Following the unilateral declaration of independence, residents of North-Eastern Italy trooped to the polls Today in the first election since the birth of the Italian State. Residents in the territory, which was purged of fascist authorities by the new "Esercito Italiano" (Italian Army) and declared itself as an independent state, cast votes for a 125-seat parliament.

"Today's election is a test of our people's maturity, a test of the stability of our democracy," Italian President Giorgio Almirante told reporters after he cast his ballot. "We are voting today for an independent Italy, out of the blocks, out of ideologies, we are alone, but we are free."

Meanwhile, just over the cease-fire line, the remnants of the Esercito Nazionale Repubblicano (National Republican Army), are merely disbanding and only a few armed groups are forming armed resistance against Roman troops.

The roman invasion and the fall of the GNR are emotional issues in Northern Italy, which is now home to refugees from conflicts in both places. The sight of the enemies marching ahead from all directions as "free world" countries under the patronage of the Hansa has led many Italian to criticize Junio Borghese for bringing the country into a losing war.

Judging from their campaign poster, Movimento Sociale Italiano appear to be a bunch of counter-culture hippy rabble.

Or young people with high aspirations who wish to change their country to what they perceive as better.

The Kingdom of Bavaria supports the MSI.
