1. I think Count Rupert said it best:
Well, nothing I see in the new offerings changes my mind. I like the one with the tongue. It just seems to show us perfectly as hoopy froods with a touch of irrelevance.

Interesting It has potential, but it seems a bit light. It's a bit hard to see. Pretty fun, though.
I think it stands out quite well on the white background. It was originally darker and more green but the hitchhiker masses wanted more aqua
 2.
Good catch. I guess they were shopping for a replacement, eh? Harmbrella...sounds odd.
You should see the tag. I'm quite happy with this upgrade and I hope our goverment will continue the good set of relations we have. That said we still have one treaty too many I think.
 3.
Instead of posting rejects, how 'bout you post the actual one?
I would but it's still a work in progress, rejects is the best I can do

 5.
The Amazing Sanction Race By: Pourquoi Its sometimes difficult to gauge how well the alliance is growing, especially in comparison to other alliances. So, as it's our birthday, I thought now would be a good time to look back and see how far we've come over the last month, six months, year and how far we've come since the first 'Amazing Sanction Race' post on the 2nd of January 2008, over 2 years and 9 months ago. Today: 1 [683] (+1) Mostly Harmless Alliance : 61.74 --> 61.89 (+0.15) 2 [518] (+1) New Pacific Order : 56.21 --> 56.35 (+0.14) 3 [257] (+0) Green Protection Agency : 45.23 --> 45.17 (-0.06) We're top of the pack, with a Score lead over NPO in 2nd of more than 5, and 3rd place GPA of more than 15! A month ago: 1 [651] (+1) Mostly Harmless Alliance : 57.47 --> 57.67 (+0.20) 2 [540] (+2) New Pacific Order : 53.58 --> 53.77 (+0.19) 3 [281] (-1) Green Protection Agency : 44.89 --> 44.91 (+0.02) So we had a similar lead over both NPO and GPA. Over the month we grew by more than 4 points. Quite impressive, but lets see how far we've come since this time last year. A year ago: 1 [226] (-1) The Order Of The Paradox : 52.16 --> 52.00 (-0.16) 2 [623] (-13) Sparta : 49.82 --> 49.68 (-0.24) 3 [641] (-4) Mostly Harmless Alliance : 48.53 --> 48.57 (+0.04) 4 [415] (-1) New Polar Order : 45.83 --> 45.94 (+0.11) How times have changed. TOP were the elite leaders of the scoreboard. Ourselves & Sparta vied for 2nd, NPO were still under sanction requirements... Back then our score of 48.57 wasn't at all bad, and I doubt many back then would have envisaged us here today. Now lets really plunge back in time; the date is January 2nd 2008. Where was the MHA back then: 8 Global Alliance and Treaty Organization: 19.35 --> 19.38 (+0.03) 9 Sparta: 19.12 --> 19.15 (+0.03) 10 MHA: 18.41--> 18.58 (+0.17) 11 The Phoenix Federation: 18.23 --> 18.52 (+0.29) 12 Atlantis: 18.28 --> 18.41 (+0.13) Well, quite a long way off today. Our score was more than 42 lower than it is today (42 isnt the most accurate rounding, but I prefer it nonetheless) and we were some 36.5 score away from the leaders GPA on 55. So there you go. Before I forget, I wish to dedicate this post to the Amazing Sanction Race, from whence all that is above is stolen: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?showtopic=11169&st=0
For more info on the sanction race I highly recommend this articleon the CN wiki. This is what the very first recorded entry of the modern day sanction race looked like: Apr 11 2007, 10:33 AM Alliance Score 1 NPO: 66.54 2 IRON: 52.9 3 GPA: 52.86 4 FAN: 50.98 5 GOONS: 41.77 6 \m/: 33.62 7 ONOS: 33.28 8 GOLD: 32.54 9 VE: 31.47 10 Legion: 28.42 11 ODN: 27.98 12 GGA: 27.21 13 NpO: 26.65 14 Nordreich: 25.36 15 NADC: 23.9 16 GATO: 20.95 17 NAAC: 19.61 18 CSN: 17.57 19 MHA: 17.4 20 CDS: 15.67 21 Genmay: 12.23 22 LOSS: 11.9 23 GDA: 11.54 24 Fark: 7.99

