It had been a hard decision. With the fall of the Greater Nordland Reich, it was a goal, now. Before, Rome had been fearful to attack the Fascist uprising, even if it was weaker...due to the presence of GNR. Fearful that any sort of military action against it, directly, would provoke the burning of Rome once more - something that Emperor Cato would never allow in his life time.

The 30,000 troops and 750 tanks stationed on the border were ready to invade, on a moments notice. The aircraft had been prepared, and targets were being selected. Reports were streaming into him, that Free Somal would be sending soldiers, equipment, and aircraft to assist in the assault. Not that it was needed, but the gesture was nice, and Somal was a friendly country. They would be a great ally in the future.

He had to prepare a speech to the world, to justify his attacks...

---

Rome, Press Conference

"People of the free world. Long has the world yearned to be free of oppressive rule from dictators and oppressive regimes. Long has Fascism been an enemy of the free world. The Roman Empire, after suffering countless threats, denouncement of my and my staff's leadership of the peoples, and an ultimatum to hand over the sacred, most holy of holy cities, Rome, it is time to stand up and say that we have had enough!

Long has the Fascist Regime to our north, claimed to be the true Italian state, while it sat behind its allies, cowering from Rome. Long has the Fascist Regime oppressed its peoples, insulting the true Roman state to its south. It has been far too long since anything was done about it. It is time now, for Rome to act accordingly.

The Imperium Romanum, Empire of Rome, hereby recognizes a state of war between the oppressive Fascist regime to our north. Our troops will be vigilant, our attacks will be swift, and our goal shall be true. You can no longer hide behind your allies. It is time to come into the light, to face the sun. Your end, is near."

---

Video footage had been streaming into the general's HQ. Upon the declaration of war that Emperor Cato had said, the Roman troops surged over the Eastern border, pushing upwards. Artillery emplacements began pounding the Fascists' positions. 10,000 Roman soldiers and 400 tanks crossed the border, taking up formation and firing upon the fascists. The soldiers were armed with HK416 Assault Rifles, Singaporean SAR-21 assault rifles, and MATADORs from Singapore. Their goal: Florence.

Elsewhere in Italy, close to the Fascist border, 5 Squadrons of Tupolev Tu-160 Bombers (35 Bombers) made runs into Northern Italy, above the Eastern flank. Their orders were to hit key military emplacements near the border, neutralizing their effectiveness. 6 Squadrons of F-22 Raptors surged out of the airbase, taking up formation within their squads, to fly air cover and to engage any hostile aircraft. The 9K37M1-2 SAM Battalions were ordered to move closer to the border, 18mi from it, in order to properly attack any incoming aircraft, into the Roman border.

On the Western Flank, things were more calm. As calm as they can get in a war-time situation. Artillery along the border pounded Fascist positions, as 10 Squadrons of Tupolev Tu's began carpet bombing the area, aiming in the general direction of equipment emplacements. Troops had been ordered to hold their positions, awaiting Somalian reinforcements to arrive, before they began their push.

That wasn't to say that everything went according to plan. Fascist anti-air pounded the bombers as they streaked across the sky. Losses were minimal, but in the eyes of General Mario Luigi, every loss was a major loss. That was one more family that would be grieved by the death of the loved one. He watched as three Tupolev's fell out of the sky and crash landed into the ground. At that height, they wouldn't have survived if the AA fire had managed to hit them.

He radioed to the Emperor, telling him that the Somalians should arrive soon. His soldiers were getting antsy, and they wanted Fascist blood.

Just Outside of Imperium Romanum Airspace

"Doghumper lead to Imperium Flight Control, over," requests the Flight Commander Joule Danwi as he continues with, "We are requesting permission to land for all 180 of us. We are told you will be expecting us with fuel and munitions, over."

Near the Bottom of the Italian Peninsula

"Deployment order is as follows:

First Reserve Brigade goes ashore first with Anti-Air Missiles. Following them will be each of the brigades in sequential order with the new equipment coming in last. We will be moving to our assigned defensive zones as directed by Imperium command. Do you understand me," asks Mad Dog Bob Denard?

"Yes sir," sounds off each of the Brigade Commanders.

"Gentlemen, this is our chance to right a wrong that has been waiting sixty years to correct itself. Sixty years ago the Italians left our lands after they defiled them with their Colonial corruption. We aren't here to kill them out of hand, but we are here to help topple yet another one of these tin plated dictators who cloak themselves in the mantle of fascism," continues Bob as he speaks to the men in front of him.

