DUNES Special Report

"Today, the Administrator announced that the tentative 'siege' Promised Land has been held under is lifted. While he is not releasing many details, he did state that the head of the terrorist group Freedom's Voice (OOC: Finally gave them a name/OOC) was found dead, along with five of his agents, in what appeared to be a falling-out between them."

"As such, he has stated that the borders are to be re-opened without further delay, permitting travel once again between both our neighbors on this continent, and those abroad who travel by ship or airline."

"Now that that threat is gone, gentlemen, we have another. We have a potential for espionage...not even twenty miles from our shorline in Darwin..."

OOC: I saw wat u did thar! :P

OOC: yes, you did. ;)

Hearing this news, Jed Constantine, his wife, Laurel, his dog, Henry, and his brother Aaron, returned to Melbourne, Promised Land, from New England.

OOC: :P

OOC: Hah ha... :P

IC: Little would be changed...Melbourne had largely escaped the fear and terror that had gripped the rest of the land.

"Today it was announced that construction has begun on Promised land's first deep-space probe. While most design specifics were not released, it was stated that if it worked according to design specifications, it would survey not only the lunar surface, but would go on to survey other planets in the solar system...including Mars.

One detail that was released was the fact that it is divided into segments that are designed to break off at the proper times, to more thoroughly examine lunar and planetary surfaces from a close range."

Construction continues on Promised Land's first deep-space probe. It is indcated that construction has begun on a second probe, for purposes of redundancy to ensure that a failure in one will not result in failure of the mission.

"Are you sure the Amdinistrator does not suspect?" The tall, thin figure asked. The lighting was poor, but the voice indicated it was a man.

"I'm sure. These missiles are completely off the radar, if you'll pardon my pun," another, shorter person stated with an almost jovial attitude. This voice was female.

The lighting may have been poor, but there was enough to see clearly what kind of missiles they were discussing...five gleaming nuclear weapons sat, silent and inert, giving no indication of the power they could unleash if thier owner's wrath was incurred...

"Today, the bodies of three individuals, two men and one woman, were found dead in Perth. Police are wary of releasing any concrete statement, as it is unclear who is responsible, but they do say that one particulary interesting detail is that they are all members of the Red Guard criminal organization.

Police also confirm that analysis of the scene indicates several others may have been wounded or killed there, but no other bodies have been recovered.

What was not released to the public was that also found was a paper with a sketch of the sterotypical image of Lady Justice, pinned to the wall with a dagger.

***End Classified***

In other news, the government has announced that it is officially withdrawing recognition of Furon as a legitimate state. This will remain in effect until whatever functioning government they still possess does two things: admit responsibility for the missile attack on Mandalore, and withdraw their own de-recognition of Promised Land. It was not made clear if either of these terms are negotiable.

"...In other news, the organization being called Justice's Blade apparently strikes again, leaving a suspected Drug Kingpin and his bodyguards in Perth dead. Also included in the list of fatalities was a recent parolee, jailed for drug trafficking four years ago."

***Highly Secret***

The official leadership of the organization was gathered at the table, deabting the newest plan.

"First, Anderson is too soft-hearted. If we had been in charge, there would have been nothing but a smoking crater where the armies of New Anglica had camped on Australian soil...second. he sticks our noses into too many affairs that don't concern us. Frankly, I'm not sure Subtleknifewielder made a good choice appointing him as leader..."

One of the leaders, actually an agent of Subtleknifewielder who had been recruited to the cause, spoke. "Subtleknifewielder did actuaslly tell me he intended it only to be a temporary thing. Anderson was right for the jop then...but he's overstayed his welcome."

"So, are we agreed he needs to be removed?"

Only two voices out of the seven gathered did not voice approval--rather abstaining from the decision.

"Indeed he has over stayed his welcome." The door to the meeting room flew open as the words came from a shadow outside. A dead man dropped to the ground, one of the guards of the room, he had a gash across his throat while the woman that entered had dark brown eyes which faded into the shadows extremely well. In her right hand was a saber, with a Lillian insignia on the hilt, while in her left, she held an empty syringe, blood still streaming down her neck. Her movements were rigid, yet fluid, the Raging Nostrum pumping through her body at an alarming rate as she walked further into the room.

"Andreson has caused nothing but problems for this continent in the past few months. However the problem rests not only with him, but with Australia and the world in general." She motioned for a man to get up from his seat so she could sit down. He was larger than her, some two hundred pounds to her one-forty, but when he refused to move, she need only lift him up by one arm before throwing him off into the wall. If it wasn't clear before, it was clear now, the Lillians and the Hansa had a stake in what was going on here.

