Citing an early morning attack on a Republic controlled RADAR station 35 miles from the RoA-PRA border, the Republic of Africa hereby declares war on the People's Republic of Africa for breaking the Non-Aggression Pact signed by the PRA and Director Frontino.

This attack was not undocumented. Commonwealth soldiers noticed a PRA advance of a covert team to the RADAR station, and opened fire. The PRA soldiers returned fire, and destroyed the RADAR building. Afterwards, messages such as "Down with the Republic!" and "Long live Communism!" were heard on civilian and military radios following the explosion. I do not know what caused these soldiers to destroy a RADAR station 35 miles from our common border, but it is obviously a clear-cut declaration of war by firing upon our soldiers and attempting to demoralize the Republic peoples.

We urge the world to assist us in overthrowing this anarchistic regime and the Republic calls all allies to bear arms against the PRA.

The West African Military had been mobilised as soon as the declaration of war had been issued. In the Chad Province, the 1st Shock Army which consisted of the 3rd Armoured Division, 7th Armoured Division, 2nd Mechanised Division, 8th Mechanised Division, 13th Mechanised Division, 14th Mechanised Division, 6th Infantry Division, 7th Infantry Division and 17th Infantry Division began to move taking position on the right side of Chad Province. 2nd Shock Army which was made up of seven divisions and had up to recently been stationed in Cameroon Province had also mobilised and entered the line on the left flank.

Operation Swift Strike, Day One

At around 2am local time the first attacks began with around one hundred fighter aircraft launching air strikes against defensive positions and any airfields near the border. Land based BGM-109C Tomahawk Cruise Missiles and OTR-23 Oka Tactical Ballistic Missiles carrying HE Fragmentation and Submunition warheads were fired at targets further inside the border.

At around 4am, a massive barrage along the areas along the north Chad Province border opened with M109A6 Paladin 155mm Self Propelled Howitzers and M240 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems reaching deeply to the north while M119A1 105mm Howitzers and M777 155mm Howitzers fired on the areas just inside the border.

The first thrusts were made across the border opposite the Tibesti Mountains by the 3rd Armoured Division and 7th Armoured Division supported by the 2nd Mechanised Division and 13th Mechanised Division. The tactics employed in the first few hours would be a mixture of shock tactics and extensive use of supporting fire from the ground artillery and air strikes. The advance would however be limited.

With West African movements, the 91,450 man strong force began bombarding any defenses or airfields in Mali and Burkina Faso. The 418 T-80s began to encroach the border, the infantry not far behind on their trucks. While most moved into Mali and Burkina Faso, the 1st Mixed Independent Brigade moved to secure a front line against a likely PRA counter-attack. The Sturmtigers and BM-21s began to bombard anything that the infantry and armor had not taken out as the Tunguska vehicles searched the skies for any enemy air power.

In the north, Theater Group Nigeria began advancing to secure a frontline against another probable PRA counter attack. This line would be held by Ghost Division soldiers, and an innumerable amount of artillery, mortars, armor and BM-21s and Sturmtigers. Throughout the day, the BM-21s and Sturmtigers would bombard the enemy, firing directly after every artillery and mortar volley. The Commonwealth Air Force was finally able to flex it's muscle here, with fighter planes and "Pave Lows" with the 1AACR patrolling the skies.

Legion Announcement

The People's Republic of Africa for the most part has had an honorable and peaceful history. Legion finds it difficult to believe that there was any sort of attack what so ever. Our skepticism stems from Republic of Africa's recent adventurism against the Empire of Wadagou and their failure to provide any factual information to support their claims of atrocities being performed against the Khine government members.

With this in mind we call upon the Republic of Africa to halt their movements into to the People's Republic of Africa and all for a 3rd Party Investigation to take place to determine the exact nature of this situation.

Port Sudan

The General Alert System is activated in which no less than a full Legion Battle Group is called to active duty. 175,000 Legion Soldiers are pulled from their beds and rushed to their depots to man their vehicles and planes around Port Sudan. Every single Main Battle Tank, MLRS, ADA Platform, and a slew of other vehicles that have been waiting to be blooded in battle are buried under a swarm of men and women as they make ready to roll to war if need be.

