In my current government position (coupled with my alliance's situations), I have little 'down time' in CN. In fact, this is usually the only game I play in a day.
I won't go into detail, but I have plenty on my plate as it is, and a war would probably create more game play than I can handle.
If I could give you some advise, it would be to get yourself in a government position, preferably something dealing with Foreign Affairs. And if you can't get into the government, then set up some embassies for your alliance. Get yourself enough of them, and you can occupy yourself for hours. Recruiting is also a good way to spend some extra time.
There are alternate ways to have fun in this game, you just have to look for them.
P.S. I totally agree with Rextu about how nations = individuals and alliances = nations. Since you are the sole operator of your nation, it makes sense. It's something every new player to CN should be aware of, I think.
