  1. No mention of me :o

    I'm offended

    I'm also an exGOLDer :awesome:

Don't be offended, baseballer790. I recall your membership and have seen you about at public meetings, or is it that I have heard of you being mentioned at public meetings? My hearing is not what it once was though my memory is as sharp as a brick. I'm sure those folks with the flaming torches and pitchforks were mouthing your name.

Wearing a helmet has its advantages and disadvantages. A distinct advantage is that it disguises my rather unfortunate appearance; the disadvantage is that all I hear is the sound of the ocean. Damn well makes one want to go to the privy at inconvenient times.

Back on topic, as the old GOLD sage and guru (albeit, Machiabelly may be a better holder of that title), may I apologise to Nintenderek for him being the butt of many a joke and disparaging remark, particularly from former members of GOLD, including myself. It is a shame that his history includes such weighty baggage. One thousand days of existence is an accomplishment for congratulations and accordingly I extend congratulations to him on behalf of all those who once graced the halls of GOLD.

  2. *W_A_R eases his back with a series of stretches. Grooming his destrier, Daffodil is no easy thing given her appalling flatulence and preponderance towards sudden kicks in confined places. W_A_R's confined place had been sorely tested during the exercise.

It is a pleasure to follow up my fellow Squire's announcement to offer my hearty congratulation to Jacquescousteau and JohnWinthrop.

May you find pleasure in the service of the Rose.

  3. Fortunately, I was in better alliances at the time than the disaster area that GOLD was. Regardless, I wasn't talking about playing ability. I was talking about entertainment value. Unless Vladimir Stukov was the one responsible for making GOLD a running joke, he hasn't created any entertainment.

*W_A_R idly wonders whether Daffodil would be up to a test run of the secret weapon. Perhaps not. The thread is already soiled and odious as it is.

I assume you are a re-roll, WhatOnceWas, as your current nation certainly hasn't been around long enough to have any degree of specific knowledge of GOLD and the competence (or lack thereof) of the leadership or membership. You say that you were in 'better' alliances at the time.

'Better' is such a subjective term and is coloured by one's personal experience. What aspect of your alliance was better? How did you come to that conclusion? On what basis do you make the assertation that GOLD was a 'disaster area' and a 'running joke'?

From my personal experience (and yes, my views are biased) in the early days of GOLD, up to and just after the alliance was sanctioned, it was a great place to be involved with. Sure it was flawed, but it was neither incompetent nor a joke. There was a committed leadership and membership, all striving to make the alliance one to be proud of. Sadly, as it often happens, key membership left, individual rather than collective objectives were pursued, consequently the vision of GOLD became blurred and inevitably there were several stumbles before the final end.

To give him his dues, Nintenderek has always been keen and enthusiastic to play his part in building whatever Alliance he happens to be in. His personality and manner can be 'challenging' to some and he can easily polarise opinions of him. He is not the first ruler to do so and surely will not be the last. He is one of many former GOLD members that have moved on to other alliances and other projects, a substantial number of whom I would not hesitate to call upon should I be establishing a new Alliance (some have posted in this thread). We all grow and learn (well most of us; a handful just keep on making the same old dumb mistakes).

However, if we are talking of entertainment value, I recall that Vladimir Stukov II had a pretty entertaining start to life. You may even want to ask him about it.

  4. 1. My Ex Goldies - Too many people to name. I love you all, if any of you actually still exist from the time when I was there =P

*W_A_R shifts his weight in the saddle of his destrier, Daffodil; a stout horse of a forgiving nature but with an almost unforgivable flatulence ailment. He wrinkles his nose and gags; not for the first time today. Now if he could just harness Daffodil's noxious nature to provide an advantage in battle.

    W_A_R ponders the tactical ramifications.

Ah, Nintenderek. I see you still enjoy the mild notoriety you have garnered for yourself over the millenium of days subconsciously filling you lungs on Digiterra.

It surprises me that although I have been in the service of the Black Rose for well over a year now, surpassing my combined time in GOLD and CON, I hold and cherish many a sweet and intimate memory of those GOLDen days. Oh, how I have grown since those times and (as I'm sure Machiabelly would agree) there are many a thing I would have changed in hindsight.

Nevertheless, what is done is done; what is past is past. The Order is my home now and I am ever honoured to be numbered with such worthy company.

I have taken a passing interest in your post GOLD activities, and you must admit that it is hard not to venture far before you stumble across an incident or thread that you have been involved in, making it far easier for the casual observer to follow your Digiterran career. May you enjoy your next 1000 days as much, if not more than your first. May your steed, whether thoroughbred or donkey, always serve you well.

  5. What a curious nation name you have there, General Specific. A little like your own name which says much without saying anything at all.

I'm not one for digging up the past (and I'm certain yours would be very entertaining) but I would love to know the source of your nation's nomenclature.

Oh, please enjoy your honeymoon period on Digiterra. I hear that there are many attractive places to visit this time of year.

