whatthefunk
Why does my civilian population go down when I buy soldiers? I've been trying to figure this out for a while now and am stumped. I've done a brief three day experiment, buying 10 soldiers a day. Here are my results: Day 1 Soldiers: 31,500 Civilian Population: 104,276 Total Population: 135,776 Day 2 Soldiers: 31,510 Civilian Population: 104,250 (-26) Total Population: 135,760 (-26) Day 3 Soldiers: 31,520 Civilian Population: 104,227 (-23) Total Population: 135,747 (-23) Why is this happening? Have my soldiers reverted to cannibalism? Are they chasing away the innocent women and children? Also, anybody know the ideal soldier percentage? i have a pretty good idea, but I haven't been able to verify it yet....
Sande
20% is the best for collection. However, if you get attacked it's basically auto-anarchy. People usually have 30% of citizens. The percentage of soldiers/citizens affects population happiness and this affects the population somehow.
iMatt
What is your population density? I suppose it shouldn't matter too much, but higher soldier count leads to higher density, which may or may not have a gradual negative effect on population. As an aside, note that when collecting make sure your soldier efficiency number is less than 60% of your citizen population. For you that's 62,536, and you're over (65,246) so you lose 1 environment point.
Itsuki Koizumi
you lose about 1 citizen for every 10 soldiers you buy. Well that's an approximation, but it's roughly correct.

I've found that I get the best collections at around 23.5% of my total population. I'm trying to pin it down now, but its kind of hard witht the global radiation level changing daily.... Captain Calcium
Moved to Question Center. I don't have a specific answer for you, but I suspect it might have something to do with your population density, as mentioned by iMatt.

xR1 Fatal Instinct
Soldiers in some cases increase citizen count and I believe can increase how much money you earn per citizen. What triggers this is beyond me.
Emphix
imo soldier can increase population density, which in turn affect environment which affect population.
OTTOTTO
You loose about 500 citizens for every 10000 soldiers, that you buy. I guess, that this is valid only if you are above the 20 % rule.