While this takes place food, fuel, munitions, and parts are being loaded onto Legion HVM Transports and formed into high speed convoys and sent to the Legion/Aeon border. With them go several mobile Legion Engineering detachments that are tasked with creating way stations to repair, fuel, and keep the soon to be moving Legion force mobile in the field.

Forward Airfields are scouted for the Legion Attack Helicopter Squadrons that are attached to the Armored Divisions and refueling and re-arming team are sent forward to prepare those sites for usage. Despite the level of confusion within the mob of men and women the practiced nature of Legion's deployments allow the men and women to make their way to the border and prepare in record time.

A total of 900 Main Battle Tanks, 1100 IFVs, 300 MLRS, 250 Grizzly ADA Vehicles, and nearly 3400 other vehicles begin to thunder to life in and around Port Sudan as the men and women of the Legion prepare to march on the People's Republic of Africa to deliver them from the morons that are attacking yet another African country with absolutely zero pretext.

#Flash Traffic, Priority Message Aeon, Classified#

We seek permission to cross into your territory to move into the People's Republic of Africa. We'll require support of fuel, munitions, and spare parts to keep our convoy moving at full speed. Time is of the essence. We do not require your physical support beyond materials at this time as we see this as an attempt on the Republic of Africa to draw other nations into a larger conflict.

We leave you to do what you feel you need to do.

OOC: I'm also requesting that you do a spy roll for me to determine if this attack "actually" happened or not, I'll leave that up to you to determine how to go about it.

#Flash Traffic, Priority Message UFE, Classified#

We request that you ask the Republic of Africa to halt their offensive at this time. The Republic of Africa has in the recent past attempted to attack other African Nations with little or no real cause. We fully understand you have a treaty obligation to the Republic of Africa, but it is our believe the Republic is a dangerously destabilizing force in Africa that needs to be brought to heel sooner, rather than later.

#Flash Traffic, Priority Message Austria, Classified#

As per our discussion regarding keeping the Austrian government suitably informed of our intentions we wish to inform your government that it is quite likely Legion will be entering into a state of war against the Republic of Africa for their attack on the People's Republic of Africa.

We do not request your support at this time as the situation will no doubt cause intense diplomatic conflict for your nation.

We leave you to do what you feel best in this situation.

As satellites detected the war movements forces rushed to the border between the occupation zone and the People's Republic of Africa. At all times U-2s, F-1s and F-99s were kept in the air to maintain the sovereignty of the occupation zone. If any PRA or RoA aircraft were to cross over the border they would be given two warnings upon which a warning shot would be fired and eventually the enemy aircraft taken down. In total 50,000 soldiers would be deployed along the southern border in addition to 500 M-1 Cerberus MBTs and about 1,500 other vehicles consisting of a combination of all vehicles out of the Future Combat Program. Forces on the ground maintained similar rules of engagement, plenty of warning was to be provided before action was taken.

Notice was given to both sides of Athenian neutrality and copies of the rules of engagement of defensive forces.

Legion 2nd Announcement

"Consider this a formal declaration of war on the Republic of Africa."

Joint Legion Project Territory

Lt. General Bari Mustapha orders his two armored divisions to immediately attack the Republic of Africa. It is a classic blitzkrieg attack of a massive armored thrust just across the border to fix the Republic's attentions between two different forces. The forces available to him are as follows:

Port Sudan Division

168 Main Battle Tanks
196 IFVs
72 Grizzly ADA Vehicles
48 MLRS Vehicles
24 155 SPAs
698 other vehicles

West African Division

276 Main Battle Tanks
76 IFVs
72 Grizzly ADA Vehicles
48 MLRS Vehicles
24 155 SPAs
698 other vehicles

Each division has its own organic attack helicopter squadron of 12 Attack Helicopters.

The lead of the attack is carried out by a series of quick in and out drone flights. Other intelligence gleaned by the long occupation of the border is put into play as well. Legion Special Operations Group Members manning border points in hidden locations quietly observe Republic movements to keep their eyes on the enemy dispositions. These quick flights and spotters give the Legion at least some idea of what is a civilian target and what isn't.