"Marsh Bob," interjects one of the commanders as he says,"Can't we kill just a few of the prisoners?"

"Damn it Farouq this is serious," replies Bob.

"Keep in mind gentlemen the eyes of the world will be upon us. We will be watched to see how we conduct ourselves in battle. We will represent the entire African continent. For the first time in nearly a thousand years since the army of Hannibal Africanus no African Army has stood on the shores of Europe. This time we seek not to make them tremble in fear, but this time we look to make them see us in a different light," comments Jawal Actunaesal of the 4th Reserve Brigade.

"That's spot on Jawal, we are here to topple a Fascist Government. Not to kill civilians, not to torture prisoners, and definitely not to $%&@ the women. I know some of you have seen some hard campaigning with the African Legion. However, keep in mind that the world doesn't give a damn about massacres in Africa for a reason. If anyone of our men pulls a stunt like that it will spell the end for Somal," Bob says as he dismisses the Brigade Commanders to return to their stations.

IL POPOLO D'ITALIA, Toscana - Southern forces have launched massive aerial assaults on targets in Toscana, Umbria and beyond in a major escalation of the war.

Bombs rained down on the Italian border, recently de-militarized when the Italian regime tried to ease the tensions with the southern neighbour. As the Southern Country claims to be member of "the free world", undisciminated bombings on undefended positions left thousands people on the ground as Anti Raid Siren didn't work infront of the unexpected attack..

bombingofdresden.jpgbombingofcassinoitaly19.jpg

Several hundred targets have been hit along the border, mostly villages and undefended border checkpoints with no defences or military presence. The main army corps have been deployed to the northern shore of Garda Lake, near the high mountains of Trentino Alto Adige and Sud Tirolo.

War correspondsts, reporting from the border, said the skyline was lit up many times. Several explosions have also been reported in another soutnern City, Terni, where complete de-militarization has left thousands civilian with no defences. The Emergency Services are unable to reach the bombed area, and the lack of food and medicines due to collapse of its former trade partners has left the Southern regions into complete chaos and anarchy.

As the bombardment continued, Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Ciano, offered the Roman Empire a ceasefire to discuss surrender terms. He also added in a news conference that "Witnesses report thousands civilian casualities, and the military command reports one hundred military personnel deaths, mainly Flak crews and border guard of the Guardia Nazionale Repubblicana,"

Southern ground forces are meeting no resistance during their advance, they are meeting mobs of refugees moving to the north, and a few members of the Esercito Nazionale Repubblicano with their hands up, coming out of scattered trenches and machine gun nests. "Unprecedented umanitary emergency", is the word used by Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs Roberto Ciano.[/color]

The Republic of Free Somal suggest to Foreign Affairs Fellow Ciano that calling it an umanitary disaster might confuse people. However, have no worries as troops from the Free Somal Republic will be arriving shortly to help take matters in hand with this disaster.

Somal:

Make best speed to our airbases, in southern Italy.

If you can manage, our biggest airbase next to the front, Viterbo & Rome, are open as well, and are currently housing Roman aircraft. Our ports are open for any troops you have. I am in current command of all Roman forces, and am told that I will be commanding the Somalian forces in the region as well.

I want to make it absolutely clear: I will give your commanders their objectives, and they will be ordered to accomplish it through their means. My boys will be there to assist as well, but not too much - our Eastern flank doesn't have as many soldiers as the Western, until the reserves come up. So long as the job gets done without too many casualties, they will be fine.

General Mario Luigi,
Commander of the Imperial Roman Military (IRM)

Generale Giorgio Almirante, 1st President of the Italian Republic

Generale Giorgio Almirante has proclaimed the existance of a new Italian Government from the fascist regime, declaring the birth of a new breakup state formed in the northern Italian regions of Lombardia, Veneto, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige, becoming a new state the Italian Peninsula and leaving the fascist regime in complete chaos.

The declaration means the Fascist Regime of Junio Borghese is not in charge of Northern Italy anymore, and italian armed forces have declared loyalty to the new republican Government as the last vestige of the GNR coalition, the regime led by the Partito Fascista Repubblicano, has ceased to exist, at least formally.

