There were several forums no longer used that are still up as archives. I thought they were lost. Apparently IPBfree got hit but neither invisionplus nor invisionfree were.
Invisionplus looks horrendous And invisionfree is ran by Invision on Invision Power Board 1.

Still better than AvidGamers if anyone else remembers using those waaaay back in the day. Most of the archives were active no more recently than mid 2006 though one forum I have gets used as storage for miscellaneous things when I don't have access to my home computer, a flash drive, or my external. When I get home I back up the data.
phpBB is ugly. I prefer the look of SMF or IPB. Losing IPBfree is a disappointment because not everyone who plays this game has the ability to pay for hosting, but stronger communities will survive and move on.
To be honest, they all look pretty horrible with the default styles, but thats why there are hundreds and hundreds of free forum styles out there for each of them. phpBB3's default style is pretty advanced (tableless, it was designed with web standards compliance in mind, its default style is W3C compliant both to CSS 2.1 and XHTML 1.0 strict, I did a check on MK's forums, it has errors on both CSS and XHTML, and the CN forums have even more errors, although these might be due to issues done when doing minor work to them.) phpBB3's default style (prosilver) is an amazing style in terms of its structure, and has served as an amazing base for hundreds of styles which alot of people (myself included) find very attractive.
