Population Surpasses 1 Million!

In the most recent census taken, the population of the country is revealed to have jumped to over 1 million people. The large growth is attributed to the overwhelming advancements in the infrastructure of the country. The majority of the population continues to live in the Central and Coastal Territories, however, all territories recorded positive growth. This is surely a monumental occasion in our country's history, and one that will be recorded in the history books.

Military Restructuring in Progress!

Due to the increasing size of the population, advancement of the country and new ways wars are being fought, a restructuring of the military is taking place. The main part of the plan is the moving of 2000 reserve troops to active duty. The second part of the plan involves a drastic reduction in the number of active duty tanks. The main tank force has been cut by 75%, with half of the decommissioned tanks moving to reserve duty while the others will be put into storage in a battle-ready state. These measures are bound to make the Marscurian Pakistani army more formidable as well as more economical.

Military Continues to Expand!

With wars breaking out all over the world, more troops have been removed from the reserves and pressed into active service. This week, an additional 3,000 troops were added to the active army. With this, 26,000 soldiers serve active duty, and 78,000 troops remain in the reserves. While there are no plans to go to war, it is always best to remain prepared. Fifty tanks remain in active service, 200 are in the reserves, and 78 tanks remain in battle-ready storage. We all offer our support and thanks to the brave men and women serving in our active armed forces.

From Quetta:

Early Snows Blanket Much of the Country!

This morning, citizens of the Western Territories and the Northern Territories woke up to find themselves in a winter wonderland. Storms throughout the night and into the early morning blanketed much of the territories, including the capitals of Quetta and North Khyber. Much of the snow melted on the roads, allowing traffic to continue as normal. This is economically good news, as tourism from skiing makes up a significant amount of the winter economy. Since schools are closed on Saturdays, the streets were crowded with children and their parents, engaging in snowball fights with local members of the army. While temperatures are expected to rise above freezing later in the day, the morning was certainly fun.

From Moloco:

River Port Project Declared a Failure!

Work on the river port of Moloco was halted indefinitely when a fairly large portion of the work collapsed into the Indus River. Luckily, no one was killed in the collapse, as it happened before work hours started. Erosion charts and water samples show that erosion has quickened in the area around the port, and water currents are too harsh to allow the continuation of construction. With this, the TriCites remain the only functioning port area. Surveyors have been mapping the coastline of the newly acquired territories, in hopes of finding a more suitable location for a port.

2,000 New Troops Trained. Army of the South Created!

A new volunteer army has been created. These 2,000 troops have pledged to protect Marscurian Pakistan's overseas territory, The Island. The troops have trained in the mountains to become accustomed to below 0 temperatures and harsh conditions. The new army will be stationed at the small airbase in Friendtown, the capital of The Island. They will also be equipped with special equipment that can stand the cold. The army will also be called upon to aid our ODP partners, Troina, if they need our help. We wish the best to our boys in white.

Grand Stadium to be Built!

Today, the Sultan announced the start of an ambitious building project. In the arid flats of the Western Territories, a massive raceway is to be built. The stands are reported to be able to hold 100,000 people! The racetrack will feature car races, horse and camel races, motorcycle races and even air races. The massive construction project will take over a year to complete, but it is supposed to be a marvel of engineering.

SOTS_MosEspa_WIP01.jpg

The massive stands will hold over 100,000 people, and will contain restrooms, concession stands and other vendors behind the seating. The mountain on the right will be hollowed out, and will store the vehicles and animals while they wait for the race. The structures on the side of the mountain will hold the pit and maintenance crews so that they can get a good look at the track. On the bridge spanning the raceway, VIP's will watch the race from amazing seats, while the enourmous structure in the middle of the stands will house the Sultan and other world leaders while they watch the race. When the race goes to the other side of the mountain video cameras at regular intervals will catch the action and project it onto large television screens for the crowd to see. It will surely be a sight to see when it is finished.

Nation's First Mosque Completed!

Today, the Sultan kept his promise. He had said that the country would have its first mosque by the time Eid Al-Adha, and today, the Friday of Eid, the Marscury Mosque will open for prayers. The structure is massive, with the ability to house over 100,000 worshipers in its main halls and courtyards. Over the country, protests have sprung up amongst the large Jewish minority, who feel like they have been ignored. So far, these protests have been non-violent, and have usually dispersed by themselves.

Economic News

Marscurian Aerial Military Works to Close!

It was a number of factors that caused this section of Marscurian Military Works to close. The original spur to get sales worked, but once all the orders had been delivered, all that was left was supplying the Marscurian Pakistani Air Force. Since the airforce is now grounded, sales have dropped to near zero, and the company is hemorrhaging too much money to be kept open. All 3 manufacturing plants have been slated to close, putting an estimated 2,000 people out of work. To make up some of its lost money, the company plans to rent designs and machinery to other companies on a monthly basis.

This was the last aircraft built by MAMW. This transport helicopter was destined for the nation of Troinia.

Marscurian Military Works Profits Fall!

