1. Congrats to my old friends at Symphony!
Holy !@#$, Christmas comes early!
Yep, it's Christmas in July, kinda fitting since it is winter in the southern hemisphere... What can I expect from VE?
 2. Again, thanks for all the well wishes, here's my response to some comments...
CN is, and always will be a game that revolves around players' actions. The lack of change by Admin is one of the reasons many people start playing it in the first place. You need to make your own fun in this game. The fun comes not from wars or game mechanics, but in observing and participating in political change. I've had quite a ride over the year, it's the good and bad things that make the game fun. Good luck. My only IC interaction with you was a single tech deal in the middle of a war, but hope you'll still be hanging around OOC.
Although that is what the majority of the game is about and is true (I'm not denying it), there's also another side to it. Lets say you're an automaker in the 50's (sorry, too much Top Gear), you make your cars, they're great, everyone loves them, you sell a billion of them. Fast forward 50 years later, and you're still making and selling the exact same cars. People won't buy them, they'd lack many safety features and other random things that make driving a car more convenient. If you overhaul your design overnight, people still won't buy your cars, but if you updated significant things once in a while, you'd have a steady business going. It's the same with CN. If there's no updates for 2 years while there's lots of other, sleeker, better and newer web games popping up, people will eventually move on the newer thing, or in CN's case, just stop playing and ignore it. Progressive updating is needed to keep your audience/market interested, it's something that CN has lacked for a long time. The majority of posts on these forums are by the old, die-hard players which seem to always be arguing about something and trolling one another. Most of the fun players are only heard from when they need to hail another useless treaty, and if I want to talk to these people, I'd have to seek them out on IRC and converse with them there, which I can do in the real world by walking to the nearest pub. There's only so much participating you can do before you realize it's the same as a pub brawl.
People blaming Admin for being bored make me laugh. It's like saying Chess would be more fun if the inventors added range or area of effect attacks to the pawns. Get over yourself. The game is fine, it's the forums, IRC, backrooms, etc. that make this game what it is. If you aren't involved in those things, you're either lazy or incompetent. Your nation is what you put at risk/use to contribute. Think of it as an avatar: Pretty advanced avatar huh? I don't care what alliance you're a member of, there is always something that needs done. Get involved, be ambitious, or take off.
Read my reply to the post above...
Really enjoyed your post. I know nothing of VE but the other comments felt very familiar to a barely active old one like me. New New Zealand is a familiar name, and I wish you luck whatever you do in the future.
I think we did a tech deal once
 3. Thanks for the well wishes everyone, I really appreciate it. @Henry: If CN got a major revamp, I won't regret my leaving now at all. It has to be a really substantial update to get me back. @Heft: It still won't change the mechanics of the game or the politics, it'll still be the same old boring thing it is now. Meeting new people may make it a bit interesting for a little while, but then it'll be the same old thing again. @Teddyyo Thanks for the kind words... It's people like you who have made my time at VE and CN in general so enjoyable.
 4. First of all, let me start by saying I know none of you care about what I have to say, and expect that all of you will find this pointless and meaningless except the few people that may respond to it. I've only utilized this forum for the convenience of it as a soundboard. Second, I've met some great people during my time here, way too many to name, but if we've ever chatted OOC, you're one of them. Now, to the real business... As those I chat to regularly know, I've been disinterested in CN for quite some time. There's many reasons for this cause and I'll start off with the game itself. It's Boring! There have been no major updates to the gameplay since the addition of the Mars/Moon bases in July 2009. However, due to the cost, this update hardly affected the majority of nations. At this very moment there's 2,633 Moon bases and 756 Mars Bases. There's also just over 20,000 nations and only about 15% of them have a Moon or Mars wonders. Previous major update before this was a month earlier with changes to the spy attacks. Again, not something used on a daily basis by most people. The only updates which affected all players and gameplay were in 2008 (and earlier). The change in war declaration range in November, introduction of navy in July and events reintroduced in June. The biggest updates were done in May 2008, 2 years and 8 months ago. You can see why I've been bored with it for over a year. I know its not easy to make and develop a game, but when there hasn't been a major update or improvement in the game play for over 2 years, it's easy to see why there's fewer and fewer players. If you think CN is not losing players, then you need to pay more attention. I've lost 3 trades from a stable trade ring in the last 2 months that was running for over a year from deleted inactive nation. I just can't be bothered looking for new trades only to have those same nations deleted 4 weeks later. If Admin wants for this game to continue existing, he needs to wake up and realize there's a huge problem and come up with a fix for it, or it will suffer the same fate as Truckz. The other reason I'm over CN is because of the general BS and ignorance on these forums. I never realized how immature and to put it bluntly, stupid people can be in order to defend a few pixels. I guess you can't expect much more when the majority of players are petty little children, and not in the literal sense but figuratively, even though most on here are kids. People just need to grow up and stop doing the whole "no u" thing. Now, to the last thing that kinda broke my CN enjoyment. When I first made my nation 3 years ago, I received a ton of recruitment messages. The only one that seemed genuine and not copy pasted was the one from a green alliance called Viridian Entente. I joined, enjoyed my time there for a while, moved on to start Ordo Recolitus then merged to Ordo Verde, left there, started a micro alliance just as the Karma war broke out, disbanded, joined Vanguard temporarily and then rejoined VE again. It was good to be in a familiar environment among old friends and like always, I enjoyed being there. I left on good terms as I thought at the time, but what followed showed me that may not have been the case. I have friends at VE and wish them no ill thoughts and I still respect the values of what VE once stood for. However, certain actions over the last 10-12 months and as recently as 2 weeks ago have demonstrated to me that the values of the VE I knew and loved when I first joined are not respected anymore. I know I'm not the only one that shares these thoughts as there are a few former and current VE members which have expressed the same thing. I really wish nothing against VE, and I hope my current actions reflect that, but you guys need to find your way back to the old times when we were the underdog and others looked up to us and praised us for the actions we took. The same time when even former members were proud to say they were once a part of the glorious Entente, as opposed to hanging their heads in shame and would rather forget the whole thing happened. I for one, will always think of myself as a Viridian at heart as I would assume many of the older members feel, even though they may not currently be in VE. Again, thanks to everyone who has made my time on Planet Bob an amazing one, you really do know who you all are. If you have nothing meaningful to contribute to this post instead of the typical OWF "no u" attitude, best not to say anything rather than further prove one of my points. I haven't proof-read this post, so ignore whatever mistakes there might be. Thank you and good night! PS. Happy 3 year anniversary to New New Zealand!
