"Regnum Invictorum"

Is one of the worst examples of ~internet intellectualism~ I have ever seen.

What's worse though is knowing that a substantial percentage of the players of this game might conceivably actually like Invicta better for it. "Ooh they have a Latin name they're so smart and intelligent (just like me heh :awesome: :awesome:)" --you, probably.

This has got me thinking about the other various pathetic grasps at achieving SERIOUS POLITICAL THOUGHT FOR SERIOUS PEOPLE... they're all bad. Each and every one of them. Dressing your posts up with the most convoluted sentence structures and the most advanced words doesn't make you look smart, it makes you look ridiculous. This goes especially for the 99% of the players of this game who don't actually know how to use them, but even the 1% that do still end up coming off as massive bowtie-twirlers.

Stop it, and stop using those dumb hurfisms like "Revanchism" that are TOTALLY AS IF CN WAS JUST LIKE REAL LIFE IN THAT GAME EVENTS AND PERSONALITIES HAVE TOTALLY INSANELY SMART WORDS MADE FOR THEM MAAAAAAAN.

There are many, many other ways of expressing the same idea without being obnoxiously obscure and mystical.

Using one word in the place of three equates to being obnoxious, obscure and mystical?

You are really stretching it.

"Advanced" words exist for a reason; to enable a conciseness that leads to more effective communication than wordy sentences. Yes, there are some people who will simply look through a thesaurus in order to add some faux glitter to their words, but to condemn every single use of such words would be to deny the very reason for their existence, and that is utter folly.

Seriously, these words are neither "smart" nor "advanced". They are simply words - they have a meaning, and that meaning is used to convey some idea. Having such a knee-jerk reaction against their use is irrational, and trying to automatically attribute a pretentious desire for self-promotion as the motive behind them is illogical too.

I think you need a bit of a reality check here. The world does not revolve around you and your cynicism.

Yep! Amazing, I know.

man, i need to remember to stop reading anything that Voytek blogs.

Good, that makes us even.

I realise that nothing I can say will actually make people exercise a bit of self-awareness in their posting but hey, being able to let off steam like this is one of the few things that keeps me sane (and unbanned, probably).

From what i remember, their reasoning was this:

"We lost in the last war, so we aren't Invicta anymore, so we're now calling ourselves Regnum Invictorum"

I don't like it, but that's their pick.

Big words are fine as long as they make sense. Who cares if they're self-promoting? I'd prefer someone to speak with a certain degree of class and flaunt their knowledge than sit back and use simple words to express their feelings.

I can relate to the annoying side of it too, however. It annoys me when people think they're better than they are and attempt to enhance their image by using a dictionary, but it's fairly obvious when that happens. Their words will look stunted.

If everyone decided to not use their intelligence to save face, what would the world look like?