With this information the combined force of 48 155mm SPAs and 96 MLRS vehicles hurl their deadly payloads at Republic units across the border. As these volleys hurl their way across the Legion Attack Helicopters fly hard and low to attack critical command and control centers along with radar sites. As this happens the Legion Air Strike Wing takes to the air and unleashes a rapid series of air attacks on local Republic air bases within close proximity of the the Legion Joint Territory.

Once this has happened the Legion Main Battle Tanks and their IFV companions take off cross the border to shoot up anything wearing a Republic uniform or flying a Republic Flag. Their orders are to hit hard, smash everything, leave nothing standing, and get back across the border within three hours. Total distance of all Legion assets into Republic territory is no more than 100 miles for aircraft and 15 miles for Armored units.

6th Corps consisting of 8th Infantry Division and 13th Infantry Division which had been deployed in Benin had redeployed and had tried to counter attack but suffered heavy losses as the mostly static units were mauled by the attack. The shattered remnants were forced to pull back completely to Cameroon, exposing the other units to the onslaught.

The Chad offensive had been halted just twenty miles into its attack as the news reached their commanders. The new plan was now to halt and wait for new orders. However the citizens had also received the news, with shock and disbelief. The news screamed of "Surprise attack destroys two divisions" and "Legion on the warpath". 2nd Shock Army which were heading west to meet the attack were paralysed by desertions and a new state of semi-anarchy, stalling their movement across the country.

President Stanley Mgambo was also in trouble. He had been ordered to step down and be replaced by the Vice President Thérèse Sitrase. The last straw had been when the military had openly defied his order to use nuclear weapons, effectively spelling the end for him.

An order was given for 1st Shock Army to withdraw back across the border, with orders to "only defend the border areas and break contact with the enemy". Also publicly, the declaration of an armistice had been made with the first steps of potential domestic reforms.

From: Lt. General Bari Mustapha

Allah commands us to give charity to those in need. Your nation has embarked on a dangerous course of action. MY government has empowered me to make you this offer:

Rid yourself of those foreign influences that are causing you to take arms against fellow Africans. Legion will secure your borders, Legion will protect your nation until you request that we leave you to your own devices. We do not ask for your surrender, we do not ask for reparations, we do not ask for you to humiliate yourselves. We merely ask you to reclaim your national identity that you lost after merging with another nation.

Please make a formal announcement seperating your nation from these foriegn influences and Legion will stand by you as brothers and sisters.

3rd Legion Announcement

"Legion will be assisting the government of West Africa with the securing of their border. The war against the rest of the Republic will continue until they surrender."

Legion Joint Territory

The Legion Airborne Regiment is quickly loaded onto waiting C-130 Aircraft. They've been briefed for their mission of acting as a security barrier between the People's Republic of Africa and this breakaway section of the Republic of Africa. Their commanding officer is a veteran of the Legion drop on Kickapoo Valley and is well versed in Airborne Operations, but this Operation is one that leaves even him a bit perplexed.

"So are you saying we are to take along Sandcats and other vehicles with us?" Colonel Ben Raines asks.

"Yes, you'll be staging out of a Republic Airbase so moving directly to the border to secure it won't be difficult. Just act as a Legion presence until the Armored boys show up in force. We've called back the original West African Division, who didn't even get that far away and they'll be unloading shortly. Talk about a bunch of short tempers, some of those boys haven't seen their wives in years," replies Mustapha.

"Alright, so we fly north, land, deploy, and then wait for the Armor show up to relieve us. What happens if the PRA gets a bug up their rears and counter-attacks?" asks Raines.

"Run for it is my suggestion, that's why we are sending you in with Sandcats, they are great for running," Mustapha elaborates.

Legion Armored Divisions

The two Legion Armored Divisions very carefully proceed across the border into West Africa. They render aid where they can, but movement is important. More often than not they simply call in the location of casualties they find and keep moving towards the still fighting Republic of Africa forces. It is imperative that the Legion forces be in place at the right time to catch the Republic between to forces to crush it completely.

Fall back to Base line Alpha. Operation is compromised, repeat, operation is compromised. Divert approximately 50 MAA vehicles, 200 tanks and 30,000 soldiers to assist with defense of Togo and Benin.

