Tintagylian Diplomacy

Sarah Tintagyl

The world was finally begin to show the signs of quieting down for once. 'If only for a time.' Sarah thought to herself as she rocked back and forth looking out towards the sunny skies over Brisbane. Her thoughts held a deep problem however, trouble seemed to follow her and her country wherever she went and it was bad luck, combined with poor planning and few friends that found her forced out of Europe in the first place, that of course combined with the crater that now stood in the center of Helsinki. If the world was indeed calming down, perhaps it was time to begin to try and find a way to solidify her nation's hold not only in Australia, but the Hansa's place in the world as well.

"Diplomacy, Minister McAlpine, diplomacy. We were considered the center of international diplomacy and yet we only had a few treaties signed with bordering nations." Sarah said to her Minister of the Interior who sat in front of her nodding. "These non-nuclear treaties are good sure, but the Hansa doesn't even have nuclear weapons. What benefits us from signing such a document. What we need are to take measures in creating friendships, in trade and eventually with defense. Though the defensive part can come later."

"We already have the Australasian Coalition, Milady."

"And why can we help build world friendship's with them as well?"

"Lady Sarah, we can exactly speak for foreign nations."

"And we won't." She said chewing on a pencil before standing up and walking over to a map of the world, her high heels clicking on the wooden floor as she walked. "The Hansa will be an experiment, a naive girl's attempt to consolidate the world, into a league of sorts, with trade at the center of the talks."

"Then I would imagine we would begin with the Coalition?"

"No, why start with something that should already be easy to commit to." She looked at North America. "My professor of political philosophy visited Saboria about a year ago. He said it was a beautiful country and besides the USNA, that is the only country we have really had contact with." Sarah nodded and turned back to McAlpine. "Ready a plane for me, and wire a message to Chairman Leclerc, that Prime Minister Sarah Tintagyl would like to request an audience with the most honorable chairman in hopes of establishing a lasting friendship in this chaotic world of ours."

"Of course milady."

"Also, Roger. Send a message to Colonel Raglan in New Cyrmu, I would like for him to come along as an observer to these talks, the country that gave us second independence has a right to know what we are doing."

Sarah stood facing the map after McAlpine had left the room. "Peace in our time." She said touching the Atlantic. "One can only hope."

My dear lady, your diplomats are always welcome in the Federation. (OOC: Sorry for any typing errors. I be sore from surgery. :( /OOC) We hope we are counted amoung friends of the Hansa, as we curently have an ODP, if you remember.

OOC: Arkantos, I don't think that first post is widely known. So I kind of doubt that many know about it.

IC:

The request for an audience would quickly be granted, and a special code sent, so that the Prime Minister's plane could easily be identified; Its pilot merely had to transmit the code after requesting landing clearance.

OOC: No classified tag=Public Knowledge.

OOC: It is classified Arkantos...I don't used classified unless I'm doing like military posts, but since there was no press in Sarah's office when she decided, only her and her ministers and the Chairman who she sent the wire to would know about this...sorry :(

(IC)

The plane landed under a darkened sky at the Saborian airport in Ferinh. It had been a twenty-four hour flight for Sarah, who had not been able to keep still during the entire flight, reading was futile and writing even more so, excitement did play a part in the fidgeting, but more so she hated plane rides and twenty-four hours in one was inhuman. When the aircraft finally she along with Colonel Raglan and two Hanseatic marines disembarked from the plane and walked with their luggage into the airport proper. Walking to meeting the Saborian entourage that Sarah expected to meet at the gates of the airport.

There indeed were several men waiting for Sarah, most of them military officers. One approached the Hansean group, bowing. "Lady Tintagyl, welcome in Saboria. It is an honor having you here. Would you lke to meet with the Chairman right away or would you rather rest for a bit in your hotel rooms?"

Not waiting for an answer, he and the others went to help the Hanseans with their luggage, so that everyone had to carry only few heavy things.

Sarah smiled and laughed looking back at the airport. "I'd be honored to meet with the Chairman right away. I've just spend a day on a plane, I could definitely use the activity." She turned back to the officer. "So please, lead the way I am anxious to meet with His Excellency, I have only heard good things about him and this country."

Lieutenant Colonel Raglan was carrying just his own kit bag. He walked over to the Saborian taking the luggage and began stacking luggage on his shoulders. While not heavily built, his training had given him a unique talent for carrying vast amounts of weight.

The officer nodded and lead everyone outside, to a small convoy consisting of two jeeps, a limousine and four motorcycles.