"I announce that the Parliament of Italy voted for the proclamation of independence of the Repubblica Italiana, a new Italian Republic striving for reconciliation an de-fascistization of Italy. As Commander in-chief of the Italian Armed Forces in the north, we demand the Imperium Romanum to cease attacks against Republican troops stationed there. We urgently require to meet a representative of the Empire to discuss the nature of our independence" General Giorgio Almirante said after the assembly's unanimous vote. Meanwhile, any official communication with the members of the fascist regime have ceased, the border guards set up a new border and exposed the new coat of Arms of the Republic.

Arriving Mig 35 Squadrons

"Stack your sleds to 40,000 feet and bring them in one at a time," orders Flight Commander Joule Danwi as he rolls his own Mig 35 onto its side and brings it in for a landing. After bringing his plane to a stop at the end of the busy runway he waits until a ground crewman, from the Imperium, brings the boarding ladder to the side of his plane. He pops his $@pit, leans out his head, and in reasonable English asks, "Say, you wouldn't happen to know where the hell we are?"

"Rome," laughs the ground crewman.

"You have fuel, bombs, and other expendables for us," asks the Flight Commander?

"That we do," responds the man as he sets to work.

"Good, I'll wait right here until I've been rearmed. Just as soon as my 901st Fighter Wing has been fueled and rearmed we launch."

"Don't waste hardly any time do you?"

"Not when there are fascists around to kill."

Southern Tip of the Italian Peninsula

"Marsh Bob, we have a dispatch from the Imperium," says an orderly as he hands it to him.

Bob dismisses the man with a wave of his hand as he takes the message and reads it. He grunts and says, "Send a message back confirming our orders. We'll be landing as soon as possible. Do not put a time, location, or heading on our response and cite security concerns for possible radio signal interceptions. Also I want an intelligence update on these Northern Romans, ask for one."

"Right away Marsh Bob," replies the orderly.

To General Mario Luigi

From: Mad Dog Bob Denard

Confirmed, we will make best speed possible. We need what intelligence you have avaliable on the fascists. Please provide and keep us apprised of any changes of situation.

Mad Dog Bob Denard

IL POPOLO D'ITALIA, Salò - Thousands pour into the new Repubblica Italiana as violence escalates in central Italy. Air raids and the fall of the fascist regime forced military personnel and authorities to pour into the northern border, where the new Republican troops are accepting them with the status of refugees. Among the figures there are former Minister of Defense Rodolfo Graziani and Ambassador Roberto Ciano.

OOC: Botha mode or not I can't keep 60,000 starvin' Somalians off the coast of Italy.

IC:

120 of the 180 MIG 35 Fighters return to the Free Republic of Somal. They are joined by the departure of 5 of the 11 Light infantry brigades. In their place a Armored Expeditionary Force has arrived consisting of the following forces:

56 T-100 Tanks

72 BMP-3 APCs

40 155 SPH

72 HEMMT Heavy Cargo Haulers

300 AXE All Terrain Vehicles.

The Infantry, the Helicopters, the vehicles, and their supplies begin the process of offloading at a port on the Eastern Coast of Italy. It is roughly a full day's drive and march from the DMZ (OOC: Meaning I don't know what the name of the city is at this time and I'm positioning my forces far enough away not to leverage a first strike blow as I'm landing them and wouldn't be able to do it from a ship.)

Offloading is estimated to take roughly 12 to 24 hours and the physical conditioning for the light infantry and mechanized infantry will begin immediately upon landing to keep them occupied and out of the way of the Engineers who have better things to do than to baby sit ham-fisted infantryman who tend to treat offloading like a marathon event of hurling things over the side of a ship.

General Janwal Faroun is left in charge of the Republic of Free Somal forces as Mad Dog Bob Denard has opted to return to his vacation.

With the destruction of the former Repubblica Italia, thousands of the Fascist soldiers have surrendered to Roman forces. General Mario Luigi has called for a cease-fire, as talks began with the New Repubblica Italia. Any Fascist soldiers that continue to fight against Roman arms will be swiftly put down. We will not tolerate another uprising.

Current talks going on are heavily based around gaining large tracts of the rest of the peninsula, from the Repubblica Italia.

The Repubblica Italiana, cedes the territories under the river Pò to the Roman Empire, and grants the construction of a military base near the town of Lignano, North-Eastern Lombardy. The base will be considered territory of the Italian Republic with military access to the Roman Empire. The Italian Government will not fund the construction of the base.