  6. *Squire W_A_R dips his blade in honour to his comrades in black.

To Commander metal and his charges in Blackwater; Congratulations on this fine achievement.

I had the honour of crossing my sword with the Commander's during my rite of passage through the Chamber of the Armoury and I would gladly stand shoulder to shoulder with him and any of his soldiers should we be called upon to do so.

  7. My good friend, Machiabelly.

Congratulations on the achievement. I know how close you came to sink Prince Edward Island into the mire of oblivion, yet here you are 1000 days in. I miss our chats of old and we must resolve to rectify that.

From one upstart youngster (881 days) to a respected elder, well done and a warm embrace.

    W_A_R

  8. The sound of muffled rustlings comes from the bed chambers of W_A_R of Vijar, Squire of the Black Rose. It is dark and the Squire is finding it a challenge to do what he is doing in the limited and confined space that he occupies, but he perseveres. For one fearful moment he thinks that he had left the door to his chambers unlocked but he quickly collects his wits as he reminds himself that his rituals are difficult to overlook.

W_A_R makes a mental note; pinned next to so many other notes, some old and tatty, others far more fresh … to have a larger closet built. He squeezes on his last piece of apparel and a light jingling sounds as he brushes himself down then slowly opens the door.

He struts across to a full length mirror as he stands and admires himself in one of his little personal secrets. A fetish if you like. His lifelong yearnings could never be revealed. His companions of the Order could never know of his ….weakness. For W_A_R stood in his finest motley made of silk and elegantly embroidered, a crooked smile creasing his weathered face. A solitary tear slipped from his left eye and was quickly brushed away. His secret desire to be a Jester, a simple fool was now shattered. News had reached him of a brash upstart being appointed to the role by Her Majesty herself!

This would not do as W_A_R vowed that the Fool Toffee would not enjoy the fruits of his position.

Let my word be my bond. This Toffee shall become unstuck!!!!!

  9. *W_A_R rushes out of the shower cubicle in the Black Rose Bathhouse upon hearing the news that his old friend, Lefty, is leaving. In his haste to wrap a towel around his waist, W_A_R fails to see that some of the Pages have been derelict in their duties and a slither of soap waits for the inevitable. Surprisingly he spots the lurking hazard from the corner of his eye and swiftly side-steps the soap only to careen into Sir SocCarolina exiting a privy. Spluttering apologies to the Knight, W_A_R continues his perilous dance through the bathhouse failing to notice that he had lost his towel in the collision. He steps out of the entrance and into the street where pedestrians going about their daily life are suddenly confronted by a naked man yelling “Leftyyyyy!!!!!”

After his voice stops echoing through the alleyways and rooftops W_A_R becomes aware of not-so-quiet tittering and notices people gawping at him. Not initially understanding why this must be so, W_A_R goes to thrust his hands in his tunic with the result that his palms slide across slightly damp hairy skin. Realizing his predicament, he smiles sheepishly and tries to casually stroll back into the bathhouse as if nothing unusual has happened.

I'd give you a hug Lefty but my nakedness may set tongues wagging and well, I haven't waxed yet.

Excellent news on the finishing school and prospective work front. You have always been a good friend in this world since our days in GOLD and I regret not getting to write a Carrot Cake Journal entry of a visit to your nation. I may have to chalk something up.

All the best to you and yours and hopefully I'll see a message hit my inbox or profile now and then.

    Take care.

  10. A weary figure limps in from the shadows; tired in body he might be, but his eyes displayed an awareness and intelligence that cautioned others from any thought of taking advantage of him. His weathered face creased into a smiled as he nodded an acknowledgement to those that he knew, his dark eyes now looking less threatening and far more friendly.

This is a fantastic development from the Order of the Black Rose and one that fits comfortably with our values and principles. We have worked hard to ensure cordial and open relationships with other nations and alliances on this world we call 'Digiterra' and the Writ De Credo is evidence of this.

My hearty congratulations to those individual members that have made this initiative sprout into life, the roots taking firm hold of the dark soil and the shoots reaching for the stars.

The Order (both the Order itself and Blackwater) is fortunate to have many members who are active, intelligent, creative and enthusiastic and I have no doubt that the Realm of the Rose will bud and bloom in abundance.

Long live the Black Rose, Queen AterAtra! Strength and Fortitude to Blackwater! Long live the Order and all those that comprise the Realm of the Rose!

W_A_R unsteadily turns on his heels and then limps back into the shadows of the Black Keep's corridors.

  11. Ah, Seraku. I well remember you from 'the old days' particularly during my time in GOLD. You were pretty much everywhere.

I hope all your ambitions and desires are fulfilled in the place known as Real Life.