The luggage would be put into the jeeps, while the guests would be asked to sit in the stretched car. Once everything there was done, the vehicles would start moving, two motorcycles in the front and two at the back, the limousine in the middle and the jeeps in front and behind the stretch.

Just like when Dr. Pons had visited, one year ago, the drive was smooth, without traffic jams and the like, despite the population having grown a bit since then.

OOC: Back then, I had ~42-43 million, now I have 44+ million people.

This was all new to Raglan. He had never travelled to North America before, especially nowhere as fantastic as Saboria.

Sure, he had served for a short time as a young Captain during the Colstream crisis, as part of the peacekeeping mission, but since being assigned to the Department of Diplomacy and Intelligence, he had spent most of his time in Australia and Scandinavia.

He spent most of the trip nonchalantly looking at the sights, not wanting to appear too entranced by the glorious city.

Unfortunately for the Lieutnant Colonel, the way to the Chairman's residence involved a magnificent view from the street to the Center Tower and the Nakheel Tower, the latter one being the highest building on the planet, the Space-elevator aside. Merely seeing them was awe-inspiring, but actually standing on top if it, looking at the city and its surrounding area...Few cities offered such incredible views.

When Pons had returned from his trip around the world, he had dwelt a long time on what he had seen in Saboria, he talked about how the cleanliness of the environment, the smoothness of the cities, and the awe aspiring buildings that the Saborians had built in their capital. Sarah felt like a little school girl on a field trip, her face was glued to the window of the limousine as they drove through the streets of Fenhir. The sky above them was dark, but that only added to the majesty of the city with the buildings giving off their florescent brilliance. He had told her that Saboria alone should make people think differently about Communism and Socialism in general and though Sarah wasn't a hard core socialist, she felt that Saboria took far too much flak from the world for their ideologies, after all, many philosophers believed that human government would culminate in communism; Saboria was just ahead of the ballgame.

Pons had also talked at length about Chairman Leclerc. "A polite man that knows how to rule his country in precisely the way he sees fit. Damn the rest of the world for saying anything but good things Miss Tintagyl, they think all communists are uncivilized, yet the 'uncivilized' ones build the Nakeel and the Center Towers. Go figure!"

Sarah laughed remembering the conversation with the Doctor and hoped that Leclerc was exactly as he had described, hopefully they saw the world the same way, in regards especially to the same goals.

OOC: And I have 89+ million people. =3

:P

OOC: I'm using a *400 modifier, no RL-numbers. With RL-numbers, I'd have roughly 3-5 million people or so. <.<

The drive continued without incident, and after a while, they arrived at the residence. The convoy drove through the main gates, stopping only a few meters away from the building's entrance. First the soldiers and officer exited the jeeps, the soldiers taking formation and making a 'hallway' towards the entrance, while the officer opened the limousine's door to let its passengers exit. After they were out, he said "Please follow me."

After this, he would lead them through the hallways, in a similar way as Doctor Pons was, to the Chairman's sparsely decorated office. Once there, he'd knock, wait for a "Come in, please." and open the door to let the Prime Minister and her companions in.

The door opened to a hard wooden floor with the light from the distant towers shining in. Sarah bowed taking off her gloves and smiled at the Chairman seated at his desk. "Chairman Leclerc." She said rising back to his eyes. "It is a pleasure to finally meet you, I've heard a great deal good about you and your country and it is an honor to finally see it for myself. Also I thank you for letting me into the country on such short notice, but there are a few proposals that I would like to bring to your ears if you would let me."

Leclerc had gotten up from his chair as Tintagyl entered the room, smiling back at her.

"Ms. Tintagyl, welcome to Saboria. It's great to hear that you like it here. Now, about these proposals...I'd like to hear what you have to say. But first, please take a seat, everyone."

There were enough chairs for Sarah and her companions to sit down on, as well as several bottles of various drinks, from water to vodka. Glasses, of course, too.

Raglan remained standing, leaning against the wall, next to the door hinges. He was alert, and ready for anything. Although he was a diplomat, his current role required him to essentially act as a bodyguard for the newly married leader. He nodded at Leclerc, hoping the man would understand his intent.