"The problem gentlemen is not just removing him, it is removing what makes our countries weak. For the Hansa it was the destruction of our Diet, the democracy that kept Lady Tintagyl from achieving true glory will not keep Lady Hannah down. Your problem is this horrid instability and the fact that the world has turned its backs on both of our lands, our continent in general. They mock us, they throw us to the side, yet they forget just how powerful we were as rising nations, both of us. Lady Asgeirsson has a vision, Nemesis has a vision of a united Australia to defend itself from the fools across the ocean. Our dream is a strong centralized nation-state, ruled by Lady Hannah herself, of course to not count your great leader a part of this would be wrong, but marriage undesirable. Therefore we will work out how leadership will work at a later time. Our peoples are eternal allies, supporting each other to the end. It is time Australia reaffirms itself to the world under one unified military leadership. What..." Her neck pulsed from the steroids for a moment, amplifying her feminine features. "...do you think? If you agree, we will take care of Anderson personally."

All members but one turned with shocked, and in no small prat, horrified, expressions. Had they been discovered? One began reaching for his sidearm, but the one member that had not reacted with alarm, a middle-aged woman with just a hint of silver around her termples, placed a hand on his arm.

"Relax. I was expecting something like this." his tension relaxed slightly, but he still kept a wary eye on the entrance. When he actually saw the intruder, it returned tenfold, for completely different reasons.

"Indeed he has over stayed his welcome."

Another man (the one recruited from Subtleknifewielder's SWORD organization) glared at her after taking in the dead guard. "That was my brother you killed," he spat. "He was only doing his duty--there was no need to kill him." He would have remained intimidated, but the anger kept the fear in check. He was only further enraged when she muscled her way into a seat that was already occupied.

The middle-aged woman stared calmly, while the others seemed to relax as they took their cue from her, except for the man she had tossed aside. He stood from where he had been tossed, dazed but not out. He blinked his eyes in an attempt to clear his vision. No one else protested her usurpation of his place.

"Anderson has caused nothing but problems for this continent in the past few months. However the problem rests not only with him, but with Australia and the world in general."

One younger woman, though no longer intimidated to a degree, stared open-mouthed at the feat that this intruder had just performed.

There was no interruption as she delivered her speech--and when she finished, one could have heard a pin drop. The woman who was apparently in charge stood, walking to the door to make sure no one else was close enough to hear, then shut it once more. She smiled kindly at the man who was still standing by the wall to take her seat. She preferred standing while she was thinking.

"To be honest...your proposal was not entirely unexpected." Mournfully, she knelt by the fallen guard, running her fingers over his eyes to close them forever--she quietly intoned a small phrase, recognizeable as a rote prayer. "May you find peace in the arms of the Shadow Protector."

She stood once more, and though there was still a single tear in her eye, she smiled.

"You are right, of course. What we need is a single, unified nation that people dare not mock. But rest assured, we already have a plan to get rid of Anderson...and a way that will ensure the rest of the world thinks he resigned voluntarily."

"Very well." Said the Lillian getting up from her seat. "We'll be in touch then." She walked towards the guard dead on the ground and the man she had thrown from his seat standing against the wall. Smiling at the standing man, her eyes glistened feverishly then looking down at the body she nodded. "No you're right, he didn't have to die, but neither do a lot of people. As to you 'Shadow Protector', I'm sure ours would be pleased to know that her influence is spreading. But if you're going to do it yourself, please do not keep us waiting. The world works while leaders plan, we have to stay ahead at all costs."

The Lillian walked out into the night air and into the distance.

"I don't care if we're supposed to be allies," the man stated, his eyes glaring with hate at the departing Lillian. If looks could kill, she would not only be dead, she would be in tiny pieces too small to identify as human flesh. "She had no need to kill him. With her stregth, she could have simply knocked him out."

"Calm, Thomas," the chairwoman said--she had been the one who had sent the spirit of the guard into the afterlife. "You will undoubtedly get your chance at Justice...but not today. For today, we don't need to anger any allies by rash action. In due time, you can appeal to the General herself, once she is queen."

Thomas visibly shook from the anger, but he closed his eyes and nodded, the tension slowly flowing out of his body as he forced himself to relax. Finally, he nodded. "Fine, Angeline. We'll do it your way. I know it's probably best."

Angeline smiled sadly, simply placing a hand upon his shoulder in wordless comfort.

***Highly secret***

The truck appeared to be a normal shipment. Nothing seemed amiss, and no one was going to inspect it anyway, as it was clearly not coming from or going to any location outside the nation.

In fact, the only odd thing was, it was headed straight for the center of the Gibson Desert. it was, in fact, being driven by a member of Justice's Blade.

About the time it got there, a tape recording would be delivered to Richard Anderson's desk, marked urgent. Time for inspection of the tape to ensure no booby-traps was allowed for, and right as he was putting it in, the truck reached the middle of the desert.

