The People's Will

Everything was done.

The war with Cainette had ended some weeks ago, and the people there had voted quite similarly to the Canadians. Luckily, the two most important things - the Canadian space-assets and its knowledge - had been secured, the former through a treaty with Rebel Army, the latter by sending the two previous Chairmen with a transport submarine to wherever they thought it would be safe. Not even Merkel knew to where they went.

And now that which the three Chairpersons had feared for had come.

A public announcement

Merkel stood on a podium, with a simple, white wall behind her. Not as usual, the Canadian flag.

"Ladies and Gentlemen.

Friends and Comrades.

As you all know, Canada has been a major power in the world for a long time indeed. In us, Rational Communism was shown to be a concept that worked well, better than some other governments.

However, the concept of 'True Democracy', which we have always kept going and going, can, on occasion be detrimental. In a true democracy, each man and each woman has a voice, and each man and woman can try to gather the voices of others to become a governmental official. There are no parties, no sides. Only individual people.

And now the People of Canada have voted and chosen. They have chosen to end the state as we know it. They have chosen to end Canada as the world knows it.

This country shall henceforth be under anarchy, but not the kind that most people associate with "Anarchy". We will continue to work together, for a better tomorrow, but there will be no officials. No governments, no leaders, no nothing. This is what our people have chosen for now, and this is perhaps the next logical step.

All treaties that Canada has will thus be void, with the exception of one, which guarantees Rebel Army access to all Canadian space assets. This includes: The Space Elevator, the Canadian spaceshuttles, the moonbases any anything else we have done in space.

Additionally, I ask the governments of Viniland and Tahoe to officially declare what formerly was Canada a protectorate. Perhaps new nations will arise, perhaps we will continue in this way, to a truly enlightened society. I ask the USA to not expand into formerly Canadian territory and instead protect it, should Viniland and Tahoe agree with you to do this.

Canada is no more.

Thank you for listening."

The announcement ended, and Merkel walked off the screen. A few minutes later, the cameras were shut off. Canada had ceased existing.

OOC: :(

IC: We (New England) are greatly shocked and saddened to hear about the collapse of Canada, one of the world's greatest nations and bastion of true democracy. It seems that with the collapse of its founder, and with several members leaving, Comintern is effectively defunct as New England is one of the few remaining.

With Tahoe and Viniland's permission, we would like to help protect the region of Canada the best we can.

OOC: I haven't left yet.

IC: We hope you are speaking for the United States as a whole, but if there wasn't a United States, the SRA would also love to protect Canada.

We have no problem with any american land becoming an american protectorate, however, the Marinas are a different story. I would suggest that the Pax Pacifica be the entity responsible for maintaining order and peace. We also recommend that the Canary islands be placed under a suitable african power for the same reasons.

I am sure Tahoe would not want to be fostered with entities far from its own lands, while Viniland, a nation who has focused on internal affairs would not wish to have to hold onto these farflung islands.

SIAC was starting to monitor transmissions, mainly screening for those originating from the pacific. They were looking for those concerning the former canadian islands, specially those from known wannabes in the pacific. Those islands deserved to stay in peace, not be fought over like some bits dropped from a table to the dogs.

Diplomats were also trying to contact the islands themselves, so that if PP peacekeepers were needed they were not met with Canadian weapons. The messages pledged defense, and assurances of security until their fate had been decided.

Contacting the Governor of the formerly canadian Marianas was quite easy. A simple phonecall was enough to get in touch with him.

Getting the man to agree that the garrison of the islands would not attack peacekeeper was quite easy. Canada was gone after all, and Aotearoa had been known as stable force, despite the arguably dark past of their ruler, LeVentNoir.

The defenses - naval railguns, AA-emplacements, anti-ship missiles and quite a bit more - were deactivated for the time being, until the fate of the islands could be determined. The soldiers continued their normal schedules, patrolling, training, et cetera, but would not interfere with peacekeepers from Pax Pacifica.

