"Peaceful separation through plebiscite. So rare in history, yet we pulled it off." "We'll still be dependent on Americanisches Reich for most of our energy supplies. The oil fields offshore from Veracruz won't be enough for all our people." "That's fine." Zzzptm walked back to his desk. "We want good relations with our neighbor and trade is a great way to provide those relations. The AR needs high-tech goods, and we're happy to supply them. It's a sound footing for a long-term relationship." "I'd prefer a defense treaty." "In due time, Cuauhtemoc, in due time." Zzzptm turned his chair to take in the mountain peaks. "It is so beautiful today. What do you say we head to Chapultepec Park?" ***** Outside, the people of Zzzptmacan carried on as normal, but with a festive spirit in the air. Today was a day of independence, a chance for them to prove themselves in the wider world. But, all things considered, they still had the same challenges of making a living as they did the day before. They still had the same joys and pressures of countless others in the world. The difference was in their government. Most had voted to leave Amerikanisches Reich in a plebiscite, hoping that a more localized government would give them more control of their lives. It was a hope that Zzzptm and his advisors would have to deliver on. Those that voted against the plebiscite would be their natural opponents... and so would be members of the resistance... ***** Nation Factbook: HIMYNAMISTAN Population: 18,464,600 Military (approx.): 830,000 soldiers, 8000 armored fighting vehicles, 8 capital ships, 32 support vessels, 80+ fighter squadrons. The nation of Himynamistan is a technologically advanced nation with a pronounced urban character, with over 12 million people living in the capital Zzzptmacan alone. The city of Puebla is Himynamistan's second city with a population of roughly 2 million. Other major cities include Cordoba, Jalapa, and Veracruz. Rural areas produce sugar cane, corn, cotton, and fruits for export in addition to satisfying all of Himynamistan's basic food demands. Himynamistan has access to petroleum resources off the coast of Veracruz to offset its demands for external energy sources. Himynamistan has a service-oriented economy, but also produces many high-tech goods for export. The government of Himynamistan is in transition, but promises to set up a left-leaning republican form of government seem likely to be fulfilled. A radical element, "Frente Popular Revolucionario", or FPR, exists in opposition to the formative government and it is not known whether or not it will remain peaceful. "The Parliament was under the impression, that the founding of Himynamistan was under the sanction and approval of your governments officials. However, if this is not a sanctioned state we will retract our statement of support. We wish you the best of luck as well as Himynamistan in sorting this situation out. The ambassador boarded the plane for Corpus Christi... but the colors on the plane were of Himynamistan's national airline. He had a lot of negotiations to conclude, particularly for the materials necessary to recover the devastations that had afflicted Zzzptmacan, which was formerly known as Mexico City. Getting the city to its former glory was a daunting task, but the people of the new nation felt up to the task. OOC: If I gotta rebuild it, I gotta rebuild it. Thank goodness we have a high tech level... IC: Another item for discussion would be the border on either side of Veracruz state: both Amerikanisches Reich and Himynamistan would have to do something about the increased amount of drug smuggling across the frontier... The plane landed safely in the capital, Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi). The ambassador was welcomed to a limo which took him to the Reich Palace. At the Palace he met the Kaiser himself, Otto Verteidiger. The Kaiser led him into the huge building, after a firm handshake of course, to a room that included a seat for two, the ambassador and the Kaiser. He signaled the guards to close the doors and they were sealed. Otto then spoke, "We already know the borders that you wish.. and they are granted. We wish to know about the issues that you want to address, then we will tell of our desires. You may proceed." OOC: Otto only knows German so I'm assuming your ambassador knows it. Ambassador Tezozomoc replied in his all-but-flawless German, deliberately voicing it with a distinguished Nahuatl accent to remind everyone that Himynamistan was not a Germanic land. "The matters on the agenda are certainly items that can be worked out with the junior diplomats. What I'd like to discuss with you is the matter of the Zapatista Union. "Frankly, we were surprised you handed Chiapas over to that peasant rabble. They're going to revert to subsistence agriculture, for heaven's sake! One spell of rough weather, and we're going to be overwhelmed with refugees from the ZU. Wasn't there any other group that could have been entrusted to handle that breakaway region? "And the talk from Tahoe... it's disturbing. The situation in Mexico is shaky enough without the threat of it being used as a transit corridor for a Tahoe army bound for the ZU.