The driver knew his cargo, and he had personally volunteered for this mission, even knowing all the things it entailed.

On the video, a masked woman would be seen coming in front of the camera.

"Administrator Anderson, as you are watching this, a truck is even now placing itself in the middle of the Gibson Desert. 'Why,' you might ask, 'is this truck so important?' Turn a satellite to the area in question, and you'll see why." She gave him what was estimated to be enough time to call General Hammond to confirm the concentration of a geo-synchronous satellite on the spot before continuing her speech. And she was right on.

"In this truck is a nuclear device. Small by comparison to strategic weapons, more on par with a tactical device, it nevertheless is an ample demostration of the Red Guard's power."

his face went deathly pale as he heard Hammon hollering at his staff. he hadn't heard much, but he had clearly heard the words 'nulcear explosion.'

"We have detonated this device in the middle of the desert to minimize loss of human life. However, we have more such weapons."

The camera turned to the left, where five gleaming shapes were clearly visible. A scientist, one of the ones that had worked in the nation's nuclear weapons' program, looked extremely unhappy, and his hands were bound. he spoke when prompted. "I can confirm that these are nuclear weapons. Two are of a level to be labelled as only tactical weapons, while the rest are of strategic capabilities."

The camera shifted to the woman again. "As I said, one of these tactical weapons has, by now, been detonated in the middle of the desert. But as you can see, we clearly have more."

She cleared her throat. "Our demand are simple. Resign, and appoint a successor of our choosing..."

The tape cut out right as she named the successor.

--------

Public: "Administrator Anderson today announced that he is officially retiring. He stated he named a successor, but he will not, at this time, reveal who it is."

"Elsewhere, an explosion in the Gibson desert had some people alarmed yesterday, but reassurances came from the army that this was only a test of our most recent tactical weapons, and it is a relatively clean nuclear device. Teams are being sent in now to clean up the radiation."

OOC: Government shift. However, it is not complete. More to come.

The successor was chosen--the long-forgotten Georgina Gates.

She had almost given up on returning to power--so when she was named as the next Administrator, she was shocked into speechlessness--before congratulating herslf on getting her due, finally.

***Public***

"The successor to the Administrator has been chosen--the former Lady of Internal Affairs, Georgina gates, has been duly sworn in as the new Administrator."

OOC: No, not done yet... ;)

The Capitol building was the scene of an...unusual occurance today, as the new Administrator was seen by several government workers apparently brawling with one of her aides. It is unknown what the cause of the altercation was, but there have been rumors that the aide, Melony Welsh, intends to press charges for assault.

Ms. Gates has refused to comment at this time on this occurance.

***Private***

"That little !@#$%*, who does she think she is? I ask her, nicely as can be, to get me a cup of coffee, but no, she can't do thatone thing."

It was fortunate little in her office was fragile, as Gates was in full tantrum mode.

No one dared to approach her in this mood. They knew better. That brawl had actually been the third this week. This was only the first time the public had caught wind of it.

But then a new presence entered the building. Four Crimson Shields in full combat armor. And their weapons were loaded.

Everyone scrambled to get out of their way, but they payed no attention to anyone, making a beeline for the Administrator's office.

She didn't even notice them at first, until she threw the one fragile thing in her office at the door--the pencil holder.

"And what the hell do you want?!" she screamed, too angry to be intimidated by them.

The Sergeant moved forward, aiming the weapon at her, while the others stared impassively. "Administrator Gates, you are hereby relieved of duty, pending a hearing for gross incompetence and conduct unbecoming a public official."

Her eyes widened to saucers, and she was visibly trembling--but not from fear, as her lunge at him indicated. His training kicked in, and he sidestepped, giving her a good 'whack!' across the back of her head with the butt of his weapon. She collapsed in a boneless heap on the floor.

***The next day, Public Announcement***

"The current Administrator has been removed from office and is under house arrest, awaiting trial. At this time there is no clear successor, leaving many to wonder for the future...

***Private***

"Now that she is out of the way, it is time," stated Angeline. "The messenger from the Hansa did make a clear offer. It's time we took her up on her offer..."

"General Hammond has announced that the first deep-space probe is nearing completion. As it is the first of a series, it is to be called, in military tradition, the Enterprise I. The second probe, the Enterprise II, is nearing the midpoint of construction."

"So how's the research going on rail-gun technology?" Admiral Hunt had the report in his hand, but he preferred to get the dshort and simple from someone who understood both him and the technology, and knew how to expalin it simply.

"We have been able to produce a weapon that fires a considerable distance, but not at a rate that we could have wished--we have to wait at least half an hour between shots to prevent the gun barrel from overheating and therefore warping. At least powering it isn't an issue."

"Very good, continue on."