Canada was gone, and now they needed someone to be loyal to.

Edit, OOC: According to LVN I can tie up some loose ends, such as the Marianas or Canaries, after which I'll have no more business with Canuckistan.

Messages were exchanged, and it was decided that no peacekeepers would be moved yet, as there was no need. Imperial Wellington was dead, and LeVentNoir was not going to move troops to an area that did not need it. If the people wished to join, then that was a different story, and accommodations would have to be made.

Regardless of who, according to the Pax Pacifica, would receive the islands in the end: The people living on them would try fitting into that society as well as they could, and over time become fiercely loyal to their rulers, just as loyal as they had been to the Chairpersons of Canada, though they knew they'd have to live without the virtues of true democracy.

Knowing that its chances were poor, Yamato sent messages to the Marianas via cable, attempting to persuade that their democractic society would be honored.

It was perhaps all for nothing, but one could try.

With less than 10% of the islands' population being of Kyokujitsu-descent, the chances were indeed rather poor, despite the offer of democracy. The Governor justified this by saying that for the time being, being under the PP was better than rashly trying to integrate themselves into a society which they didn't know a bit, let alone learn their language.

The Yamato did, after all, have a society rather hard to understand with a language incredibly hard to learn for older people. This diminished the number of people who wanted to go there, which they would do by simply travelling there by boat or plane once the PP had decided.

Yamato knew that compared with Hansa, it was an extremely closesd society, which obviously meant it was out of the picture. So, it decided to take another approach.

Simply, it was 'using' the Kyokujitsujin's fear of the Lord to the south. Since the Pacific War, almost all Kyokujitsujins would rather die than be under GA rule. So, all Yamato had to do is tell those on the island that GA may annex the islands. This would lead to support for incorporation into Hansa.

If Yamato couldn't have the prize, the least it could do is to ensure a friendly nation got it.

These actions of Yamato would have two results:

Those of Kyokujitsu descent would try to petition the governor to join the Hansa rather then Aotearoa;

And if that would not happen and the Can. Marianas would become part of Aotearoa, these people would leave the islands for the Hansa or Yamato.

The television shut off and Sarah's head dropped to her hands in despair. With Canada's fall a greater part of the world was going to fall with it. Communism as a whole would no doubt cease to exist as it once did and more so, the world was now faced with a cluster of three mega states, none of which Sarah trusted in the slightest. All the technology, all of the advances, gone, everything gone and what was left was anarchy. What was left would be the competition of hegemony between Nords, Dragons, and Americans. She sighed and reached over for the bottle of vodka that was sitting on the table next to her. Quickly taking a swig she burned away any of the pain associated with these changes and tried to hold her composure. Perhaps now it was time to begin pulling out of isolation.

A knock on the door signaled Jess and Vikram Varma inside. "Milady our apologies for bothering you." Jess saw the liquor bottle and sighed. "Long night milady?"

"Oh no, just the end of the world and the beginning of Dragon and Nordic hegemony." She took another swig.

"Well there is still hope then, three blocs is still balance." Said Vikram

"One can hope." She turned towards them. "Now what is it that you wanted to talk to me about? Unless it was just about Canada?"

"Well it was a little more than that milady. The Canadian Marianas lay within our borders indefinitely. Members of the Diet believe that this land should belong to the Hansa. Shall we petition?"

Sarah rubbed her head, felt a zit that was beginning to appear and sighed again. She looked up at the map of Asia and nodded. "Yes I can do that, just give me a little time to relax for a moment and I'll put out the calls."

---

Excellency,

With Canada recently fallen into anarchy, the people of the Canadian Marianas require some degree of protection if they cannot safely do it themselves. While I have no problem with your people desiring total independence, the Hansa feels directly responsible for your well being, given that we control the other Marianas to your north and south. If you have been in contact with others about the same subject that is fine as well. I would just like to extend my hand to say, that the Hansa will protect you in any way whatever the cost. Canada was a great friend to us, for myself and my country to abandon that friendship in this time of need would be a sin to the entire world."

Sincerely,

Sarah Tintagyl

Lady Protector of the Hanseatic Commonwealth

Sarah would receive a simple response from the Governor, telling her that Aotearoa, in the name of the Pax Pacifica, had already contacted them and that they would for now acknowledge the PP as their protectors until it was decided what would happen with these islands. It would also tell her that, while Canada and the Hansa were quite good friends, one never knew how the populace would react, and what the eventual decision of the PP would be. Additionally, he wrote that a part of the population - a total of ~281 thousand people, including the garrison which was stationed there - were petitioning for joining the Hansa, these people msotly being of Kyokujitsu descent, which, in his opinion, explained the aversion to Aotearoa.

Nonetheless, he and the people would await the PP's decision patiently was with which he closed the letter.

The Alliance is rather surprised. However like GA we do not like the idea of having the canaries a series of islands not 50 Km's off our african coast being a protectorate of foreign powers.

"This is a sad day for the Americas and the world, even if it is due to the people's choice. Today, a peaceful, respectable, and advanced world leader is no more. Today we grieve for Canada, and the loss of a friend. In addition, the space elevator will be continue to operate the same way as under Canada, open to all. The only difference is that it shall be run by Rebel Army staff."

A small detachment of 1000 troops along with the civilian/Caelum staff would be sent over to the space elevator, to protect it from bandits and the like. The Canadian shuttles would be pressed into RA service, the Canadian emblem will remain out of respect, but with the RA one added next to it, and the moon base would continue it's construction, with more being build elsewhere. The RA would release the plans of the shuttles to some of it's various aerospace companies, so they could improve on it and create a better, more advanced version. Other knowledge would be pressed into various Caelum branches, and any and all Canadian engineers, scientists, astronauts, and their families would be offered employment, citizenship, and housing. Caelum had been given an unimaginable boost, and it would use that boost to great lengths.

The space elevator under construction is to be suspended indefinitely, as of today.

The roughly 817,000 people living in Estuaire, the province where the Space Elevator - also known as Equatorial Star - stood, gladly joined Rebel Army, having seen them as great friends of Canada. 20,000 soldiers were living in the province and they too asked to join Rebel Army, for they had nowhere else to go.

Thanks to a treaty made shortly before Canada's fall, Rebel Army was no in possession of 14 Endeavour-class spaceshuttles and 4 Pegasus class spaceshuttles (the latter of which had no drive, as they had been planned to be equipped with fusion drives), additionally to the Space Elevator and any and all knowledge about space, spaceshuttles, et cetera, p.p. that Canada had acquired.

Changing the jurisdiction in the province from Canadian to Rebel Army-an went smoothly.

OOC: Hawk: He got my elevator, so now he doesn't have to waste billions to build his. :awesome:

The people would soon (after the change of jurisdiction was complete) would receive their own local government, elected by and from the people of Equatorial Star, representation in the RA's Knesset (federal government), and other RA services. The soldiers were also welcomed into the RA, with open arms at that. If they wished, they would also be allowed to join the RA military, being employed to protect the very place which they were currently on, unless they wished otherwise. The RA troops originally set to be sent to Equatorial Star would be sent elsewhere, as the current local garrison was more then enough to protect the new state. Research on the fusion drives would continue, and in time, the Pegasus would soar above all.

The soldiers would gladly join the RA armed forces, many of them already experienced with Estuaire and the combat doctrines needed in this region, which would possibly save the RA quite a bit money in training.

Otherwise, the industries and people in Estuaire kept working towards whatever was needed; Moonbase-modules, spare parts for the shuttles, or anything else related to the elevator and previous Canadian research.

Some of the soldiers (mainly head officers) would be stationed in a few RA HQs, to teach and be taught tactics with and between other RA generals and officers.

The industries would receive what Canadian plans/knowledge they do not have, in addition to the RA's research. This would allow them to stay the head of their fields, in addition to letting them compete with fellow RA corporations and firms.
