1. Today the whole nation has been swept up in a flurry of activity for the upcoming elections. Washington D.C. was the scene of a massive military presence as troops have begun creating checkpoints at all routes of entrance into the city. The Capitol Police Force has declared all of its officers on double shifts for the upcoming elections. While not as intensive many other major cities have also been areas of heavy activity as the preparation of poll booths and vote counting centers is under way. The Executive Council has released a statement on the matter: "We assure the people of the American Commonwealth that these measures are temporary security enhancements. Martial law has not and will not be declared, military forces are working in conjunction with local law enforcement officials. To our southern neighbors in the UVSR. We offer our assurances that military operations in Washington D.C are not an act of hostility or aggression, rather an internal security operation to maintain stability for our upcoming national elections." And the election campaign has fully started with Hugo Brown ( C ), the leader of the American Communist League, formally announcing his candidacy along with Maryland State Senator Mildred Baum ( R ) and Pennsylvania State Senator Johnny Young ( D ). Most analysts have concluded that Governor David Bronston ( I ) is the front running candidate and will most likely win the election.
 2. Washington D.C. The newly formed military of the American Commonwealth had not been fully reorganized yet but capitol defense forces had received the top priority for reorganization and equipment. The newly formed Capitol Defense Brigade consisted of three Infantry battalions, one armored battalion, an combat engineer battalion, artillery battalion, aviation battalion, service support battalion and a headquarters. Quite a bit larger than a normal sized brigade it's mission was probably more important than most normal military units. Defense of the capitol against all possible threats. The defense of the capitol was also augmented by two patriot missile batteries, a military police battalion as well as the Washington D.C. Military District Command HQ and one marine company stationed at the historic marine barracks. Air force units assigned to the capitol's defense included the former National Guard 121st Fighter Squadron flying the F-15C Eagle and the newly formed 39th Tactical Fighter Squadron flying the F-16D Flying Falcon. Maritime protection would be provided by four coast guard cutters and one squadron of 6 Pegasus class Hydrofoil Missile Boats. Orders soon came through for securing the city for the upcoming elections. Elements of the engineers and military police battalions made their way to the bridges spanning the Potomac and began to fortify the Commonwealth end. Hesco bastions were erected to create small checkpoint outposts and vehicle inspection areas. Jersey Barriers were deployed on the road to ensure compliance with vehicle searches. A visible presence would be maintained with dozens of troops and capitol police officers manning each checkpoint usually supported by a couple armored vehicles. Sniper teams would be perched on nearby rooftops to provide observation and support. NBC and bomb detection gear would inspect each vehicle along with search dogs. With MPs composing most troops at these checkpoints inspections would go smoother thanks to their community relations training. All major and minor routes into the city had a checkpoint established. The reason the D.C. Police were unable to fully man the checkpoints themselves was because they were conducting a massive sweep of the city. All officers were called to duty and the areas around polling sites and other important government institutions were searched for any possible threats. The air defense battalions were put on alert while fighter aircraft from Andrews AFB flew constant patrols over the city. This scene was replicated across the Commonwealth, although with less military participation. Major cities usually had some military assistance while less densely inhabited areas generally had none. Polls would be placed at public buildings such as high schools, libraries, sports arenas and any other area they could fit in. The elections were going to be held soon and things had to be ready.
 3.
It is the understanding of the Confederation that despite recent drilling efforts in northeastern Pennsylvania, your nation does not sit in a petroleum-rich area. We will be happy to enter a treaty of exchange of oil for tobacco, steel, and zinc.
On the contrary drilling and natural gas recovery efforts in the Marcellus Shale Formation have been highly successful. It is in fact a quickly growing industry that will assist in meeting our energy needs. However, you are correct in saying that the American Commonwealth possesses no notable crude oil reserves. As such most crude oil and petroleum products must be imported into our nation. With that being said we'd be happy to accept your offer of an exchange of goods through the Treasury Department's Trade Bureau which will put you into contact with domestic companies that are able to meet your needs. On top of that the federal government has decided it will be important to build up a strategic energy reserve and would therefore be willing to directly purchase crude oil from your nation.
 4.
Gallifrey would love to have an exchange of embassies. The Lord President will personally visit as soon as the forum is over.