This fiscal quarter, MMW profits have fallen from 12.1M Marscurian Pakistani Rupees (MPR) to just over 1M MPR. The lack of foreign sales due to the rise of international companies is cited as the main reason for this decline. Eighty percent of all weapons made in this company are destined for the Marscurian Pakistani Army, while the remaining 20% go to a mix of police and foreign armies. So far, no job losses have been reported, but MMW says that if business does not pick up, lay-offs will begin soon.

Tannery Output Doubles!

Looking over lists of exports, government officials have noticed a sharp increase in the exporting of furs and leather. Most of these products are destined for Europe, where they will be turned into clothing and accessories. Leather exports have risen from 2000 tons this June to over 5000 tons this November. Unfortunately, with the rise in demand of such objects, poaching has steadily risen. Last month alone, customs officials confiscated 2 snow leopard pelts, 13 markhor skins and 2 bear pelts, along with several dozen baby Indus Crocodiles bound for the international pet trade. Increased patrols in national parks and wildlife habitats have done little to stem the flow of illegal goods, and the sentence for poaching will be risen to 40 years in jail.

The_leather_tannery.jpg

Here is a large tannery in the small town of Miranshah. Facilities like these have popped up in many towns and cities, increasing the fur and leather output of the country.

OOC: Got a factory, and since fur is one of my primary resources, I thought I would do something like this.

National Chain Of Clinics To Be Constructed!

Today, the Sultan has started his ambitious plan to open clinics around the country. So far, the only places where medical clinics exist is are Marscury and the TriCites. The move comes after the new census shows that although people in the cities live into the 60's, in rural areas, the life expectacy stands at an appauling 53 years old. Coupled with future endevors, the goal is to improve the health of the who country. The clinics will be opened in every town with at least 300 people. Construction has already begun in several of the larger towns, and is expected to pick up in the near future.

The basic design of a clinic. The buildings will all follow the same plan for easy construction, and will primarily be built with concrete. Each building will contain several examination rooms, a small laboratory for blood tests and other lab work, and an x-ray machine. Territorial Representatives Appointed!

With the ever-growing population of the country, direct rule by the Sultan is impossible to implement throughout the whole country. Because of this, Sultan Mikhail has installed representatives to all the territories. All the representatives are members of the royal family, and are answerable to the Sultan. While they're duties include expressing the Sultan's will and reporting situations to him, they hold no real power. While the Sultan will try his hardest to be as active in the affairs of the country, these men and women will make sure that things run as smoothly as possible.

Nation To Begin Universal Polio Vaccinations!

Today, the nation has recieved its first shipments of vaccine for the polio virus. Within weeks, there well be enough to vaccinate every man, woman and child in the country. The Sultan had this to say on the occasion:

"This is a terrible disease that has plagued mankind for thousands of years. This vaccine has been around for over half a century, and for any country to still have cases of polio running rampant in the year 2010 is frankly a disgrace. I am ordering every man, woman and child in the land to recieve this vaccine. It is now national law to be vaccinated against the polio virus. Not only is our health affected, but as is our economy. The loss of workforce and the money that goes into treating those who have been crippled by this disease is enormous, and it is something we need to stop. I have received my shot, as has my wife and all members of the royal court. I am calling on everyone to receive this, for the good of the country!"

The order has gone out, and everyone in the country, from the cities to the remote villages, is receiving the vaccine. Vaccination is not a choice, anyone who resists will be subdued and will receive the vaccination.

From North Khyber:

Power Plant Explosion, 6 Dead!

Today, around 1:50 am, a blast shook the North Khyber Coal Power Plant. A wayward spark ignited coal dust in the storage area, leading to a massive blast, which was only made worse when it reached the turbines. The blast woke people around the city, and the fire department was at the scene in a little over 15 minutes. The interior of the plant is almost competely destroyed, is expected to be leveled and rebuilt. Poor maintanence is the most likely cause of the blast, and no foul play or sabotage is suspected. A total of six workers died, and 31 were seriously injured. Until power can be re-routed from other areas, the majority of the Northern Territories, including the capital of North Khyber, sit in darkness.

From Sapta Sindhu National Park:

Large Forest Fires Break Out
Earlier this week, several of the heavily forested areas outside the Sapta Sindhu National Park have begun to burn out of control. As crews try frantically to contain the blaze, the dry conditions and strong winds are only feeding the flames. It was determined that lightning strikes during a recent storm are the cause for the blazes, which have burned thousands of acres outside one of the largest parks in the country. With the country in the dry seasons, and months until the monsoons arrive, the blaze is extremely dangerous, and many villages near the fire have been evacuated. So far, the fire has not reached the park, and is still several miles out. So far, progress has been slow in extinguishing the blaze, but many of the firefighting commanders on the ground assure us that the blaze will be contained, and it is only a matter of time.

The Kingdom of Cochin offers the services of its Aerial Firefighting Teams to control this wild fire. Associated with the Ministry of Natural Resources this fleet of aircrafts and elite airborne fire fighters can be mobilized at an hour's notice to Sapta Sindhu National Park. They just need coordination from Marscurian Pakistan ATC and access to a reasonably large fresh water reservoir within a 50 kilometer range from the national park.
