The Moment of Victory

Wars Are Won or Lost Long Before The First Shot is Fired

One of the greatest skills in alliance leadership is the ability to skillfully strategize far ahead and control future eventualities. It is the strategically weak alliance thinks only of the present. Like a chess master, the skillful leader knows the outcome far in advance of his present move.

Before the first soldier was deployed or cruise missile was fired in this current conflict, the Karma Coalition had won the day. While Pacifican high leadership slept and Continuum leaders squabbled, those known now as Karma were busy preparing for a diplomatic and military blitz. The leaders of Karma successfully isolated their prey and then took advantage of the Continuum disarray in the days leading up to the first declaration of war.

This is a good lesson to learn. Plan, then move. Not vice versa. Very few wars on Planet Bob are won alone. Gathering a coalition is the first step in accomplishing military success. Though the distance between the embassy and the battle field seems vast, both are necessary for victory.

If Karma was planning and Continuum squabbled, and Pacifica slept, then how come Pacifica and Continuum declared the wars?

You have a point for most wars, but in this case, both sides planned, Hegemony just messed it up.

It seems to me that Pacifica walked into a bad situation - a really bad situation - without proper preparation. Blocs and allies in disrepair is usually not a good time to declare war. it seems to me Pacifica should have been more aware of what they were getting into.

If both sides did plan, then it is clear that one side planned very poorly.

This is more or less accurate.

This is pretty much just from what I've gathered in discussions, seeing as I have never stepped foot in NPO as a member:

The Karma coalition had clearly been in the works for a long time... I don't think NPO's mistake was improper planning, per se, but rather severely misreading the situation, and underestimating how much opposition they would be facing. As a result of them expecting the same easy fight they regularly got, they were completely unprepared when they faced an actual opposing force. Had the NPO been more aware of what was going on, and in how serious trouble they were, they would have been able to postpone this war, but ultimately not stop it. The fact of the matter is, the Cyberverse is simply becoming too large (in terms of the number of alliances) for one single entity to retain control over it for any indefinite time.

EDIT: Also, Watchman, good hindsight does not mean good analysis.

God, if you're the best spin doctor the Hegemony has, they really need to open an Academy or something, you're rubbish at this.

I hold no loyalty to either side. In fact, I have criticized both. Your need to categorize me as one or another is amusing, though.

This is very true. However, every single person outside of the red sphere saw this coming. I am very confused how Pacifica bumbled into this unwittingly.

I'm sure your pants got heavier when you saw that I posted, but I'm going to try not to attack you this time around. The whole "Karma" coalition formed very quickly in comparison to power-structures like the CoLUEition. In almost a period of a month, people went from speculating that NPO would crush the opposition (with MHA, TOP, and pretty much all other non-Citadel alliances on their side), to thinking that the war would be completely even (with almost everyone except a few large alliances hitting Q), to seeing that a gangbang was in store for NPO (with MHA, TOP, and everyone in between hitting the hell out of NPO & Co.). My hindsight is very crude, and I'm sure some insiders have many corrections, but I think Pacifica's main problem was showing disrespect towards their allies and taking for granted their support. This created a building resentment toward NPO, but that resentment was hidden by their fear for Pacifican might. However, when the winds of change started to blow, the anti-NPO government members became emboldened, and the dominoes started to fall.
