  1. Madagascar will, assuming it is still the voice of Africa on this council, reject action against Draka at this time (if not, then we speak for ourselves). Politics aside, the charter and the circumstances are clear. Further, and we shall not hide this, Madagascar has a direct economic interest in keeping the southern area of Africa stable, which an intervention against Draka liable to ruin.

  4. "Yes, joint-security. Specifically, an agreement between ourselves to cooperate to protect our economic ties. We work together to ensure the stability of our respective regions, and those regions in which we have a direct interest in stability. It isn't mutual defense, or even a military alliance. It is just an agreement to cooperate on the stability of our regions so that the more important economic ties can flourish"
  5. "Arms enthusiast and billionaire Pierre Javilosay, famous for his advocacy of the creation of somekind of "Republic Weapons Association", and current owner of Sunshine Armaments, the only major supplier of Madagascar's police and military forces, would like to purchase two, no, THREE Wotjeks" - Pierre Javilosay
  6. Honningbrew Goes Global Honningbrew Meadery, started by the Honningbrew family a few years ago after moving to Madagascar, has become the first Madagascar-started company to begin Marketing outside of the country and the African continent. Eiraki Honningbrew, current CEO of the Honningbrew brand, which makes a range of beers alongside the famous Mead, was to the point with the press today. "Honningbrew Mead uses the finest of Madagascar's honey, and we are pleased that our elected leadership has created an economically and physically safe environment for our company to grow, to employ over 10,000 Republik fellow citizens, and to join the International Community". Eiraki declined to comment as to whether or not the timing of Honningbrew's announcement was in response to the start of competitor Black-Briar Meadery in Bear Island's Nation of The Bear.
  7. Laurent took a sip of his drink to clear his throat. "Well, given the instability going on further north, and the issues currently going on in Cape Town, you can understand any...hesitance we may have going straight for a alliance. Add as well that we have a very limited military operation and we find that a more militarized option isn't our wisest choice. We have a more 'Joint-security' resolution in mind, with a significant economic treaty backing it"
  8. Representing Africa on this point, Madagascar wholeheartedly supports writing a sternly worded letter to the Dominion Draka, on the grounds that we, as the UN, are displeased for doing whatever is they are probably and/or might be doing.
  9. "Things are alright; we are making swift and steady progress reforming the economy. That's why, interestingly enough, I am here. Your people are our primary trading source, and, I believe, it would be beneficial for both of us to, shall we say, formalize that relationship."
  10. "Short, given the distance, but pleasant. I noticed security is still being organized, which we are willing to help with, of course"
  11. In an effort to continue to strengthen the Republik's geo-political influence, and to formalize economic relations to the continent, Congress has authorized continue diplomatic outreach. Today, the first of Madagascar's diplomats would go to Draka, the newly formalized government covering much of southern Africa, and Madagascar's main trading partner. Kolo Laurent, the chosen diplomat for Draka, would set out immediately towards the capitol Praetoria, full of hope and a desire for success.
  12. A public announcement by your local kiosk representative from: Czerka Corporation Hey there folks! It's me, Guy Guyverson von Guy, representing the esteemable Czerka Corporation! Ha! That's me! Look at that handsome devil. But let's get serious for a moment, folks, and talk a little business. We here at Czerka Corp., located in the business friendly and absolutely gorgeous island republic of Madagascar, have been at the forefront of not only Madagascar's economic recovery and subsequent boom, but also at the heart and homes of all our neighbors here in the African continent. Folks all over the continent, and very soon beyond, are using a wide array of Czerka products, from our bedsheets, our patented Czerka-brand car batteries, to even the Czerka Mobile One, our very own mobile phone. We're even working on acquiring some military industrial areas; heck, our business is just about everything. In fact, that's our company motto!! Czerka Corporation Our Business is just about Everything Today I've got some swell news that will perk everyone right up in these troubled times. Czerka Corporation is formally creating a branch in the newly created territory of Arnew. That's right folks, not only will we be expanding job creation (and our own profits) here at home, but now the folks of Arnew will get the pleasure of working Czerka factories, buying Czerka products, and even (in the very near future we're sure), wielding locally made Czerka weaponry for defense. Corporate leaders are heading there now to iron out some of the finer details, and our friendly and well trained service-staff are assisting anyone with questions at any of our branch kiosks. Thanks, and signing off for now!
  13. The following was delivered to Tianxia Diplomatic Authorities A Formal Invitation of Economic Cooperation To: Whom it may concern From: The Madagascar Economic Development Corp., Republic State Department Dear Sir, Madam, Monolithic Organization, Etc As you know, the Republic of Madagascar and the Private Sector are continually seeking new and better ways to improve our island nation, which in turn improves our continent, which, in continuation, improves the world. While significant progress has been made improving the lives of our people, the technological significance of our infrastructure, and so forth, there are still some areas in which we lack experienced and professional citizens. In other cases, we simply lack the entities to organize resources to address certain need. One of those needs is telecommunications and electronics. Other needs are more military in nature. The point, as we have been slow to get to, is this: Madagascar is opening it's doors to foreign investment and enterprise, and you are invited. Signed, Alfonso Blanc, representative of the State Department The Council - Madagascar Economic Development Corp.