"Fair enough Your Excellency." Sarah said, another thing that Pons had told her was that Leclerc was a man of business, brief and to the point. A Hanseatic marine stood by her side and handed a manila folder of papers. "I'm sure that you've seen the news and events that has been gripping the world for the past few weeks and months. Nations in Europe and Asia have almost destroyed themselves in nuclear war, my country too, literally wiped off the European map. I realize that at the moment Your Excellency, the Hansa has friends but they are fair and few in between and the world is still weak from the recent chaos. I have a plan to begin an alliance of nations across the world that would benefit from the friendship of one another, such as free trade and perhaps a defensive pact. We have the chance to bring stability back to the world, already people are trying to restore order and I'm hoping that through this we can achieve this."

Sarah looked up from the papers and smiled at the Chairman. "The only contact I have had with Saboria is through my Political Science Professor, but you are a nation I trust with committing my dream of a united world, a new world philosophy to. What do you think Chairman Leclerc." Her eyes sparkled under the light in the room, sparkling of a distant hope that she wanted so much to become a reality.

"Yes, yes. What has happened in Eurasia was a tragedy, one of a scale which I hope will never be repeated. Had we not been occupied with various other projects while the war was still raging, I would've ordered the maniacs in germany to be taken off their high horse! Attacking your nation with nuclear weaponry, you, who you were a pillar of peace in the world, who honored their treaties despite being utterly outnumbered and having no defenses against nuclear weapons...What germany did was an act for which they should burn in hell for all eternity, should it exist. And all those others who used nuclear weaponry "because they could", they too should just rot down there."

The Chairman sighed, evidently being somewhat...angered because of the nuclear 'holocaust' as some called it.

"Forgive me, I forgot myself. Still, despicable acts."

He drank some water, then continued. "Now, stability...Stability is something that I like. Predictable, boring, though occasionally stagnating scientific advancement without encouragement of the governments. I'd gladly make a economic and perhaps defensive treaty with you, helping to restore order in the world. I want there to be more people like you and Dr. Pons, people who can be trusted, people who aren't biased because that other guy has an ideology you don't like. For that reason, Ms. Tintagyl, and for a few others, I'll sign such a treaty, especially if you can gather more nations under its banner."

Some more water, after which he looked upwards at the ceiling - or through it, into the sky and space, somewhat dreamily. He sighed again.

"The world is complicated, and oh so many people are stupid. There are just some world leaders that shouldn't be allowed to be in charge of a flea circus. If this treaty will help make them think more often, then it's even more reason to sign it."

The horrors of Helsinki flashed into the young woman's mind as she reclined back on the wooden chair, barely squeaking from her petite frame. "Your support for this idea touches my heart Chairman Leclerc, I hope that the leaders of many other people in the world are just as enthused to begin the signing of such a document. Hopefully with this we can begin to see the true stabilization of the world. Hopefully if we would be able to consolidate the various nations of the world, we will be able to prevent any such catastrophic war from ever taking place again and if one does come on the horizon, we will be able hold the chaos back from destroying the world and everything we have worked for." The girl held back the tears in her eyes from the nuclear explosions, but now there was hope, hope for all her dreams and ambitions.

Leclerc smiled at Sarah like a father would smile at his daughter, knowing what she's going through. He handed her a handkerchief.

"You're strong, Ms. Tintagyl. A lesser woman would've broken down by now. You, however, endure and keep going. This is admirable. However, should you be holding your grief back, let me give you a bit of advice: Doing that for a long time isn't good for you. When you find a few minutes for yourself, for example in your hotel after this meeting, let go of yourself and embrace your emotions, and turn them into determination. Not hate or rage for those who destroyed your home, but determination to never let those who survived go through such a thing again and pity for those who had to resort to nuclear weapons."

Being rational and controlling one's emotions didn't mean to supress them, to never let them affect you. It meant using the emotions and turn them into determination to achieve one's aims and ambitions rationally and, if possible, peacefully. That was one of the Chairman's philosophies.

"We will work together, for a better tomorrow. That I promise you."

Sarah took the handkerchief from Leclerc's hand and smiled back letting one single droplet fall from her eyes to the floor. "Thank you very much Your Excellency and if you agree with the proposals that I have put in place and have no other questions then the hotel would sound very nice right now. I passed the Nakheel and Center Towers on my way to your residence and they are beautiful structures and I am proud to be able to call myself an ally of such a man that invests so much into the cultural expansion of his nation." Rising to her feet Sarah took Leclerc's hand in her's once again. "When we finally get around to finalizing this pact on paper Chairman Leclerc I hope that you can personally come to Brisbane as my personal honored guest. Perhaps dinner with my husband and I on the coast for celebration in the creation of such peace."