Secretly, two Oka missiles were prepared with sarin warheads and aimed at both Legion forces and where a PRA counter-attack was likely. All units were ordered to prepare for chemical agents present on battlefield.

[i]
The remaining forces of the now broken African Republic will see to reason and halt its attack on the PRA at once. Had you not been so brash, I would have gladly ordered my followers to serve as a 3rd party to investigate your quarrel with the PRA. Instead, we find ourselves attempting to calm the fires of war - a flame so volatile, so irrational, that it threatens to engulf our entire continent.

Time and time again, Africa has been able to do what so many other continents have never been able to accomplish - protect our own, keep the peace within our borders.

Ever since the Mechodamian states collapsed into anarchy in what seems like ages ago, its pieces have been subjected to a myriad of fates. How can you hope to reclaim your noble birthright, your place amongst the most greatest of nations, by constantly involving yourselves in such unneeded squabbles? Africa's pride has been lost, foreigners dot our landscape like grains of sand - they come to 'help us', because we clearly cannot help ourselves.

Perhaps Nod loved to watch as the rest of the continent burned around it, its Executive Ministry content with lying safe behind its citadel walls of tyranny- but not the Aeon. We weep tears of inconsolable sorrow for each African subjected to the 'second-class citizen' label that has been affixed so unjustly upon our chests. We should not be pitied - we are capable of so much more, we do not need to be rescued from ourselves - we should form our own indomitable collectives on the foundations of mutual peace, security and trust.

We must not fail now. We will repeat our solemn declaration.

Heed our words - the Republic of Africa must cease its offense against the PRA immediately, withdraw back to pre-war boundaries. Should you choose to do so, I will personally vouch for you when talks of recompense and retribution inevitably arise from the PRA, and the Legion. Together, all of Africa will have a chance to settle old scores, discard the chains of isolationism and cement a lasting peace from this debacle.

Should you choose to reject this offer of peace... then I am truly saddened at what must be done. I pray you make the right choice.

Official Announcement from The People's Republic of Africa:

Let it be known that in no way did the People's Republic of Africa engage in any form of agressive military action with its neighbor, The Republic of Africa. Furthermore, citing Article II of our nations' NAP:
If one nation is attacked by the opposite nation, the nation being attacked may defend themselves, but not attack aggressively until it is properly determined that the attacks were indeed from the other nation and not another group.
With that stated above, it is inherently clear that the PRA was never informed of the matter, and as such, it is the Republic of Africa which has violated our Non-Aggression Pact. We wish to see peace in the region, but cannot turn a blind eye to these violent attacks on our nation. We therefore demand that the former Republic of African states withdraw from the PRA.

I understand your nation took grievous harm during this insidious attack on your borders. The Republic of Africa has been torn in two. The West African Republic has dropped out of the war and we believe they are open to speaking with you regarding this situation. We've begun establishing a security zone between your Southern border and their Northern Border. We'd take it as a courtesy if you'd not proceed south through our security zone.

The two Armored Divisions renamed, LAF-Disco, are waiting patiently for their orders to proceed. A third armored division is being offloaded while they wait. This division is titled the 3rd Armored for the purposes of this Operation to avoid any undue conflict with the other West African Division that took the 3rd Armored's place not so long ago. Heavy security patrols, a strong Combat Air Group, and Legion Special Operations Group teams tensely keep their eyes peeled along the border between the the Legion Joint Territory and the Commonwealth of Africa.

Lt. General Beckwith sighs again as he chafes under the strain of waiting for Aeon's permission to proceed through their territory. The massive column of nearly six thousand vehicles waits along the border with hundreds of aircraft dropping water and food to keep them fed and ready for war. Extra convoys of HVM Transports move back and forth bringing up more in the way of badly needed munitions and spare parts to repair vehicles that weren't quite up to the task of making it all the way out of their depots. Despite his annoyance he does admit that the wait allows him to spend precious time organizing his forces and getting them ready to fight.

Time that he is using to the fullest, even if it annoys him to death.

ooc: redacting a move I made earlier. I was under the impression that Curristan was right next to Ghana, and not Markus. My earlier attack still stands, just not the advance into West Africa as West Africa is an entire nation away from me.
