  1. Wow, you guys are neat. Glad your our buddies, if we ever get in a bar fight, your with us, right?

    Right?

    ...right?

    ...

    :P

Congrats though Gramlins, lotsa hard work to pull that off... 200 more members and you'll literally be the equivalent of the CN 300. :awesome:

  2. To call our IO sycophants is foolish. They have shown no behaviour that would justify being labeled such. They work for the Body Republic, and always have.

I was not refering to the IOs, to whom must they be sycophants? Instead, I was refering to elements of the lower government and the Body Republic itself who wish to curry the favor of the elite. I doubt that the NPO, out of nearly every organization in history, lacks them.

Try not to be so ignorant and plainly foolish.

I can only operate on what I hear. And of the two viewpoints, the fact that the announcements and flowery self-commendations of the Order seem so exaggerated, like propaganda, makes it difficult to accept them at face value (I know something about effective propaganda ;) ).

    OOC alert!

For example, as is well documented Stalin's 5 Year plan, although in certain ways successful, was built on forced collectivization, slave labor, and siezure of the wealth of the peasants. Yet here is what Stalin himself wrote in complete contradiction to the policies he implemented:

The successes of our collective-farm policy are due, among other things, to the fact that it rests on the voluntary character of the collective-farm movement and on taking into account the diversity of conditions in the various regions of the U.S.S.R. Collective farms must not be established by force. That would be foolish and reactionary. The collective-farm movement must rest on the active support of the main mass of the peasantry. Examples of the formation of collective farms in the developed areas must not be mechanically transplanted to under-developed areas. That would be foolish and reactionary. Such a "policy" would discredit the collectivization idea at one stroke.

And, even as he condemned the concept of forced collectivization, he was implementing it!

In a similar manner an institution can condemn an action or profess principles, and yet act in reality totally differently from what is said, in plain sight no less.

  3. Yes, I am sure you have many bitter failures who couldn't cut it to choose from in building your distorted view of the Order.

Perhaps, there are always two sides to a story. Overall, however, they have generally influenced my view of the Order (although not necessarily theoretical ideology) more than Order supporters have. This is based on character judgements and assessment performance (although to be honest I have found you, Zhadum, to be decent and intelligent).

Checking the board statistics, on slow days we have hundreds of PMs. On busy days we can get thousands. This is not only patently false but completely impractical.

Administrators need not check every PM, merely those of suspicious characters, as it were. As I am not an NPO forum admin I cannot know one way or another for certain, but based on testimony and logic it makes sense to me.

No, checking for people not doing what they are supposed to be is a function of the Imperial Staff. Secret police would be extremely redundant...

...Indeed, we go out of our way to promote people debating freely on matters of structure and policy so that we may find a better way.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

So, in tl;dr terms, engage your brain before you engage your mouth. Know what you are talking about before speaking on it. You were wrong on every point.

    You would say so ;)

Nevertheless, we can perhaps discuss this on IRC some time.

  4. In a fraoncoist institution such as the NPO is described to be, the body republic should be free to question and inquire, their knowledge and worldview shaped by the logic and reason of the Leadership. In this way the institution can move forward into the future easily, as new ideas are implemented and old, inferior ways discarded.

However, to my understanding, this is not the case in Pacifica. Personal Messages are monitored for toughtcrime, an entire survellience and secret police network exists monitoring the Body Republic, dissenting (and potentially innovative) viewpoints are shouted down by sycophants, and free, forward thinking is rejected except for the Party elite, the IOs.

How is it possible for the institution to really be francoist and progressive in nature when the entire institution and leadership is shaped around stiffling dissenting or contrary viewpoints to that of the leadership? How can innovation be seen from a Body Republic that is largely treated as little more than cogs in the bureaucracy?

  5. lol I don't see how creating a standardized treaty spectrum leads to copypasta treaties.

Also, I don't know how the IAA did it, but every treaty that I've signed, I actually read the text, and sometimes, even requested a change or two to the wording. In any case, having a stock treaty isn't a bad thing. If I'm going to propose a PIAT to an alliance, why should I write a completely new document that is basically going to be the exact same thing as the other PIATs that I hold?

Oh, stock treaties are alright, I just don't particularly like ranking them or putting one type of treaty above another... in other words, the concept that it's logically consistant to violate one NAP or PIAT because of an MDoAP held with another alliance.

