Dutch Elections

The Eurasian Union has determined to hold elections in the Protectorate of the Netherlands. While near thousands originally turned out to be elected, the Union has narrowed this down to three candidates with significant enough support.

Candidate 1

Stefan Maarten

Maarten is an older gentleman who has been involved in Dutch politics since the original Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. Originally the second elected leader of the Netherlands, he was also the last leader of the Republic and was well-known for his strong opposition of Germany and of Nordland. He was freed from prison, wherein he had written several books on peace, democracy, and the failures of Nordland.

He is regarded as a Democratic Socialist, and is currently the leader of the Nederlandse Democratische Unie (Dutch Democratic Union). Popular opinion polls reveal that he is in the lead in most areas, especially what were cities and assorted refugee camps. His foreign policy does not discriminate; while he has no positive or negative opinion regarding the Eurasian Union, he has a favorable demeanor in regard to the EFTA. He is a strong supporter of assorted freedoms and of democratic government.

He holds a massive chunk of the popular opinion polls' at 74%.

Candidate 2

Roosevelt Hoffman

Hoffman, pictured above with his son, is leader of the Unie Partij (Union Party), a strong supporter of a very small government which would tie the numerous provinces of the old Netherlands together near as loosely as the Eurasian Union binds the assorted nations of Europe together. Essentially each of the seven provinces would be self-governing, with the government retaining only a small portion of power.

He is considered the most conservative candidate by far, and under his plan, the only thing which the government would run would be the military in addition to collecting small taxes. The system which he proposes is quite near feudalism.

Candidate 3

Deman Knickerbacker

Knickerbacker is a well-known Nordic Socialist and one of the 'most hated men in the Netherlands'. He has a significant backing from the former Nordic Socialists in the Netherlands, whose vote constitutes roughly 12% of the population in the Netherlands. (OOC: Keep in mind this is the place where Nordsoc was born, so it would make sense that some would still be around.). He is very outspoken regarding Maarten, and he is often said to absolutely despise Maarten.

Knickerbacker is the candidate put forth by the Nordic Socialist Party and has stated that he promises to 'Return the glory of the old Nordland'. Outside of the Nordic Socialist Party, he is not particularly well-liked by the populace.

OOC: I figured I'd try something different in making this protectorate a nation. Yes, I am rerolling in the Netherlands, regardless of who wins. I assume that Knickerbacker won't, and frankly RP'ing as Hoffman would not be much fun. Vote for who you want, but Colbert Maarten is the guy that I want to win :P

My previous nation's land will remain in the Commonwealth and Voodoo will rule it....obviously.

It might be better to wait to hold an election until the postwar chaos subsides, the war just ended today and not all of warring parties have left the country yet; and most of the country is still underwater.

It’s also unlikely a significant portion of the refugee population (which likely constitutes most of the Dutch people) will be able to vote considering their displacing displacement.

*Sarcasm* "But then how would they be able to get their favorable candidate into office?"

Trust Generalissimo’s armchair analysis, despite Generalissimo’s questionable sanity, he possesses an uncommon sense of common sense.

OOC: Where's the Dutch diaspora at, anyways?
Either they left or were killed by the crossfire, carpet bombing, flooding, fuel air bombs, and mass artillery.

See the Dutch-Dranagg War thread for additional information in posts relating to WhiteCross aide, French refugee assistance, and Dranagg population movements.

Sverige backs Stefan Maarten. But Sverige is wondering why he is dressed in a foreign flag? And why he has a foreign surname? The same goes for Knickerbacker. We suspect that they are not Dutch born.

Then there's the dutch island of St. Maarten.

OOC: Maarten is a first name, not a last name, if its a last name is should be Maartens or something like that. Also Knickerbacker was a 16th century last name, its hasn't been used in any part of the Netherlands since ages. Closed resemblance would be Bakker or a derivative of it. And yes people do migrate, I just don't like someone RP'ing the Netherlands in a weird way :).