 7.
Heh I didn't see this one coming. Congratulations to both of you! Edit: Azrael, we (Grämlins) may not have liked NPO, and the eternal treaties (both of them) were stupid, but we respected your (MHA's) friendship with them and it's not really accurate to say we 'would not rest till one or the other was destroyed'. We didn't engage them in Karma after all. That's all rather in the past at this point though.
Bob, at no point did I say that. I meant that ws the way we saw it and it seemed liked the ideal solution to stop any of you coming to blows. My look at karma reference note was merely a not to your (Grämlins) involvement in the running of Karma's military action. I probably worded it badly though.
My feelings towards MHA are neutral, but I've seen this argument several times now. ODN took flak for a long time. You will too. Instead of telling people to stop, just continue on with business as usual and let the peanut gallery be the peanut gallery.
We are but there does seem to be a large increase of anti-hitchhiker sentiment and one get's the feeling that if we as an alliance just ignore and don't even attempt to defend or own up to or past mistakes then it could easily turn to resentment and an incorrect representation of the MHA being plastered all over these forums. We'll take our share of flak but if you expect my fellow hitchhiker not to get annoyed by the likes of Crymson evidently looking to get a rise out of our members. Then you'll have to keep hearing the same argument again and again.
 8. We inch ever closer to that dream of 1000 members
 9.
Needs a longer cancellation clause.
Yeah ok man we were naive enough to think writing two eternal treaties with alliances who were at the time our best friends yet seemed to hate each other. And would not rest till one or the other was destroyed. And while it was very one sided in that sense it did end up happened in a round about way (See gre involvement in KARMA). At least give us a break to try and right our ship. If you guys can seem to let ODN slide why not take a break, lie in a hammock and drink a delicious pan galactic gargle blaster.
 10. i swapped to black and sent my trades, give me a few day to get myself a harbour