  12. The cold bites deep as the somewhat bedraggled figure limps silently to a higher vantage point upon a black, wet granite outcrop. The cloaked man scans the horizon, squinting against the icy wind and struggling to maintain his footing. The Keep of the Black Rose loomed against the skyline; foreboding to some but a sanctuary of intelligence and human endeavour to those that were better informed.

    "Damnable weather" he muttered.

He had been away for so long and although comfortable with his own company, he missed the warmth of the Rocking Rose Inn and the voices and comraderie of those who frequented the establishment. He could almost taste the New Ddraig Stout now.

Many of those voices had gone. Experimentum, Fonzoland, Necrostopheles, Gwalchfaen, Evil Cartyen, DanniiMarie. Their voices carried on the chill wind tugging at his emotions. Now another had gone. Reformentia.

Sir Reformentia would be sorely missed but his legacy would live on. The Order and Blackwater were stronger because of his efforts and he would not be forgotten as Knight XVIII of the Black Rose.

There were many others who continued to make an enormous contribution to the Order and the future was bright, but the bleakness of loss and sorrow has its place for today. The man shifted his weight and stumbled a little. He muttered a curse and rubbed his aching knee. Age and weathering had taken its toll on the physical body but his mind was still sharp, even though it had an occasional dull moment or two.

"Farewell Reformentia. May your soul find peace in the otherworld."

W_A_R took another glance towards the imposing walls of the fortress.

"Perhaps it is time to come in out of the cold." he thought as he started a slow walk towards the Black Keep.

Although never a Legionnaire, I take the this time to say "Ave Reformentia" and as Sir Experimentum would say "Mi Takaye Oyacin".

  13. My heartiest congratulations to all those appointed.

Nice to see Hebrin, King Leroy, Bobbobaby, Fro Kraknar, Ojiras  and Ard Rí 'doing the do' for the Confederation of Organized Nations!

Note - My stealthy machinations to abduct Ojiras will come to fruition one day.

To All Sentient Beings of Digiterra,

Sailing the often storm tossed seas of Digiterran politics can be a difficult task for any Alliance and no more or less so for the vessel that is the Order of the Black Rose. We in the Order have steadfastly stuck to our founding principles of honour and chivalry, believing that these will guide us through even the most treacherous of waters.

Today we recognise the second anniversary of the founding of the Order and we have much to celebrate. The past twelve months have seen us extend the Writ De Credo to several more Alliances who wish to acknowledge our Order and our ideals. We are honoured that many esteemed voices say that the Writ De Credo is one of the most respected and valued documents in existence.

We also celebrate our achievement in establishing Blackwater, our brother in Black. The worthy members of that Alliance have worked very diligently to ensure that Blackwater becomes self-sufficient and develops its own unique identity. We are proud of their efforts.

We also remember those of our Order who are no longer with us to see this day. They have indelibly scribed their spirit into our history and today we celebrate their contribution to the wellbeing and longevity of the Order.

Our commitment towards preserving the ideals of the Black Rose is undiminished. The Knights, Squires and Pages, one and all, are dedicated to furthering the Order in an atmosphere of fellowship, camaraderie, honour and chivalry and we look towards a future that continues to be bright and prosperous for all.

Long Live the Queen, the Black Rose!

    Long Live the Order!

  15. Should alliances really have to post every time they get new members?

*W_A_R rubs his now shaven jaw.

I see many threads announcing the appointment of new members to Alliance Governments.

The elevation of a Knight (and to a lesser extent, the promotion to Squire) is a comparable event for the Order of the Black Rose.

We rarely make announcements and endeavour not to clutter the town notice board with inconsequential matters. The Order does not post announcements just because we enjoy the taste of our words (although certainly, some of us do). We post to inform our friends of the important happenings from the Black Keep.

  16. *W_A_R rubs his jaw thoughtfully.

'Grizzled Veteran', eh. There may be more truth in that description than I care to admit.

My appreciation to my fellow members of the Black Rose Order and Blackwater for their best wishes on my promotion. The supplication and subsequent training through the Diamond Ring can be arduous at times, but also greatly satisfying. My fellows of all rank, both women and men, make my membership of the Order so much more enjoyable. I thank you all.

To Hebrin, Darknecromance, Casey3927, and JWConner: My time at CON was enjoyable. I was free of the constraints of any government role and was made very welcome. It was an honour to fight by your sides. Although some of you have moved to other Alliances, friendships are free of such political boundaries.

To General Ulji and Eric Bunker: It was a pleasure to have worked with you both. The challenges faced by NEAT still rankle me somewhat and I am pleased to have helped in the small way I did.

Vladimir Stukov: If you are held captive by a dragon, I may just need to come to your rescue (although I refuse to slay the dragon; perhaps I can bribe it with a cow or two).

Schattenmann: Thank you for your words. I follow your career with interest, also. You are intelligent and articulate and I enjoy reading about your escapades (quite frankly I am surprised that the NPO hasn't tried to recruit you).

*W_A_R rubs his jaw again. Perhaps a shave is in order.
