NEW ORLEANS - Initial estimates of the wellness of the heart of Louisiana were vastly overstated. Close to forty percent of the infrastructure of the country needs to be refurbished or rebuilt. Many of the roadways are vastly decayed, and factories all across the country were shuttered due to the deep economic downturn Louisiana has been experiencing. Close to five million are unemployed all across Louisiana, nearly 20%. It is estimated that nearly $90,000,000,000 will be needed to put into improving the infrastructure of the nation.

Interestingly, rumors from Little Rock are that a large cache of records for scientific studies, along with experiments and other results, were destroyed in a massive chemical explosion last night.

OOC: News thread. This is my post for losing so much infra/tech due to nuclear warfare. :]

NEW ORLEANS - Several explosions rocked harbors across the country late last night. Little information could be produced, but President Huey Long issued a brief statement that "an attack upon our country had been committed by agents unknown". A communications lockdown was placed on the state of Louisiana and military troops flooded the streets. Gunfire rang through the air as masked gunmen ran through the streets. Unfortunately, there is little information to report and we will attempt to keep you updated as fast as possible.

LITTLE ROCK - Investigators have confirmed at the chemical explosion at the scientific research center was man-made and intentional, and other fires around the country have been linked. Damage was worse than feared, with close to 40% of the data lost.

KANSAS CITY - The air force experienced a tragic blow as F-22s in prep flights were sabotaged. Several sources from inside the air force have indicated that all of the terrorist actions throughout the country may be linked together, and the country is preparing to delve deep into her pockets to re-fund her military.

KANSAS CITY - Public contentment has recently been at an all-time low in many of the states across the Glorious Republic. However, things have started to look up! A study on the environmental impact of pollution across the seven states recently confirmed a government stance that fears were grossly overstated. Not only has coastal erosion been reversed by mighty efforts to relocate mud and debris from floods across the Plains, but CO2 levels are down and a recent flu outbreak was confirmed to be H1N1. H1N1, commonly called "swine flu", isn't any different from regular flu in terms of mortality, and due to good medical treatment there have been minimal deaths. In addition, surveys across the country found that only the Heartland (around Kansas City, branching off down to Baton Rouge and snaking down to New Orleans) has major infrastructure damage, and rebuilding is scheduled to start once legislature passes the FEMA bill.

The FEMA bill, short for Federal Emergency Manual-Labor Action bill, is supposed to provide jobs and therefore money to the many unemployed across the country. The FEMA program is geared mainly towards repairing infrastructure across the damaged nation.

Finally, Vice-President Jindal announced today that the damage caused by the chemical explosion was, in fact, minimal. Most of the records destroyed had backups.

NEW ORLEANS - Though the document was initially meant to be classified until the government could announce it, sources from deep in the White House have leaked an "information and friendship, ok?" pact. The name of the type of pact came from Louisiana's diplomat to Korea reportedly stating those same words when asking for a formal pact. It has been called an "IFOK" pact informally.

Terms of the pact have yet to be released, but it is rumored that any information that poses a threat to one nation is obligated to be sent to the other. In addition, neither nation is supposed to take actions against one another.

NEW ORLEANS - In a follow-up to our last story, Vice President Bobby Jindal announced that a formal "IFOK Pact" was signed with Korea today.

In addition, he announced today a "Mutual Defence Pact" with the Hanseatic Commonwealth. Reactions to the MDP were largely positive, as it bolsters international standing for Louisiana and provides additional protection to the Hansa, who is beloved by most of the population. The text of the treaty is below.

Preamble

This is a Friendship, Non-Aggression, Economic Pact for the nations of the Hanseatic Commonwealth and the Glorious Republic of Louisiana

Article I

In the signing of this pact, it must be clear that both organizations will remain sovereign as will the members in each nation. This pact is not a merger of any kind, and its terms apply only to threats to the security of the stability of both signatory alliances.

Article II

In the signing of this pact, both sides agree to defend and aid one another in times of war when requested by the other signatory nation. Should either of the signatory nation be attacked by another power, the other is required to come to its assistance with its full strength and resources. It must also be clear that this pact is intended to only defend the safety and prosperity of the signatory nation, and not as a tool to aid in any imperialistic goals of either alliance. To prevent such events from occurring, this pact may be broken to further protect and maintain both nation's safety and integrity. If there is ever a conflict of interests between multiple MDPs, neutrality is the only option.

Article III

Should either signatory be involved in offensive warfare, the other signatory shall have the option, but not the obligation, to assist in ways military, economic or otherwise.

Article IV

If this pact is to be broken, both signatory nations must agree to, but are not limited to, the following. First, the offended nation must notify the offending alliance of their intentions to break the pact at least 24 hours in advance in order for said alliance time to prepare for the change. Second, both nations agree to a 72 hour period of mandatory non-aggression, in which neither side may declare war upon each other.

Article V

This MDP only applies in a situation in which one the signatory nations comes under the direct attack of another alliance. In essence, this means if either of the above nations jumps into a war due to an MDP it has with a separate alliance, this MDP is considered inapplicable.

NEW ORLEANS - Rioters have taken to the streets in the wake of the new Senate and House votes. The Nordic parties, despite having the least amount of votes (other than the Green party) managed to pull off a stunning victory in the closing hours. Dozens of internet and public polls taken in the last day have shown that the majority of the public voted not for the Nords but for either the Democratic, Tintagylian, or the White Pride parties. Seventeen of the top Nordic party officials have been arrested on charges of voting fraud, and riot police was dispatched to the parish prison to prevent rioters from vigilante justice.

Many have claimed that the Nords were working in concert with the "Greater" Nordlandic Reich and demand that the Nordic party officials be charged with treason.

Tropical depression Bailey enters the Gulf

NEW ORLEANS - LATE last night, tropical depression Bailey entered the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and possibly a weak hurricane but weaken when it encounters harsh wind shear. Forecasters expect a landing date in two days near Texas.

Monday Lite Version

HURRICANE BAILEY SLOWS DOWN

Troops fortify Tahoan border

TAHOE-LOUISIANA - Two hundred and fifty thousand troops that once participated in the United States Civil War have been transferred to the other side of the country. Emergency defensive fortifications were being constructed, a shell of the original plan that was to be used to defend against an aggressive Tahoan war. Patrols have started along the Tahoe border and a heightened military state of readiness has been issued by the new government of Louisiana. When asked for comment, newly sworn-in President Evan Hiley simply said "Tahoe is a credible threat to our security - we can never be too safe."