 12.
You don't think it seems a little off that you're untested after being in this game so long? You're nothing but cowards.
No I don't. Having been top and mid level gov over the years I know for a fact that if things had worked out differently we would have gone onto two very different sides of two major wars. The chips fall where they may and eventually they will fall against the MHA. And unless that happens and my alliance is defeated, brought to its knees and undergone a lengthy period of paying reparations we will remain cowards? *Sigh* We’re not going to apologise for not being asshats on the world stage. We’ve tried and always ends badly so we leave it to the pros.
 13.
I will agree with an earlier poster to some extent. 1) Ragnarok - Proven history of military fortitude, strong and stable treaties, and good leaders. 2) Mushroom Kingdom - There allies really let them down often having to carry certain alliances. They are tough and are very deserving of the #2 position. 3) Umbrella - I've always liked them they are a bit of a silent wrecking ball in the sense they don't look for a fight they just say prayers for those they have to fight. 4) New Pacific Order - Solid #4 due to the fact that they have a strong nuke count, a membership that doesn't flake in the middle of a war, and generally are pretty well organized. Easily a #1 alliance in the future if any alliance would ever be willing to take a chance on them when it comes to treaties. 5) New Polar Order - Relatively stable, not afraid of a fight, and good treaty connections. Our tech numbers are the only thing that prevents us from moving a bit higher up on this list.
You know I agree with all of this but then from nowhere you come out with this:
99) Mostly Harmless Alliance - Meh? Who cares? An alliance that has the backbone of an invertebrate. Untested, and realistically have the look of a GWIII Legion Paper Tiger.
Well I for one care and I don't see how you, a former legion commander in our alliance feel justified in ranking us so low. Were obviously not a military powerhouse the likes of the Mushriech or Polaris but we can give as good as we get. Untested, that sums it up so how about you wait for the day we are. Maybe you'll be right or maybe you'll be wrong but it will be better than you bitter assumption that a fart in the wind will knock us over.
 14.
Bump. MHA is a nice alliance.
Why thank you
 15. You can add my sugar and uranium edit: I'll change teams when I can
 16.
Is MHA making a new one?
[s] I doubt it.[/s] Yes we are
 17. For the Mostly Harmless Alliance: 14.5/0.2 + 1 = 73.5 With that we shall lay claim to Scotland and move southwards
 18.
I might have been over-exaggerating to call MHA scum, but I still believe MHA does not possess the power to stand up for any principles, and furthermore, they continue the disastrous trend of infra> friends, which will only make the current situation of bob more in dire straits.
I'm just guessing here but chances are that until the MHA is rolled people will continue to say this. I have only ever written two treaties for my alliance the first being an NAP with the world task force and the second the treaty which is being cancelled here. My signiture is on that document and until grämlins disband if they call upon me i'll come. But the MHA being a representative democracy did what it's people asked of them. We kept the war with the help of our allies isolated to just the Grämlins, DAWN and IRON and fulfilled thier wish to leave them be. With the dust settled it was allways going to be up to the members to decide if they would keep the treaty. Would I have preferred we keep the treaty, of coarse. But our alliance is conditioned to to act upon our members wises. En Taro Adun my brothers
 19.
It's sad that you lost your forums. If someone still has control of them it is disgusting that they wont give them back (or, in fact, that they removed them in the first place).
It has always been my suspicion that DFD our former admin gave some access to members of the CN community and even possibly sold the site/database to such a person. I'm hoping that person he sold it to will have been an active member or a player in CN who has been around for a while. While they may not wish to admit publicly they have the database I would love it if they were to contact me or even host it for all to see (hopefully omitting any personal info of coarse). But in the end if anything it a lesson for any alliance to keep backups and never have the control of a forum left to one individual in the community.
There is only a moderate possibility that if it was an IPS hosted community you could contact them to see if they kept records of the forums. Otherwise the data is lost assuming DFD himself does not have a backup somewhere for his own collection or another former root admin. Those forums went offline about a year ago if I remember correctly, and they were IPB. http://www.invisionpower.com/company/contact.php Feel free to contact them and give them all the information you remember of the forums to see if they can help you. My guess would be no, if I remember correctly they put all the burden on the owner to store proper backups of their forums, but I think that would be a bit foolish from an owner's standpoint (of IPS) to not have backup databases somewhere collected automatically. Hope this helps at all.
Thank you for the advice lonewolfe2015. I have contacted them and eagerly await a reply but as you predict the chances are going to be slim. But...well the topic title already alluded to that.
It would be pretty cool if a lot of alliances that have old forums decided to make them public. CSN's old forums are interesting because during Gino's reign we were really big on writing "diplomatic reports" for every alliance or incident around. Some of them are pretty amusing.
It would really allow us to see the real characters of alliances in the past and see what they really thought about things. I for one would love to see the logs during the great patriotic war.
And can we get the old tC forums back in the meantime
Old friend I have most of the big topics of discussion archived somewhere for posterity for you i'll dig them out. It might make for an interesting issue of Don't Panic.
Are you sure? I did find something after using the Way Back Machine. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://mostlyharmlessalliance.org/forums/ But from what I saw you'll only be able to recover a few public topics. Maybe you'll have more luck if you could ask any of the people that had administrator right on the forums if they have any kind of backups on their HDD or on a CD/DVD. That's how I found part of my old blog(on a dusty CD in my desk drawer).
Backups were limited and those are well the topics no one remembers (boring stuff).
 20. Did you know in every house I have lived in, which would be 2 during my childhood with the recent addition of my student digs. I always made sure I kept my collection of family photos next to the front door. The reasoning behind the placement has always been that in the event of a fire and once ensuring there is no one is trapped inside the building I would be able to simple grab the boxes of photos and save them. Why would I want to save these photos is probably one of the first questions that pops into your head. The fact is after the people in the building they are in my mind the most important thing I own. Everything else could burn down and I would not give a flying fark (I say that but after a while the loss of my laptop and HD TV would piss me off) but the photos I would risk a moderate burning for (my self preservation instinct would kick in at some point). And the reason is that those photos for me are filled with memories. Sure I can easily think back event of the captured images, but nothing brings back the flood of remembrance like seeing the picture of me holding a local newspaper with my self on the front page. I grew a freaking big sunflower when I was in primary school in case your wondering. And when I say "I" I actually mean my class but it works better my way as an anecdote. Or seeing a small a5 sized photo of my grandfather as a smiling boy in his sepia toned world. They say a picture paints a thousands words and their right. This brings me neatly to my point and reason for creating this thread. I know the MHA is not the most loved or liked of alliances. I know we don't play the game in the way most expect the #1 alliance to do. I know were not saints and we have made mistakes in the past. I personally have to apologise to Atlantis to put it frankly we were ****s. But in early 2009 our forums were taken from us by a rogue site admin DFD a fate I would not wish upon my worst enemy. We were able to easily relocate to our current forums and was able to rebuild the infrastructure thanks to our dedicated membership. Fast forward a bit to karma and the vox resistance and it turned out the MHA boards were reactivated and someone claiming not to be DFD had been given admin access to the boards. My assumption always was that it was Vox or possibly DFD messing about with us as it was unknown to us at the time that he was able to view member to member PMs. Anyhoo after threatening to release the most sensitive stuff the unknown person takes the boards down again with message that read similar to this. "I did not know how much the boards were worth " Now it was recent nostalgia the made me try the way back machine to see if anything remained of the MHA boards. Alas there was nothing and it saddens me that a large period of the MHA's history is lost to our newer members. While it may seem MHA is new hat we are in fact one of the oldest alliances around but there are no photo's for our member to view. No "Should we join the initiative" topic to read. So my plea while mostly futile is simple. Does anyone know anything that would help me get the database and boards back. Because the answer I expect is to be a torrent of No's and I don't wish to waste a topic. How would you feel if all of your old forums/archives were made public? As the forums that were lost to the MHA are now two years out of date I can't say I would mind. The MHA then different to the one it is now. Thank for your patience. A humble old hitchhiker http://mostlyharmlessalliance.org/forums/

 22.
Frankly, considering that it is the one treaty that is being used to prolong the war and keep my alliance still bound by surrender terms, it is precisely my concern.
As I said before you are in the unfortunate position of having to wait as nothing you do nor say will have an effect on the status of the Accords. Seeing as your terms are neutrality in this conflict (terms here) it you who have to lie in the bed you made. Just as were having to do, regardless of how thorny the duvet
 23.
I know who Myth is. If you remember, at the time he joined MHA I was in an alliance that held an MADP with NATO. And yes, I would call him new blood. Much of what I would refer to as old guard MHA went in the formation of Argent, and the others have gradually dropped off over the years.
Yes large chunk of the MHA old guard ([s]traitors[/s] sexy froods ) left to form argent but just as many stayed in the MHA. We would not have become the alliance we are today without that old guard forming the solid bedrock on which our alliance has been built. I don't see the purpose in referencing the splinter alliance who were just a select group of member who wanted an alliance with a different philosophy and slant.