  14. "As the African Representative to the UNSC, we will also vote in favor of the TSI, on the grounds that the ruling factions of Sierra Leon have requested a peacekeeping force of somekind, and we in Madagascar wish to see the issue resolved. We are therefore confident that we speak for the continent. We offer our service as peace-negotiators in the future"
  15. "As representative of the Continent, our proposal for an African led peacekeeping force is in compliance with the requests of those voices of whom we represent. Nothing more, nothing less. Our nation's personal, if you will, preference is to keep with our original proposal. It also appears that one faction or another in Sierra Leon has accepted our original proposal, but has asked the exclusion of Legion soldiers. What say this organized body?"
  16. "I will remind the Russian delegation that Legion does not speak for the Continent; that would be us. Reacting to a seat member without consulting us would be...well, very reactionary" said the elderly statesman from Madagascar. He polished his glasses for a moment before continuing. "Russia will do well to bear in mind that the entire original peacekeeping proposal is dependent on the approval of Sierra Leon, be it both faction or one unified government. As that has been vicariously denied by the conflicting factions of Sierra Leon, we cannot, in the spirit of diplomacy and honest government, carry forth in the proposal. The current proposal put forth; that is, to limit non-african combatants in and around Sierra Leon, is a measure directed towards all interests in pushing forward towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict. It would satisfy those in authority in Sierra Leon that neighbors and cousins would be helping them ensure a brighter future, and at the same time assure more easily antagonized African states, such as Legion, that our neighboring homeland isn't being used as towards the benefit of outside interests that may or may not be friendly towards our own national interest"
  17. "Madagascar would like to formally request a stay on all non-African military units entering Sierra Leon. While the the brewing conflict(s) are indeed worrisome and tragic, ultimately we, the few African nations, feel the conflict is ultimately one solved domestically by the people of Sierra Leon. It is our pledge to station our own military assets and personnel at the borders of Sierra Leon, so that we may, ourselves, contain the situation and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the continent, if not the world"
  18. "Madagascar, after some discussion with Legion, would like to put forth a proposal to the UNSC, upon which, if we agree to the terms, we will bring before the acting government of Sierra Leone. A security force comprised of African nations, in this instace Madagascar and Legion, will provide the necessary security for an election to take place. Unarmed observers from willing nations will ensure the fairness of the election. This proposal, if accepted by this body, would be presented to Sierra Leone itself, if they are willing"
  19. "There are only a small number of recognized African states, all of which are located on the exact opposite end of the continent. It is our belief that any and all intervention in Sierra Leone should go through (and in Cooperation with) Athens, given the Federation's proximity to the region in question. In that spirit, Madagascar is willing to contribute toward a peacekeeping force if necessary. It must be said, in agreement with our neighbors in Legion, that any UN mission on the African continent should and must include at least one African state member"
  20. Internal Revenue Service Formalized Following intense debate and much back and forth between the Senate and the House, today President Nividy signed into law the order to officially create Madagascar's Internal Revenue Service. The I.R.S will be responsible for keeping track of the Republic's finances, including monitoring and keeping track of the finances of political groups, religious entities, etc. The federal organization will also be responsible for handling the collection of taxes and public funds.
  21. Infrastructure Plan In The Works, Union Vote To Arrive Clearing the House of Representatives, the Island Infrastructure Act is on course to be brought to the Senate floor, either later this week or next week. The Act in it's current, House approved state would allocate this trimester's spare funding towards updating, repair, upgrading, and adding to Madagascar's Interstate-System. That version of the bill faces tougher opposition in the Senate, where an unusual alliance between United Madagascar and Communist Party Senator's may block the bill. Both UM and CCP want the IIA to instead focus on localized infrastructure, with money going towards business, industry, and city and town upkeep. Another provision of the bill, which has so far divided all groups, is whether or not to allow the Nation's government employed construction and infrastructure related group to form a Union. Spokespeople from the President's Office have said that he would support allowing the workers themselves to hold a vote to certify unionizing, while UM in particular has stood opposed to the measure. Yesterday the workers voted to have a vote next month, leaving the door open for a short, but undoubtedly brutal PR campaign from both sides of the issue.
  22. Stock Market Opens Antananarivo - Today marked the official opening of the Republik Stock Exchange (RE), the first major sign of economic growth in the last few months. The opening was presided over by the several members of congress, President Nividy, and the Madagascar Business Council, as well as several groups. Political efforts continue to focus on economic development, and the RE was the first major legislative effort to be finished in time for the First Quarter. Trading is expected to open this coming Wednesday.
  23. Two more Schools in the works, University to be revamped Following several lengthy meetings with educational groups across the country, Education Department head Jean Lilana and her team have recommended to congressional leadership to invest in at least two more schools in the city of Antsiranana. "The area continues, despite the boom in our economy and investment in our future, to struggle academically, and as such requires our attention as a nation" Lilana said, during remarks made at the most recent Senatorial hearing. The head of the DoE also submitted a plan to refurbish and breath new life into the University of Madagascar system. Despite the recent economic output, the University of Madagascar system still struggles to provide students with the proper resources. Further, many of the buildings are either decades out of date, in serious disrepair, or empty shells. The proposal was met with a swift passage of legislation from Congress, which is currently seeking to take all steps necessary to cement the Republik's economic future.