While our government isn't fully functional yet such a visit would be an honor. Arrangements can be made for a tour of the nation, meeting with current political figures or whatever else strikes your fancy.
The Confederation of Κυκλοι recognises this new American nation and hopes they will be interested in exchanging goods by trade and embassies. The Confederation also wonders if the land of this new nation incorporates the city and surrounding metropolis of Washington.
We accept an exchange of embassies and would welcome a discussion of trade between our nations. To answer your question, Washington D.C. is a part of our nation. It is to be our national capitol.
The Northern Imperium recognizes the Commonwealth and wishes long life and prosperity upon the citizens thereof. We also wish to extend trade relations to the Commonwealth as well.
We thank the Northern Imperium and we are more than willing to enter trade and economic discussions.
 5. The executive council has announced that the national guard shall be hereby become the standing military force of the American Commonwealth. By executive order all national guardsmen shall be retained on active duty for the next 4-6 months to provide a stabilizing influence on the upcoming elections. They have also announced that the new military shall be restructured and constituted as soon as possible. In political news Governor David Bronston has announced that he is officially running for the office of the president. Following this announcement Hugo Brown, the leader of the American Communist League stated that he too would also run for the presidency. No other candidates have officially announced their intentions but chocolate industrialist Arthur Hershey, owner of the Hershey chocolate corporation, is rumored to be considering a campaign as well.
 6. David Bronston exited the car and looked up at the UN Building. He'd been to New York many times before, sometimes on business, sometimes on vacation. Mostly business, it seemed, and this was no exception. He didn't exactly want to be the one attending this summit. While honored he felt that he should still be back home trying to get everything ready for the upcoming elections. That he'd probably win anyway. Leadership wasn't supposed to be easy. Originally the plan was to take one car and three bodyguards to the forum but it broke down along the way. The radiator seemed to have burst and his security staff was going crazy over it. So they waited for an half an hour until a helicopter came to pick them up. They then flew in to LaGuardia after receiving clearance and after it landed a rented official looking car was waiting for him. Hopefully the return trip would be easier, he'd probably just take a commercial flight home. After clearing themselves with the forum guards, Bronston entered the main conference room while his escort moved off to the side room. It was fairly impressive both the room and the number of nations represented in one room. With that Bronston moved in to mingle with the crowd. Hopefully this would be more pleasant than most of the political functions he had to deal with in his 10 years of being a governor.

Please accept this request for embassy exchange & invitation to the American Forum where this momentous American Renaissance is coming together to realisation." Sincerely, President Ron Wilmington
We are happy and honored to accept this invitation and shall dispatch someone to attend as soon as we can. West Virginia was allowed to go its own way but has recently rejoined the Commonwealth since the collapse of the UCNA.
 14. I just have a couple of questions as I haven't done this junk in a couple months and stuff might or might not have changed. 1) I assume the tech scale is what is currently in the map thread? So having 50 tech I'd be utilizing 1984 technology? 2) Does someone specifically own the company Lockheed-Martin? I was looking at the list of fortune 500 companies to see what my economy could be built upon and I have discovered that LM is headquartered in Maryland, plus a bunch of other corporations in my nation I'd like to have. 3) I've always kind of wondered about the max troop limit in place for everyone. I'm not against it or anything but I'm wondering if those are just combat troops or if support troops are included in that? It seems most nations go with the latter case but I just want to clarify. 4) I know I don't have a navy but am I allowed to have patrol and missile boats? Stuff like this. I'm not gonna build a fleet of like thousands of these. Maybe a dozen or two. 5) Hopefully this doesn't sound stupid but In order to have an Air force do I have to actually buy one in game? I mean everyone gets 50 aircraft ig anyway so do I actually have to have them or is it just assumed.
 15. Today the Executive Council has announced that upon further review, Washington DC shall become the new Capitol of the nation citing an already developed governmental infrastructure as well as the historic and cultural significance of the city. Critics have pointed out that the city is directly on the border with a neighboring nation and is not an adequately defensible location. Several fringe groups have stated this is a blatant attempt to reform the old United States of America and the beginning of a New World Order which has been dismissed by government officials as "ludicrous". Nevertheless the state assemblies have approved this move. An announcement was also made regarding the creation of the new federal government. A new constitution has been ratified and awaiting approval. It establishes that the federal government shall be the sole central government of the American Commonwealth. It will be headed by an executive branch consisting of a president elected by direct popular vote from all citizens. The legislative branch shall be composed of the Senate (Upper House) and the General Assembly (Lower House). There will be 4 Senators from each state elected by the state assemblies. The General Assembly shall be elected by direct popular vote with one representative from each county within a state. A census shall be conducted every year in order to determine the voting power of each county which shall be based upon its population. Finally a federal court system shall be established to enforce and determine federal laws. In other news the state assemblies and executive council have approved an initial budget for the interim period between now and the federal government's creation. It has been announced that candidates for the upcoming election shall be announced soon. Many political pundits have stated that Pennsylvania governor David Bronston will probably have the best chance of winning with a strong political base in Pennsylvania as well as having an following in New Jersey. New Jersey Governor Paul Michelson has stated he will not run preferring his current job while the governor of Maryland, Alicia Worthington, has not commented officially on the matter but has hinted she also would not be running. Other potential candidates include Pennsylvania State Senator Johnny Young, Maryland State Senator Mildred Baum, noted communist activist and leader Hugo Brown and the former CEO of the Hershey Chocolate Company, Arthur Hershey.

 18. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Outside the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building a crowd numbering in the thousands surrounded the main entrance being held off by barricades and a heavy security presence of police and national guardsmen. There were also dozens of news camera crews reporting live for what was to be a major and historic announcement. A podium occupied the center of the stairs with a giant Pennsylvanian flag set up behind it. A man walked out of the building who was recognized as the governor of Pennsylvania, David Bronston. He was flanked by two more people; Alicia Worthington, the governor of Maryland and Paul Michelson, the governor of New Jersey. Governor Bronston approached the podium set up in the center of the stairs and began his speech. "My fellow Americans, today is a great day for the people of Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. It has been several weeks since we were granted independence by the Empire of Pravus Ingruo. Since then we have had a multi-state referendum to determine the futures of our respective states. Yesterday the votes were counted and the people of our great states have decided to come together in a show of unity and the hopes of a better, more prosperous tomorrow." A massive cheer erupted from the crowd that went on for several minutes before everyone started to simmer down and let the governor continue. "As such we declare to the world that the American Commonwealth now exists. It shall be formed in the spirit of freedom and democracy that has always been an American tradition. The proposal to create a central government is being worked out by the legislatures and governors of all three states. Until then Governors Worthington, Michelson and I shall run an executive troika until such time as a government is created. I truly believe this is the beginning of a new age for the people of the American Commonwealth."
 19. OOC: Ok, theres pretty much no way I'm going to have the time to conduct an intensive RP like this for the time being between freakin classes, studying and rotc. I will do my best to post small tidbits and be as active as I can but it will mostly be about the development of my nation rather than wars and crap. My appreciation and apologies to those who participated. This could have been great if I had been able to be more active.
 20. OOC: Good to see you guys kept this going in my absence. Sorry about the recent lack of posts. College kind of sucks out all the time. I should have time to make a good post tonight though.

She then stood quietly near the entrance of the HQ, waiting for Col. Telford's attention.
Colonel Telford was looking over his maps when a junior officer nodded over towards Colonel Verys. The Colonel walked over to greet the new arrival. Telford had just come off the front not two hours ago after nonstop heavy combat for several weeks. The last battle had also taken a heavy toll on him. As a result his uniform was disheveled, torn and dirty. He had bloody bandages on his arm and chest. The fatigue he was suffering from showed in his bloodshot and baggy eyes. Nontheless he had proven himself to be a superior brigade CO which was the main reason he got the job. That and the fact his brigade had only a dozen men left after the last battle. He gave her a crisp salute. "Greetings colonel. My name is Colonel Telford and I have just been placed in charge of this area. Pardon my appearance but I haven't really had any time for R&R. I'm also just getting acquainted with the situation so I may or may not be able to answer any of your questions or requests that you have although I'll do my best"
TO ALTARIAN HIGH COMMAND FROM Finnish Admirality The fleet has a an excellent anti air suppression system, HMS Deliverance, HMS Grafton and HMS Iron Duke are all specifically designed for anti air operations. Those three destroyers, with the addition of HMS Spartan, a Kirov class heavy missile cruiser will be deployed to the Altarian Republic to be placed under allied command.
