king of cochin
The IV Infantry Regiment was training as a Mountain regiment for many years now. While Task Force 02 conducted the world cruise special teams had visited various parts of Hanseatic Commonwealth's colonies in Antarctica and had conducted extensive tests and experiments. Now all that knowledge has been put to test. After the collapse, the colonies of former Hanseatic Commonwealth had been declared a World Protectorate. Now Kingdom of Cochin landed its troops to claim it for its own. The IV Infantry Regiment was landed with a heavy brigade of Corps of Engineers to build the necessary support systems. Station Gangotri as this territory would now be called would be primarily a scientific establishment. king of cochin
Carrier Task Force 02 commanded by CNS Cochin, A02 is stationed off Gangotri coast while supervising the unloading of 4ID's materials from a flotilla of RO/ROs. Specially equipped Blackhawks are already flying to various strategic points of Station Gangotri to establish Cochin's sovereignty. A flight of 4 Mig29Ks are maintaining a passive patrol in the skies and a Metac AWACS is providing air traffic control for the various helicopters and planes in the skies. king of cochin
Immediately after arrival the the brigade from Corps of Engineers split up for their various tasks. One team set out to set up adhoc docking facilities. One team set out to set up temporary barracks. Another team set out to doze out a rough landing strip in the permafrost. Meanwhile the Infantry Regiment started out setting up barracks of their own and some fire teams set out in their modified Tatra snow trucks and Mahindra snow mobiles to establish a perimeter. king of cochin
The first of the many ships to arrive at the adhoc dock at Gangotri was the icebreaker IB02, followed by her sister IB01. They were built at Cochin Shipyards in Bosaso for this explicit purpose. As IB02 created a large enough channel in the ice, smaller freighters belonging to Varuna Mercantile Limited docked in. In the freezing winds, the crew of the freighters unloaded tonnes of cargo, basic equipment required to build a permanent settlement for the scientists who would be coming here. Already Halob long range transport planes were landing at the air field to bring preliminary teams of scientists to explore the region and to set up base data for a permanent research stations. king of cochin
The entire territory of Station Gangotri has been now mapped by a flight of 4 S-RECOs specially modified to fly in Antarctic conditions. As soon as the terrain information was downlinked to the Base Camp of the 4th Infantry Division various teams set out in their snow mobiles and trucks. They would place several surveillance and monitoring instruments on the borders so that no unauthorized person may venture inside. Meanwhile the Corps of Engineers team had finished setting up of dock and air field. A fixed ATC has also been installed with a basic air defense radar system. Further inland another installation is being built. This site is accessible only by air. A team of engineer soldiers are leveling the area with equipments airlifted from Gangotri Base Camp. The next phase of Project Antrix would start here.

Our merchant submarines might be very useful for delivering supplies on the ice." Any territory claimed by Cochin is a territory of Dragon Empire by inference. The treacherous sub surface conditions prevalent in Antarctica precludes the use of submarines in the region. The sonar conditions are just horrible here. However we would appreciate if any extra ice breaker ships could be sent to us. Currently we have two ships on duty with a third being launched at Bosaso this week. We are also planning to support Station Gangotri from the RCNB Rathnagiri for geographic reasons, so Dragonisian assistance would be invaluable. Maelstrom Vortex
"Well.. our old ice breakers are a bit worn from lack of use and had been set for re-conditioning, but I think we can pull them out of the dockyards and have them refreshed a bit and sent your way. We once lived on that wretched continent in conditions I won't even dare discuss, but you're welcome to use them. I think we can get about 5-10 of them prepped in a couple of weeks. They can't defend themselves though so they'll need the defense of your navy." Edited August 30, 2009 by Maelstrom Vortex

So defense for your ships will not be a problem.
king of cochin
It was a very long flight from Cochin and the Distinguished Visitor of this particular flight was particularly sore at the spartan confinements. Usually he had access to executive class aircrafts but unfortunately the destination would not support that luxury. So he was strapped in a Merat transport aircraft, one from the regiment designated expressly for supporting Station Gangotri. He did manage to shove the discomfort to the back of his mind contemplating the unique opportunity the King had presented him. As the Merat landed at Gangotri Air Base a Scorpio pulled up to the ramp. The scientist had to brave a few seconds of bone chilling cold before he escaped to the relative warmth of this SUV. The car drove further on to a helipad constructed nearby where a Blackhawk was waiting. Another seconds of braving the Antarctic cold and Dr. Sarabhai was strapped in the crash seat of the Blackhawk being helped on the four point safety belt by an Army Sergeant. The helicopters assigned for duty in Gangotri were specially modified to work in the rarified and frigid atmosphere of the Antarctica. The engines had to provide greater power to lift in the thin air and some of the cooling systems were done away with taking local conditions into consideration. With a roar that almost matched the blizzard force winds blasting past them the helicopter lifted off on a southward bearing. Dr. Sarabhai looked with a childish awe at the very last frontier known to man. A terrain inhospitable to most life organisms would be perfect for man's reach into a frontier still more alien. The Simulation Training Center would be built here. Slowly the helicoptered powered down to a helipad constructed by the army engineers at the site. Rudimentary progress was being made, for the environmental conditions precluded any quick work. Dressed in heavy parkas the advance team of scientists who were at the site welcomed their Director and outlined their proposal. It would do. The site was quite perfect. king of cochin
Two ships a day are leaving from Royal Cochin Naval Base Ratnagiri to support the operations in Station Gangotri. The freighters of Varuna Mercantile Limited, the state carrier, and several escort ships of Royal Cochin Navy are now fully tasked for this operation. The 9600 km of ocean which separates this most fat flung of the Kingdom's territories means that sufficient stocks of food, fuel, medicines and other supplies must be stocked at all times. The territory must also be sufficiently blockade proof ,ie, it must be able to survive a naval blockade for a sufficient period of time. Since the total population in the area would not number more than 3000 at most times this is manageable. Already the Border Guards are planning a defense system which would call for absolute minimum of personnel requirements. Station Gangothri is to be used for primarily scientific purposes and extraneous soldiers would only be burden for its limited stock of resources. Border Guards is thinking about a revolutionary automated defense system based on the ground model of the Strategic Defense Network. It would be expensive, but it is always better to expend money and material than lives.