  6. don't forget the SISTER treaties.

This is another reason why I think treaty heirarchies are retarded. Why are some treaty "types" like PIATs mentioned, but not others like, SISTERs, COUSINs, Protectorates, Ordinances, trade agreements, etc. The whole concept is useless rationalization and encourages monotonous copy-and-paste treaties that lack originality and intelligence.

It's a fine way to introduce noobs to elementary treaty basics, maybe, but is rather silly to base foreign policy on.

It would be better if each and every treaty were evaluated individually, but I guess that's just too much reading and thinking. old.gif

  7. There was someone in FAN, Oliver's Empire, who had that kind of money. Sadly, he didn't use any of it for ground fighting, including when I hit him on second or third round and took this epic screen shot:

    Fixed; It's called nuke turtling.

  8. Do we really need an announcement every time any alliance passes a million NS mark?

    This thread is pointless.

Should have waited till 20,000,000, grats anyway.

EDIT: To be fair it's not an official alliance announcement, just a thread by an individual.

  9. The majority of POWs surrender not because of being overwhelmed by there attackers, but because the want out and away from their respective alliances. They surrendered. They hold no grudge against you, their attackers. If anything they are more upset with their alliances, for not being more organized, and prepared for war...

...It is counterproductive to take a system such as the POW system too far. It builds deep hatred in the POWs, and breeds a whole new generation of rogues.

Ah you see, we are not dealing with any sort of logic or reasoning here (or if there is any, it's minimal)... what we are most likely witnessing is a sort of anger, frustration and indignation... they resist us... they dare lift a finger against us???

This is because, as the leading powers in cybernations, they have come to view themselves as untouchable, and they are used to being unchallenged. So when they are challenged... it confuses them, and then it angers them. And while the losers of the war go on their merry way, having lost everything yet holding no grudge, the victors stew in a pot of malice, spite and hatred... really what sort of victory is that? I certainly do not hate them; I pity them more than anything.

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."

Now, to be honest, I could see a couple rational reasons for this sort of treatment:

    • A ) The PoWs are still a potential threat that may rise up in the future and conquer CN :awesome:
    • B ) Provide an example to any who think to challenge them in the future

Now of the two, admittedly ( B ) is a more likely candidate. Still, I cannot see the war even starting in the first place without some level of vindictiveness taking place (although admittedly GATO could just have been a completely rational and welcome target of opportunity to preserve unity).

  10. There is no "treaty spectrum." That is just an invention to justify favoring one treaty over another (when favorable). All treaties are agreements, an alliance and individual can either honor them all, or decide which treaties to honor (and ways to justify not following through).

  11. Many have thought the same thing and suffered greatly for it. The eye of the Emperor sees a great many things.

I'm curious, how would the Emperor's eye intercept a private in-game, forum or IRC communication? Wiretapping? Espionage?

  12. I would also strongly advise you and other nations subject to terms not to initiate contact with individuals like Junkalunka who not-so-subtly offer assistance with the circumvention of surrender terms (via "quitting the game ;)" or otherwise).

I find your interpretation of my offer of advice rather amusing. Considering I was his former Emperor and you are his enemy, I am certain that I am more likely to act in, and offer advice that is aligned with his interests.

If I were to offer him advice to circumvent surrender terms I would have done so privately... without you ever knowing it.

Now tell me, Is this "prisoner transfer" official and legal? Because from my understanding MCXA released its prisoners and you have no sovereignty over that alliance. So until you clarify and justify your position, in this case I would presume that such prisoner transfer orders are... illegal.

  13. The war is over for the Empire, as it is dissolved, and GATO is removed as a practical threat to the NPO. Still, out of anger and spite, the NPO continues to hold former Imperials that fought with honor and courage Prisoner... indefinitely.

As such, you can remain a PoW until (if, when) they change their mind, or quit the game ;)

Get in contact with me for advice regarding your situation. (OOC: best place to do that is on IRC, but these forums work too)

  14. cool. But i got a question for ANY BIG ALLIANCE (npo, mx something, etc) Out of all the alliances that have been destroyed or disbanded in any of the wars, which alliance that you wish was not destroyed or disbanded and was still here?

    Imperial Assault Alliance :jihad:
