have had a different experience with GOONS than I, but I speak as I find. The facts are quite simple here, there was an unprovoked war on OcUK, there was retaliation against GOONS in defence. The defenders were engaged by GOONS. The GOONS response was measured and limited. The terms for peace that I required would have proved difficult for some that I have experienced in the past to countenance. The conversations that occurred in back channels between GOONS and I will remain as far as I am concerned private, as they should. However I will state that such conversations were civil, productive and concluded in good humour. As for any relationship now between OcUK and GOONS, speaking as a seasoned diplomat, who was once several years ago semi-important on this world, there are some fundamental differences in our philosophies that would negate any sort of close relationship. But I walk away from this conflict with respect for the GOONS leadership I spoke to and the GOONs nations that were engaged in the war.

I'll not speak for GOONS as it is not my place but will express an opinion as I am involved. Firstly in relative terms OcUK could not have done a lot of damage in the military sense to GOONS. What we can do and have a known history for is being an absolute pain in the ass for an extended period of time. You only need to look at the history of our war with RoK to see this. An alliance leader needs to be pragmatic in decisions with regards to war and peace, it is my view that GOONS demonstrated strong and pragmatic leadership in the terms that were offered to allow this war to end quickly. Each case needs to be assessed on its own merits.

The offer has been very kindly made. We are grateful but we have declined. Being unprotected suits us as we can respond to war with war as we see fit. One day if luck is on our side we will find someone to finally kill us off ;)

It would be somewhat disingenuous of OcUK not to. Peace is assured.

Hey you guys crack on with your other business as much as you like. OcUK and GOONS seem to have an amicable settlement so for me this discussion is done. My thanks to all in this thread that offered good wishes and support, my respect to those that see things differently. o7

I must say that this is a most respectful and honourable response and I believe that we have the makings of an accord. We may have a difference of opinion as to what constitutes "aligned", as to what constitutes "active" and as to whether there is in reality any difference between a tech raid and a war, but in this world we live in there will be differing views on such matters. There has been damage on both sides, but that happens in war. I feel no need to seek reparation and am glad that GOONS see it the same way. I will instruct my members to offer peace and if that peace is accepted or the wars are allowed to expire I am happy to consider the matter closed. Net gain to your raider, a bit of stolen stuff. Net loss to GOONS so far, neglecting the smaller stuff, 4 nations in nuclear anarchy. I guess the fun of this little war could be considered a benefit, but will it still be so when OcUK NS drops and we are nuking your lower ranks?

Absolutely, it all seems quite light hearted and reasonable to me, there is nothing to complain about as war is always a possibility on this world. I have nations capable of protracted war, not many but I have them none the less. Or we can have peace.

I have never claimed to be surprised. We respect the sovereignty of other nations, I am well aware that view is not universal. If white peace is not an option we are happy to remain at war. GOONS can call it how they see it.
